I love cooked celery. I’m not so keen on it raw.

The man from the council said yes to the new boiler!

Now we just have to get the builders to actually install it!

I’ll be able to enjoy my weight loss a lot more when I’m not wearing 27 layers topped off with a quilted gilet and a fleece .

Awesome, thanks ladies!

I should have mentioned that we currently don't have an oven. =( Uncivilized, I know. Not a an uncommon problem though with rentals in Paris.
But saving that recipe for when we do.

With you on that one! Switching over to a lighter jacket has made a big difference to my morning walk, feeling light as a feather.

It is gorgeous here, in fact about to head out in it and enjoy a bit.
Spring! Please please stick around!

Bother - lost my post.

Huzzah on the boiler, Ailuros.

Well done to date on the weight loss, Shykins.

I'm partial both to braised celery and cream of celery soup.

I had a DXA scan last week and I'm still by the results so I won't be able to write it up for a while.

The results indicate that I've lost enough of my muscle mass and power to meet the (several) international definitions of sarcopenia - I've less than a notional Everywoman who is 30+yrs older than I am.

I got the rote lecture to lose weight and exercise more. Currently, I weigh 53kgs at 164.5cms (117lbs at 5'4+) and kayak 4 days a week, walk approx. 5 miles in the course of my day, and weight train at the gym.

I did ask how much weight the HCP recommended that I should lose and how should I do it without running the risk of losing more lean body mass but there wasn't really an answer. But she did stress the importance of trying to walk for 20mins a day. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry.
__________________
July 2014 Life, eh! In March I had a DXA scan which revealed very low muscle mass (sarcopenia) so I'm still thinking about how to cope with that. I may miss questions that people ask me or personals. Apologies if I do, it's not intentional and normal service may resume at some point

SS, I’m so sorry you’re having to deal with that. Do you believe the results? I hope you can make some sense of them and come up with a plan that gives you confidence.

Lovely to have some Newbies here. The more the merrier.

Had a day in Southend on Friday, a travel day on Saturday the wrote off yesterday being badly behaved with wine and bubbly!

Gym this morning felt good. Combat is one of my favourites and I don't have a class in London.

Celery braised and with chess melted on top, yummy.

SS - I'm with shykins here, how much are they expecting you to loose?! Sounding crazy. Sorry you're going through this.

Yet another beautiful day here but with a little more crisp in the air this morning when I took my walk.

Spring definitely here and it's giving me the antsy pantsy! Does anyone else get this? I think it's when the good weather and light hits and my body is suddenly like, I'm Awake!!
This morning I woke up at 06:40 (alarm is set for 07:15 for my walk) and there was like no point in going back to sleep and I wasn't even tired. Add the regular exercise and good food choices, the body is definitely waking up from the winter slimber.
Maybe a big spring clean is what I need to quell the energy a bit.

I'm very grateful for the Spring weather - it's perfect for kayaking.

On the weight loss front - they were very vague. I think it's just a knee-jerk response to the word, "sarcopenia" as it's normally part of the phrase, "sarcopenic obesity" (although it's normally in women who are 10-30 years older than I am).

I haven't decided whether to amend my maintenance range in response to the DXA scan results. Although I have no biomarkers for metabolic disease (nor symptoms), the results indicate that I should (theoretically) consider myself at high risk for them - in which case, I might benefit from reducing my body fat levels.

If I attained 110lbs/50kg, assuming that I'd maintained all of my LBM (lean body mass is everything-bones, fluid, blood, muscle, organs-that isn't fat and my LBM is approx 36.5kg/80lbs), I'd still be approx. 25% body fat. I'd need to be 47-48kgs (98-100lbs) to have a BF of 20% (assuming no loss of LBM). ('m choosing 20% as an example because that counts as metabolically lean, no matter which international standard you're using and they vary enormously to the point where some would still class me as obese and others would categorise me as lean.)

However, it's very difficult for women to lose weight without losing LBM and I can't afford to lose any because I have such a tiny amount. Other women of around my age/height on the JUDDD forum who've had a body composition have 30-50lbs more LBM than I do.

It's all very odd.

30% is within the healthy fat range on the WHO chart, isn’t it? If so, maybe the thing to do is to aim to stay at about your current weight and see if you can build up your LBM?

I think we’re still in the very early days of gathering this sort of information, so the science of what it means is still pretty crude, but I think you said somewhere that you found yourself using your hands to get out of a chair. That doesn’t seem right for someone or your age and weight (not sure what your age is, but assuming you’re in your “middle years”). I would suspect that the root of your problem lies in your various accidents, but it seems that low LBM and strength are more of a problem for you than the fat.

I hope you don’t mind me throwing in my two-penn'orth. Feel free to ignore my ramblings!

Spring has arrived here too. I’m hitting the antihistamines to try to counteract my body’s tendency to assume everything in the world is a threat that needs to be attacked. Still, a couple of years ago I was taking daily antihistamines all year round. Now it’s just when certain kinds of pollen or mould are around.

Hi to Amin 81 and Virgo 47 and welcome. Hope that we don't scare you away...all our other newbies seem to have abandoned ship lol

Ailrus for the boiler...thank heavens.!!

Yes I lived without an oven for around 6 weeks before Xmas. I never thought that I used my oven that much anyway...but hey I realised that I did lol.

Hope that you are all doing well...quick reply from me as I have cystitis at the moment and I am in agony. Hopefully, after a couple of antibiotics though it will abate.

Speak laters

SS - I must admit this all is a bit over my head but do be careful with yourself and like Shykins says, the docs aren't always right.

Ailuros - yay for reduced dose of antihistamines. Hope the ones you're taking do their job.

Shykins - me too! On the spring cleaning, I mean. The hubby thinks I'm crazy when I start pottering but it makes me happy.

lola - no worries, I'm not easily frightened. And this seems like a lovely crew.

So today at lunch I popped by C&A (I guess some of you are familiar with that brand) to try on trousers. French stores and sizes are just not kind to anything above a tiny person but C&A, being German, is a little more forgiving. It makes me giggle that they even specify the difference between the sizs in EU and FR. So for ex, an EU size 44 is a FR 46.
Anyways, I was delighted to easily slip into a pair of bootcut jeans size EU 40!
No idea when that last happened. Small victory dance in the changing room.
Didn't actually buy them, waiting another 2 weeks before our trip to Sweden before investing even if I doubt much will change in pant-size until then.

It is definitely Spring cleaning time here too. Getting rid of all sorts.

Slow I know how difficult you find this and how much you have studied all the known facts. Just sending hugs.

Great new on the size 40 Amin, ah yes good old C&A.

Got to the gym this morning for B*ms legs and tums class, it is while since I have done that, always a good thing. Zumba tomorrow, which I love.

Hope Mimosa is enjoying her trip to Norway...

Morning everyone...quick whizz by as work today...

Feeling little better with the cystitis so hopefully be gone by tomorrow.

Slow that is terrible telling you to lose weight. You seem a perfect weight for your height. Those charts and things make me sick.

I was invited for a health check and went the other week and before the woman even started on my height and weight I told her that I work out 4 times a week at least and I am healthy blah blah....seeing as she weighed about 20 stone anyway don't think that she could say much lol.!! Kayaking is strenuous exercise plus all the walking. I bet you got some muscle going on in there somewhere which weighs more than fat.

Still beautiful here. And I'm still antsy. This morning I woke up at 06:30, this is starting to be a trend lol.

Not much to report, really. Most of the celery has gone via means of coleslaw and small pre-dinner snack of celery with peanutbutter, which the hubby loved! I was shocked. Totally did not expect that.

One day at a time, one step at a time, one kg at a time. Summer is coming! This is my new mantra. The old one was, I just have to survive February. Which I've now done.

It was a great class, but I think it might be a challenge for you shy, no disrespect.

Lola, hope the dreaded cystitis has cleared up now.

Walked gently around the town today, everything looking so lovely. There is even a Mimosa Tree in bloom. It is a young and is doing well, there had been a huge old one in that particular garden for many years, but it perished in one of the bitter winters recently. So lovely that they have replaced it, the scent is overpowering.

Out to dinner with friends tonight.

I've heard really good things about Zumba but never tried it. My sense of balance isn't always so great (the hubz has to catch me at times which always puzzles him lol) but I do love to dance. Maybe something worth trying?

Oh and Mimosa tree sounds looooovely, Kissa! They are one of my favourite flowers after the years spent in Italy where they are everywhere in spring time. I even had mimosas in my wedding bouquet as a tribute to this part of my life.
