UK/Expats August

Hi all, started a new thread!

MintQ8 08-01-2013 11:40 PM

And went to post the link and July's thread is closed!

Ailuros 08-02-2013 01:07 AM

I saw the old thread was closed — and wasn’t sure if there was a new one already that I just couldn’t find. I wonder if we could negotiate a day’s grace on thread locking to give us chance to start and link to the new one?

I weighed 9st 7.6 this morning. I’m impatient to get below 9 1/2 again. But we’re just about to head out to stay in a hotel for the weekend for a family wedding, so I don’t think there’ll be a drop immediately!

My goal is to get back to 8 - 8.5 stones. I stayed there for five years after I first lost the weight, so it should be doable.

Mimosa23 08-02-2013 05:33 AM

Marking my spot!

I am away this weekend, will pop in Monday to post more!

Have a good one,

xxx Mims.

Kissa 08-02-2013 09:41 AM

We need to drop the month thing again, Juno would be pleased.

Down in glorious Devon for a week. Zumba this morning on a DD, only coffee and tea so far, and a bite of DHs cake, lol.

MintQ8 08-02-2013 02:16 PM

Lol! Anyway 2nd lowest weight today, still 4lbs heavier than my lowest! Just glad to not be 10lbs away!

blotto76 08-04-2013 01:10 AM

I'm off to Kerala tomorrow, so I'll be missing for a while. Back in a week and then it's time to get serious about losing some weight at last!

Have a good week all!

x

Kissa 08-04-2013 04:18 AM

Enjoy X

Kissa 08-05-2013 06:15 AM

Thank you Dottie for posting the link. :)

MintQ8 08-05-2013 06:37 AM

Yay - thank you Dottie!

I am coming to you from my new computer (not a Mac, Mum!) - not sure about Windows 8 - but I will persevere. It's my birthday present (tomorrow) - thank you lovely DH!!

Makes me think about JFM ...

Hope everyone is well!

Kissa 08-05-2013 07:10 AM

Yes, she shares a birthday with you doesn't she?

I will be skype calling you! Or we can try iPad faces!

MintQ8 08-05-2013 08:57 AM

Both is good!!! probably Skype -as if I don't have my iPad open - we can't face time!

Blondie Baby 08-05-2013 12:02 PM

Eid in 2 more days so I will be off for awhile enjoying some down time!

Mint - :jumpjoy: on your almost lowest weight! And on your birthday present!

Blotto - Enjoy Kerala

Kissa - Enjoy Devon

Kissa 08-05-2013 04:25 PM

Hope you have a great bid Maryam. Enjoy your time off with the family.

MintQ8 08-05-2013 10:11 PM

Maryam -is it bad that I'm hoping that Eid doesn't officially start until Friday? They've announced very strange holidays here!

If Eid is announced Wed pm (ie the Moon is sighted) then we have Wed, Thurs, Fri, Sat off - back to work on Sunday.
If Eid is announced Thurs pm then we have Wed, Thurs, Fri, Sat, Sun & Mon off -and head back to work on Tuesday.

Total madness!!!
The second version will also mean that DH can join me on my trip to Dubai!

Whatever happens - Eid Mubarak to you and your family Maryam!

Ailuros 08-06-2013 01:32 AM

I’m up half a pound this week — probably something to do with eating and drinking all weekend. My weight loss app claims I’ll reach my goal in Oct 2017, but I think it’s being unduly pessimistic.

MintQ8 08-06-2013 03:31 AM

LOL Ailuros!! That's almost as funny as mine telling me I eat too little and will lose 20lbs in 5 weeks!

Ailuros 08-06-2013 03:34 AM

I want your app!

Kissa 08-06-2013 04:41 AM

Lol, I am always being warned that I eat too little, but that is because I seldom enter my UD food, cos I am too embarrassed.

Happy Birthday Vicky, Have a lovely day xxx

Gorgeous sunny day here, makes me happy.

Ailuros 08-06-2013 04:53 AM

Oh, I lost track of the days!

Happy Birthday, Vicky!

(My app doesn’t track food, just weight.)

MintQ8 08-06-2013 11:12 AM

Thanks for the birthday wishes - been a lovely day (UD) - got a new computer and we're off to Dubai for a few days on Saturday!

Mimosa23 08-07-2013 12:48 AM

Mint: Happy belated birthday! I'm sorry I wasn't with it and only popped back in now! Hope you had a fab time!

Well, weekend was hectic but nice, and so far the week has started in the same way. Lots to do at work!

I discovered courgette spaghetti, and wow, it's great! I got myself one of these special peelers that can peel really thin julienne slices.... I fried the courgette after draining in a little butter and had homemade pesto and some smoked salmon with it... It was so good! Scales did not agree and I had a 2lb gain, but I'm hoping it's gone after my DD today.

Hope everyone has a good day!

Kissa 08-08-2013 09:58 AM

Hi Mimosa, I will be in Germany for 10 days, from Sunday. Mostly in Berlin but 3 nights in Dresden too. We are meeting up with friends (he is German) from Oz for the 1st few days.

How am I going to eat sensibly? At least for some of the time? I have only been to Germany a couple of times and all I remember is huge portions of everything. Are there any meals you can suggest? Any advice would be good.

Mimosa23 08-08-2013 11:21 PM

Hi Cindy,

How nice you are going to Germany! I really hope you'll have a fab time! I'm still enjoying living here!
I think food wise it depends where you eat. Definitely in Berlin there will be something for everybody. Generally, sausages are fine, they are mostly meat here in Germany, they tend to skip the nasty fillers. Again, depending where you eat portions will be fairly large. A German does not think he ate well when the portions are regular size, LOL! (I can attest to that, my BF is the same!) At the moment its Pfifferlinge season, so you'll probably find lots of dishes made with this lovely mushroom, definitely worth eating!

Doing LC in Germany is a disaster. Life revolves around bread. And they have such lovely bread too!!!!

Are you staying in a hotel? If yes, breakfast is usually a buffet with different kinds of breads and rolls, meats and cheeses and usually a selection of yoghurt, muesli, fruit and preserves. Stay away from the tea if you don't make it yourself! Generally coffee is nice and strong, just the way I like it!

Most restaurants have nice salads and good starters, and usually are not surprised if you order two starters instead of a starter and a main. If you don't want to gain horrible amounts of weight, stay away from the beer, LOL!

Germans are more and more health aware and I am seeing more healthy/lighter offerings in restaurants.

I just saw that in Berlin on the Kranzler Eck (no idea where that is, sorry) there's a Dean & David, which is a kind of healthy fast food type salad bar. You can get the most delicious salads, curries, wraps, soups and such for not much money and they don't make you gain weight at the sight of the food. We have one in the city where I work, and I go regularly to get myself a salad. Everything is made to order, and can be customised. So far, I've not had anything from them that I didn't like! You can even download the food information and menu, and they list all the carbs, proteins, fats and calories for each food. (can you tell I really love this place?)

Any questions, I'm happy to answer them!

xxx Mim

Kissa 08-09-2013 04:09 AM

WOw, thank you for all that. I love the sound of D & D, will certainly try to get there. And your idea of 2 starters is brilliant. I used to do that a lot but some countries don't like it. I love mushrooms so look forward to trying the Pfifferlinge.

Had a great DD yesterday after a week of just eating normally, and this morning I was a happy 126, so all is well.

Ailuros 08-09-2013 05:08 AM

Have fun in Germany, Kissa. I often have two starters if it’s a reasonably casual place — but I haven’t tried it in lots of different countries!

I was 133 this morning: 9½ stone. Next goal is to get below 9! We have friends staying for a week from next weekend, so I don’t think there’ll be a lot of progress this month.

Kissa 08-09-2013 06:59 AM

Just do your best. I was surprised by the nice number on the scales today.

How tall are you Ailuros, if I may ask?

Ailuros 08-09-2013 07:03 AM

5' 2"

Kissa 08-09-2013 07:05 AM

Just a bit smaller than me, and somewhat younger, so You will look great under 9 stone. I can only go a couple of pounds below that before I start to look 'older'.

Ailuros 08-09-2013 07:14 AM

This is me at the wedding last weekend. I can go down some more without looking emaciated :).
