UK/Europe/Middle East/Ex-pats ó Autumn

Hello. I thought Iíd give us a bit more flexibility in how long we keep the thread going :).

My weigh-in this morning was 3 lb down from 1 August. Not bad considering we had a weekend of hotel/family wedding and nine days of liberal eating and drinking when we had friends staying.

If I can lose 3 pounds this month, Iíll be 1 stone lighter than at the start of October last year .

blotto76 09-01-2013 05:20 AM

Great idea Ailuros. And congrats on the steady weight loss!

I started the Paleo Whole30 today - it's finally time to do something about my terrible eating.

Have a great September all!

x

Marking my spot!

Kissa 09-01-2013 11:04 AM

I'm here.

Mimosa23 09-02-2013 06:30 AM

I'm here too! Posting more when I'm not so darn tired! I'm barely awake and I need to get work done....

Kissa 09-02-2013 09:20 AM

Enjoying my first DD since last Wednesday. I am trying to stick to 5:2 and still lose a little.

Glad you have chosen a plan Blotto, I know you can stick with it.

Ailuros great idea to give us an Autumn thread. You are really getting the best out of JUDDD this time. It is great that DH does it too of course but it still comes down to each of us in the end.

Vicky, time to climb back on board. Let us know how work is going?

Sorry you are so tired Mimosa. You are eating so healthily too. Are you sleeping okay?

MintQ8 09-02-2013 10:27 AM

First DD for me too - high one about 700 cals, but a good start!

Getting busy with work - just need some quotes to be accepted

Kissa 09-02-2013 03:02 PM

Inshallah!

Mimosa23 09-03-2013 01:40 AM

Morning all!

Ailuros, thanks for starting our seasonal thread! Much better this way, we can now at least keep going for a bit!

Cindy and Vicky: good luck on the DDs!

Blotto: well done on starting whole 30, I'm sure you'll do great!

Everyone else: hope you are all well, missing you!

Had a great night's sleep so feeling much better. BF is away on business, so I've got the house and the remote control to myself! It's a bit boring, but the dog is keeping me busy. I'm sleeping badly some nights because of my back, which is occasionally still giving me bother. Thankfully last night I was too tired to care and slept very well.

For the rest, no big news at the moment. Work is busy, I've had to find a new assistant quickly, and I'm happy to say I think I found a jewel! She's starting work in two weeks' time, so fingers crossed!

No DD for me today:

B: 3 eggs, hardboiled, 2 TB melted cultured butter and some cayenne and turmeric and seasalt
L: Buffalo mozarella, avocado, tomato with a pesto/ olive oil dressing
D: 3 egg omelette with ruebli cheese (a raw milk cheese) and a side salad

I'm all excited because my local organic supermarket is finally stocking raw milk again! They don't do so in summer because of the potential 'going bad' scaries! Anyway, bring on raw milk creamy yoghurt! I'm making some this weekend! And raw milk kefir, and I'll drink a glass every day just like that too! Really helps support the immune system, and I can recommend it to everyone. I generally think pasteurised milk is the devil's drink, it is so horrible, but raw milk tastes fresh, is creamy, and you can detect a smidgen of hay aroma in it. It is delicious! Ok, enough promotion of raw milk, please carry on with your day, LOL!

xxx mims

Sounds good, Mimosa. I think I’ll revive my kefir production. We get 2 L of raw Jersey milk delivered every Thursday (and a tub each of cream and yoghurt).

I’m lying face down on the floor with my iPad at the moment, hoping the niggles in my back can be reversed before they get too bad!

I'm jealous of your milk deliveries, and yummy, fresh cream too!!!!!

I hope your back niggles don't get too bad! I am a big fan of ibuprofen in such situations.... LOL!

Ailuros 09-03-2013 02:11 AM

I bought the milk at the farmers market initially, but then he started delivering, which means I don’t need to carry it!

blotto76 09-03-2013 02:24 AM

Hi all

Hope DDs are going well Kissa and Mint.

Hope you start sleeping better Mim.

Ailuros/Mim, I'm curious, does raw milk taste different to the normal stuff?

All good on paleo so far - I still need to wean myself off the fruit but it's a huge improvement from the sugary junk had been gorging on.

Where are Lola, Shy, Jan, Blondie, Juno etc....?

x

Ailuros 09-03-2013 03:41 AM

I don’t find the taste hugely different, Blotto. Not as big as the difference between pasteurised and UHT. It’s just a bit more milky tasting, if that makes any sense.

Mimosa23 09-03-2013 04:48 AM

For me it tastes fresher, with light hay like notes. I think pasteurised, homogenised milk tastes like lightly sweet white slime with a bummy aftertaste...

I grew up drinking raw milk, and when we didn't have that anymore (can't remember why) I stopped drinking milk pure. I still had some in tea and cereals, but since I started with LC years ago, I stopped milk altogether. Only recently I bought some raw milk, and realised I actually like milk! It also doesn't affect my weightloss. I don't count the carbs in my daily glass of milk, and it seems to be fine that way. Maybe because all the natural goodness is still there, it seems to work differently from the factory stuff.

Ailuros 09-03-2013 04:50 AM

The supermarket milk I get isn’t homogenised, so,that might help a bit.

Mimosa23 09-03-2013 06:20 AM

OMG, this thread is turning into the milk thread, LOL!

Here, I can only buy special organic Demeter certified non-homogenised milk. It's pasteurised, though... All other non-raw milk is both pasteurised and homogenised.

Personally, I love non-homogenised milk, you get the best cream just like that, I love putting it in my BPC!

Hello friends,
Seems like Sepember is off to a good start. Sorry you are feeling so tired, Mimosa. Hope your back niggles go away, Ailuros. Sounds like you hit the ground running, Mint - hope all continues to go well. Blotto, seems like you've found a good plan for you :)
I am trying my first DD in several months. Not bad so far...busy cleaning before my mum's visit on Thursday!
Here's to a good Sepember for us all!
Jan x

Kissa 09-03-2013 11:39 AM

Ooh a Mum visit Jan, how lovely. Hope your DD continued well.

Mine failed yesterday and is only so so today. I don't like the way my clothes feel and look, even though the scales are only 129.

Off to Devon on Thursday for a couple of weeks. Have friends coming for a few days, which will mean too much food.

Ailuros 09-03-2013 11:41 AM

We’re back in line again, Kissa: I was 130 this morning.

MintQ8 09-03-2013 12:44 PM

Sometimes we can't buy milk .... There is none on the shelves! Now Khareef is pretty much over we should be good for another 9 months!

Mimosa23 09-04-2013 01:37 AM

How about camel milk, Vicky? I bought some camel milk chocolate when I was in Dubai 3 years ago, and I really liked it! Not sure about milk though... I wonder if it's similar to sheep or goat milk...

Well, DD for me today, I'm fasting till this evening and then will have my 500 calories. Probably a huge salad with a little fat and protein. Not sure of the exact details yet!

Sleeping well again, thankfully! I'm feeling fit and fabulous, LOL!

We're having a bit of an Indian Summer here, it's going to be over 30 degrees from Friday! I've planned another BBQ party, it may be the last one of the year! We'll see how many people we can get in the garden on Saturday, LOL!

The next two months look extremely busy: Two weekends this month I'll be in Holland, then we're off in October for a week near the beach in Holland, then off to London for a weekend, then off to UK again almost straight after for a few days for work, then at the end of October another one day trip to London for a book launch/ anniversary lunch for a society I am a member of, and then BF's B'day as well. Busy, busy, busy!

At the moment BF is away for work, so I'm now realising how much he actually does in and around the house! He really is a keeper, LOL!

Kissa 09-04-2013 08:22 AM

We have the gorgeous weather too Mimosa. Such a joy, I have so enjoyed this summer.

We should try to snatch a coffee in London Mimosa, it is a loooong time since we met last.

Mimosa23 09-04-2013 09:05 AM

Yes! we should, Cindy!!! I'll let you know when I'm there and not having to take part in some social or work events! It may just work at the end of October.... I'll have to see how it all ends up with flights, hotels, and times... It may be that most of my time in the UK will be spent in Hertfordshire.... (head office location)

I'm going to try sort something out, it has been way too long!!! xxx

lola5k 09-04-2013 11:41 AM

Hey hey I.m here.sorry for absence but work has got in the way DOH!!....Thank you Ailuros for autumn thread...good idea but then depressing when the winter one comes lol.

Yeah glad you all doing OK on DD's....not had time to read everything it was a much longer thread than I anticipated lol.

Planned on doing some sunbathing today but work got in the way again!!

Ailrus great news on 130lbs WAY...and Blotto in the zone again. My plan is usually Dukan pancake for breakfast then low carb/paleo for the rest of the day. But not yet able to give up milk in my tea or coffee.

DS was round the other day and hasn't seen me for a couple of weeks and said "Mum you look good you have lost weight " Woop woop...scales don't say so but think body shape has definitely changed ...for the better lol.

Hi Mimosa hope that you back continues on the mend and yeah I love it when DH away....was supposed to go off to China last week and I had a lovely week planned solo then it got cancelled on the morning he was leaving...arghhh What a lot of lovely things you have lined up for the next few months...very envious. Hi Jan, Kissa, Blotto, Vicky...and anyone else reading!

Anyways lots of reading to do so speak laters alligators

Ailuros 09-05-2013 01:23 AM

That schedule sounds exhausting, Mimosa!

It’s always encouraging to know the improvement is showing, Lola!

I was disappointed that this morning’s weight was higher than after the previous down day, but it’s a pound down from 6 days ago, so I’m just being greedy, wanting the numbers to go down every single time!

Mimosa23 09-05-2013 02:39 AM

Hi Lola, nice to see you here! I know all about being busy at work at the moment! Glad others are seeing results of your hard work! Congratulations!

Ailuros, well done on the downward trend! I know we always want to see the scale moving down... I have the same. I now only weigh once a week, it was becoming frustrating!

Jan, have a lovely time with your visiting mother!

Cindy: I've also really enjoyed the summer, we have had such a great one so far!!!! It makes the impending darker seasons better to bear at least!

Vicky: Did you get your quotes accepted? Hope all is well for you!

Blotto: How is life on Paleo? Are you consuming dairy or none at all?

Everyone else: how are you? Hope you found us here and do check in, we are missing you all!

Well, today is an UD, so here's the menu:

B: BPC
L: A Dean&David salad.... Can't decide yet, will know when I order what I fancy, LOL
D: steamed salmon with homemade herb/lemon butter and some butter/garlic sauteed spinach

Have a good day everyone!

Ailuros 09-05-2013 02:44 AM

Apart from lacking the self-control to stick to once a week, I do prefer to have the extra information from daily numbers. I don’t really get that bothered by daily wibbles, but I’ve had a stretch where it’s been down every time, so I was a bit sad to see it end!

blotto76 09-05-2013 03:03 AM

Haha, lots of milk talk indeed! i can't drink any of it on Paleo, no dairy allowed. On Day 5 now and so far so good!

Jan, how lovely to have your mum visit. How long is she staying?

Kissa, you will get back to your happy weight in no time. Enjoy Devon.

Mim, sounds like you have a busy few months ahead. Thankfully I have a quiet September, which will hopefully be good for paleo.

Ailuros, woo hoo to 130!

Lola, another big woo hoo to DS complimenting you on the weight loss!

Hi everyone else, have a great weekend - I'm planning on just resting and I'm off to the spa on Saturday - heaven.

x

Ailuros 09-05-2013 03:05 AM

Thanks, Blotto, but it’s not quite a solid 130 yet. Wibbling from 130 - 132.

Have a lovely time at the Spa!
