Vicki, we had a great day at the lake and I enjoyed being with my brothers and sisters so much. I also enjoyed the visit with my baby sister on the drive up.

Tony, I agree with you totally about spreading around the family and making sure that everyone knows you are so happy they came to share the happy day with you. I have been to alot of those celebrations over the years where you did have the feeling that it would not have made a difference if I was there or not.

thanks, abs...that certainly reinforces what i was thinking...i think the more people who feel included and noticed, the more positive they feel about the event and the fact that they came...

Yes, exactly!

We might have another get together when my sister in law and brother come to town around the 23rd. I am making this time a goal to get some weight off. We took a picture of the 5 of us yesterday and I never like pictures of myself but this one really showed the weight gain of the past year. I need to get a grip on carbs and calories!

i feel the same way, abs...i am feeling FAT lately...it's funny how your perception of how fat you are changes over time, even when your weight doesn't...i was satisfied at this weight for a long time and now it feels totally unacceptable!...some of it may have been the experience of trying on suits and clothes this week...haha!

the pure fact is that as a young man, i weighed 40-50 lbs. less than i do now and that's a huge difference - an extra 20% of my current weight that i DON'T NEED...i have to get it off - i'm feeling a little desperate about it and that's probably a good thing...i will be setting aggressive goals after this wedding and weighing weekly again...it is time!

We went to a friends place last night for supper and I took a Key Lime Pie recipe from Healthy Indulgences and it was a hit. I have made low carb desserts before with minimal success. I also made black bean brownies from Meal Planning Maven.

Tonight, steak on the grill and Asian green beans.

Back from my visit with my family and have to start back to work tomorrow. Feeling bummed and rather blah.

I am with Abi and Tony...feeling rather fat today and anxious to get back on a strict regimen after coming back from vacation. I went grocery shopping and bought all the stuff to make my own protein shakes this week.

Dug out my atkins book last night and looked over the lists of acceptable foods. Going to try to keep things simple this week. Beef, chicken, tuna, mayo, a litte cheese and lettuce. Will try to get back into ketosis, put a damper on the appetite and get rid of water weight. Have tuna, lettuce, mayo and pork skins packed for lunch. Had coffee with cream early. Have measured out only 3 tbl of cream to have in my 4 cups of coffee for the day instead of just pouring it in until it is the color I like. I know each pork skin is about 10 calories on the average as they are all different sizes. Will try to keep track how many calories I am taking in and not just mindlessly eating half the bag.

Hope we hear from FF today. Atemis, hope your week goes well and not too tiring.

Have a great day Blitzers!

You have inspired me!! I am going to get back to the basics as well. I need a little kick in the pants as I have not been eating that well the last couple of week. I have been giving myself permission to eat whatever I want on my up days and that has been effecting my moods. Back to the Basics!

Well, the weekend did not go as well as I had hoped, but not too bad overall. The drive (5 hours one way) was OK going over and terrible coming back. The 3 yo DS does NOT travel well and therefore yesterday was full of screams, cries, and whining which is horrible in sunday afternoon interstate traffic. The stay while we were there was great, we got some swimming in, relaxed a lot and just enjoyed each other's company before I left my 15 yo there to spend the next two weeks with his cousin.

Today I am swamped at work and have just checked in for a moment to say Hello and I'll check back when I can.

Tony, the wedding sounds so exciting and it sounds like you have a great plan for entertaining, eating and generally making everyone feel welcome.

FF, where are you?

to everyone else!

Quick check in. I need to get caught up on posts.

I reached my desire to lose 2 pounds last week - I'm down 4.2. I made it through the weekend without going off plan, which is HUGE for me. So I'm very proud of myself.

Vicki, for my protein shakes, I found a powder with only 2 net carbs per scoop. I put in 1 cup of almond milk (this morning I used chocoloate unsweetened) which was 2 net carbs then 1 scoop of the powder. I also added a spoonful of unsweetened natural yogurt as a thickener (and to boost the good fats) and a spoon of natural no sugar added PB (also to boost the good fats and I'm a sucker for the PB and chocolate combo). All together, it came to around 6.5 net carbs and it was delish!!! I could drink that stuff all day long!

Congrats to Gibby for reaching your goal!

Tony, all the women in my family cook southern food like there is no tomorrow and I am proud to say I inherited that trait Is it any wonder I've battled my weight all my life!?

Trying to decide what to do for exercise tonight...

according to Luciano...

the computer shorted out. he fixed it and brought a power box, which, one hopes, will fix that problem. the next time this baby goes will be the last. i can use the one at the public library for free for 1/2 hour at a time. I am in the house for the heat wave. i refuse to go out for any reason until the heat wave breaks. Ciao for now. FF

FF, so glad that Luciano or Pavorotti as Tony calls him was able to get your computer going again. We were very worried about you! This heat is just awful. I am glad the plant is air conditioned (for the candles) but yesterday and probably today it won't feel that way for long.

Marilee, good going on the 4 pounds down!

Lori, when someone says I have inspired them that in turn inspires me to stay on the straight and narrow. I had my tuna for lunch yesterday and had some chicken, a little lettuce, one slice of tomato, two slices of bacon and some mayo for dinner last night.

Today is make your own sandwich day for free lunch. I will bring a couple of lettuce leaves to put my luncheon meat and cheese in.

Tony, what will you be wearing to the wedding? You mentioned buying a suit. What color? Refresh my memory, will the wedding still be on the beach in Maine?

Vicki, Tony's predictions are right on the money so it is going to be a very successful year for you and for all of us!

Have a great day all! It is going to be a long one for me. Had one of those sleepless nights. ugh

So funny that you say this. Almost every time I get aggravated at something the kids do, I end up just hugging them, or wanting to if they are not around, because I know one day I will miss the aggravation.

Artemis – I grew up in the south as well. I did great with my weight until I married my husband and felt compelled to cook him all the great southern dishes in my memory banks. We both immediately put on 30 pounds!

FF – Great to hear from you and glad you got your computer problem rectified!

Abi – Great menu yesterday. The BLT sounds wonderful. Inspirational even! I am going to have to make one of those soon. YUM! Yesterday I had my coffee w/HWC, taco soup, and LC toast for a down day of about 520c. I need to boot the LC toast also, but I have a ˝ a loaf to get rid of so that it doesn’t go bad. I know I should probably just toss it, but when you have a big family and watch every dollar you spend at the grocery that seems very wrong! So, I am allowing myself the LC bread until it is gone. Other than that, today I will have sausage and eggs with cheese for breakfast, naked chicken wings for lunch (probably with a little mild sauce), and probably a pork chop with fried cabbage for dinner!

Last night was more work for me. I think we finally got all of the wood out of the neighbor’s yard. Tonight we have to clean up the brush, and then start on the wood and brush left in our own yard. I also have to make beds in the camper because we are camping this weekend. So, happy note: DH is going to be home Thursday night!! YAY!! I would like to have all the work done so that he doesn’t feel like he has to come home and work. I would like for him to be able to enjoy the kids and not worry about things that need to be done.

So tonight and tomorrow night I will be working on readying and packing the camper as well as moving wood and brush. Last night it was a lot of fun with all the kids “trying” to help.

abs, i bought a dark blue suit at men's wearhouse...it's looking like a hot and humid day with severe thunderstorms, so i am hoping to get out of it after pictures and the father-daughter dance and into shorts and a polo shirt, but we'll see...

nice job on the menu...hope you get a good night's sleep tonight to make up for last night...

hey lori, sometimes i freeze bread rather than throwing it out...you can then thaw it or toast it a slice at a time and well, you get the idea! :-)

Tony, I used to do the same thing with bread. It never tasted as good plain but toasted, I couldn't tell the difference. I sure hope you can get out of that suit asap on Saturday! Also hope for no thunderstorms!

Lori, great that your DH is coming home thursday and what a sweet wife to try to have everything done so he does not have to worry about it. No wonder Tony wants to marry you! lol

Where in the south were you brought up?

Had some computer problems also today so am running short on time.

Have packed tuna, 1 cup of lettuce, some mayo, my coffee and have some pork skins for snacks.

Have a wonderful day Blitzers!

Congrats Gibby.

Tony, is the wedding this weekend?? Glad you found a suit.

Artemis, what brand of protein powder?

Abi, I love tuna. Glad your plan is working for you and keeping you on the straight and narrow.

Lori, when I got remarried a year and a half ago, my dh lost about 15 lbs and I claimed it.

ff, so glad you checked in. Darn computers anyways.

I am continuing to be mindful with my eating and waiting for the first sign of hunger to eat. I was waiting a while after hunger and my therapist was aghast that I was waiting too long. She told me as soon as I felt "empty" to eat. She also said I probably wasn't eating enough at a meal which led me to the snacking in between. Nothing is off limits right now. The difficulty is trying to decide what I AM hungry for. Yesterday for lunch I had 3 small baked potatoes topped with cottage cheese, salsa and jalepenos. YUMMY. I am also reading Intuitive Eating which is helping me to break the diet cycle.

Tony – You are so funny! I do freeze bread as well. I do not like to freeze a loaf after it has been opened.

Abi – You guys are so kind. I would think I’m just doing what any wife would want to do. I great up in West Tennessee.

Vicki – It is so great that you are getting in touch with your hunger and eating. Great information for all.

Well, yesterday I was called from work to go pick up my 3 yo DS. He has been having some major issues at daycare with aggression. I have been working with him and trying to determine what is going on with him, but we will have a few days of success and then another day of issues. He doesn’t have these issues at home and as I told the daycare director 5 months ago I was getting nothing but praise from all the teachers. So, what has changed at the daycare? Anyway, I took some time with him yesterday and talk to him quite a bit about how he doesn’t want to be hurt = he shouldn’t hurt other people. Tough love also had him clean up toys from the yard, garage and living areas because he refused to help the teacher and other children clean up at daycare.

In addition to all of this, of course, I cried all the way from work to daycare trying to come up with a plan with DH about how we were going to approach this issue.

On the up side, I got a lot of work done yesterday. Also, I was able to spend some quality time with my DS to try and explain to him that his behavior has to improve and how. In addition we just spent some time running, playing and cuddling. I think he needed that just as much as he needed guidance.

hey abs, another good menu today!...do you have a/c in your house?...how are you dealing with this heat wave?...

vicki, sounds like you are really making progress...so much of what we are trying to do is changing habits and until we can conquer bad habits, forcing deprivation is simply not gonna work...good for you...

lori, you are a very good mom...raising kids is not easy, but you are really plugged in and your kids are benefiting, even if it doesn't always seem that way...the parental curse is that we suffer when our kids struggle - or when we believe they might struggle - or almost every other minute of their lives when they are not bathing in the glow of success...that's our job...and you're good at it...

as hard as it is to parent, it is equally hard growing up, especially in today's world...kids go through phases where they have to find ways to test their abilities and coping mechanisms, etc. as they interface with this world, which can be quite overwhelming when you are so small...little kids are powerless to a large extent, except in the reactions they can evoke from adults...i would look for things that you think might be causing your son anxiety or a sense of powerlessness and try to find ways to allow him to exert positive behavior to control elements of his world...

the necessity of his dad being away for work may be one source of frustration for him...i imagine when dad is home, all the kids are competing for his time and attention and i'm sure he does the best he can to provide for their needs to be with him...being so young, your three-year-old may not be as adept at expressing his needs as his older siblings...

i worked a lot when my kids were small - i was lucky i never traveled and was home every night, but i did work a lot of hours and often went weeks without a day off...there were times i thought it was affecting the kids and i had to make adjustments...i'm not suggesting overreacting to what may be a short-term behavioral blip and changing your lives - just sharing my experience...raising kids is a bit of a roller coaster and often problems like this disappear as quickly as they manifested themselves...you have older kids so i doubt i am telling you anything you don't already know...hope you keep us posted as we all can learn from each other's experiences...

i didn't eat a thing today until 7:45 tonight...just wasn't hungry at all...then i had a few chicken wings and some tuna...picked up my suit and it fit, thank goodness...vicki, the wedding is this saturday...

see y'all tomorrow...

Tony, thank goodness we do have air conditioners. One in the window and two of those roll around ones. Just got our utility bill from when the kids were here with everything running full blast including all the hot water used. Phew! Looking at last years bills, August will be a super high bill too.

Lori, I am sure you told us but I can't remember what you said you did for work. You sure do have your hands full. What town in west Tennessee did you live? We lived in Huntsville, Alabama for many years and the last 10 years from 1997 to 2007 we lived in Gulf Shores, Alabama before returning to new england where we grew up. So sorry about the little one acting up in day care. Wish I had some words of wisdom for you. I also think it may be related to him missing his father and not being able to do anything about it. Do you and your DH skype at all? Maybe if he could see his Daddy every night and DH also encourages him to help with the picking up of the toys and not to be hitting the other kids he will try to be good that day and be able to report that night to his father.

Vicki, not mindlessly eating and only eating when hungry will be a wonderful result of your therapy. Then you have to pass on your words of wisdom.

FF, how is the computer working today?

Marilee and Artemis, how are your weeks going?

More tuna today for me. The office had some kind of luncheon yesterday and brought their leftover tuna wraps to the breakroom. I brought one home for lunch today, just threw out the wrap and put it in a container with some lettuce.

Wishing everyone a great Thursday!
