BOOTCAMP CHARLIE FOR ME (JAN/FEB/MAR) Edition

Welcome to Boot Camp Charlie. This is the place for men to lose fat, build muscle, and improve their overall fitness. All men are welcome to join, but be prepared to exercise, eat right, and take some heat for slacking off. There is lots of experience and encouragement shared here, so if your ready to get healthy, and not afraid to work for it, this is the place for you.

There are a few rules to follow.

Weigh in every Monday (or whichever day works for you). Report your previous weeks weight and your current weeks weight.

On the 1st of each month report what you can:

Current weight
Total lost for the month
All time high
Total pounds from high
Total pounds lost in 2013

No Emoticons. Nothing will get you latrine duty faster than a smiley.

There are many eating and exercising plans being followed here, share what works, what doesn't, but check in often. Straying from the camp for a period usually means somethings gone wrong. While tempting, don't go AWOL just because you screwed up. We don't like to send out the MPs, but will when necessary.

Hey Guys.....it's been quite awhile since I posted here at Boot Camp. Some of you may remember me from a few years back (Shiner, DougK, Not so Big D, CTI Grad, etc) and I believe I was one of the originals with Sarge way, way back.

I've been off Low Carb for a long time and simply trying to maintain. I am up about 10 lbs from a few years back, but still doing ok (243.5 lbs as of today). I have been feeling like breaking through to my ultimate goal of 210 lbs and decided to go back to what got me the first 60 - 70 lb loss which was low carb.

I will try to post here quite often to help keep myself accountable as well as keep everyone else that way as well.

Peace!

Hey Shiner, Doug, and Harley! Great to see some constants in the thread.

Guys - I am climbing the weight ladder. No weigh-ins, but the clothes that once fit loose are tight. I'll face the music tomorrow. Looking to come back down. Walked on the treadmill for an hour today and quickly realized not only am I heavier but way out of shape. I am going to skip the Burpee challenge for now and ease back in.

Here's to a great 2014!

Good Morning Gents.

Scale is at 238 this morning. Started at 243.5 last week so I guess down 5.5 lbs (which is mostly water weight since I was eating too many carbs. prior to coming back to low carb.). My all time high was 302 which was probably around 9 years ago when my son was born.
I am not really starting the exercise until next week when I get off induction level carbs.....I do lead a fairly active life style however. I am concentrating on eating 100% clean for these first 2 weeks and then re-introducing some good carbs and exercise then.

Take care and stay warm.....It's a balmy -50 F here this morning factoring in the wind chill.

Peace!

Greetings boys! Terrible end of year for me. I did pretty good for a couple of weeks, but then completely gave up the last few weeks. Started induction today at 230.6. Lots of work to do.

Harley, Huff and Doug - good to see you boys!

Ken - Thanks for getting this started. I'm in for the challenge and will post daily to show progress.

2 miles on the treadmill this morning. 2100 calories and 17 grams of carbs yesterday. Day one in the books, only another 150 or so until goal!

Ken, I'm out on the burpees. Any form of squats kills my knees. it was one of the factors that ended my run with p90x last year.

Hey Fellas.
I too had a dentist appt. this morning....just cleaning, so no trauma like you Shiner.

Eats were good yesterday....except for the peanuts in the evening. I tend to get snacky around 8 pm and figured I better grab the peanuts vs. something worse. I still believe I stayed within my induction carb count, so all is well.

Peace!

4.5 miles on the tread yesterday and 3 miles tonight. Working to induction but not there yet. No diet soda since Dec. 24. I have had enough of paying for that poison. The first few days were rough but I am convinced that diet Mt. Dew caused more than one carb binge. Good to see an active thread.

Wow look what a new year does to this place. Posts coming out of our ears. I wrote a pretty long indepth year end review on my blog last week so I wont rehash it all over again. In summation, the fight carries on. If you haven't noticed, I've also left the ranks of low carbers for Paleo. While I haven't lost any weight in six weeks, I'm actually enjoying the diet, and am losing inches. Plus I'm getting a ton stronger (crossfit).

Welcome back harley. Lets keep this place a little more active this year!

Hey Gents.

Quick check in.....still on induction levels of eats. I did have a couple whiskey and waters last night which I shouldn't have done on induction, but what are you gonna do.

Keep up the good fight!

Peace!

Good morning, all. 5 posts in one day?? that was a good 2 weeks in December! Loving it.

2 days down - 2200 calories and 20 grams carbs. Carbs are a little high, as I had half an avocado at lunch. I can't remember if it is technically induction food, but I like em and they're good for you. I got in 2.1 miles on the treadmill this morning.

Huff - I'm with you on the diet soda. I had been sucking them down last year, but am eliminating them this year.

3 miles on the tread. Jumped on late but got it done.

Almost opened up a diet dew tonight. Then I reminded myself how bad it really tastes. Never thought I would become an addict of that garbage.

After six weeks of paleo/crossfit the scale is officially moving. Two days in a row now I've seen losses, whereas before I was always either the same or slightly up from the previous day.

I also rocked our WOD tonight at the box. Got my second RX and was the fastest too. Tomorrow is an off day from CF, however I plan on either swimming or cycling. Not sure which yet.

What's up Guys?

Checking in for today. Still on plan and feeling good. Busier than Hell between work and running with the kiddos. Had to grab something quick on the go yesterday evening between activities, but stayed 100% there.
I have not given up the diet soda yet, but after seeing all of you that have, I am beginning to think about it. My wife drinks a S-Ton of Diet Coke....I hate that stuff except I like a splash of it if I have a cocktail. I too am a Diet Dew fan. I am at 1 - 2 a day.....I usually have a cup of coffee in the morning (with some French vanilla added to it) and have a Diet Dew with lunch and maybe one with a snack in the afternoon. I don't think I am "addicted" to it, but probably will try to cut it out in the near future.

Keep up the good fight!

Peace!

Day 3 down - 2344 calories and ~30 gram carbs. Carbs are way higher than I wanted, but had lunch at a meeting. I thought I made all good choices (baked chicken, greek salad, and green beans) - but that meal came in at 19 carbs when I entered the various components into ******. I did my 2.2 miles on the treadmill this morning.

Still diet soda free, though that might be short lived. If I have an adult beverage or three this weekend, it will likely be Jack and diet soda.

Day 4 - 2289 calories and 10 grams carbs. Carbs were lower than I should be doing. I didn't have my salad or veggie with dinner, just meat.

2.1 miles on the treadmill this morning. I'm feeling the induction flu and getting up at 5:30 to jog has been tough this week. Hopefully my body will be better acclimated to low carb in a few days and I can get back up to jogging 3 miles without feeling like I'm about to die.

Happy Friday All!

Quick check in. Eats are on target.....gonna start with the exercise program tomorrow. I am going to try to walk/jog a 5 k every other day and then do free weights the off days. We will see how it goes, but I am officially past the induction flu so I want to add it in.

Stay Strong!

Peace!

Monday Weigh in

Last week: 246.8
This week: 245.0

Everything was going great until Thursday then there was a major health issue in the family and a major issue at work that required me to get involved. Lots of meetings, fast food, and little time/motivation to stay on the tread. The new year looked to be a great time to start back in, but last week was more challenging than what I would have liked.

Going to get back on track today. All those issues are still present but I am going to work at remembering to keep my health at the forefront and not let life events control what I eat and whether or not I work out.

I like the analogy of the flu for the beginning of induction. It has similar symptoms.

Good Monday Morning.

238 this morning....same as last Monday so 0 loss. I kinda figured that would happen as my body tends to loose for a short while and then stay the same for a week or two as it adjusts.
Started the exercise this weekend....I am actually in a tad bit better shape than I thought. I was able to jog a lot of the 5 K on the dread mill.....not fast mind you, but I was able to keep faster than a walk for 90% of the time. I am going to work on increasing speed and adding incline as the weeks go on.
I had a Fantasy Football get together yesterday at Buffalo Wild Wings. I had 1 adult beverage (whiskey and diet) and ate my birth weight in wings. I stayed to the lower carb sauces as much as possible but I know I went way over my limit yesterday. I am still sick from eating too much, but am glad I stayed away from the really bad stuff.
Well....enough rambling from me!

Peace!

1/6/14 - 230.6
1/13/14 - 223.0

Good first week - you gotta love induction.

Day 5 - Calories 2092, carbs 22.2 (7 fiber) 2.2 miles on the treadmill
Day 6 - Calories 2517, carbs 28.8 (6 fiber) no jogging
Day 7 - Calories 2097, carbs 32.0 (14.8 fiber) no jogging

I blew it on the no diet sodas this weekend, but only had 1 each day. Also had a couple miller lites Friday and Saturday.

Day 8 - 2370 calories, 21.2 grams carbs (9 fiber). 2.2 miles on the treadmill. NO diet sodas.

Huff - hope your family member gets better quick and your work issues resolve themselves. This is hard enough without life throwing us curve balls.

Harley - we had our end of season fantasy football wrapup the previous weekend at BW3, also. Love that place and it can be low carb friendly if you avoid too much beer and sweet sauces. In our league the money winners buy, but the losers have to eat 12 of the blazing wings. We've gotten to where most of our bets end with the losers having to eat blazing wings. Our kids greatly enjoy watching us sweat and cry as we eat those buggers. Brutal going down, but much worse coming out the next day.

Hey Fellas!

Eats were very much on target yesterday. Met for lunch with a ex co-worker of mine....he had to quit 6 months ago due to an ALS diagnosis and is already wheel chair bound (really sad to see).....and simply had a salad with chicken and crumbled blue cheese on it (excellent).

I got cocky on the dread mill last night and added in some incline (a 5) and I thought I was gonna die! Wow! I forgot how much adding incline adds to the workout. I did finish the 5 k, but I wasn't sure about half way through. I am sore as hell today and can barely walk. I am going to do a lot of stretching and some free weights tonight and take it easy so hopefully I am healed up enough for tomorrow night to jog.

I absolutely love the Blazin' Wings.....but that night and next day, I hate them coming out. I tend to stay away from them now, but I still love them (and most hot foods). I also noticed that I begin to have some really strange dreams (nightmares?) when I eat too hot of food, so probably not a good thing.

Peace!

Harley

Big D - thanks for the kind words. This has been a challenging week. BTW I love the BW3 challenge. I am going to suggest that.

Harley - that is a heck of an incline! WTG!
