Monica, again, thanks for all of your valuable input!
So, after doing a quick inventory of foods, it looks like DD16 is pretty ahead of the game on things she can eat that she likes..I am so relieved! It's just a matter of staying motivated and thinking outside the box sometimes for meals..
So far so good, dinner's a success and she's feeling good! Fingers crossed!!!

Let me know what you need recipe wise. WE have a huge variety of stuff on file. Also there are some great rice noodles. Shirataki is the brand and it is GREAT! You just have to make certain to cook them long enough and then rinse them well before you use them. WE make pizza casserole with them, pasta salad, mac n cheese, you name it!

I even found a recipe last night for GF Monkey bread. That is one thing we have not been able to duplicate. Dennis said he would be willing to make it. If any bread calls for yeast and such, I AM OUT!

Danielle, my oldest, who is almost 21, has had this attitude since coming home from school. It drove me nuts at first. I knew he needed time to adjust, etc., but it still seemed like he just stalled out. All of a sudden he seems to be moving in the right direction. It's not that he was doing anything horrible, just seemed kind of stuck in place and unsure of what to do next, but definitely had the quit bothering me attitude. So I did. And you know what? On his own he dumped the athletic guidance counselor that wasn't getting him where he needed and has been working with another guidance counselor and really getting things straightened out. I'm really not worried about him anymore. He's taking longer than some of the other kids his age, but he's moving the right direction and I'm happy that he's figuring it out on his own. After coming back from the academy he was adamant that he didn't want to go to the local state college. He wanted to go away to school (again). Now he doesn't care and just wants to get on with it. We told him we would help him with whatever he decides, but honestly, he had school paid for (sigh) and we don't feel like we need to go into debt to help him live in dorms (or an apartment) out of town when there is a very good UC and a CS within easy driving distance & he can stay here. Your DD is still so young. I have no faith in my little one... sad, but true... his brother tries to push him to do better and DS19 just isn't there yet. I'm letting him flounder a bit, but I'm still thinking technical school will be a good option for him? Even though he's 19 he just graduated HS last year. He has a November birthday and we waited that extra year to start him in kindergarten. Glad we did, because he's still a little immature for his age at times. But yeah, I used to be such a helicopter parent, and I'm just not anymore. They'll figure it out and I'm here to help if they need it. I think that's all we can do with these older kids, sometimes. Hang in there. All of our kids are really doing well if we think of the alternatives

Monica, you're such a helpful wealth of info

Liz, glad you found the flax. I don't even like Jamba Juice, lol, but your smoothie certainly sounds healthy! Glad it was yummy!

TGIF!! It was a long long week!

Monica~ Again, thanks for all the GF talk with me! The mac n cheese is something DD will want eventually, she loves that stuff! Where do I get that rice, do I have to order it?? Does the whole fam eat GF?

Genie~ Welcome! Can't wait to hear about your new tattoo!! I am wanting another one too!

Tami~ I lucked out with DS and his sticktoit-ness..he just keeps plodding along no matter what. He opted to go 2hrs away from school and that meants him figuring out how to pay for an apt since he wasn't about to live on campus as a sophomore .. He has never come to us and asked us to pay for a thing..he saves, he pinches his pennies and he's made it work.. of course we help him without asking either with sending a lil $ when I have it, or boxes of "stuff"..he loves those! DD18 is the one who is afraid of hard work..she *can* do it but she really has to study..it's just not her. I've told her I don't care if you do a vocational school instead of a 4yr degree, learn to cut hair or whatever...anything that will help you support yourself with a trade.. She is veering from art to photography...both choices not so easy to break into career wise so I dunno??? The photog thing was a general curiosity at first, she bought a super nice camera after Xmas and has a friend who knows all about photography.. she's a natural.. She needs to figure it out and quit wasting her money! She works part time but not enough to help support herself with a car and insurance...and she needs a car...like NOW! DS is going back to work after being off for a year..he was able to take time off because of his superstar saving abilities DD16 works and is saving for a car and she will more than likely go to ASU for business..she may opt to stay home for the first year and commute to campus.. like I said, she's a smart cookie! Letting them find their way is hard but I had zero support, zero guidance and I ended up ok..just do not want any one of them to struggle like their parents did, that's the hard part to accept if that's the road one of them (esp DD18) chooses to go down.

OH! And the smarmy icky boyfriend she had????? She dumped him. Apparently homey isn't mature nor self-confident enough to "allow" her to hang out with her guy friends... I KNEW that's what it would come down to. She's followed in her mama's footsteps and has way more guy friends than girls...so much easier when you're younger...girls are so catty and witchy ...yep, he is toast and I was practically dancing a jig when I found out!
----------------------------
Not sure of plans tonight but I think we may go out to dinner.. not sure how I feel about that seeing as the scale went up AGAIN this morning.. up +.2 TOM is lurking so I'm sure that's part of it...meh.

Got Jillian's book yesterday.. it's awesome so far. Haven't gotten into what she says for diet but I am curious!

Welp, so far so good with the kiddo....she woke up rested and feeling great, no tummy troubles at all.. She left today actually excited to eat lunch. Crossing my fingers for her!

Genie - sounds like a super cool tattoo!!!

Tami - We tend to not hover, I want both kids to make mistakes now when they won't make a huge difference in things. That way, when on their own, making the decisions aren't a big deal. We were just talking about a Mom we all know who HOVERS greatly over her 6th grade daughter. She is super smart and her MOM holds her back on a bunch of things. I do not ever want to be that way. Not that I don't make mistakes, I am sure both with need therapy...I tend to be a total mess at times.

D - I buy the rice noodles at our regular grocery store in the Health food section but any health food store would have them too. As for is our whole family GF, no. If we are all going to be eating XX, DH will make it GF. If it's a DD, then we make whatever and don't worry about GF. Only if I am truly involved do we make certain it is GF.

I pray both my kids head down a smart path. All we can do is offer the help when we can.

Tonight I am going to try to rent 50 first Dates. H and I started talking about that movie last night and she is dying to see it now. So funny and it has been years since I saw it. Making pizza and I am drinking some wine! Love an Up Day on a Friday!

Monica~ We've never been hover'ers either. (is that a word? ) .. It's just frustrating watching things happen sometimes! They'll all land on their feet, they're smart & resilient and they do know they can come to us for anything. As parent's we just worry alot but what can ya do but send 'em into the world and pray they make the right choices and learn from the wrong. Considering some of the path's of some kids we know we consider ourselves VERY lucky!

Enjoy your UD and the show this weekend!!

Hey ladies! How was everyone's weekend. We did DVD/Pizza night Friday night. Watched 50 First Date (very funny oldie but good movie).
Saturday Haven had 3 softball games (she pitched 1 of the games and was on FIRE) then the concert. Which, as I mentioned, was awesome. I loved it all. I danced/sang/shouted for 2 1/2 hours straight! I am sure T wanted to crawl away and hide!
Sunday was church/ss for T and I and Haven/Dennis did softball. While they were still gone I watched Trouble with the curve (OK movie, nothing fantastice...Clint Eastwood is getting super old). When Haven got home she had to tell me all about her games. She pitched the winning game they had on Sunday and had 2 hits that went into the outfield. She wanted to watch Pitch perfect (AGAIN!!!) so we did!
