I’ll see how it goes. I was happiest between 8 and 8˝ before, but that was 10 years ago, so a bit higher might work better this time.

Yes, things change when we get a little older, but you may be fine in that range.

And I never gave a thought to what I was eating in those days! Oh well. We can get back somewhere near the weight, even if we’ll never have those 20 year old bodies and metabolisms again!

I finally got round to watching the Horizon programme on Intermittent Fasting, ”Eat, Fast & Live Longer.” Very interesting! The presenter ended up picking a 5:2 regimen, but looked at overall calorie restriction (CRON), fasting for 3 days every couple of months, and an alternate day system very much like JUDDD. It seemed there were benefits from all of them, and his final choice was really on the basis of what he found easiest to live with.

I found the video on Vimeo.

Happy belated birthday Mint! Funny to think you are just up the road right now - shame you're not here at a weekend.

Ailuros, it's lovely to see what you look like at long last! Well done on the new lows.

kissa, your trip to Germany sounds lovely.

Mim, I keep meaning to try the courgette spaghetti, but I'm always too lazy to bother.

Blondie, belated Eid Mubarak! Hope you enjoyed the celebrations.

Hi Lola, Shy, Juno, Jan etc - hope you are all well.

I had a wonderful time in Kerala - lots of rain but it didn't matter, it was just so nice to escape the heat and chill out. I had a couple of massages, went on a trip to the backwaters and ate LOTS of fabulous indian food. My fat trousers are super tight today so it's definitely time to get back on the wagon!!

Glad that you had a good time Blotto. Your fat trousers made me laugh.

Your new avatar photo looks good Kissa.

Ailuros and Mint well done on dropping weight.

Blondie hope that you had a good Eid.

Had a fairly good week with DD home. Yesterday wasn't good as we went out for meal and alcohol arghh...it was the anniversary of my Mum & Dad's death so we were celebrating for them ahemmm!!

So tomorrow is it sticking with Dukan or back to JUDDD decisions decisions.

Blotto, Kerala sounds lovely! Which wagon are you taking?

Lola, good luck picking a plan . I’m not very well up on Dukan, but I think for most people, the main thing is to pick the one you can live with.

Aww, hugs for your M&D Lola, I'm sure they appreciated the raised glasses!

Ailuros, that's my trouble - I can't decide which wagon, and keep jumping from one to the other, which of course results in me falling off all the time! I keep hoping I will wake up one morning and it will all just fall into place. *sigh*.

Thanks everyone. Eid was nice, though quiet. Kids were in Dubai with their Dad. DD3 got me Jillian Michaels book "Unlimited". I have just started reading it. So far, so good. DD2 got me a lovely soap and scent (Mango) set from Bath and Body Works.

Back to work yesterday and it has been crazy! Just before Eid I got a new position - I am suppose to be getting a new grade to go with it. I am coordinating for the base management team. The base I am at employees nearly 200 staff working on fixed and rotary wing aircraft, engines and avionics plus the paint hangar. So its a pretty big responsibility. But very uplifting to know that they created this position specifically for me because the manager thinks that I can "get stuff done". Yesterday they brought an assistant for me so today we ran around all day trying to get her computer access and base pass squared away. In addition to getting our new office set up and ready to move in to!

Blotto - your pics of Kerala look lovely!!!!

Ailuros - You look fab. I don't think a few more pounds would make you old, though!

Lola - I had to stop doing JUDD. Just did not have the energy to to workout on DDs. Right now I am just doing straight up Low Carb!!

Where is Juno????

Congratulations on the new job, Maryam!

After eating less on alternate days for a month, I did some reading about intermittent fasting/calorie restriction, and decided that maybe it wouldn’t be a bad idea to have an actual plan to follow. I thought the JUDDD numbers might not be so bad after a month of doing something not that different from it, but it was more restrictive (1537/307), and would need lots of weighing and counting to make sure I was meeting the numbers. Since I’ve been losing a pound a week doing something that feels relaxed and sustainable, I think I’ll stick with that and not worry about following someone else’s numbers. I can start counting if it stops working.

on the new job Blondie...great.

Yep I think I find JUDDD quite difficult on the days that I am working out...so have decided to kinda just stay with low carb healthy eating for time being.

Ailuros 1lb a week is working so stick with that. Only worry about the numbers if you are not losing.

Hi to everyone else.

Hi everyone,
I am getting a late start on the August thread.
Hope you all enjoyed lovely visits to Dubai, India, Germany, etc. Globetrotters all!
Ailuros, I agree it's nice to be able to picture you now. Lovely pic at the wedding.
Blondie, congrats on the promotion!
Lola, hugs on the anniversary of your parents' deaths
Mimosa - I will investigate the courgette spaghetti....sounds good!
I am up a couple of pounds....my own fault as I don't seem able to stick with a plan! Must make that a priority!
Enjoy the rest of summer (if it is summer where you are!). I have a trip to the UK in October, so hope the nice weather lasts into the autumn
Hope everyone's week is going well.

Hi All!

Just one personal today:

Maryam, congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!

For the rest, hope everybody is well.

I haven't been well, hence my absence here. Had to take bed rest because I have some type of infected nerve in my back that is causing me incredible back pain. Back at work today, but not sure if I can manage a whole day.... We'll see. Have an appointment with a back specialist for remedial training but that's not for another two weeks. It's going to be quite a long journey, I believe! Doctor told me off for leaving it so long before coming to him. Well, I learned my lesson!

Anyway, diet is fine, I'm not losing anything, I think it's also because I'm doing less and eating more at the moment. I've only fasted once this week, and that's all I'll be doing too. Next week I've got three fasts planned, so back to normal. I can't fast when I'm taking my painkillers, it causes no end of intestinal troubles, LOL!

Wishing everyone a good day!

Here's the menu:

B: full fat quark with some creme fraiche, EVCO and almond butter
L: salad with tuna and some feta
D: a pork roast with lovely fresh pfifferlinge (chanterelles) fried in butter, garlic and parsley on the side. Maybe some leftover cauliflower mash too...
xxx

Sorry about your back, Mimosa! I hope it eases soon.

Would any of the alternative fasting patterns help you to keep on top of the painkillers? 8/16 or 24 hours, say from lunch to lunch?

Also, I’ve always found that I retain more fluid when I have any kind of inflammation. I never see any weight loss while I’m ill, but sometimes there’s a drop as I heal.

Hope you feel better soon anyway. Back pain is horrible!

I started my alternate-day-something-or-other a month ago and am down 6 lb. As long as I don’t get caught up in ”less is better” thoughts, it’s pretty easy to do. The month included a family wedding weekend away and a few days when I ate out every night because a friend was staying in the area.

Hi Ailuros! Thanks for the well wishes.

I need to take a tablet three times a day, so I need to eat something three times a day. The problem is that I can't just eat a small bite and it will be ok... Tried that with 'special' results, LOL!

I have found though that by eating more yoghurt and such and taking my extra strength probiotic twice a day that it's not too bad. I only have to take the pills for a couple more days to help reduce the inflammation, and then I should be ok, thankfully!

Good point regarding fluid retention. My fingers and feet are definitely a bit more squishy than normal!

ETA: Well done on your weightloss, Ailuros!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you. At 5' 2" (157 cm) 6 lb in a month is quite a rapid change.

This is my graph:

There are obvious lumps where I wasn’t limiting anything much, but it’s interesting that it seemed to take a couple of weeks before the up/down zigzag started.

Morning all!

It's promising to be a lovely day here. Sun is shining!

Back is ok today, a little stiff, but no too painful. And: no painkillers!!!!!

My sweet assistant has just resigned, she's going to start uni in the autumn. I'm very sad, we had a lovely working relationship, and it was nice to at least have one of the two assistants that I have be a pleasure to work with! I'm now again looking for someone, and hopefully will find another gem! I need to, because the other one is a respectless sourpuss who acts waaaay to entitled!

Anyway, I'm off to Holland again to see my parents on the weekend. Looking forward to it. Hopefully their pool will be nice and warm, I think a little swimming will do my back some good!

Doing a medium day today, stomach is still not great from the painkillers, so I'm easing back into fasting mode. Good news is though that I've not gained! At least LC is keeping that in check.

My menu:

B: nothing
L: a light salad with avocado and feta
D: don't know. Dad is probably cooking, so it will involve either poultry or fish and some vegetable. Looking forward to it!

Wishing you all a good weekend, see you back here on Monday!

xxx Mims.

Have a lovely time Mimosa...hope that the pool helps...and good luck with new assistant. Why are some people so difficult to work with and think that they are "gods gift" to business...Arghhh

I.m working from home today and been head down since 8am...taking a quick coffee break. Decided to fast from last night until dinner tonight. Tum was very bloated yesterday and scales were up...hmmm

Have a good weekend everyone.

We have visitors arriving tomorrow for a week. It’s just occurred to me that if I put them all on alternate day fasting there’d be a lot less cooking to do .
