DH is home with a cold. My DN that lives with us brought it home to us. Hope I don't get it. I've been keeping close track on my weight and it seems to be goi g back down. So maybe it was just an adjustment period.

Sunny and hot.

We smoke our ribs and the toss them in the crock. Soooo tender.

I did a clean sweep of mean toxic people -including a couple family members-in my life about 4 years ago. We even moved out of town. My FB is closed except to invited friends. I feel much better. It was hard to do but necessary.

Karen did you stay away from the cookies? Crops in? We finally dried out enough.

Taco salad seems to be going around
I think got last of crop planted today. Now making hay. And supposed to rain tonight.........................
But better too much rain,........at least we have pasture and hay.

Even in Florida we're having a lot more rain that normal. Way ahead of the average for the month. We always need the rain because it is so dry here.

Scale bounced up a pound, but I'm hormonal too so who knows what it was from.

Stopped at a market on the way home, got homemade organic sausage and fresh picked salad fixings. Honestly the best tomatoes and sausages I've ever had.

Oh, and got my skinny boyfriend a loaf of organic fresh baked olive rosemary bread, but who cares about him! :P

So, my exam for my first course is July 17th! Starting my reading for the second course. an 800+ page text, called "Staying Healthy With Nutrition" by Elson M. Haas. This is the paragraph I'm reading...

"There is also some evidence that a diet too low in carbohydrates can make one of our hormones "insulin" less effective, therefore destabilizing our blood sugar levels."

Not saying it's right or wrong, but there'd better be some back up to this statement somewhere is this damn book! :P

Everything in moderation is what my parents always said. As we get closer to goal weight, we start eating a few more carbs.......then there is balance. That is my idea, anyway........

But we over-ate to get to our current weights, and I am sure too many carbs affects our insulin............................

Definitely! It's bad, but I can already tell the person who wrote this text is not a vegetarian like the last course LOL. He dances all around the "low carb" way of eating, never says it's "good" but makes comments that make me laugh. I read 30 pages on water, and 10 on carbs last night... protein and fats tonight, woo! :P

Just wanna say -- I love this thread!

A little more rain today. Usually. but not the past couple of years, we would get rain showers every afternoon in the summer.

Avy -- good luck on your exam.

CJ - get better soon. I hope you can get it licked in a day or two.

Deb - just keep one foot in the wagon still and get ready to jump totally back on on Sunday. It is hard when you feel you're off the track to not totally jump off. Stay strong.

Karen - at first I thought you posted that you had gas last night but it says GS. What is GS?

Pat - would love your recipe for the Mex stew too!

My sister turned me on to Makoto Vegetable Sauce. You like the white sauce at Kobe, you'll love this. This is the same thing. And only 1 nc per serving! I use it on my sautéed vegetables and also use a little with my chicken. I got it at Publix in their produce section.

Are you one of Deb's recruits from another thread?
GS=Grand Son

Deb~Quack! Feeling more Re-grouped yet?

CJ~Bummer on catching that cold! Yay...on the pre-med wt!

Karen~U R a Good GrMa!

Avy~Have a Good Read tonight.

No rain here...but, it sure was a chilly one today w/wind! Burrrr!
Tried Paddling on the lake this morning & had to quit due to the rough water & north wind! We ended up going to the river where we were protected more from the wind. But, I fell off my board when I was rubber necking at a Beautiful Eagle in a Tree! That water was FREEZING & I scared the Eagle away when I fell!

Picadillo (Mex. Stew)
Adjust Seasoning & other ingredients to taste.
In place of potatoes add turnips or cauliflower.
L/C it any way you see fit.

Brown 2 lbs. of Lean ground round in a pot
While browning add:
Crushed red chile
Chile powder
Cumin
Oregano
Salt or Lawry's salt
Add:
chopped onions, minced garlic, bell pepper,

Stir all around to avoid sticking.
Add more seasonings as needed
Add an oz. or more of worchestershire sauce.
Stir and stir...
Add 1 lb. can of crushed or broken up whole tomatoes (or more if you want it soupier)
and can add beef boullion too.
Let simmer for 45 minutes or so.
Taste...adjust seasonings as needed
Serve on top of a bed of rice or in a bowl by itself
Tortillas on the side and jalapenos

I just saw pix on the need of massive flooding in Calgary. I hope it's not that bad where you are Deb. I know it is east of you but you've had quite a bit of rain too.

Pat thanks for the recipe I bet that was chilly fall from the board shiver shiver.

Bucky I will have to see if our stores carry that sauce.

Welcome to the first day of Summer and we are in for a great weekend. Its been a busy week and I am so glad today is Friday! I woke up feeling thinner today, we will see tomorrow I know I have been on plan and getting exercise in some form everyday. Even through a rather stressful week. Went to Zumba last night and the instuctor up the Tempo almost killed me but I survive, easy for her she is a tiny little cutie 20 some year old but it was fun! Deb and Cheryl I thought about Deb rain when I saw the news last night. I do have a young niece in Calgary who has already been evecualted and we know she is save, my sister is pretty worried about here but she will be fine. So many people this is affecting feel bad for them all. Deb thats so nice of you to try and get your friend out and spend time having fun, your just a good person all around. Cherlyl on your premed weight and I know its been a struggle for you but you will get there we all will. Hope your cold takes a hike summer colds are no fun! Bucky welcome and this is a great group for sure. Lots of laughs but we are all after the same goal at the end of the day. Pat feel off her board?? That would be cold unless your water is warmer then our, your recipe sounds and looks yummy. Avy we can tell you are enjoying your course you will ace that exam. Karen, Everything in moderation is true but some things I can't have just one of but I am getting better at it. Where have you been Laura and Cowgirl havent seen eithe of you in awhile. We are going for brunch again tomorrow after our walk DH going to join us then we have company coming across the river so going to put on a big pot of chili to make a simple supper for all of us. Sunday is going to be fairly quiet and sunshine all through it all. I have to go out to Timmins with the boys on Tuesdays train for a couple of days for their braces. I am looking forward to getting away and getting my hair cut but not looking forward to the 5 hour train ride, oh well good reading time. I really want to stick to plan while we are out this time. I am in a good state of mind right now and need to stick with it. Hope you all have a great Friday.

That's a big flood! On the news they showed a house in a raging river colliding with a bridge.

Pat FOS

Jo feels thinner! That should make for a good weigh in. Sounds like you are going to be real busy. A train ride sounds fun. Of course that's because I've never taken one

Deb did you and your friend have a good time? My Dad had lung cancer. You are a good friend.

Went to the Doctor this morning, scheduled all sorts of blood tests for the morning, basically testing everything! I've had sleep issues all my life, and achy joints for years, and I'm tired a lot for no reason imo, and it's just time for a good ole' checkup!

Scale jumped up another 1.4 lbs over night! Back to 183 lbs, bleh. Eating too much and too many carbs, although it's veggie carbs and berries. I ate a cookie today though and feel the cravings more lately, think I've been slacking on the L-Glutamine, so I'm getting those back in between meals.

Having a giant butter/coconut oil/heavy cream decaf coffee right now, and lots of water to keep under control. :P Going to do some more course reading and try not to eat everything in the house and all of my BF's junk lol. Still feeling rather hormonal and hungry in general, but I'll survive!

Oh by the way, my Doc is thrilled with my 50 lb weight loss in the last year, and my woe, although I didn't say "Low Carb" I described it.
