Jeannie so sorry that you are finding this so hard. I must admit I am not moving at all so also feel the frustration. Lets keep ploughing ahead and hopefully we will see some progress soon. I wonder what is triggering your eating to encourage you to eat more and gain again.

It's early days but I think I may reap something from the 5HTP, moreso than the L-trypto which had little effect on me. I'm feeling so far a subtle, gentle kind of AS and getting full quickly after a few bites so am sticking to plan with minimal hunger. It cost a small fortune from the compounding chemist as I was in a hurry to start, so I have a month's supply and I'm going to give it a good try. There are other ingredients in it, which could be why it was so expensive; magnesium and theanine (something like that can't be bothered getting the bottle out) the latter is supposed to work on cortisol levels, so this will be hitting seratonin and cortisol. Am feeling hopeful so far but yes it's early days; at least I'm not getting any nasty side effects.

I am personally tired of reading about conflicting diet WOE advice. I am just going ahead with my gut, pardon the pun, and do what always works for me naturally - skip breakfast and lunch, drink lo cal liquids and then just have a dinner. I've been doing this since taking the 5htp and am feeling great, eating this way is natural to me and is how I have always lost weight easily. I can't eat breakfast and I can't eat during the day; time after time this has always ended in a binge that lasts the rest of the day into the night. I don't know why this happens to me but I am just going to have to listen to my body. I'm sick and tired of always hearing eat breakfast, eat breakfast..it makes me binge. I don't feel the need to binge if I save myself until dinner time. I actually work up an appetite and hunger and enjoy my food. The key and trick for me is to stop as soon as I feel full and not allow myself to get uncomfortably full because that triggers something in my brain. If I have a big meal in front of me I'm loathe to do this and waste the meal, so my meals will be small and just what I feel like at the time. If it's a small piece of high cal cheese, so be it.

I'm also not going to worry about macros and nutrients yada yada. For the last few days I've just been eating greek yoghurt at night. I'm not even going to make meals for myself unless I want to. For instance if I just want some cheese I'm going to have that, or just a kransky or whatever. None of this having to cook some horrible tasting meal because it's good for me, I'm just going to go with what I want (excluding sugar and starch of course which are not good for me) but if I go to the supermarket and something appeals to me for dinner that's what I'm going to get. Anyway sticking to this plan for a month, exercise in the mornings on an empty tummy, which means getting up early but going to bed early instead and I just hope this gets me into a better mental place

Mojocat. I think I recently chucked a bottle of 5htp out arghhh. ...perhaps out of date. However, I like your approach and if that is what you feel works then that is what you should do.

I had often wondered about doing a similar thing skipping until evening meal but then thought that maybe my body would go into starvation mode and I wouldn't lose aka JUDDD advice. However, as I said if this is what is working for you then stick with it.

Maybe I need the same kick for my stagnant loss. Today I had the Dukan pancake, Soy capuccino and have just eaten some ham. Trying to do protein only this week. So maybe combined with a mixture of only eating in the evening. I will get to 66kg and 65kg lol I WILL.

As I said very empowering Mojocat. Thank you for sharing

Lola all the research is debunking the "starvation mode" and it takes a lot longer than 24 hours for starvation mode to set in..I think its in the region of 40 something hours, and even then it supposedly has more of a detrimental effect on lean people. Something I do find though that lack of sleep really affects my eating patterns and I can usually sense a binge day after a bad night. Hopefully 5htp will help with this but DH has just been made rendundant so life is pretty stressful atm. Would love to shove sugary food in my mouth to soothe but it's not going to help one little bit.

Mojocat. My heart goes out to you re lack of sleep it really does.

I've been to hell and back with menopause insomnia plus stress insomnia so I know it's sole destroying. I think that is why I bought the 5 htp in the first place but maybe I didn't give long enough but for my sleep it didn't work for me. So guessing I dumped it along with all the other hundreds of pounds I spent on herbal remedies which funnily I dumped the other week. However, might be worth considering taking again for other benefits

Everyone reacts differently so it may well work really well for you.

My body is very stubborn and has a mind of its own. Lol. I was even referred to the sleep clinic and that didn't work either. The consultant was absolutely barking and the things she suggested were nuts. Luckily finally the doctor found a mild sedative for me which works. Tho not every night so still suffer sometimes. ,!,

So sorry about DH situation too. Is work easy to come by in Australia or are you affected by the unemployment problems too ?

Interesting research reading about starvation mode and amount of hours. Would also be interested to read.

OMG I've just seen your stats. You've done fantastic with the weight loss absolutely fab.

Feel starving tonight but am determined to get those scales shifting. Lol

What DH does is very specialised and it will be hard for sure because he's not a young lad anymore. The trouble is they are getting rid of all the specialists who actually do and bring in the work and the upper hierachy pull the strings to ensure their highly paid jobs are safe. Pretty soon it will be full of bosses and no-one to do the actual work. As long as the bosses excessive salaries are safe they couldn't give a toss about the others. There are too many at the top; I just can't understand it.

Work here is bad; if people leave, are made redundant or retire they don't replace them, they expect everyone else to take on the extra work so everyone is over-worked. Also they love to employ people as temporary so they can give them the shove if they don't need them. I guess it's the same everywhere - any work going in the UK? I would go there in a heartbeat, love it, love it, one of my favorite places. Sorry for whinge, but it's awfully nice to have a vent.

Have you tried melatonin? It's OTC in the US but here only through a doctor. It works really well. It's a hormone so doesn't normally zonk you out the next day. Taken in conjunction with L-tryptophan it knocks me out. L-trypto was only good for sleeping for me; didn't do jack for my appetite and am finding the 5htp works better for that. I think 5htp may be more energising that the l-trypto and doesn't help with sleep although I have run out of melatonin. I do feel for you, insomnia sucks, I battled it for years and had the fat belly that came with it...I've lost 50 kilos Lola, almost half my body weight, every single ache and pain I had has been eliminated with it. I feel healthier and fitter than I did 10 years ago. Loving life but yep now will be in poverty..haha..won't have to worry about my weight, will be eating broth and dry bread..goodbye LC

Mojocat....I hate that all those chiefs and no indians...it isn't fair protecting their positions all of the way.

Yep you are right. It is the same here in the UK expecting everyone to take on extra work and do extra if people leave and then don't replace them by telling them that if we replace them then the whole team will be in jeopardy because its recession and we cannot afford to take on any more people. No one has a lunch hour any more sitting at their desks eating and taking minimal amount of time.

When I was a young girl (many centuries ago lol) We used to go to work to enjoy work and go swimming and to the pub in our lunch hours

I am so sorry because as you say it has come at a bad time in life and lets face it no one seems to want you once you are over 40 years of age. However, here in the UK a lot of the retail stores are happy to take people in their 60's. So yeah come over here and get a job with one of our major retail stores. I can guarantee after a year of being here with the cold, dank and dark nights you will want to be back in Aus....Maybe a house swap is the answer lol.

Melatonin..yep they prescribed that at the Sleep Clinic. The consultant even said I don't think it will work on you - so that wasn't very encouraging. She told me that I was far too active and I needed to take a rest every couple of hours or so and relax (WTH) you are joking aren't you I am not 80 years of age. Also and you will love this one...don't got to bed too early you go at 10.30 pm and its too early - get your potters wheel out and do some pottery for a couple of hours. "POTTERS WHEEL" what planet did she live on...oh yeah I.ll be texting all my friends and saying "I.m chucking tonight what do you want an ashtray? Vase? So that didn't work either. lol. I do have sleeping tranqs for really bad periods just a few from doc to use in emergency. Otherwise this other sedative they give me is pretty good.

Apologies to whoever else is reading this that its strictly not about dieting. Mojocat I was going to PM you all the above drivel lol but you are not enabled for PM.

The weight loss you should be proud of yourself that is a fantastic achievement and great that you are now benfitting for feeling so much healthier.

Have a good day everyone (how are you doing Jeaniem?) - hope its a good one.

Sorry girls I dropped out temporarily. I am getting my appetite back after being sick so I will be getting back on JUDDD and will start recording my weights soon. It is possible that I may get close to my goal weight, but I am not stressing over if I don't. I am hovering around 125-126 now, might be more with the PMS bloat.

Sorry Lola! I got so obsessed and depressed trying to stay on plan that I just didn't have the motivation to post much. Feeling optimistic again and don't want to lose total control over the holidays, so I will check in every day good, bad and ugly

18 day til the New Year

I know I won't make my maintenance goal, but it will be a victory in itself to at the very least not gain anymore weight until then

Dec 14 139.6
