Hey guys, what's going on ?

I was on here awhile back but fell off the bandwagon. Now I really need to succeed and hopefully I can do it now!

I am glad this forum is still around!

Hey guys,

Forgot to check in on Monday. Was down a pound from last week. Weight loss is slow but pure fat as far as I can tell from the mirror. Upper abs and pecs are getting more defined. Planning to start to some targeted carb-ups/refeeds this Friday with 6 weeks to go until Tough Mudder.

Explorerny - welcome back. Good luck getting back on track.

Still rolling. I skipped morning exercise yesterday, but was back at it today. I keep having to get up earlier as I've been stretching my jogs out. I'm hesitant to do too much as my feet, knees and back are all feeling good and I don't want to overdo a good thing.

Welcome back Exploreny!

so all this week around dinner I havent been hungry really, usually I eat something at work at around 3pm. Last nite I didnt feel like eating anything at all, didnt even feel hungry really until I was going to sleep.

usually I am starving around dinner time, its weird.

tomorrow I will pause low carb, but try to eat responsibly, for the weekend. Doing really well now, the scale is on the way down.

thanks

thanks for welcoming me back.

I know this is the way to go. It works for me. But my trouble is motivation and staying on the plan.

How do you stay motivated ?

Staying motivated is tough. You need reasons and incentive. Being healthy for my wife and children is one. I'd hate to think that I could lose years of time with them and grandchildren because I can't stop eating bad food.

I also use a little pride/shame for motivation. I have two pictures right next to each that I see every morning. One from Christmas of 2000 when I was 265 lbs and one from June of 2005 when I was 190. I'm a lot closer to 190 now, but still a little ashamed that I couldn't keep my weight in that range.

Another factor is that I know I feel better and more confident when I'm in a good weight range. No matter how much I spend on a suit, it's going to look like crap on me if I continue to have my weight go up and down. I was recently a speaker at a statewide convention in my field, and my biggest fear was that my suit jacket would make me look like an overstuffed sausage when I buttoned it.

The key is you have to find what motivates you. Like me it will probably be a variety of factors for you. Whatever it is, you just have to keep at it. It's really hard, but we all know that this works if we do it.

Welcome explore! I set myself a goal/reward and work for it. For instance, my big goal right now is an Ironman in 2015. By I have a couple short term goals, at 250 I'm getting my next tat for instance. These are rewards that keep me moving and working towards it. Also, once you're in the lifestyle, everything just kinda goes on cruise control and you done even think about eating on plan.

My birthday is up here in two weeks and the fiance was talking about what I wanted to do. The first thought though my head was ugh, I wonder how long its gonna take me to get back on my diet plan. It will come. Just stick it out in the short term, and eventually it will just happen.

In other news, my blood tests came back from the doc, I'm perfect. Well kinda. I'm not gonna post the whole lot of em up here, (I did on my blog, see below), but the only thing I'm slightly deficient in is Vitamin D. Considering I live in Seattle, I say I'm ok with that. Even so, I'll pick up some supplements and see if I can boost that up.

Also, stepped on the scale today, dropped below 280 for the first time. Barely below 280, but I'm here.

Thanks guys.

Citi congrats on the blood work.

I can help with any health-related questions you may have. I'm a nurse.

I know so much about being healthy, but I don't follow my own advice.

Most people are deficient in Vitamin D, suddenly, in medicine they are now proactively treating it, which I agree with. I take 2000 units a day.

Light day for me in the gym tonight. Did a one mile run and a .1 walk as a taper before my 5K in the morning. Also did a set of 30 leg raises on the bench press rack and 20 decline situps.

Third official 5K in the morning, I'm actually kinda excited for this one. I should post a pretty good time, as my last long run I did was a lot faster and much easier than any of my previous ones.

Tried to make another batch of my peanut butter cups, failed twice. On the third attempt same thing happened, but decided to just take the clumpy stuff and form it into brownie like things. Not really the same thing, but still gives me that chocolate peanut butter taste.

@explore: thanks dude, I'm sure I'll hit you up sooner or later for some info.

Have a good weekend gents.

Sunday

just got in from our nite away across the border. Picked up a bunch of low carb stuff way cheaper than here in Canada, bunch of chocolates, pop, jam, etc. Also got some other not so low carb things for treats later when I get where I wanna be weight wise.

Yesterday I woke up to a great weigh in, I psyched myself out and didnt want to ruin it by eating garbage. I did have a little bit, but not enough to make any difference. It was weird because then everyone didnt eat all the junk we usually do when we do those trips.

Just weighed and I am down a little bit from yesterday, not a whole lot but its downward now. May have talked my wife into jumping onboard at least with cutting junk out when we can.

Whats been working amazing for me lately is Protein shakes with LC powder and unsweetened almond milk. and then eating every 2-3 hrs with my biggest meal of the day being in the afternoon.

CTI - thats pretty good times you have going there, keep it up man,

Ok, I give up. Help me over analyze what I'm doing wrong here. I've been bouncing around the same 5 pounds for the last two weeks and can't seem to get the scale moving.

It seems like I'm living off of bullet proof coffee, macadamia nuts, chicken, canned chicken, asparagus, spiniach and goat cheese. Calories sit between 1500-2500 on any given day and generally in the teens for carbs. Here are a couple of screen shots recent days in ******.

My exercise is good. I'm just about every day with no more than one day off. Today for instance, I did 30 min bike (10.8 miles), a mile jog, and another mile walk after dinner. Yesterday was my 5k, and the day before I did a core workout with a short run too.

So I'm stuck, my diet is on track, my exercise should be more than ample, and still bouncing between 279-285.

Argh!

Citgrad congrats on the 5k! You're an inspiration.

Sorry the scale wont budge. Do you ever use Ketostix ? They test your urine to see if you are in ketosis. What is the amount of macadamia nuts and the amount of goat cheese ? Perhaps that's whats stalling you.

Shiner45 what brand of LC powder do you use ? I have seen a bunch but the carb counts are too high for my taste.

And I was very bad. Went off the eating plan this weekend, and why ? Because I was stressed out. That's my biggest problem. I am back on it and just pushing forward.

Had a pretty good week here overall. Still struggle with eating too much one day and then trying to make up for that with a day or two of heavily restricting calories, and then repeating that. I need to work on just keeping thing on a more even keel.

explorerny - Nice loss. Stress gets me all the time too. It turns on appetite like a switch.

CTI- Nice job on the 5k.

monday weigh in

April 1st - 181
April 22nd - 172. -9lbs

Very happy so far. These last 2 weeks have been really good. No exercise yet but don't want to push the back quite yet.

Explore - I think its Kaizen brand, in a white tub with green design. I get it from Costco here in canada, usually on sale its $40, $50 no sale. I like the chocolate mixed with chocolate unsweetened almond milk.

CTI - give it a couple more days, I went through the same thing last week and then all of a sudden the scale started moving again.

No Change.

If there's no objection, I'm going to post my weigh-in on Thursdays as opposed to Mondays. The way I'm starting to cycle carbs has me bloated a bit come Monday.

Training highlight this past week was a set of 10 dead-hang chins with a 35 lb. kettlebell strapped on.

CTI - congrats on the improved 5K time. You are holding a lot of fluid due to inflammation from the sudden increase in exercise volume and intensity (possibly 5-10 pounds I'd say). If you rest for a few days and let your body recover, you will likely see a substantial drop on the scale.

Thanks dude. Thats what I kinda thought too. So now I'm torn, do I pull back for a few days and see if the scale budges, or do I keep plowing forth. On a brighter note, I fit back into my 42's (with a little room to spare), am wearing a soft shell that couldn't zip at Christmas time, and I have tons of energy.

I also think I found my first tri. Its a sprint (.25 mile swim, 9.8 mile ride, 3.2 mile run). Its the first week of September, so that give me just over 4 months to train for it. If I dont do that one, there is only a handful of sprint tris left for the year, as it gets to cold and rainy up here after that.

Checking in....

Did 60 min on the bike last night on my graveyard shift. 20 on level 6 and 40 on level 5; 20.8 miles. Had a serving of macadamia nuts and a fat bomb after hat hour. Between that and a red bulk zero, I made it through the shift.

Decided to swing by Home Depot on the way home, picked me up an electric smoker that ice wanted for six months. Seasoned it, and popped in a brisket to smoke today. 6 hours later I was ready for some goodness. I used a smokers rub I bought, and the flavor is ok. Need to work on that.

Went to the gym tonight with my buddy.

15 min bike
30 decline leg presses (2x15)
20 decline leg presses single leg (2x10)
30 Glute raises (3x10)
30 leg raises (laying on bench press 3x10) with last set an iso
30 decline sit ups
30 back raises
2 sets of planks 20-30 seconds

Finished that in about an hour. Legs are pretty stil pretty sore from the 5k, jog and bike yesterday, considering all that had a good leg day.

Swimming tomorrow night. Thinking about increasing my yardage a bit, but I dunno.

Nice job Stack. Ken having a good month too. CTI, congrats on the new smoker.

Things are going pretty well here, but nothing really new or interesting to report on that front. I turned down some free cupcakes at work the other day. Pretty proud of myself for that, I have a weakness for baked goods.

Quick check in before bed. Big things are happening on the scale this week. Hopefully I can hold it for Monday.

Took yesterday off, swam 850 yards today which included one 100 yard crawl and a 200 yard breast/crawl. I dropped my 25 yard stroke count from 23 to 21 so that's better too. Trying to decide if I should swim or run in the morning. Maybe I'll sleep in, I spent that last two days installing a new stereo in my boat and am beat. But so worth it tonight on the lake.

Hey guys,

Still plugging along here. Hit a bit of a wall with the weight loss again, expect it to kick back in, in a day or so. Still keeping the carbs under 30.

So far this week a contractor has brought in donuts and muffins almost everyday. Wednesday another one brought in 8 pizzas for lunch. Today the boss offered to take us out for fish and chips for lunch. So far I have avoided everything.

Its funny how offended some people can get when u choose not to eat certain foods.

Stack - thursday weigh in would probably work better for me too, the monday one does keep me honest over the weekend though ( mostly)

I've got 7 or so lbs left to get back where I want to be. I am hoping by then my back is good and I can start back at the cardio again. I have been doing pushups and pull downs at least once a week just to be able to say I'm doing something.

Have a good weekend.

Ken - I deal with that at work too. Food pushers, I'll sometimes in a joking manner tell them that I can completely sabotage my own healthy eating, I don't need them greasing the wheels too.

CTI - Nice to see the boat back in the water. Cool pic with the mountain in the background.

Not a good weekend for me. We had a cub scout campout. That camping was great, but I failed to plan properly and I just gave in and ate like everyone else. It was a lot easier, but I'm having serious buyers remorse as I went off plan and the food wasn't even what could be called decent. Oh well, back on low carb, and I'll definitely plan better next time.

Ken, nice work on avoiding the saboteurs. Does walking irritate your back? When I was awaiting surgery on mine a few years back, A brisk 2-3 mile walk was about all I could do. Some cardio is better than none!

CTI - nice pic!

Doing pretty good here. Going to miss monthly weigh in tomorrow, but should be able to get one in on Thursday. As long as nothing crazy happens between now and then, it should be my second month in a row with a loss.

Well I was gonna post up my progress the last two weeks, as I've been kinda skipping Monday weigh days, but as tomorrow is May 1, I'll just wait till then....

Started reading, "The Triathlete's Bible" last night at work. Tons and tons of good stuff in there about training even if its for only one sport. More to come about the book later when I actually finish it.

One section that I read last night talked about successful triathletes and their mental tenacity. The don't give up, push harder, fight through it attitude you have to have. The attitude that when you're tired or sore, or when apathy sets in, the will power to get up and go get your workout in.

So this morning when I got off the mid, even though my stomach was in a knot from the red bull/coffee IV drip that kept me awake all night, I grabbed a quick snack, let my stomach settle down, and headed to the pool. Last week I upped my yardage from 600 to 850, and today I pushed it again and made it to 1000 yards in about 40 min. Felt like death, and all I wanted to do was crawl in bed, but I pushed through it and got it done.

Form wasn't so hot, and I really struggled on some of my longer sets (200 and 100 yarders). I also started to use some hand paddles, which are supposed to give you more of a strength workout while swimming. All I know is that with those things I fly around the pool. I was even lapping one of the other girls in there that I think is on the swim team. If only you could use them in a race....

Weird this week, I stayed the same weight all week up until saturday when it began coming off. Started to get a bit annoyed but stuck with it.

Today I had a cheat meal as I felt I couldnt stick another vegetable or piece of salad in my mouth without throwing up. With the cheat meal I ate half of what I would normally eat and ate the other half a few hours later. Portion control is my biggest problem.

Not sure where I am going with this since I have done under 30 g, more like 20g for the last month or so.

BigD - the back pain has all but gone away,, it actually helped me to walk, seemed to loosen things up, was more sore in the mornings when I just started moving.

Am hoping to start exercising and then trying to eat smaller portions, I seem to be an emotional eater, trying to work on it.

Hopefully tomorrows weigh in will make the month worth it.

Total Lost: 42.5 (13.4%)
Lost in April: -10.8
Goal: < 200

A solid showing for me here. What that doesn't show is that most of that loss came in the last week. For most of April I hovered around 282-285 and couldn't get the scale to budge. This last week I saw a couple big losses. Not sure if its due to a more strict diet, or the increased activity. Either way, I'm happy to be sitting in the 270's again.

Decided last night to skip dinner as I wasn't really that hungry, and had a bulletproof coffee a couple hours before bed. Terrible idea. Had the worst stomach pains all night long. That MCT oil really does me in.

Planning on running this morning, and maybe a bike ride this afternoon. Its my birthday week, so I'm considering taking it a bit easy. With that, we're planning on going out Friday for my birthday, so that will be a cheat day. I feel like I should be excited for it, but I find myself more dreading going off plan, then taking two weeks to get back to where I was.

Good luck to the rest of ya!

Oh almost forgot...

Friday is my birthday, and its a planned cheat day. I kinda almost dont want to cheat. Actually I'm dreading it. I finally got all my ducks in a row and now I'm gonna throw them off the bridge. Ugh. But I've been planning this for over a month now, and I want beer and sushi. I'll be right back at it come Saturday. Also new blog updates.
