Happy New Year everyone. Here's to a good one for us all

Starting as I mean to go on, I had eggs and mayo for breakfast. Recommitting to good old Atkins induction for a few days. (I need to get rid of a lot of the junk leftovers in my fridge!).

Yes, Kissa, we found out that DD2 is also pregnant - so 2 granddaughters due in March actually, DD2 really needs to gain more weight according to the doctors, so I'll offload my surplus high carb food on her - there's a plan....

Had a fun night with lots of British friends to see in the new year. Hope you enjoyed celebrating however you chose to do it.

We’re still at my parents’. We’re taking them out for lunch today, then heading home tomorrow.

Tomorrow will be my first down day for just over two weeks, then I’ll weigh myself on Saturday morning and find out the effect of all the festivities. I weighed myself on my mother’s scales onNew Year’s Eve night after a big dinner and they said 8st 9 (121) so even though I don’t know exactly how they compare with my scales at home, I’m not expecting the news to be too awful. (I was seeing 121 after an up day, 120 after a down day before we left, so if the scales are reading the same, 121 at night after an up fortnight would be brilliant!)

Sounds wonderful Ailuros. I was 129.6 today, so not too much damage done. Now to get under 9stone and stay there.

Thanks Vicky, bit much slap for daylight but it looked good in the candlelight.

Hi everyone!

Happy New Year! I wish for everyone to have a happy and healthy 2014.

Not much to report. No weight lost, but no weight gained either, so that's a good thing I guess!

Back on EOD rotations and my LCHF/NK foods very strictly to start off on the right foot this year.

Back is still causing pain, but manageable. I just wish I could have one pain free day!

Good to see so many of you here, I hope all the others will pop in too.

xxx Mims

Sat around too long and now can't edit my post!

So: I'm doing IF rotations, not EOD! I fast till dinner and have a 4 hour window in which I'm eating. I do one day a week where I add one or two (depending on hunger) extra meals.

My menu today:

B: BPC
L: BPC
D: cup of homemade poultry bone broth with a pat of kerrygold butter, three egg omelette with cheeses and bacon, a small portion of creme fraiche for dessert with some fresh ground vanilla pod.

Happy New Year Mimosa. So pleased you didn't gain over the festive season. Well done you. I am sorry that your back is still sore. Do the professionals believe it can be sorted long term?

Today's DD is going well. Being prepared is so important.

I have had a bottle of water beside me all day, which is so helpful, a couple of sips if a rumble occurs is so satisfying. Boiling a couple of egg was wise too. I am not going LC particularly but eggs fill me up nicely.

Knowing I have a nice sweetheart cabbage in the fridge for my dinner is very comforting too. I like volume on my DDs, if possible, and sliced cabbage takes a lot of eating.

And I managed to go to the cafe in the park and order a black coffee. Which I really enjoyed!

I know, I know. Going for the "how many times can I slink in with my tail between my legs" award. But I missed you all!! Hello everyone, and Happy New Year!

I am too lazy (and to be honest have been a little busy, too) to read through the last X months' posts. I would love it if you could fill me in on any crucial events I have missed...

Weight could still be lost. (This latter brought sharply home to me by New Year's Eve FB posts involving my bottom - own fault as I'd made a tiger-print dress and couldn't resist positioning the eyes of one particular tiger over each buttock...) so here I am again. I also bought some velvet trousers for a costume for carnival here on 1 March. They are size uncomfortable after Christmas and New Year.

Since I last posted, I had a crappy summer - bike fall resulted in hairline knee fracture, which looked all wrong on the MRT and could have meant a lifetime in a wheelchair. Followed by further fall whilst in England for a bit in the summer. Crutch-dependent, very disabled, lots of pain - wasn't so much fun. Not to mention I then managed to burn myself badly with duck fat (I know!! Such a good thing, and yet...). And that in the middle of a no-alcohol period of a few months as I didn't dare wobble...

All past. New year. Onwards and upwards! And I hope you're all well and happy and I wish you all a wonderful 2014!!

Much love,

Juno x x x

Yay, we have Juno back! Somewhat battered and bruised, but back. You are supposed to eat duck fat not bathe in it. Sorry, not funny.

Wonderful here but carrying a few extra Xmas pounds. They'll be gone soon.

Yay!!!!! Juno, you're back!
Don't worry about slinking in, I do this regularly and the group is still as lovely as ever!
No big news or gossip from me really, I'm just boring, LOL!

I forgot to tell all about my Christmas present from BF, it was amazing!
He has bought us tickets for a trip to Tromso in north Norway to see the Aurora Borealis! We are going mid-March for a 5 day trip. Can't wait! I've always wanted to go to Norway and hopefully we'll see the Northern Lights.
Am buying a good camera to hopefully photograph them. Been researching for a week now which camera to buy and finally settled on one. It's a huge expense, so now I'm going to have to add a new hobby to my repertoire, LOL!

Juno!!!! How lovely to see you! Sorry you had such an awful year — I hope this one has enough good things to make up for it all!

We’re going home today. Even though we’re going back to a cold house and probably an extended round of dealing with builders & plumbers to get it fixed, I’m looking forward to being back.

Mimosa, how odd, we are flying to Bergen and taking the Hurtigruten trip up the coast of Norway to Tromso in February with the same object. They say that this year the Lights will be best for years to come. We are so exited and, although we are not usually cruise fans, I love the sound of the ship too. I am downloading lots of books onto my Kindle as there will be quite a lot of dark and cold. But the stops and the fjords will be interesting and I am sure very beautiful too.

Good start on the strict rotations yesterday and the scale was down to 128 this morning. Off to the gym later.

Hope you I get the heating sorted out soon Ailuros.

I do hope that this flooding isn't affecting anyone too badly. I know that Slow was worried. The area around us in our Devon house is always flooding and it was sodden when we left. But we are safe.

We have flood defences in our local area but they haven't been maintained by the Council consequently they's so full of debris that the water can't exit through them (IYSWIM). They always are blocked with debris but now they're even worse because of the recent rainfall.

Some of the more exposed local areas have lots of fence panels and wooden garden structures down although, afaik, most roofs are OK (altho' I've seen some missing roof solar panels).

There are 'exceptional weather' warnings and lots of flood alerts around us. It's even forecast that London may experience 50mph winds today and Sunday.

Some of my relatives are affected by the current flooding albeit nothing like the people who've been without power for > a week.

Sounds fabulous, Cindy! I'll be very keen to hear how everything was once you're back! I also heard this about the Aurora Borealis for this coming year... Apparently it has something to do with the large number of sun explosions that are happening. BF's Parents took a fjord cruise along the coast of Norway years ago and absolutely loved it. And Bergen is supposed to be really nice too! You'll have a fab time, I'm sure!

Ah, how lovely to see you all again. Thank you for the welcome :-)

I am hellishly jealous of all the Aurora Borealis watching! (Has a special place in my heart; I used the phrase once as an acidly teenage reply to my mother over some spat in the kitchen. She stopped and asked, "Erm, what?", evidently having misheard bright-blue swearwords. I had to mumble "Aurora Borealis" back. Despite the teenage-years thing, we both ended up hiccupping with laughter :-) )

SlowSure, I don't think we know each other. Hello, I'm Juno, and I hope all your friends are fine.

Kissa, actually I laughed at that. Whilst I was limping to the cold-water tap, I thought, hmm. *That's* what it feels like, being fried, huh?

Mimosa, I love your boyfriend on your behalf. And which camera are you buying?

Ailuros, happy homecoming. Despite the obvious drawbacks.

Have to admit that the first day back here would have been a bit purer without a friend of mine, hitting 50, evincing a need for Sachertorte which meant ending up in a Viennese-inspired café in Wiesbaden for the entire afternoon. Hard to avoid excess carbs in such an atmosphere!

Looking forward to being back.

Juno x

I have had one of the first days when I had to eat something more to reach my UD calories. I was 300 under my paltry 1400. But there in the pantry was the last piece of chocolate chip Panettone....... sorted.

The odd Viennese inspired carb can do little harm. Tomorrow will be another day full of pork, such and mayo. Sometimes I mis LC.......... but not this evening.

I don’t think the carbs in Sachertorte count. Not if you drink really good coffee with it.

I had my first morning weigh-in since 19th Dec: 8 st 8.2 (120.2). The last one before I went away on 19th December was 120.4, so I’m very happy with that!

I didn’t go wild over Christmas, but I didn’t have any down days, and I felt as if I was eating quite a lot. I had wine every day, panettone most days, Christmas pudding a couple of times &c and other puddings pretty often.

Or maybe those pesky hormones are finally settling down! I was doing all the cooking while I was away, and at one time that would have completely exhausted me, but I held up pretty well this year, and even managed to catch no more than a mild cold, instead of getting actually ill as I did on the last couple of Christmas visits.

That’s good. Holidays &c followed by Christmas was always going to be tough for weight control!

I find it really hard to predict how things will affect me. When we went to Paris for a weekend, I effectively just missed one down day, and it took over a week to recover. Two weeks of Christmas festivities had no effect at all.

hi everyone seemed to miss the new thread somehow lol happy new year everyone and well done to those who did so well over chrimbo and new year

i have been awful over xmas exacerbated by the now constant pain in my arms and being VERY VERY fed up that now my arms dont work as much as my back and legs dont, its very depressing

having said that i have to own up to gaining god knows how much, (probably a stone or so) hubby is going to weigh me every week and not tell me what i weigh just tell me if i lose or gain

so i need some gentle and not so gentle encouragement to get back on track once and for all

x

So sorry about all the pain! As for the weight gain, we’ve all been there, and hormones & pain are a really tough combination to be dealing with, so don’t beat yourself up — but you know what you have to do. Get back on the LC wagon, or try something else if you want to, but just pick something and stick with it, and you’ll start moving in the right direction again. Good luck!

Hi Everyone!

Shy: sorry about your arms and your weight gain, I'm sending lots of good thoughts for pain reduction to you!

Cindy:Hope your house in Devon wasn't flooded... Sending good thoughts!

Vicky:How are you?

Jan: nice to see you here and good to hear you are well and great news about your coming grandbabies!!!!

SlowSure: nice to see you here again, I missed you!

Ailuros: So glad that things are going well for you!

Juno: Hope the weekend was good, did you have that horrible weather too, or was it only in my area? (Heavy thunderstorms and gale force wind gusts with lots of hail) Hope LC is good to you!

Blotto, Maryam, Lola: hope you are well and sending my hellos and happy new years to you! Miss you and hope to see you here!

Everyone else: happy new year and do come check in, we miss you all!

I bought my camera: a Panasonic Lumix DMC-GM1. It's the smallest compact systemcamera on the market, and we got three different lenses and a tripod and a bag for all the new gear. A bit stunned about the amount of money we spent in a very short time, but I have to say that the camera is amazing! Does all that I want it to do and so much more too! Anyway, have to make this a new hobby I guess, otherwise I can't justify the expense, LOL!

For the rest, the weekend was nice, we had a lovely long walk on Sunday (took dog and camera along) in the sunshine. Felt like early spring! Today is grey and wet though. I'm glad we don't have the extreme weather like in the USA, but I would like it to be winter! The weather we are having now is much of nothing.

My menu for today:
B: BPC
L: BPC
D: leftovers from Saturday: mashed celeriac, stir fried savoy cabbage, spicy chorizo in red wine and a bit of feta cheese. For dessert maybe some creme fraiche off the spoon...

Shy I am so sorry about your arms, the pain and loss of movement must be soule destroying. Do have a voice activation programme for you computer? I am sure that isn't the right term, but you know what I mean.

As for the diet, well it is never easy, we know but if you set yourself some small goals I am sure that will help. And if you can, post here often. I know that if I post here I get so much support and all of us thrive on that. No man is an island.

Thanks Mim, our house in Deven is fine, although near the river we are up a small hill.

Saw All is Lost yesterday. Gripping.

Off to the gym shortly, 11.15 class, very civilized.
