MsGoody. Do you take magnesium? You should be for doing lc anyway, but I read on the internet that it helps migraines. I have hubby on it and he is getting WAY less headaches then he did. Might help you also. never know? I know it made a difference to him.

GoB, maintenance is very important to me THIS time around. I lost 70 before on low fat/low cal. 2 things got me. I was starving (therefore it was ''easy'' to justify eating everything again) and then it was my size. I wanted an 8. I was a 10 and slim but darn it I wanted that single digit number. And when I couldn't achieve it i said screw this.
and slowly the weight came back. 50 lbs of flab to lose again

I dealt mostly with the food. LC gives me way more yummy food vs. low fat/low cal.

I am dealing with a size 10-12 as my final number is an ok situation for me. Telling myself I am thin in a 10 and it is as low as I need to go being 5'8 and 52 years old
I can't get back to age 20 and size 6 again. It will not happen! So I gotta adjust that in my mind.

Then I need to work on long term food. I mean, who doesn't want to say just a little bit of junk carbs cause I am on vacation, I am at a wedding, I am wanting to party up a bit over the weekend with pizza and beer? Hmmmm. This is something I have to deal with in my mind. LC FOREVER! No 'tastes' or 'off plan days' or 'a compromise' and hope I don't backslide. hmmm. I gotta find a way to work thru this all.

and I love Leo's posts! good advice and thought behind them.

magnesium is amazing stuff! I researched it recently and immediately began to supplement my diet. I mean...people have no idea! It can save you from a heart attack!

Leo is a knowledge stud! Hey...I can't wait to get to goal, then intentionally go under goal one or two pounds, so I can go out and get some pizza and beer! But that's how that will have to work. Earn it and go get it. Don't want to earn it...then stick with the plan.

Trigger---Good thinkin' on the "happy to be a slim size 10." Besides as we've discussed, women's sizes are all over the board, and what's a 10 in one label is an 8 or 12 in another. I find I have to take a couple of sizes in to the fitting room. In a way, on-line shopping is somewhat easier only in that they give you their sizing chart---but those aren't always right either.

In any case, I'm w/you, this time I'm determine to maintain when I get to maintenance, instead of falling off the wagon and doing this AGAIN. No sir. But then this woe is easier to maintain than any diet OR exercise program. Done it a year now, long enough to know what it feels like as a lifestyle and to know I like it.

Gobah---ummm, I think Leo is a studette, LOL, and a very smart and experienced one. And yeah, Magnesium is amazing. Dr. Eades says if he could recommend only one supplement to his LC patients, or to anyone, it would be magnesium.

Well, I'm back in focus and feeling determine instead of discouraged. 2 pounds down this am, not surprised, some of my big bounce up was clearly bloat, maybe even most of it. But I'm sure some of it was several meals eaten out in a row, social life make up for all the cancellations due to weather.

I think part of my discouragement had to do w/being so determine to meet my goal of 180 by the time I go to San Diego to meet up w/my old pals in the beginning of April. At the beginning of Feb, that seemed so doable, just 4 pounds in 2 months did not seem too much to aim for. But, for whatever reason, it might not happen. Not giving up that it could, but have to get face to face w/the fact it might not, and really, it's just a number on the scale, one not as convincing, frankly, as the notches on a belt.

Gotta watch those goals, they're helpful and empowering, until they're not. SIGH, again, just call me the tortoise, but one who's determine to win her race, however long it takes.

oh yea Leo is a gal

Blue that is so true what you wrote about 'setting goals'. I got caught also. When I make that statement, I will lose XXX in 1 month or whatever, it usually backfires and drags me down. I basically stopped those mini goals. I can never seem to get them but when I shut my mouth and forget those mini goals I do so much better actually.

if me and you are having a race, it would be 2 tortoise at the start line LOL
I am no hare and realized it is ok to be the tortoise. And yes, BEING on plan this long does really cement it in for us!

FREEZING RAIN is pouring down right now. bits of sleet mixed in.

school cancelled. intense rain and pasture/backyard darn near an ocean!
COLD outside also. icicles on the porch railings. trees aren't iced so that is good.

HONESTLY I must have the change SOON into spring or I am going to have a meltdown. I am a hot weather gal. This is SO NOT me that it takes a huge toll on me. almost into madness

down .8
so my protein yesterday helped me

but I hate this.....I feel so darn fat it is insanity. I feel bloated, huge, flabby and horrible.

I lost .8 and feel fatter than when I was at my top weight.

GO FIGURE?

I just don't understand these weird physical things when they happen. drive me bonkers on top of the disgusting weather

Didin't get shoed yesterday. blacksmith cancelled due to high winds and cold. which is good in a way. why put on new shoes if this weather is continuing. he said probably next week.

since I am basically stuck I am going to get my Shark Steamer and hit my hardwood floors. alot of stinking work. gotta vacuum all of it first, then move dining table etc. BLeck! BUT this is the boring day to do it and get it over with. been putting off giving it the big clean

So gonna go get moving and a few things accomplished.

All us LC people are doing it! Working it! Living it! Keep the faith!!

Ok Trig, you know you're going to hear .8 is great, because it is. So congratulations on moving it down.

Like you said "keep the faith." There is another area of my life where we all say "keep the faith" too. Because life is full of trials, but we gotta keep the faith. Faith is based on hope. Without hope humans don't last.

You've probably heard about the experiment they did on rats years ago. They put them in water and they drowned within minutes. But they rescued one just as it was going under.

Later they put that same rat in water and it treaded water for something crazy, like 24 hours, because it had been rescued before and it remembered and it kept it's head above water because it had hope.

Keep your head up Trig...a healthier, trimmer you is waiting

Trigger---Congrats on that .8! You're moving down and not up so that is great! For me, the bloat is that salty stuff. I'm sorry about your weather, that just plain old stinks! It plays such a big role in our moods and I'm sure that's what you're really upset about, but that will get better too. It has to!

GoBahnsen---Love the updated picture!

Ok, no real loss for me today. Down .2 but I'm not even going to count it. On the upside of that I did get to see 157 so, I know that's coming. It's reassuring. My clothes are feeling like they're supposed to feel. Like I'm not a stuffed sausage in them. So, that's good! Baby steps!

Have a good day on plan!!

Like the stuffed sausage word picture. Yeah Msgoody, thnx, I like the new pic too. A really nice person that works here helped me crop it and put it in here. You know they will help you with things in here if you ask them. We look like happy people don't we? I must have had some beer before the snapshot. LOL

I loved when my 'fat stuffed' clothes got looser. It is a great feeling knowing things are changing for the better! Wait til they want to fall off, now that is sheer joy

Ok so a little off topic....

I went to my doctor to get a referral for a neurologist. I'm just trying to be safe with these headaches, after the seizure scare. Anyway, my doctor is such a cute little pregnant woman. I would guess she is 30. We were going over my migraines and the medications I've tried and such and she is basically having me diagnose myself, asking me what medications to try. I just found that so comical. She went to school for 20 years or whatever and she's asking this girl!? I mean, I don't mind and actually relish it because I know my body better than anyone else and just because they tell me to take X medicine doesn't mean I'm going to if the side effects are atrocious.

She did give me the referral I asked for and said, get this, "there's nothing else I can do for you for the headaches". Oh ok, thanks! In her defense, she is just a GP so a neurologist would know better anyway. What a funny lady and a funny day! I do really like her. She has a really great bedside manner and that is so hard to come by these days.

You are lucky you like her just for the little things.

My dr. is a lady. Love her, and they do alot of tests in their office. She has definitely referred me to specialist when needed.

the GP are just that general. they are first little line of defense...after that be grateful she got you going some where else fast. Some GP's drag it out and can harm you with that wait time.

Glad you are doing the specialist thing. cause they have those answers you need. best of luck!!!

Trigger---even though I teased you about having such great weather for awhile there, while we up here were screamin' crazy w/bad weather, I do feel for you with the freezing rain. Kind of. Was very impressed with your energy to do the floors! Wow, that's a job.

And as for that .8 down, it's DOWN girl, and that is always good news no matter how "fluffy" you feel. I'm finding more and more it's as Msgoody says, the salt. It didn't used to effect me as much several pounds ago. But I'm convinced my big jump up this past week was due to the salt in the hot dogs and in the chicken wings and sauce I had out. Dropped to 183.0 this am, one pound up from my low. So that's almost 4 pounds down in three days. BLOAT.
Hate to give up the hot dogs and sausage meat etc though...funny bacon doesn't seem to bloat me at all, and I always thought it was supposed to be so
salty.

Msgoody---I know, right?! You know you're getting old when your doctors start looking like the neighborhood teenagers to you. Now you're through the first gate, like Trig says, "the first line of defense." Good you'll get to the specialist soon. I know folks who suffer from Migraines and boy, they are horrible.

Gobah---Another vote for the new pix! You look great, and your wife is so pretty. I can really tell the diff from the first pix you posted months ago. Good work!

So today I got my LC mojo going in the way that really works for me these days. I went shopping! Went to TJ Maxx and hit the MANY clearance racks. Wow, you wouldn't believe what I got for $75 total. Still replacing all the fat clothes I got rid of months ago, and still getting rid of.

What was so fun and so encouraging was being able to wear and look good in so many inexpensive options. When I was 42 pounds heavier, I couldn't wear the fun things at TJ or many of them. Today I found so many things I had to have a talk w/myself and pare it down.

TJ Maxx is my kind of scale. Came home so jazzed about this woe, and so motivated! Happy Friday y'all.

Just checking in quick to say I'm making dinner, and it's going to be so delish. Making a chicken, hard boiled eggs and bacon salad w/my almost sugar free french dressing recipe, which is amazing, if anyone wants the recipe, and sprinkled w/fried shallots.

Plus, Hubby and I are going to watch a movie tonight, and I have a "movie" treat/dessert to look forward to. Got my GLCBC lemon bars refill today. Will lightly fry in ghee, and add whipped cream and toasted coconut, or maybe some berries.

Whatever, I'll come in 10 calories under my calorie goal today, and at just 20 carbs. Whoot! This can be such a great and satisfying way to eat.

WOO good day. under on cals and 20 nc. now that is eating good along with being super smart

Yes I hear ya on the shopping. I was in 'certain stores' and avoided others cause nothing would fit. I mean a size 16 was 'really an 8' in who knows what 'world' it came from.

but when you can get into those sizes in stores you never shopped---you are doing something right

Blue I love your spirit. You keep me in good spirits also!!! I can count on your posts to lift me up and think about things I kinda didn't....like a store to shop when in the old days you wouldn't even go in.

It has to be sodium. How can one lose a bit and feel worse and fatter? SODIUM has got to be it! nasty stuff but necessary.

I made shrimp tonight with this amazing low carb sauce. Oh. My. Goodness, sooo good! When I punched it all into my low carb app It was at 3500 calories! What!? I'm trying to keep my calories at 2000 less than that. Oh well. You live and learn.

Blue---bacon doesn't affect me either really, but pepperoni, olives (I love them!), nuts all wreak havoc with the bloat. I just have to stay away from them until I'm in maintenance and can find the "sweet spot". Where I can have them in moderation and still maintain. For now, they are the bloat devil, LOL!

You know it's so great that through all our trial and error we are able to help others find out things we might not have thought of. I love our little group!!

MsGoody what was the low carb sauce. 3500 cals sounds like an awful lot. I bet it really wasn't

but then again, I have been fooled many a time also !!

today scale was the same. hmmm. I am thinking my little tricks don't work as good as they used to----or I am just eating too heavy of lc. I am protein gal. I can inhale alot before I know it

but if I am super careful today and tomorrow after my meat/eggs days, I should see a pretty little drop. BUT THEN again I am now not relying on my little ways that happened before. seems things are not acting the same as early on in plan. hmm

it is all good tho!!!

off to the store for a few small things.
I am getting sick of spending money. LOL had some big things like we are getting our Dodge 2500 Mega Cab painted and custom to match our toyhauler. ow. hurts the wallet but hubby was saving for it. seems like money is flying thru my hands these days. gotta put a lock on the wallet for a bit

nothing much more. sunny. nice. carolina blue skies with a muck of mess out there. ground saturated beyond belief. pools of ocean still out there! I was wishing for our drought season to hurry up and come LOL

everyone stay strong today!!!!

Well the recipe was:

1/2 c. Mayo
1/2 c. Sour Cream
1/3 c. Grated Parmesan Cheese
3 tsp. minced garlic

I had to sub. 1/2 c. Heavy Whipping Cream and 1 T. Lemon juice as I didn't have the sour cream on hand.

For the whole recipe it was 3500 but I would guess I had half, at the most for about 2,000 calories. Mayo is a ton of calories itself.

Hi gang, hope everyone's having a good Saturday.

MsGoody---I added up your ingredients on my tracker and came up with 1,262 calories, didn't add in lemon and garlic as they are no big deal in the cals. ?? But in any case, let's go w/mine, LOL, because it means you only had about 700 calories from your half of the sauce instead of 2000!

Congrats on dropping another pound! You are really hitting this thing hard and doing great. I really feel a sense of commitment from you, and that's what it takes.

Gobah---Thanks for the nice words for we ladies, and I hope you stick around even when you hit your goal. That can be both easier and harder! For me, I think I'm going to have to stay plugged into this support, even at goal, and besides, it's fun!

Trigger---Yeah, things change on this woe. For me, I can see that in a year, what used to work doesn't always. I think it has everything to do w/weighing a lot less than we used to. At a point, volume is an issue, even if it's low carb. The good news is, I think one can eat a lot more LC cals and maintain as oppose to gain. Losing the weight OTOH, is just more unforgiving.

And boy, sure hear you on the money thing. We've been hit w/all kinds of unexpected expenses this winter. Ouch. And I'm sure Jade is squeezing your wallet too, but so worth it w/her I hope.

Just puttering around today. Made Linda Sue's Texas Sweet Onion Pie to take to the neighbors for dinner tonight---they're grilling up some T-bones, and the onion pie is fab w/steaks, not to mention a good LC option to potatoes. There will also be a salad and artichoke dip---this is my LC conscious neighbor. She doesn't do it as strictly as we do, but she really makes an effort to keep the carbs down. So my challenge will be not to go nuts on calories.

Really going for a good day , as I dropped down to 183 today. One pound from my low, which was 182, and only for one day. SIGH, can't believe how many times I've lost these same four pounds. It's definitely a stall, or a plateau, or whatever you want to call it. But as I've said in the past, once I get past the now and then frustration of it, it makes me even more determine to push that scale off its butt! That scale is going DOWN!

Oh...and Gobah, cool story about the rats, even if they scare me to death. But you're absolutely correct, hope is the ticket to everything we need and want. We won't get it all, but hope will keep the door open to the best efforts we can make, and I too really believe we are rewarded for that.

Thanks Blue! Yea, let's just go with yours You're right I am committed and it's actually quite shocking to me! I always lack the motivation and will power, pretty much right away. I have a different mind set this time so I'm feeling good about it.

I'm out grocery shopping which is a challenge, but I stopped and got a baconator, no bun. That's good stuff! It might just be my food shopping staple.

Have a great weekend on plan!!

Msgoody---I'll be interested to hear how you feel about grocery shopping when been on this woe a good while. It's really changed for me.

At first it was like a minefield of temptations. But then as the months went by and I found the LC stuff I like to eat and make, and as my clothes got baggier and baggier, I started feeling entirely different about it. Now I go in w/the LC things I love on my list, throw them in the cart and feel happy they're coming home w/me, and that I'll be all stocked up for awhile.

These days I see all those temptations at the grocery store and I think, not for me, where's the Boursin cheese? Those products that shoot up my blood sugar and made me fat actually look kind of scary to me these days. Not so tempting anymore.

Of course, there are days this doesn't hold and I want to set up camp in the bakery and eat my way through every shelf, LOL. But these days that's rare. LOVE going to Trader Joe's and seeing what new stuff they might have that will be good for my woe. It's like the whole thing about grocery shopping has really turned around in my mind.

Another NSV!

Blue---I can't wait until the food doesn't call my name anymore. I haven't answered that call yet. What's weird is when I get out of my comfort zone strange things happen. Like: I'm out grocery shopping and I get sooo "hungry" even if I'm not hungry. If that makes sense. Then I think now where can I go find something low carb, before I lose my mind and cave! I also never want to grocery shop hungry. It's such a dangerous thing, grocery shopping. Who knew!?

MsGoody--believe when I say at some point (as long as you stick to LC and go longer) you will think of those carbs as poison.

I did that when shopping. Went down the aisles and said 'that is POISON' and NO ONE should be eating it

it helps!

it takes time on plan but believe me when it kicks in, and you see carby junk for what it is, you wanna shout YIPPEE! I see the light!
