kritter - I am so sorry about Tootsie. I agree she needs a family with lots of time and energy to play with her. Wonder why they think Jersey needs another dog in the home. We have one dog in the house and she is happy. We think. She acts happy. Maybe she is faking being happy. Hope you find a solution that works best for you.

Dr. Mercola's blog today was about sprouting broccoli seeds for sprouts. Seems they are great (as is the actual broccoli we eat which I am not a real fan of) kills cancer cells. I love sprouts of any kind but he sprouts his in dirt. I am thinking my new mini patio green house for growing seedlings would work perfectly for this. I am going to buy some seeds and experiment. Or search my seed drawer to see if I have any.

Adi So sorry to hear about your squash! Big fat green worms are attacking my garden

Had to buy a tomato this weekend

Krit- I feel ya. Having a time with Reese as well. Her separation anxiety is still bad, follows me everywhere but now getting spunky. Tries to get Molly to play by nipping at her and barking. Molly is like, "what in the world?" She is now scared of Reese.

I think I cant eat cabbage anymore. Make me sick

DD today. I was happy eating the baked potato and the sweet potato but worry about protein. Ate an 80 calorie greek yogurt for breakfast

Having bad day. A Murphy Law day.

lil miss, sorry to hear about your puppy problems. I almost had a breakdown this morning. Tootsie would not stop moving. And if she did finally lay down, all I had to do was pick up the remote control and she'd jump off the couch and walk around panting. She wants constant attention and I'm not giving in. When I go into the kitchen to do something, Jersey and Tootsie come in but Jersey just stands there and then finally lays down. Tootsie walks around and around the island.

I finally put her down in the family room so Jersey and I could get some peace and I could take a shower.

About the cabbage, do you cook it really well? I can eat cabbage and broccoli but it has to be really tender. OH have you tried taking digestive enzymes? Maybe you need an extra boost to help digest these kinds of foods.

Adi, so sorry about the squash. I wonder if some type of greenhouse would work. Is that not doable?

I was thinking of taking Tootsie to doggie daycare but I just got back from Petsmart and walked past their "daycare" area. There as a great dane standing in the back looking MISERABLE. Other dogs were playing/fighting and other dogs running around. There was no comfie place for this dog to lay. I felt so bad for him.

kritter- I have a shade cloth house but the grasshoppers can still get in. I hate grasshoppers. They have ruined my garden for too many years. I am waging war on them now. Sorry about Tootsie. Maybe she just needs more adjustment time.

LOL Adi, how are you battling them? Is there an insecticide you can use that won't affect the vegetables?

When DH came home she barked and growled at him. He doesn't seem bothered by it but I am. I don't want a dog that growls at people. I don't want to worry about anyone entering the house. And I don't have the time and energy to train this type of thing out of them. I want to train them to sit, come and stay!

But the funny thing is when he is home, she's calm because she won't get off the couch when he's in the room.

Wanted to add that one good thing about the dog situation is that I'm so stressed I can't eat! And now I'm stressing because if I keep her, there's no way my nephew will be able to handle her when we go on vacation. I'd have to take her to a kennel. And then she'd probably revert to her original state. Oye!

Dak - I used Sevin dust on the baby plants that are left and I am trying to figure out how to make a nylon net cover for them until the grasshoppers die completely out. I thought the grasshoppers were gone until I planted the squash.

lil miss, have you tried any meds for Reese? I'm giving Jersey Melatonin to try to help her sleep through the night. Apparently it helps older dogs who often have disrupted sleep patterns. But it's also supposed to help dogs with anxiety.

The rescue found another foster home for Tootsie but they can't take her until the 23rd. The trainer/behavior specialist came Thursday night. She had seen Tootsie back in June and she said she was surprised that she really hadn't made that much progress. She cowered behind me the entire time the trainer was here. She thinks she needs more, or different meds because whatever she's getting isn't enough because she still can't relax. Her respiration was high and she was a wreck.

I'm hosting book club tomorrow. I'm making cheese fondue and mushroom croquettes. Paris is only 4 weeks away! I have to start getting out my fall clothes to see what I have.

Wow, what a story on those dogs, I know that taking on a rescue can be tough, but Tootsie sounds like she should be someone's only dog.

My neck has really been bothering me, I'm in therapy mode these days, had an acupuncture treatment and a couple of massages, yesterday was the first day in a long while where I didn't have that undercurrent of pain.... so, weekly massage for me for a while.

Those grasshoppers sound awful, Adi, I thought their season was over? I've read of people sneaking up on them with clippers and chopping them in two, but that sounds pretty labor intensive.

Hi All!

I hadnt been getting notifications that you all were talking!

I am successfully do DD, UD routine. Its funny, after a DD I am NOT hungry the next morning. After an UD, I am starving! LOL

Reese is doing fine. Some submissive peeing but otherwise good. Tootsie sounds very high maintenance...

Sorry about your neck Dak! Ugh! I have so much tension in my shoulders these days... I need a massage but money is tight right now.

I am SO excited. I am applying to be a Guardian Ad Litem! I have an interview on Thursday.

Adi- I have these fat beetle things eating my plants. I loath them!

Lil Miss, what a great idea, you would be perfect. I'll be thinking of you on Thursday!!!

I can't really afford massage right now either, but I can't afford to keep taking time off either, so it's a medical necessity for me right now. We're in a trade organization, so some of the sessions were on trade, but unfortunately, they really weren't very good. Got to pay for quality.

Dak- I so agree that quality doesn't usually come free or cheap. Hope the massages help though.
Kritter - So sorry about Tootsie. Wish she were near me. Sami has bonded to son who is home every weekend now. He has been gone for 5 years and now I am falling over him and his dirty clothes weekly. I think I am on the last load. LOL
Lilmiss - Beetles or grasshoppers. Don't want either. Just want some plants to produce some food. Shouldn't be too much to ask.

I am beginning to think the grasshoppers are year round. Boo. The neighbors guineas are working overtime trying to eat them all. Good guineas.

adi, can you get some guineas to help eat the grasshoppers?

Dak, I'm glad you're getting some relief for your neck. When you get the massages, do they target your neck or do you get a regular overall swedish massage?

I haven't had a massage in a while and am due.

lil miss, good luck with your Guardian application! That is such a wonderful thing to do.

I'm beat from hosting book club! I'm so glad I took off tomorrow. The mushroom leek croquettes were a huge success.

kritter - I think the dozen that belong to my neighbor but spend all of their time all over my yard and garden is enough. They are so loud. I go out to feed and they start their noise making at me and I live here. I can poison them but I was trying to stay away from that but next year I may just go that route when they first start up. My chickens free range in the calf pasture. I haven't been out there in awhile. Need to see what kind of a job they are doing with the grasshoppers but they will destroy a garden scratching around so I can't win either way.

I was off today but really busy shopping and cleaning up from book club. Finally sitting down to a cup of coffee and a brainless Nora Roberts book

Did not work today so I did morning chores and had extra milk so I started a gallon of milk cooking to make cajeta. It is just now ready to put in the jars and refrigerate. Twelve hours of cooking and it is so yummy and I had a dab for a snack. Tomorrow is a DD so I will have to control myself until Thursday. This may be my best batch EVER. Cooked two vanilla beans in it all day too. DH thought I was making soap. LOL.

I also took the hoe and chopped the little weeds that were starting to grow in the garden since I watered it. I have 7 pitiful little squash plants left with at least one partial leaf. I powdered them again and hope they survive. Need to mulch them some more tomorrow. Poor little things.

Cajeta! That sounds so decadent, so good. Can I come over? LOL

I've been trellising my tomatoes with twine, which failed. Not looking forward to trying to resupport my tomatoes. It's polyproplylene twine too, wasn't even going to go organic with that...

Cold this morning! Fall is almost here.

Tomorrow is the first day of fall, yay! Guess I'm ready for summer to end.

I'm trying my luck cooking a tri tip today on the grill. Also looking at what to do with all the quinces we have, maybe membrillo? They say to pair it with cheese, though, and I don't eat much cheese anymore. Might be nice to bring to a potluck though.

Hey Everyone! How are you?

I have NOT been a good JUDDD girl the last few days. Had too many social events and I caved. Determined to be better as I am feeling pretty chubby and blah.

Hope everyone is doing well!

Hi all.
lilmiss - just get back to the rotations and keep on keeping on.
I went to a fair last weekend and I have another one this weekend. I gained 7 pounds overnight. My legs are so swollen I can't squat down. Ouch. Hopefully I can get rid of the water in another day. It is just wonderful being a sponge.

Dak - I have extra milk after the bottle babies finish their milk so I am watering my squash plants with it. Milk is supposed to be a good fertilizer. I have 9 squash plants that have survived and the rain last week has really made them start growing. Or maybe it is the milk or the mulch from the goat barn. I have 3 zucchini, 3 spaghetti squash and 3 pink banana squash plants. Let's hope we don't have an early winter and I lose them to a freeze.
I leave for the State Fair on THURSDAY. I am packing the trailer and finished clipping my last goats today. I am having to substitute entries since two of mine won their dry leg last weekend at another fair so they are staying home.

Hello,

Up and down with my neck. I have been feeling really good, then yesterday I did something (stretching? I have no idea) and felt absolutely awful this morning. And so tired! I actually called DH & asked him to look at the advil bottle on the shelf, I was thinking I took the PM instead of the regular. A little worried, I'm driving down to LA this weekend, not sure how a 5 hour drive is going to go. Just going to have to pace myself, I guess. I need to see my family, I haven't been down to visit for long while and it's difficult doing the estate stuff over the phone. Can you believe, it's been 2 years October since my dad died.

Adi, I've heard about watering with milk, what a wonderful thing to be able to put into your soil! I bet you'll get some good microbes going. Good luck with the fair, seems late though, I usually associate summer with state fairs.

Dak - I guess it is so hot here that October is known for the State Fair. The goats are there first thing. We open the fair and Army is playing in the Cotton Bowl. Not sure if son will come up for the game or not. He talks to use very little. He is home every weekend but rarely speaks. I think Ranger School ruined him. Maybe in time he will open up a bit. He has a temporary place to stay but ALL of his stuff is still piled all over my house and the piles are getting bigger. I am ready to buy another storage building and load it up.
I think my squash plants have doubled in size since I started feeding them milk twice a day. Wonder if they will revolt if I ever have to wean them off milk?

This will be my third fair this month. I am about faired out. Will have to get serious about my eating when I get back. I gained a couple of pounds that aren't going anywhere so it isn't water. Dropped almost 5 pounds of water weight since yesterday though. tHANK GOODNESS. I ate yogurt again so I am going to drop that item from my diet unless I make my own. there MUST BE SOME ADDITIVE IN THE LOWFAT VARIETY THAT MAKES ME PUFF UP. oops caps lock.

Hi lil miss! Yikes your schedule sounds crazy, but fun. What class are you taking for fun? My girlfriend and I were going to take an art class but it was cancelled because of low enrollment. I'm kind of glad because we're going to try to start a stitch-n-****** club and I want to spend a good amount of time knitting and I also want to get back to doing some kind of exercise.

Yep, Tootsie went to her new foster home on Monday. I read the blog entries from her new foster mom and it sounds like she's doing fantastic. They posted a video of her playing fetch in the yard and said that she's having a great time playing with the other 2 labs. The foster mom thinks she's much younger than 6 because she's got so much energy and she is extremely athletic. She leaps up onto their picnic table like it's nothing.

Yes, I did read Gone Girl. We read it last year for book club. Are you reading it now?

I'm going to try a soup diet for this week. I bought Italian Wedding soup and Stracciatella soup and some meatballs from an italian place near us. I had some of the wedding soup for lunch. It is really filling.

Home from the State Fair. Spook won Grand Champion Senior Saanen so all is good. Except I subbed her in as a fill in so we would have 10 and the show would be official. I never thought she had a chance to win.
AND WE GOT RAIN. I am so excited. It rained last week and again this weekend while I was gone. YEA!!! Lots of mud but that is fine with me.
lilmiss - Hope your garden grows. Can you find cilantro seeds? I don't like it myself so I have never looked for seeds.
kritter - glad to hear Tootsie is doing well in her foster home.
Dak - Hope your neck is better and it is strange how fast time flies.

It is raining again. My squash is looking good so I planted a four foot row of Collad Greens yesterday. Might be brave and plant a four foot row of mustard greens tomorrow. Something ate my Swiss Chard to the ground overnight though. I can't win.

Forgot to take my purse with me this morning and I have to mail some things for work and I have no money so I am going home and then going to the PO in town and mail my stuff. I get reimbursed later but I can't believe I got here with no purse.
DS got home last night too. He has looked at two houses on the lake he kind of likes so I have to go with him Sunday to look at them. Since I am making the down pament I guess he wants to get my input. They are on two different lakes and based on pictures I already have my favorite and it is the cheaper one by $10,000. It has granite countertops, SS appliances and an inground pool and the other one does not. Both are two story with an extra bed and bath he can rent to another officer which will help make his payment. he is pre approved for either house so I hope he picks one. There is a super buy on a foreclosed fixer upper but he isn't the fixer upper type. So I think it will be better if he gets a perfect move in ready place.
Mypart time records clerk/secretary got a fulltime job at one of our schools so I am now the records clerk/secretary but I was getting bored with not enough to do so all is well. Plus it will save us a little on salaries.

Dogs are good, Book Fair ramping up, tonight I start classes for Guardian Ad Litem. Scared and excited, sorry to miss family time though.
