Taken from: Eating Clean For Dummies by Jonathan Wright, Linda Johnson Larsen

Eating clean involves not only choosing the right foods to eat but also avoiding all of the junk foods and processed foods that are so readily available. The keys to good health and proper nutrition are in the following principles:

Eat whole foods: Whole foods are foods that haven’t been tampered with, in the lab or the manufacturing plant. The foods you eat on this plan are straight from the farm: whole fruits and vegetables, whole grains, grass-fed and free-range meats, low fat dairy products, unsalted nuts, and seeds.

Avoid processed foods: Processed foods are any food that has a label. A label means that more than one ingredient was used to make that food. You don’t have to eliminate all processed foods (like whole grain pasta or natural cheeses), but if you can’t pronounce an ingredient on a label, don’t put that food in your shopping basket.

Eliminate refined sugar. Refined sugar provides nothing but calories. Other sweeteners can be used, but with all the good foods you add to your diet, refined sugar really has very little place in the eating clean plan.

Eat five or six small meals a day. By eating smaller meals throughout the day you can help rev up your metabolism and reduce the chance that you’ll eat some Funyuns rather than that whole grain cracker with nut butter and strawberries. You never get so hungry on this plan that you’ll feel deprived or feel the need to cheat.

Cook your own meals. Instead of buying meals in a box, cook meals from scratch. That’s not as hard as it sounds! Clean, whole foods need little preparation beyond chopping and sautéing to make satisfying, delicious meals your family will love.

Combine protein with carbs. When you do snack or eat a meal, make sure that meal is balanced. For the most satisfaction from your diet, and so you’ll be less tempted to eat junk food, combine protein with carbs or carbs and fat. This simple act will fuel your body and quash hunger pangs

I'm Cle!

I haven't been on LCF for a while, but I've lost a lot of weight while completing challenges here. I have 100 lbs to lose, at least, according to my dr so I don't want the month of December to get out of hand. I've lost 60 lbs this year already, but I need to keep trucking. Still have a ways to go!

Every day counts!

Hey boos! I'm here!

I'm going to think about goals/mini-challenges for myself and then I'll come back & post 'em here.

What's been working for me lately has been calorie counting & logging my food during the work week...I think I'm going to try cycling a bit, but gotta do more research. I definitely gotta get back into an exercise routine, even if it's walking.

Well... ladies.... guess I am a little late for today.... but I had already set up to kick my butt in gear come morning... so if you dont mind I would like to join you and see what good we can do by Xmas. I have been doing nothing but gaining over the last few weeks... not happy with that. I plan to do a lower carb approach ... trying for at least 80/20 primal. I know I feel so much better when I do that... but the evil sugar fairy has been riding my shoulder lately.

Good Morning!!!

How is everyone?!?!

I haven't low carbed in foreverrrrrr! Today I'm going to try Chris Powell's turbo plan which reminds me of JUDD. I'm having an omelet for breakfast now and I have boiled eggs if needed.

What are you eating?

Mawnin'!

Breakfast: Spoonful of coconut oil, coffee with creamer & Splenda, small bag of Cheez-Its
Lunch: PB&J on wheat, portion of pretzels, apple sauce cup
Snack: String cheese, possibly sugar-free Jell-O Temptation
Dinner: Not sure yet

I eat based off of calories, but try to keep my macronutrient percentages to a certain amount. Looking at my previous food diary entries, I usu. eat 200-250 carbs or less daily.

ETA: Your omelet sounds yummy! I wish I knew how to make a decent omelet without it looking sad. LOL

Good grief, ya'll are up with the birds.... This west coast girl is gonna have to get up extra early to keep up with you!

I am carb cycling and have been since mid-September.... So far I've lost about 23'ish pounds. Today is a high carb day...thank goodness, cause I am craving some fruit today.
This morning was nonfat greek yogurt with granola and some coffee. The rest of the day, not sure as I have some cooking to do..but I know there will be fruit involved!

Cle, make sure you get in a carb every morning w/ the first meal and nothing from the fats list. I'm sure you "know" this already, just reminding because some people tend to forget that we are allowed something off the carb list every morning regardless of what day it is.

I didn't know, but thanks for letting me know. I skimmed through it but haven't read it thoroughly.
I'm a very early riser, so I usually try and post early and come back in and check.

I'm an early riser for these parts over here....you girls have a couple hours jump on me.

Yes, it's a HC meal every single morning no matter what kind of day you have.... and eat within 30 min. of waking. Crazy, I know, but you get used to it!

Just read through a guide...I can't eat 30 mins after waking up so I'll have to adjust. I may just end up cycling, but I like the list of approved foods etc. Looks good.
