~~LCMW~~ February 2013!

Our new thread!

So how are we all doing with our New Years resolutions? Being sick this month has really stalled my weight loss, but on the plus side, I'm happy at this weight, just would like to be "happier" with less, LOL. Still trying to balance work with taking care of myself. Now if I didn't have to financially make a living, I'd be in great shape!

Kritter, glad you're back from your trip! I've never seen the allure of a smoke filled casino either. Recently we stopped at one of the more local Chumash casinos just to have dinner, we had to walk through a huge smoke filled room filled with people mindlessly shoving money into machines. No one looked like they were having fun. But Las Vegas has all the shows, (you saw a Cirque Di Soleil, those are so much fun) and usually really good food and service.

I know I would have wanted to spend time at Red Rock canyon too, I would love to visit the southwest again someday.

Adi, bet you're glad to be back home. I wonder why the owners haven't picked up their goats yet? People can be very strange.

Glad there is a good support system in place for the families. It's probably more stressful for the families than it is for the young men.

137!!!????!!! Congratulations!!!!!

Going to go pick out some stepping stones for my garden, should be fun.

One down and two to go. I have had a pickup this morning and the other person is supposed to come this afternoon. I am boarding two of them for wahile and that was pre-arranged so it is looking better.

I am thinking that the Rangers to be are not accepting of the fact that this is a very difficult school and don't think it will almost kill them. Parents already are aware of the terrible conditions. And I am happy to be able to have a group to at least let me know when I should send pacakges. They are allowed one box per week and they get it on Fridays and can eat whatever is in it unless it is a banned item. No caffeine of any kind is allowed.
I am so tired. I wish I could take a nap but I have people coming to pick up their goats. Bummer

Thanks for starting the thread Dak! I can't believe it's February already. Too funny, but I always think the same thing - if I didn't have to work every day, I'd have more time for exercising and cooking healthy food. Oh well

I didn't tell you guys about my adventure last night at the airport. I had to walk outside to a different terminal to get to the correct parking garage. Once there, I couldn't find my car! I walked around and around and then realized there are 2 "A" garages - a West and an East. I was looking in East. So I figured I'd give West a try and there it was. It took me about 45 minutes to find it. I thought I was going to have to take a cab home and come back today with DH to drive around looking for it.

I'm having such a great day. Slept really late(still on Pacific time), went food shopping for a few things and now I have short ribs braising and beef stew cooking. Smells wonderful. And I have one of my favorite candles burning - Winter from Bath and Body Works. And now I'm relaxing with a cup of tea, enjoying the quiet LOL.

It's supposed to snow tomorrow so I will be staying in and staying warm. I feel so blessed to have such a warm, comfortable house when the weather is so awful.

Adi, I can't believe they have to provide their own clothing and equipment. You would think that would all be provided.

How long will he be there for?

hey all! Checking in! Had nice bday dinner with DH [his bday]

Adi - I am exhausted just hearing about your trip! will have to look up Ranger school, sounds intimidating! $1200???? Yeesh!

Hi Krit, I didn't even know you were going away! Sorry the fellow travelers weren't into sight seeing, I LOVE that stuff! Glad you are home safe and sound. As many times as I flew into PHL this summer, my siblings and I could never figure that airport out. They would be at "arrivals" and I would follow signs to be picked up there but the gate from Greenville is departures! It was a mess!

Hi Dak!

kritter - I think we all think that everything is provided but no. It is kind of like sending yourself to graduate school. It improves your position so it is more of a personal thing I guess although he has no choice in the matter since all Infantry 2Lt have to do it. Today is is report in day. The first three days are the weed out days. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. There is a timed 12 mile ruck march in there that has to be done. He ran most of the 12 miles in the officer school 12 mile march to get ready for this one. he did it well under the reguired time so he is probably good for that. The time varies depending on if he has to recycle any of the phases but April I think if he goes straight through which I understand is rare.
lilmiss - We don't travel that much but I hate to have to go through an airport that I haven't been to before since it is so confusing. It makes you wonder who came up with those plans for the terminals. They must have a good laugh over it. The Austin airport is the easiest in or out airport I have ever been to. It used to be an Air Force site. Small and to the point but they run a lot of flights out of there but nothing compared to some places. Now Houston is a different story. Add on after add ons. Not a lot of future planning went into that airport.

Well, son isn't in Ranger SChool after all. He now reports Feb 23rd. So IF he were to go straight thorugh without having to recycle I will miss a buck show and a one day milk test that conflicts so I will just sit back and wait.
I hit 140 this monring so I have to have a restrained UD today. Harder than it looks sometimes. Raining and grey today. I will be so glad when my youngest three babies can bnurse off the lambar. Giving them a bottle one at a time sure takes a long time in the morning. Forgot to unplug the pateurizer yesterday but I still fed it to them after cutting it with some whole milk. It is light brown and is actually the beginning of cajeta and smells so good when I take the lid off the machine. I need a timer. It buzzes but doesn't turn itself off. Bummer for me of no memory and I have a note taped to the front door too. And I can't remember going back out and turning it off this morning either. Better stop and buy a gallon of cow milk just in case. I need a keeper.

The 23rd will be here before we know it. Too bad it was a bit of a false start, I imagine it's something you really want to pysch yourself up for.

I have not been feeling great. Yet staying up late researching my latest project on the net. Bad me. I have a short day tomorrow, I like getting home before dark.

Carjeta. mmmmm. One day I'm going to have to make it, it sounds so good.

Dak - the baby goats seem to like it too but I have GOT to remember to unplug the pasteurizer.
I have to go fill the craft mall with goodies and I am delivering a special order of 150 small bars for wedding favors. First time I have done anything like that.
Up to 142.2 this morning. Got to rein in my UD's.

So nice you're sharing your cajeta with your goat babies. Are all the babies on bottles? Is it better not to let them nurse (probably a dumb question, I know) would weaning them be a problem? I know little about livestock.

My weight started creeping up, my pattern this year has been to get down to 153, (insert LIFE) then edge up to 157, get scared, then go back down to 153. What is it about 153? Tomorrow will be another DD. Have to pay greater attention to planning meals.

Dak - I am doing a potato day (did one yesterday too) to get myself under control. I have just been eating too much junk. Got back over 140 so it is time to quit goofing off.
I want friendly babies and having them dam raised makes for wild kids no matter how often I try to handle them they get wild. Not fun for showing and I have my last dam raised kid just freshened and we have to pen her up to handle her. No fun for milking so I just turned her out. I bought her dam and this kid was on her. Dam is gentle as a lamb so she was bottle raised. Plus I feed them pasteurized milk to eliminate the spreading of any diseases that might have slipped in.

It is in the 60's here and a little windy so it is chilly. I just came in from outside chores and I am COLD since I lookied at some pictures from the NE. Oh my. So much snow. I am so glad I am just chilly here. Hope everyone in the snow area is doing OK.
Am doing another potato DD since my potato UD went well yesterday. Got to get my appetitie under control and I think yesterday helped. Had people coming to pick up goats so I just had coffee with some flavored cream at only 15 calories per T for breakfast. It is now lunchtime and I am thinking potatoes sauteed in chicken broth with a little spaghetti sauce sounds good. Had that for dinner last night and it hit the spot.

So Adi, that's why you have such sweet goats, it's all the time that you spend bottle feeding them. But isn't that a lot of your time? How often do they need to eat and how long do you bottle feed?

It is COLD here too. Last night at about 10 our deck already had ice, usually that does not happen until the wee hours of the morning.

I did try potatoes on my last up day, so filling to have a baked potato first thing in the morning. Gave me a nice feeling of being full/satiated.

My seedlings are doing great. A couple of days ago I thinned most all of them down to 1 plant per cell, the next day, I swear, it looked like the plants left exploded in growth.

I had a good DD yesterday, back to 155 again (that was my fictitious drivers license weight for years). I have to keep finding the discipline to get through my DD's.

Lil Miss and Kritter, hopefully you are both warm, snug and safely curled up by the fire sitting out this storm.

LOL Dak at your fictitious drivers license weight So glad PA doest have weight on ours.

I'm doing fine. We only got about 3 inches of snow. Looks beautiful clinging to all of the trees and bushes. I feel so bad for the people in New England who lost power. If we lost power I guess I'd probably try to keep some pots of water boiling on the stove - that would give off some heat. Just reading about all those poor folks makes me want to go make some soup.

I was watching The Barefoot Contessa and she showed a recipe of peas with prosciutto that looked so easy and so delish so I might have to go out and pick up some prosciutto.

Dak - I feed three times a day for the first week and then on to twice a day as soon as they can nurse off the lambar which is a bucket with 10 nipples with plastic tubes that go down into the milk. It is like drinking from a straw so they have to be a stronger nurser to get the milk up the tube. Then they all drink at one time so it is quick. Just had a doe kid with twin bucks for the third year in a row. I am so disappointed.
I haven't planted my seeds yet since I still havent' gotten the seed starter thing from Tractor Supply.
Kriiter - I guess I would be in trouble plenty since we are all electric although wer have a fireplace so we would not freeze. Guess we could roast weanies and marshmallows for food.

Kritter, peas and prosciutto does sound good. If you like the way it turns out, please post the recipe. Glad that you've only gotten a few inches of snow. Watching the news last night, it seemed like the entire east coast was like THIS.

Adi, not as bad as nursing a newborn, DS was glued to me those first months.

Wow Dak. That dog is having a ball. Can't believe he just keeps going and going. Bet he sleeps well tonight.
I made a huge meatloaf since we have so much ground meat in the freezer and I can't have any today since I am doing a potato day. I cooked it in my big old cast iron skillet. Looking forward to lunch tomorrow though.

Dak, that dog was hilarious. I LOL the entire time. His expression is pure joy

The peas turned out great! I forgot I had 3 lbs of uncured bacon in the fridge so I used that instead of prosciutto.

I cooked 1 lb bacon in a frying pan until it was crispy. Then I drained most of the fat and added water and a couple of Rapunzel vegan boullion cubes, or you could use chicken broth which is what I think Ina used. I simmered this until it reduced quite a bit, making sure to scrape up all the good brown bits from the bacon.

In another pan, I smooshed a whole garlic clove and sauteed it in olive oil. Then I added a small chopped onion to that and sauteed until the onions were transluscent. Then remove the garlic. Then I added a bag of frozen peas and let cook a bit.

Then I added the peas and onions to the reduced broth and let cook some more until the liquid was mostly gone. I didn't want the peas to cook in the broth for too long because they'd get mushy. When most of the liquid was gone, I stirred in the bacon.

Hi All!

Adi - your avi is STUNNING! You look amazing!

No snow here. Got bad news about my dad on Monday evening and so have been really pretty blue. But, we are in a wait and see and hope the cardiologist can find a solution. Dad still home but at risk for stroke etc. I think we all just felt, we were finally able to breathe and none of us could bare to hear anything negative.

I am book fair co chair with two other ladies. One of them seems to think she is in charge. That's fine I really don't care, but she now has a job and is unable to do many of the things we would all do together and so she is assigning stuff. The other lady was supposed to do a job back in the fall for the book fair and never did it. Guess who they "gave" it to? I get all the stuff no one else wants apparently. Anyhow, I worked my tail off on it all week and, if I do say so myself, I was incredible. I am hoping my result is something the school will use for years to come.

In other news, my diet stinks. I try to LC and then DH makes me gluten free pasta for dinner. He KNOWS I am trying to LC, I do not get it. Been truly fantasizing about JUDDD bc I have been drinking one cup of coffee in the am, and then not eating until dinner! SO, why not actually do some DDs?

Trying to get my act together.

Glad to hear you are all safe and sound!

Ice in CA Dak? Wow!

Adi, those goats are lucky to have you!

MMMM Krit, that dish sounds delish!

lilmiss - so sorry you have bad news about your Dad. Maybe it will work out.
Thanks about my new picture. I am just shrinking away. No complainst about that though.
And I bet you did a fantastic job on the book fair. I think it is so hard to work with other people on a project. I would almost rather do the whole thing by myslef sometimes.
I will have to tell my goats that. I don't think they realize how much work I do for them. Had twin bucks born today. So disappointed. That doe has never had anything but bucks and she is getting old.
Sounds like you are almost doing DD's already. I did a higher calorie DD today with potatoes so we shall see what the scale says in the morning.
Dak - Had to go watch the dog playing in the snow again. Love that video.
kritter - Bacon sounds so good but I am low fatting to see if I can drop a little more.

lilmiss - I wanted girls. This doe has NEVER had a daughter.
I just don't really like highfat and the potato hack only works if you do it lowfat. But it does work. After a few days I will be back to normal food but bacon still probably isn't on my list since I would eat the whole pound in one sitting. Not a wise use of my calories. I am getting real picky about how I spend my calories so I am thinking that is a good thing. I think before I eat. Do I really want to spend x amount of calories on that? Most of the time the answer is no.

Potato day does sound good. I want to get like you again, Adi, being more picky about my calories.

Glad the storm is not in your area, Lil Miss & Kritter. Kritter, recipe sounds good, guess you can tell I'm not doing vegan right now, LOL.

If you all can stand another animal video,THIS is pretty funny, especially when they're running straight at the camera.

Got some weedwhacking and mowing in today, plus, fed my veggies & pulled some weeds. Great day in the garden.

Dak - those could have been my chickens. They have the same kind of fence and gate as I do. Course mine would have attacked me if I had food and stood there. They all (30) of them greet me at the gate even if their feeder is full. Silly chickens. I have about 5 that think they are setting now so I just leave them alone. Maybe one of them will hatch out some really crossbred baby chicks. We don't need that many eggs a day so I will give them some time to act like normal hens.
I did a potato DD yesterday but sis not stick to DD calories just to see. I am 138.2 this morning and I had well over 1000 potato calories. Only other thing I had was some flavored stuff in my coffee at 15 calories per T. Today is an UD but I am going to try another potato day. I already have gold potatoes boiled and in the frig and sliced ones cooked in tomato juice in the frig. Thinking about skipping breakfast or having oat bran. Also plan on a small taste of the meatlaof I made yesterday. I made it from memory so would like to see what I ended up with. DH will eat anything so he isn't a good source for information.
It is raining here so I will have to delay chores for a bit until it slacks off.
Lilmiss - try a 3 day potato hack. Can't hurt anything. The first few times I tried it I was starving afgter breakfast so now I don't eat potatoes first thing in the morning aND IT is working much better. Oat bran seems to do well since it is low calorie and low fat. I have eaten eggs for B and then potatoes the rest of the day and that works too but I am looking for faster this round. This will be my 4th potato day in a row. Although I also had fatfree yogurt on my last potato UD it didn't seem to hurt the weightloss.

Good Monday Morning all. I was 139.6 this morning and I am going to do an higher calorie DD with just potatoes today and see. If I can do potato DD's and my regular UD's for maintenance I would love that. Raining again this morning. Got my chores done and off to work. I had a small taste of my meatloaf yesterday and it was very good. Since our ground meat is so lean I think I need to add some fat the next time I make it. Guess I could layer the top with BACON.
Have a great day.

What a nice DD drop! How are you eating your DD potatoes?

Great day in garden, weeded my berries and cut off last years canes that had fruited. Beautiful day in the sun.

Dak - plain boiled on DD's. I did a potato day UD yesterday (and dropped on the scale) and I had potatoes cooked in tomato juice, plain boiled, baked with lowfat cottage cheese and salsa and then I fried some for dinner with a t of coconut oil in each little batch cooked in a very small skillet with the lid on. With a little ketchup I thought I was in heaven. I might even try the boiled with some lowfat sour cream adn salsa for lunch. I have all of that with me at work. Today is an experiment for a DD with higher calories just to see if I can maintain by doing that.
I am working with a pitiful little buck kid. One of my goats had twin bucks while we were in GA and she was a lousy mother. I have both on a bottle and one is doing great but the other one is not. He has trouble walking and nurses but weakly. Saturday night he managed to wedge himselr between the water bucket and the fence instead of staying inside his igloo where it was dry. He was soaked and cold. I fed him hot milk and put him in the milkroom under a heat lamp and he perked up so I left both of them in the milkroom last night and I am glad I did since it rained again. If he survives I may just have DH castrate him and keep him for a pet. I have worked so long with him I am kind of attached. Then he had scours last night so I had to give him the pink piggie medi. now he has pink lips and seems to be doing alright today. He is walking around as best he can.
I am also freezing today. I cannot get warm. Good sign for weightloss I think. Plus my arms and waist have the prune looking skin which means fat loss. My skin had tightened up and was looking fine but I don't mind since I know it will look normal in a few months again. I cannot believe I am 4 pounds from my pre DS weight from 23 years ago. I just have to see 135 on the scale once and then I can die happy.
