I'm so angry. I was almost ready to say I was cured of this horrible BED using mindful eating etc and my hypnosis tape which I'm loving. I was actually learning to eat like a skinny person, eating when hungry, having a few bites, stopping when slightly full and I felt freedom from food for the first time since being a kid. I had gotten to my lowest of 115 lbs and then all hell broke lose with a the queen of all binges, high calorie dense poison, I probably consumed 6000 calories. Again it started with an innocent pear and apple - I just can't have fruit when I know a binge is coming. It's starts with being more hungry than usual earlier in the day and a kind of anxious buzzing. This is when I need to stop and reflect, meditate, relax, listen to my tape, distract, whatever, but once I start eating that's it, and the earlier in the day the worse it is because it's a long day of eating ahead.

I guess I got cocky and need to realise how insiduous this disease is and how tight it has it's claws in me. I managed to pick myself up, treat it like a leptin re-feed and put it behind me. I've been IF'ing with coffee and just meat, one hour cycle yesterday, a 2 3/4 hour walk this today on an empty stomach, and just meat, fish for next few days. It's never going to be perfect and if I've learnt anything it is to never be complacent and to be able put mistakes behind me, no point in dwelling over them or else I would just keep binging.

Mojo, sorry buddy I was on a horrible 10 day binging spree, just got back on track and this evening an innocent apple made me binge too.

That's awesome that you can get back on track after 10 days Marika and here am I complaining about one day I don't know what to say anymore about our issues. I thought I had an answer and was experimenting and hoping to come back with good news. I was planning a binge as well, it was to be a planned binge but my being in control of the it rather than the other way around so it slapped me in the face when it happened like it did. How long will this BED last? Will I be a little old lady, dribbling and binging on my birthday cake? Does it go away as we get older? I can't imagine another xxxxx years of this self-inflicted torture

Mojo
I really do think our binging is caused by food restriction(s) and some hormonal shift that happens when we lose fat from our bodies. I don't understand why some folks are able to lose weight without later having issues with food like we do?? I think some of it is mental with me but also feel like there is a very strong physical pull at work as well.

Sending hugs Mojocat...I don't know why its so hard wish I did. Some people just seem to do JUDDD or whatever and lose weight at the blink of an eye and others like us find it all so hard. I agree with Jeaniem - hormones do have a lot to answer for.

This is where i start getting despondent. Sticking to low carb low cal plan and I've lost nothing since I started. It's really frustrating just yo yoing up and down grrrr. Daren't do juddd at this point in time as I know on the UD my body will grab it!!!! I go to the gym 4 or 5 times a week and this is my set point so disappointing. I am controlled and don't even binge !!!

Well gotta keep on cannot give up.

That sucks Lola, doing the right thing, no binging and still no movement. Can you throw in a couple of IF days in? That seems to work for me.

I will try that but usually as soon as I eat again it goes back on.

AND honestly. All I have eaten today is the Dukan pancake, Soy cappuccino, smoked salmon and scrambled egg.

That is a pretty low day.

I'm sorry Lola, I guess you have done the usual things and have had your thyroid checked to see if it's a health issue? I can't understand why you aren't losing. It's not fair - you don't binge and do the right things and can't lose whilst us others would lose if not for the binging..grr... If I ate what you did combined with the exercise I do it would fall off me!

To my fellow bingers I averted a binge yesterday!! DH got made redundant yesterday and I was craving fruit and GY. It wasn't real hunger I was just looking for food to soothe me. The food wasn't on my plan and as it was early in the day I knew deep down if I started on them it would spiral into a binge. I was outside, keys in hand ready to jump in to drive to supermarket. I forced myself back inside and wrote in my craving diary (you can download various ones on the net) writing my feelings, how I felt physically and mentally, what the implications would be and alternatives etc. Guess what it worked!! It extinguished that craving and within half and hour I was jumping for joy that I didn't succumb and was on plan. Rewarded this morning with a small loss on the scale. So please guys, it does work. I've made up a craving log with plenty of sheets and am almost looking forward to the next craving to kick that one in the guts as well.

Good to hear that, Mojo! It must feel great being in control. I guess every time you win, the desire to binge will die off.
Off to look it up the craving diary on the net.

Mojo...that's fantastic. Good diversion

Actually haven't had my thyroid checked but getting things done like that with the doctors in the UK is a nightmare unless you are really ill. But I will give it some thought.

Same here Lola, they will NOT do the proper thyroid tests here i.e. the reverse T3/T4. I had to absolutely insist my Dr do it and in the end when I got the results it wasn't done, he just did the normal thyroid function test which is inaccurate. They consider it too expensive. They're not interested in preventative measures.

I have been reading MDA which has a lot of threads on binging and 5htp seems to be mentioned. Apparently Dr Murray who wrote a book on this amino has stated he has never seen anyone in his practice continue to binge whilst on it. Brave soul, I wonder if some of us can wreck his stats. (Not for you Marika darling it's contraindicated which you probably know).

Anyway I have read the Diet Cure previously but I didn't take 5htp I took Ltrypto. DLP did nothing and GABA gave me a panic attack, however, I am going to try the 5H. Apparently if 5H doesn't work then apparently you try Ltryp and vice versa so this is my new experiment. 5h promotes satiety and I hate that full tummy feeling so let's see what happens. I've dug out my dog-eared Diet Cure book. Thankfully the weather here is foul, thunder storms and pouring rain; good day for a read.

Seriously sticking with it. Hardly ate anything over last 24 hours cos been sick with tummy bug. I am beginning to wonder if it is the medication that I am taking to help with menopausal insomnia....I don't usually advocate blaming medicines but am starting to wonder...why don't the scales budge...grrrr.

Steel determination wanna get down to 64kgs...hmm I wonder lol

I have tried so many things and have the 5htp maybe I should give it another try as well. I think it made me tired?? In the cupboard I have several bottles regular ,time released, one mixed with amino acids, and one with vitamin C/B6 combo. I have no idea why so many varieties and there was something about not mixing with wellbutrin right
