We live pretty much where we work! That is the hospital and the first house you see on the corner by the dike with the helicopter pad in our back yard is where we live. 2 seconds to get to work

Wow Jo! I love the pix. You do look like you are far away. Why was that island settled? A little history lesson. Did you grow up there?

How long are you usually stranded?

Cheryl here is your history lesson its a copy and paste. We have lived here about 21 years now , I am from Nova Scotia and have a house there that I plan on retiring to in the next couple of years. We came up here to work at the hospital. We live in hospital housing and on hospital road. Its a different way of life for sure. Before we moved here we lived in the NWT so this was south for us. I will likely be 6 weeks at least before we are able to cross could be longer depending on the weather. We can go by helicopter but if we have to pay its 70 dollars return so we dont do it alot. So heres the history, its a cut and paste
Moose Factory is a community in the Cochrane District, Ontario, Canada. It is located on Moose Factory Island, near the mouth of the Moose River, which is at the southern end of James Bay. It was the first English-speaking settlement in Ontario and the second Hudson's Bay Company post to be set up in North America after Fort Rupert. On the mainland, across the Moose River, is the nearby community of Moosonee, which is accessible by water taxi in the summer, ice road in the winter and chartered helicopter in the off-season (break-up or freeze-up).

The settlement is mainly inhabited by the Cree, but the hospital which provides healthcare services to the people of the island and surrounding area (collectively known as the Weeneebayko Area Health Authority) [ attracts a diverse group of people as an employer.

The term "Factory" refers to the jurisdiction of a factor (a business agent or merchant in charge of buying or selling) of the Hudson's Bay Company. Just as a rector presides over a rectory, a factor holds authority over a factory.

I remember studying about the Hudson Bay Company in school. You've been there a long time. I remember when there were TB hospitals. Our local one is a VA Hospital now. 6 weeks til you can get out maybe you can get some ice flow pix. I love all this.

Unless the ice breaks and moves out in the middle of the night my DH will have lots of break up, ice flow pictures. Some years are better then others and I think the ice is pretty thick this year so should be good Cheryl

Well had to work 2 days this week, and I exhausted. Hard to get back in the swing of it. None of my clients are back yet probably the middle of May. But there kids came up, so had to clean up there homes. And boy what a mess. I know a few glasses of wine on my list for tonight.

Deb wow 4.00 for small cauliflower. Ours is high this time of year, but it's 2 for 5.00 and huge. I bet red hair looks good on you with a nice tan. I can't wait to cut my hair, it's driving me nuts. Down to the middle of my back now.

Cheryl wtg on the loss. It's working for you Yes getting a heat wave for the rest of the week, supposed to be in the low 50's. Hope that includes some sunshine. Got to try and get some pic of DH's project. He took the snowblower and blew a whole section in the yard to be able to sit on the swing. Still about 2 feet of snow.

Jo wow your prices for cauliflower are outragest, I could buy a roast for that price. When the close your road how do you get things you need. Are there any stores on the island? Loved the history of the island. My grandfarther was from Nova Scotia. Moved up to Maine when he was young and met my grandma. Love the pic of you GD she is so beautiful.

Laura glad you got some good sleep. Quite in the ER is nice. Hope it stays the next 5 days for you.

Misty we have one store and the supplies come in for it slung under a helicopter. That is the same way I have to bring in the groceries for the hospital. We are all stocked there but I have to bring over dairy and produce once a week. Its pretty costly and you can bet our prices at the store go up even more if you can imagine and if I can get a roast for 24 dollars I would be happy. I spend about 1200 a month in groceries and thats trying to be careful. I agree she is a darling and I cant wait to see her this summer! What part of NS was your grandfather from? Sounds like you DH is having fun playing in the snow. Guess if we don't joke about it we would all cry

This is how our food will come across the river for the next 6 weeks or so. The boys class has a game on who guesses the right day for the river to break. Ones is the 18th of April and the others is the 29! Hope that it goes before that but it likely will be awhile

Jo wow that's awsome, never seen anything like that before. We do something like that with huge buckets of water to put out forest fires up here. Now can you put in orders for supplies or is that only for the stores? That basket must be huge. I love seeing pics like that.

Ok need to vent and figure out what I'm going to do. My partner in my business asked to borrow a big stainless steel pot to cook cornedbeef dinner for her senior group and I lent her mine. It was so shiney that it looked like new. Well just got it back and it looks like she cleaned the outside with sand paper, all scratches all over. Dh is not happy and I really don't know how to handle it. I'm so upset. I don't even want it anymore.

Deb I thought you would, I remember when you asked last week if I could go to a store that had the turkey on sale, I laughed and wished Its different living herem but we have a good life. As the road melt it will be like the bears everyone will come out of hibrention and we will all find out who move here over the winter. Weird but wonderful.

Misty I put in orders for the hospital but not for myself it cost around 300 a sling so its not worth it. About your pot I don't even know what to say I would be so upset. I have a beautiful 200 dollar stock pot in NS and my mom is the only person that borrows it for fundraisers at her church but she take such good care of it other then one of my sister that like me cooks I wouldnt lend it to anyone else. Not much you can do unless you ask her to replace it but consider it a lesson learned. Not everyone respects pots and because of that I seldom will share and I never will my knive and like Deb I would take a deep breath first. And in truth I have no idea what I would do next...cry
