Thanks for that SlowSure. I'd say 10lbs in 28 days is pretty impressive! So are cold potatoes meant to be more effective then?

10lbs was amazing for me and the most that I've ever lost in such a short period - but I know some people report dropping that in 5 days.

Unhelpfully, I'd say that no one can give a definitive opinion as to whether hot or cold potatoes are more effective because nobody knows for sure why this potato hack works or if it works differently for different people.

Some possible explanations are discussed here: A DD Hack

One of the JUDDD people, Adi, sticks to a substantial breakfast and then nothing else but cold potatoes for her DDs (leaving a 5-6hr gap from her breakfast, so there's no possible interference with any mechanism of action from the potatoes). It's worked really well for her.

Other people feel quite certain that it's the increase in blood sugar, the insulin surge to clear it etc. that mobilises their fat stores.

I think that Ray Cronise indicated that he's looking to publish an academic paper on this at some point but there's been no indication of when this might be or what his results have been like. (Ray Cronise is the chap who floated it originally as an interesting test of the insulin-carbohydrate hypothesis of weight gain.)

Hello all! Apologies for being MIA - I have so much that needs either doing (admin, paperwork) or replying to (looming mass of emails) that I am paralysed!! Of course the irritation of re-bookmarking every month doesn't help... Could someone explain again why we have to do that?

No time for personals just now, but glad those who've been on hols enjoyed themselves, finding the prospect of eating nothing but potatoes for days and that without butter a NIGHTMARE, and huge hugs to Mimosa x x x

Ah, Shy, I try to keep my email for direct messages only, so any "social" sites I bookmark so I can read when I have time to do so. So every month I have to un-bookmark the last thread, come out of everything (because if I have two threads from this site open at once, it messes up the "View first unread" function), re-find the new thread and re-bookmark. And I don't have the patience to do that without grumbling :-)

Vicky - hooray on Oman and the fact that your husband will be along soon - and all the very best with setting up your new business. Courage, ma brave!

Kissa, goodness, 8 countries in 16 days?? Sounds exhausting. Have a fabulous time!

Everyone else, hello!

Why don’t you bookmark ”My subscribed threads” instead? https://www.lowcarbfriends.com/bbs/subscription.php

You can be subscribed to a thread without getting notification emails. That way you don’t need to change the bookmark, and as long as the end of one thread points to the next thread you can find us. (I don’t really know why there’s a new thread each month either — I know they have a limit on permitted thread length, but it would probably accommodate one per year.)

I'm all for keeping a permanent thread going.

Thanks for the info Sure. I am trying the potato thing today but I can already tell I'm unlikely to stick to it. How on earth did you do it for 28 days without dying of boredom?!

Mint, welcome back to the Middle East! You've arrived just as the temperatures are soaring.

Kissa, have a fab time on your train journey.

Juno, hope you catch up on all your admin soon.

Morning. hi to everyone just passing by

I think we decided on a monthly thread because at that at point in time the threads had lots of people contributing and they got so long.

Personally I think monthly is better as LCF don't put newest threads at the front page. One long thread also means that you have to scroll through lots of pages to get to where you want to catch up from especially if you have been MIA as I have of late.

Hope this makes sense...most of what I am doing lately doesn't lol ...

Very good point Lola. Must admit it puts me off when I see a thread that's really long....

What was I thinking of attempting the potato diet?! Me, potatoes, all day long? hahahahahaha, I lasted til lunchtime and caved in to an apple! Think I'll put that one down to 'experience'!

Hope everyone's having a lovely weekend.

Hi all,

Just doing a quick fly by. Nothing much to report, work is busy.
My grandmother is still hanging on.

Work in our garden has progressed nicely, and once the grass has grown (now it's just a patch of earth with seeds) I'll post some pictures.

For the rest, well eating a more naturally nutricious diet has its advantages: I'm sleeping better, my skin has never been this good, I am losing inches again and my hair and nails are growing like crazy (that is probably the DE working).

My menu today:
B: homemade raw milk yogurt with raw honey, bee pollen, cinnamon and chia seeds
L: salad (rocket, mixed leaves, purslane) with beef from broth making, saurkraut, feta and avocado.
D: not sure, have to rummage in fridge and check out the leftovers, glass of kombucha.

Have a good day everyone!

Hi Everyone,

Having posted last Tuesday morning that I was back home, I then dashed to the west coast that night as my daughter had an emergency surgery....she's fine now, and I enjoyed a few unexpected days with her in California.

So, home for real this time and catching up with the thread. Glad you are in the Middle East, Mint - wishing you all the best with your business and settling in. Kissa - you must be mid dash around all those countries! Can't wait to hear all about it! Mimosa - sorry about your grandmother's situation, but well done on the healthy eating . Big wave to everyone else

I fear the potato hack is not for me - but well done Slowsure!

Trying to get into a good eating/exercise routine after a few weeks off-track. I went to Zumba today and am eating 'mindfully'. Would like to shed a couple of pounds, but am focusing on making the calories I eat nutritional ones . Just need to make the ones I drink the same !

Mid May already - where does the time go....?! Have a good week all.

Mim, glad you're eating well and hope grandma is as well as can be.

Jan, your poor DD, hope she's okay now. I had to laugh about nutricious drinking - I am out at a ladies night tonight and a champagne brunch on Friday - surely grapes are nutricious, yes?!

Hi everyone else - it's very quiet around here!

Thank you. It's amazing what stall-induced-desperation will make me willing to try.

I like to have an outline schedule for 2 weeks ahead for my meal-planning so I'm already thinking about the next Bank Holiday.

Too right, Blotto! I think we are onto something.......And keeping a healthy balanced intake of red AND white grapes will be optimal!

Morning all!

Jan: glad your daughter is ok!

Happy Thursday indeed! Sun is shining and I'm stuck at work, LOL!

We have a bank holiday weekend coming up here (I think Germany is up there with almost as many as Spain, LOL) and apart from driving up and back to Holland to see my grandmother for the day on Saturday, I've not planned much. Gardening is definitely on the cards... BF has built an amazing herb construction, and has now designed a sort of high flowerpot barrier thingy, which will stand on the terrace so it can create a dining corner. Very nice! BF is really amazing, and still after more than two years I can honestly say that I love him more every day. Who would have thought that after everything (and at my age) I would find the man I want to spend the rest of my life with???? Sigh.... (and I'm not even talking about our sweet dog!!!)

Enough with that, you'd think I'm an infatuated teenager the way I'm going on!

Wishing everyone a good Thursday!

My menu:

B: yogurt with all the usual trimmings
L: mixed leaf salad, radishes, cucumber, tomato, tuna, saurkraut, feta with olive oil and flax seed oil vinaigrette
D: not sure. I will decide later! Could be an omelette with spinach...

Morning all!

Well all this talk from Jan and Blotto about wine has gotten me all excited about the orders I've placed with various family members for some of the good white and red stuff!

My brother and his GF went on a trip to the Bordeaux area in France, and have come back with a nice selection of red and whites for me to try out. My father has just ordered 36 bottles of white wine (Dry Riesling from the Mosel area in Germany) for me from his supplier, and I'm also getting 24 bottles (Claret from France) of red from him. This will stock up my wine supply nicely, LOL! I guess all that's missing is some Champagne!!!!!!

I'm looking forward to the long weekend, we have Monday off for Pentecost here. Going to Holland tomorrow to see my grandmother, and for the rest we will have to do some more gardening and maybe some relaxing even!

Wishing you all a nice weekend!

My menu:
B: the usual yogurt
L: salad made from radishes, cucumber, tomato, wild garlic, spring onions, saurkraut , feta, vinaigrette, mixed with chicken from my chicken broth which I'll have a cup of as well.
D: Either white asparagus with Kassler ham, hardboiled eggs and homemade hollandaise sauce, or meatballs with garlic sauteed cauliflower...

xxx

Mimosa,
Your BF does sound great, and I love the sound of the garden he has created.
Enjoy all that new wine - let Blotto and me know if you need help sampling everything....

I'm finally able to return to my fitness class today (6months after the last surgery). And I have dropped 3lbs since my hols. Yay!

Another good thing - the litter of Field Spaniel puppies that we're on a waiting list for is due tomorrow Hoping for a black male....even if a third dog will confirm that I am a crazy dog lady!!

Have a good weekend all whatever you are doing.

LOL! Sounds like a perfect amount to me! You do realise that puppy pictures are a must here in this thread?????

My parents' springer spaniel is turning one this weekend, if you think you are mad, I guess admitting to getting a little birthday snack present for the birthday puppy isn't too bad?
