No biggie Cindy, I am sure you will be down to previous number soon. I find all nuts too addictive (I think most of us do . Give me mac nuts and I can finish the whole bag in one day

Darn Mojocat my lovely boy is spoken for..now that would have been an ideal situation for a swap lol. Yes so sorry about the bush fires it looks awful and I hope that no one get burnt etc. Must be quite scary. What part of Australia are you in?

Thank you Marika for your help with JUDDD

I didn't think my DH would like the kindle cos he's a kind of old fashioned type of guy with things...but he loves it too. Well he has his on his ipad mini.

Also the brilliant thing about them is that you can download samples of books and they give you a good couple of chapters to read before you decided if you like the book so that is another added bonus ...convinced yet lol.

Yes I Agee. Any kind of nut really. I've got some lush luxury mixed salted nuts from costco. Cashew almonds pecan blah blah. And I gave them a bashing last week. Before joining this challenge. Started with just a few and escalated to loads lol

Jeaniem there is nothing really new in the book, but at the end she gives a lot of info and breaks it down in little bits that just seemed to hit a spot with me. For instance, sharing a meal or dessert with DH - she suggests your cut your portion off first because the other person will be pitchforking the dessert while you are trying to savour yours slowly and thus create stress and you end up eating quickly and more just so you don't miss out. This is hilarious, I can so relate to this and just didn't expect to read this in a self-help book - such a minor little story but that's what I like about her, she picks up on the small things that make me laugh and I can relate to but are do-able. Cutting a portion off your food and leaving on your plate to trick the brain into thinking there is an abundance of food. Heaping your plate full to give the illusion of abundance. The huge benefits of a 10 minute brisk walk when the urge comes. I am so going to do this, it's no effort to go for a 10 min brisk walk, no need to put trainers on, no need to get changed, just walk out in your high heels if you need to. I just laughed at the picture of her walking out in her high heels from starbucks.

Also unlike others she doesn't expect you to put on weight and embrace your new 50lbs. She does advise to stop restricting, but not necessarily to lose weight. I do know if I restrict foods I want them badly and if I don't it's like..meh. Trouble is the foods I restrict - sugar and gluten - I am very sensitive too and feel better when they aren't in my diet. I'm non-negotiable on that. I've tried to incorporate these forbidden foods but they create hunger, cravings, physical symptoms and a restlessness/anxiety in my brain and I know these are not good for me. I wouldn't mind using CAD for incorporating some foods. For instance planning it, having a fatty piece of meat and following up with the desired food afterwards and eating within the hour. I would love to experiment with this and see if I can be satisfied doing this or will it create the frenzy?

I felt after reading it that my body isn't sabotaging or working against me (especially with binging) that our body knows what it's doing and we will eventually eat less if we give up the control to our body. Having a pleasurable activity to look forward to straight after eating; this is priceless for me and I am planning this. No checking Marika and low carbe friends updates until I have eaten...LOL...

I've already put actions in place and I have NEVER done this with other self help books. I've created a designated eating space - at the table, no TV, no computer, no kindle, just concentrating on eating and feeling satisfied. This is a very big issue for me, I eat too much, get the stuffed gut feeling which triggers more eating and eventual binging. I don't know why this happens. Does a full gut trigger off insulin or do chemicasl click into the brain to keep eating? My challenge is to stop when comfortable and this is something I have to work on. I hate leaving my meals - I just want to eat the whole thing. So I'm using a small china salad plate and am heaping that with food. I've typed up the notes that I will take onboard and keep them with me and will be reading every day. I'm going to really work on this. Today I got annoyed at work and immediately felt like eating and then remembered bits of her books and I was able to extinguish that anger without eating. Why would eating make me feel better? It will just make things worse in the long run.

I haven't had a real binge in a while; I'm thinking it's the WB. I mean I have overeaten pears, oranges and greek yoghurt and it could have turned into a full binge but somehow I'm able to recover.

I don't think any book will have all the answers for us, we just have to pick and choose the bits that call to us, just like the perfect WOE that we tailor make for ourselves.. I still like BOB and ignoring the lower brain along with the practical recommendations she makes in this book it has made me more hopeful than I have ever been and I'm feeling really happy and positive that I can be "normal" with food (although could be the WB) who knows.

Marika I don't have a kindle I just downloaded the free one onto my computer nd I buy their "books" that way and read from the computer. I wouldn't mind buying one but the trouble is I have a bit of a libray now and I don't know if buying a kindle would allow me to transfer the books from my lappie onto the kindle??

Sorry for grammar and typing, just had a horrible day with a horrible new boss...complete and utter control freak, I just don't know how people can honestly be so nasty, what the hell, I couldn't sleep at nights if I was that mean to people...anyway I'm happy to report I had a few dill pickles and will have another cup of coffee and go to bed early because I don't need food to soothe or medicate me

Thanks for all your thoughts mojo! I do like Josie's style and humor you can certainly tell she has experienced binge issues first hand. Some books annoy me as you can tell it is just a rehash of old suggestions that have never worked for me. I am about 1/2 way through the book so am just getting to the parts you referenced. CAD stopped working for me as I was stretcccccccccching the rules and allowing too many days with carbs!! I am not totally given up on the idea though I would still like to do something that helps the deprivation/binge cycle. I agree wholeheartedly with Josie that if I restrict long enough it is just a matter of time before I blow. I would like to get to the point where I can have something and not look at it as a total failure fall off the wagon scenario and just move on.

Mojo, I am happy you are incorporating the ideas from the book into practice.
I have noticed that eating large portions sometimes sets me off to binge. Is this insulin issue? I wonder if I would be better off eating smaller portions every 3 hrs. Maybe that would keep the sugar more stable. I used to eat like that before but I came across so many articles saying that it is not good to snack because is not good for the liver and weight loss. And then I came across leptin reset saying to eat 2-3 big meals a day and no snacking. Again, so many different opinions on that subject. I guess I have to try this and see how eating 4 times a day versus 3 times works. When I was a kid I remember eating good breakfast early in the morning, then 2-3 hrs later a sandwich, then around 3 or 4 PM good size dinner with soup and all the works and a very light snack in the evening. So it was 4 times a day.

I had no idea you can read that book on the computer without the kindle. I think I am going to get this book, as I am sure I can use some of the techniques even though my binging is hormonal. For one, I always eat in front of my lap tap. I know it is bad thing. I also eat way too fast. So many times I have noticed that I am still hungry after eating even though I ate 500-800 cal. It takes my brain 1 hr to register that I ate sufficient amount of food. they say it takes about 20 min, but my brain takes longer.
When I am not in my binging mode I can walk out the kitchen even though I still think I am hungry. I know that after some time I will feel full. The problem is when I am in binge mode, I can't wait 1 hr! I think going for a walk is a good idea.

I still think I need a kindle. I see quite few of them, but I have no clue how to chose one. I don't mind spending little bit more $ if I get something I will be happy in the long run. So which is a good one to get?

Lola- your numbers are looking good. They in kg. so it makes a difference. I forgot how to use kg since I moved to US

Mojo- sorry to hear about the nasty boss. That sucks

Oh Mojo my goes out to you.

I have just finished a 9 month maternity cover and I had the boss from hell not only a control freak but totally inconsistent. Tell me to do it one way and then when I did it that way it was wrong. All the things I did wrong was amazing and it really started to knock my confidence. However, I then looked at her work and OMG...it wasn't do as I do..it was actually do as I say. Her files were a mess she hadn't typed up any client notes for months and I mean months and yet she was on my back to keep my notes up to date daily (which I did) but they were always wrong. Anyway...I hope that you can suffer in silence cos that's just what I did in the end and said Yep yep yep....(thinking stuff you lol).

Ha ha Cindy love the peanut trash lol...good way or pour washing up liquid over food that's was a tactic that I used to use when the kids where little with the leftovers..

Marika and Jean great reading about the books etc. Don't be hard on yourself Jean I think we all beat ourselves us when we fall off the wagon..but the key is to get right back on and move forward if you can. You feel like rubbish when it happens I know.

Marika I started with the basic kindle then cos I thought I wanted to upgrade to a touch one I did and actually regret it...its so sensitive that I only have to knock it and I can lose my place or a whole chapter. I think that paperwhite looks good or even A have good deals on the "fire" which would have kindle facility on it. Also I sold my original one on the well known "marketplace" for a good price...so you could look there as well.

So off to Germany tomorrow for a little break with DH and will be back in circulation on Monday for 2 days. Will try hard not to undo my work so far.

Have a good one everyone x

Good idea Jeanie!

I had a mini binge tonight. It is a dreaded PMS time. I may not be checking my scale tomorrow.

10/22 day 70 164.5 (Probs because I ate peanuts {a lot of peanuts} - must not give in!!)
10/23 day 69 164.5 I poured the peanuts in the trash so they cannot be rescued and eaten.
10/24 day 68 163

You know, I'm not that worried about the scale because I can tell my stomach is getting smaller. But it's just wrong that the scales are wackadoodle and don't go down like they are supposed to.

Congrats on the numbers, Jeanie and Lola and Marika!

Lola, have a fun weekend with DH. My sister and I are going to a large quilt market in Houston this weekend and I know all of the carb food will be calling my name. And I will be ignoring it.

Is it too late for me to join? I'm on Induction until Thanksgiving. I plan on eating whatever my heart desires on that day only, then right back on Induction for the rest of the year.

10/22/13 day 70 270.1
10/23/13 day 69 268.0
10/24/13 day 68 266.0 (4 pounds down since Monday!)
