From Z :"From here on out, it only gets harder. A candy bar is tempting, but potatoes, stuffing, homemade rolls, and gravy are tradition. This is only practice for the real test.

I wish all of you all of the success in the world, over these coming holidays.[/QUOTE]"---Z

Hi Z~~

I'm German, and if someone told me I could live 9 years without fruit, potatoes, rice, pasta & beer, I would have told them they were crazy. Bottom line is, you have to want it bad enough to forego said 'taste'....and for some of us, a 'taste' is like alcohol to an alcoholic.....can't be done. I did learn that weight loss is a journey, and a process of discovering myself. My late husband was a pastry chef....if I can lose, and maintain a 235 weight loss, anyone can. I'm human, just like everyone here, with the same fears, dreams and goals....let us revel in all of our accomplishments this year; even if any of us fell a bit short & didn't meet a personal goal, what would your BFF tell you??! Treat yourself with kindness.....and just being here at LCF is an accomplishment to start somewhere, right?

Wow Harriet - you are quite an inspiration!!! Not just because of your weight loss success but also your words of encouragement - they really resonate with me! Thank you!

I weighed myself this morning and my Wii Fit reminded me it had been 9 days since I last weighed in - don't you just hate a scale that nags at you? Fortunately I had lost 2.4lbs which isn't especially remarkable but I am still happy about it. A couple of my colleagues at work are eating lowcarb too which helps me stay on track!

I'm planning ahead for Thanksgiving so that I have foods that I can eat without feeling deprived. I will be going to my brother's house and I don't want to make a fuss about eating a special diet so I'm planning to eat my turkey in a Ceasar salad w/ seasoned almonds in lieu of croutons and then I will bring my crab and cream cheese ball which I can either eat with celery or I might just try some low carb crackers I saw a recipe for on this site. I'm even thinking of bringing some faux potatoes made from cauliflower and a low carb cheesecake for dessert. It is a lot to cook but if it helps me avoid a slippery situation it will be worth it!

TY binkamom! 2.4 pounds is a LOT of weight.....whenever you don't think it is, just pick up two 1 pound sacks of the 'dastardly' sugar they sell in 'Wally-world' and think about how that had to come off of your body somewhere. just FEEL it and you can derive encouragement from there! I can remember when I first had my band installed, and I had lost 80 pounds in 4 months. On someone weighing over 400 pounds, it was like spitting into an ocean; you really couldn't even see that I had lost that much. I went into a petsmart, loaded up 4 twenty pound sacks of cat litter in a shopping cart, and pushed it around for awhile....I was amazed how much weight it was.....now I've lost a large man-sized human being, and cannot believe I am still alive...I am truly blessed and must have the heart of a lion not to have come out of this nightmare without any health issues. I had the typical triad....diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, 21 medications in all to manage those diseases....now all I take is a multivitamin. Like others here, my lipid profile has never looked better with getting rid of the carbs. The band was only part if it....the remainder is low carb eating....my BFF followed the same diet here, dropped 125 pounds, and got rid of her cane she used for her osteoarthritic knees. So it does work. If I would have thought I could lose that much weight in 33 months, I would have called myself a liar. It was insurmountable. Even 5 pounds is daunting, particularly if it's the last five pounds of a personal goal. It's still an all out WAR that you will be battling. It gets easier with time; but temptation is everywhere....I've stopped socializing around food now, as well-meaning people just don't get this diet: "you gotta have carbs and fruit, your body doesn't need the fat as you will die from a heart attack"....yeah?? Then why don't I have diabetes anymore, and why is my cholesterol 172, HDL 65, LDL 92 triglycerides 90???? I've never eaten so much HWC, chocolate, cheese, avocados in my entire life!! Carbs are the ENEMY for my body, as is sugar in any form. Both cause intense food cravings with me....I won't even touch it as it takes a week for my body to get rid of the cravings. It's not worth it!!
Well done to make your own food and take it along; I don't care if anyone is offended. I ask them 'is my health important to you, do you care enough to support me on this new journey? If not, I'm sorry to have to leave you at the airport, as my ship has come in. I'm sailing now, enjoy yourself. No hard feelings!" I ended a 12 yr friendship with a girlfriend who didn't want me to change....should have seen her drop her jaw when she saw how I looked after losing all this weight.....THESE are the memory recall items I use to get me thru tough times....as well as finding encouragement with all the LCF here. I love this website and the people here who are SO helpful and encouraging thru ones' darkest hours.
Holidays are full of emotions, good and bad; I'm an emotional eater...I put limits on the parties, get my rest, and inform hostesses everywhere that I will attend their event late as I have other obligations...even it it's washing my hair!! Just remember: YOU'VE GOTTA DO WHAT YOU'VE GOTTA DO; THIS MEANS PUTTING YOURSELF FIRST. If you don't, you will finish dead last. Which is worse?? Dead or last?? I didn't want to be either.....and women are horrible at putting themselves first.....family & friends come first, right? That's the way I was raised....women were the sacrifice. Heh heh heh....well, the meek shall inherit the Earth and I can assure you, that I am h*ll on wheels now!!! I've never felt better and MORE ALIVE. No longer am I just existing.......

As I've probably mentioned before, I will be moving to from Arizona back to Oregon this week. This will likely have a direct impact on my weight readings, because it requires me to move my scale - and there are no perfectly flat surfaces in my current dwelling.

Just to illustrate that this is not a dodge, and to maintain full accountability I will make sure to take a new reading before thanksgiving and after.

Well... Since Thursday (when my kid became very sick with a virus and a fever that refused to break until TODAY) all my days have been UD or MD... My nerves are shot. Sunday is a standard UD no matter what it actually is, because it's my family's day to eat together. Tomorrow is my actual UD and I've gotten into the routine with the other UD girls... I don't want to switch it. =) So Tuesday is my next DD, but tomorrow I'm not going to eat like a buffalo! =D

Hey everyone. I weighed myself at work and the readings are 150.5 kg

Dirty Harriet your post up there on the 16th was great! I just reread it and it hit the spot for me and my emotional melt down yesterday. Just wanted to say thank you.

I am wondering how Z's move is going? Are you settled in yet? I see you are still losing. That must feel empowering.

Had to abandon my van between Tucson and needles. Was able to borrow enough money to rent a moving truck and complete the journey. Effectively losing a month's wages for nothing like that was disappointing, but my life's work was preserved, and the tools of my trade survived the trip. It has taken me 15 years to amass my array of musical instruments, software, recording equipment, and my backlog of music. Despite the overused platitude, they're not just things. My own safety is secondary to preserving my work.

In short, it was bad but it could have been much worse. I am as pleased with the outcome as I could be, given the circumstances.

Lost ketosis because of sausages, but did not gain much weight. I'm back to eggs and roast. And I believe the damage well be minimal.

Sorry for your stress & loss of money but glad to hear you & your life's work survived.
Your weight may fluctuate due to cortisol but as you know that will correct itself. Glad you checked in as quite a few of us were hoping your move was going well.
Happy Thanksgiving!

Stayed on plan for Thanksgiving, though I did allow myself a bit more cheese, salami, and olives than usual. I will weigh and post tomorrow.

How did everyone do, making it past that next hurdle?

Since stuffing is my biggest weakness I solved it by fixing a prime rib. I did overdo on the roasted veggies, sauteed green beans and hummus but I was up only 1 pound. I did have one tiny taste of mashed potatoes and cheesy-chili corn.

I am so proud of you!

I gained 5 lbs. It would have been more except that I pump iron now. So I guess that kept the extra carbs from me gaining like 10 lbs (according to my holiday eating that is what I deserve). I ate all my kids peanut butter chocolate candies from halloween (slowly, not like in one sitting LOL) SO I feel bad for stealing from my kids too.

I intend to lose those 5 lbs back in time for my wedding. On the solstice!

I think it is weird that we can gain even though when I was eating off plan, I was still eating fewer carbs than the rest of America. It kinda makes me mad. It was only like 80-90 carbs a day, and in the movie Fathead, that guy at about that much while losing. Bun on burger. I wish my maintenance was 90. IDK why its not.
