It’s tempting to take off a couple more pounds to get into the 7s! But I’m trying to be restrained. At least, I think I should take advantage of a fairly quiet spell to get an idea of where my break-even point is — 5:2/6:1 & all that stuff.

When I was in my late teens I was around 7½ st. In my early 20s I was 7st 12. When I got to 8 st people started telling me I needed to watch my weight! Of course, the weight that looks good at 20 doesn’t necessarily look so good at 50+, but it’s still what I always think of as my “real” size/weight.

I have quite a lot of clothes at my current size, and in shops that aren’t teen or high fashion, it often seems to be the smallest size, so there are probably good practical reasons for staying where I am

I was 8st 1.6 this morning, after my down day. About 8st 3 the rest of the time.

It’s probably time to stop obsessing about my weight and get a life .

Well from long experience I can confirm that the world out there is not all it's cracked up to be :-) Safer here...

Apologies for being MIA: was on a lightning tour of England, with mad weekend of theatre (got to see Punchdrunk's "The Drowned Man", hooray!!), friends, parties, singing and eating in London, then a few days of mad family and of sorting and packing Stuff in the Attic Barn (got very gritty doing that). Then it was carnival once I got back here, ergo utter madness, and prancing around as a cat in the actual parade (very cool, description on my blog if anyone's interested).

Interestingly, while I'd been rather down about being SOLID whilst in England - so many of the clothes of my younger years didn't fit :-( - when I got back, despite being ridiculously naughty foodwise whilst away (losing battle chez Mother, the Queen of the Marmalade Sandwich, and sadly many of the English foods I miss are carb-laden...), the velvet trousers I mentioned a while ago as part of my costume did up OK (uncomfortably, but hey, they did up) and failed to cut me in half, which I fully expected. Strange relationship, that of our bodies and food.

Congratulations to Shy, and welcome back Kissa, glad you're feeling better Mimosa, argh on boilers Ailuros, hope you didn't get the cold Lola, and hello everyone else, nice to be back!

Hi Amin!
Welcome to our cozy group!

I'm Dutch and live in Germany by way of the UK (studied there and worked there for a bit) and Spain (work). You are in good company with all of us scattered around!

I spent three months living in Paris, loved the city, still love visiting there.

Hi to everyone, am on my last bit of stress at work and then it's off to Cologne for the weekend and then: Norway!!! So exciting. So I'll check in when I get back from my trip. Please keep your fingers crossed that we will see the Aurora Borealis...

Have a lovely weekend (apparently it's going to be great weather-wise!) and see you here in 10 days' time!

xx

Not very soon, Shy. July. I’ve just been talking about it because I was making all the arrangements. And because I was having fantasies about being somewhere warm & sunny!

I’m feeling very dull among all you world travellers. I’ve never lived outside England.

So let's see.
Basically I decided that 2014 was going to be my year and that it was time to change my eating habits for good. So far so good!

I'm sensitive to gluten (which can make life in Paris very boring if one lingers on it) so choosing a WOEating/Life that was gluten-free was the obvious thing to do. In order to also cater to my hubby (who isn't a picky eater but would raise eyebrows at me if I went bonkers with being too strict), I decided on Low Carb High Fat and I love it. It gives me so many options for what to cook, in fact, I've never dug up and tried this many recipes before in my life!

I started back in January and after 2 weeks also added some IF à la 16:8 into the mix which is working out beautifully. I'm no longer a raving starving maniac in the morning but rather happy with just my coffee (with a splash of heavy cream) until noon or even later (am pushing that hour to test my comfort zone).

Stats under my avatar. I just updated to reflect that 150 (68kg) is actually the goal that I set when joining another challenge on here and it was what I was hoping to realistically achieve by my friend's wedding. Ultimate goal is 132 (60kg). My scales are obviously in kg.

Okay, enough babbling from me for now. =)

Hi Amin! (and everyone else!)

I'm English, by way of an Australian Passport too - and I live in Oman - and just to add to the mix - I'm Kissa's daughter!

As you can all tell by my absence - I am currently not dieting - I need to start - but life is way too much fun at the moment! I was tempted to start tomorrow - but have a business lunch, then I'm running a Team Building workshop on Monday, Lunch @ a friend's on Tuesday - a Baby Shower (for my neighbour) on Wednesday - and then it's the weekend again!!!! Yesterday - I had all the 'girls' over for a Girls night in - that involved sushi and cocktails - and several friends staying over - our 'Boys' were doing a 42km work through the desert/mountains for charity -I think we had a better time!!!

So anyway - I will manage something - I'm sure!!! We're going to start a support group here!

Hope you are all well - will try to visit more!!

Helloooo! Can you take another newbie here? I'm an American living in the UK...have done for almost 25 years now. I married a Brit ....but got rid of him about 8 years ago. I have a daughter who is doing her PhD in London. When she decides where to settle I may follow her.
I've been doing LC for a few years and it suits me. But the sugar monster is always lurking in the background, and I need all the support I can get to resist.

No beating yourself up, shykins! You've made an amazing journey (yes, I've been lurk reading the thread). Just brush it off and get back into the good lifestyle!

Hi virgo! We can be s together here. =)

I'm gonna post this question in like all the threads I'm in as I need some input for this week!
So I made goulash this weekend (and it was awesome, I have pics if you wanna see hehe) and part of the ingredients list was celery, which I could only get like a huuuuuge batch of. So now I'm stuck with like way too much celery at home and aside from tossing it in our normal sallad or coleslaw, I'm not sure what to do with it. Help!

You can braise it as a vegetable. I’ll dig out the details if you’re interested.

It’s like boiling, but with less liquid.

Quote:
6 heads of lettuce or celery
salt & pepper
6 thick slices streaky bacon
2½ oz butter
2 oz sliced carrot
2 oz sliced onion
¾ pint beef stock
¼ pint dry white wine or vermouth herb bouquet of parsley, thyme, bay 3 Tbsp chopped parsley

Instructions
Pre-heat the oven to 180°C/350°F

Trim and wash the lettuce or celery, then plunge them into boiling, salted water. (Lettuce 3-5 mins, celery 15 mins). Remove them from the water, put them into cold water to cool for a couple of minutes, then squeeze as much water as possible out with your hands. Lettuce - cut in half lengthways, then fold to make a triangle. Celery - tie up with kitchen string to keep the stalks together.

In a casserole, cook the onions and carrots slowly with the butter until tender but not browned. Move the bits to the edge of the casserole, arrange the lettuce or celery in the middle, then spoon some of the onions and carrots over the top, along with the bacon.

Cover the top with buttered paper and put in the oven for 1½ hours. Remove the lettuce or celery, keeping it warm, and boil down the braising liquid until it is syrupy. Away from the heat, swirl in 1 oz butter and the chopped parsley. Serve immediately, pouring the sauce over the vegetables.
