Hope you all had a great weekend! Hubby and I helped a friend by driving her 8 hours each way to pick up her van that had broken down in the middle of nowhere and has been at a repair shop there forever. With a storm system coming in today we decided to leave Friday night and drive straight through. Got home late yesterday afternoon, but man does that take a lot out of you! Slept in a bit today and then hubby and I worked on our room most of the day... ugh... it was nice to have his help organizing his stuff, but I'm so ready for bed! Curious to see what the scale will say in the morning... I've stayed off it for a few days, but have been doing really well. Would be nice if I were rewarded for that! lol We'll see!

Sounds very reasonable and pretty darned neat, especially for kiddos!

And when I feel really good about those "hidden" parts of the house that are all mine, I don't so much feel the need to eat treats to make myself feel good. So I think I eat to take care of myself, as a sort of "fix-all" self-care treatment.
That makes a lot of sense, Lynne! The getting dressed to the shoes, shining sink, all of the flylady 'stuff' does, too. I've played with flylady quite a few times, but never got much further than her first few baby steps... hmmmm... now might be a good time to let her flood my inbox again! lol

Deb, I'm really impressed with your running! I did the couch to 5k program, loved it really, but stopped after completing it. It's like I had to finish it, cause I'm stubborn like that lol, but then didn't care so much after... if I do it again I think I'll create a longer term goal than just finishing the 9 wk program!

Good to *see* you again, Melanie!

Danielle... sorry you had to send DS back.. it's so tough How do you feel about thrift store shopping? You may be able to find a few things for virtually no money to spruce up your wardrobe? Sounds like fun to me!

Good morning all! SO far I am not having the best Monday. It has to turn around, right???

Weekend was good. Friday had a DD that turned MD! I have the HARDEST times with Friday DD's! I do fine almost any other day but Friday is almost always over 1000c! Suggestions??? Saturday was a good Up Day and Yesterday was a perfect DD! Right at 700c! Pefect for me!

D - stinks that DS had to go back. WHen do classes start for him? Here at KU they don't start for another 2 weeks!

Lynne - cookies for those guys indeed. I can say, when I was in college we quickly realized how easy almost all doors could be broke into! We broke into our friends appartments all the time. So much so that now, I am ANAL about deadbolts. I mean, I am no criminal and if I could easily break into place....it was really too easy to do!

Tami- How are you girl? Getting back in the swing of things? You are so good to your friend. I am sure she was very grateful for the help!

G'morning

Yes, Monica it will turn around, though it is Monday... probably can't expect too much! lol Sorry you're struggling with Friday DD's! We had the same experience with breaking into each other's apartments, though we used the back sliding glass doors. So easy it's scary!

I am back in the swing of things... doing really well with food and trying to work in as much activity, if not formal exercise, as possible. I was disappointed to step on the scale this morning to no change whatsoever. 211, so even a pound up from what I guessed siggy weight was starting this challenge... it's read 211 the last several times I've stepped on the darned thing. Ugh. Going to go back to daily weighing and trying to up water. I'm struggling with that. I want warm coffee and not much else. Supposed caffeine could be an issue too? We'll see I guess... more water, less coffee...

Thanks for the hugs, ladies! On top of feeling just sad about having to let him go, TOM showed up 4 days early.. UGH!

Monica~ DS starts Wednesday. My DD18 who's in community college starts the 14th. DD16 started today. SO weird that I don't have to worry about any of that anymore for myself

Tami~ I think I'm gonna have to consider thrift store shopping..not sure what I'll find I've never done it before! I'm still in big girl sizes so not sure if there's really anything out there for me, but i should go look and see! You are a great friend to do all that for your friend!
I hope you gave that scale a kick...it's being mean! Maybe you are due for a whooshie if it's weighed ya that for a few days now?? I hope so you deserve it!!

So, TOM is kicking my behind big time.. I was out like a light last night at around 7:30.. totally missed watching The Biggest Loser.. good thing DH recorded it for me..the man gets a gold star! Feeling extremely strange this morning..I slept in until 10am and I feel like I've been drugged for lack of a better way to describe... I feel like I can't quite wake up all the way, my skin feels tingly and when I'm touching things it feels like I'm touching them through gloves or something, like I'm not "really" touching them.. and I am dizzy dizzy dizzy.. Fun times over here!!! Oh, and lets not forget that it's a DD today and I am FROZEN! My feet and hands are like ice cubes!

Good morning everyone!!

Deb, what is a meat draw? I've never heard of it.

Tami, I agree with everyone else, what a great friend you are!!

About the water: I can't stand the sight of water right now. I'm drinking half-strength chicken bullion - twice as much water as it calls for. I like drinking coffee, too, but I use a lot of half and half (fat free half and half just doesn't do it for me) and I can't stand using up more than 200 calories on beverages!

I have a broomstick in my sliding glass door, so that's hopefully doing the trick.

Monica, About Friday DDs: could it be that you want a TREAT after your hard work week? If so, maybe those chocolate protein shakes you used to drink would a) seem like a treat; and b) the glutamate would help curb any stray cravings.

Danielle, sorry you're so cold on DDs. I read about a trick I'm going to try, which is putting a little cayenne in a hot drink to make you warmer. I'll let you know how it goes!

Maybe you slept so much because you were fighting off a sickness of some sort. That happens to me, too.

Me... it's Gavin's first day back at school after the holidays, and it's kind of a relief to have a break but there's a lot of stuff to catch up on!

I've been doing very gentle DDs (1000 cal), and keeping UDs to 2000 cals, and the pants are loosening up again already. Thank goodness.

Back to work for me! Have a great day!

Lynne

Awe, Danielle... what a cruddy day... hope you're feeling better today!

Thanks for the kudos on being a good friend... I really do try. This one is pushing me to my limits, but all I can control is that I did the right thing and move on.

Lynne, adding extra water to chicken broth is a good strategy. I think I'll try that. I'm actually thinking of doing a very low cal basically fast for a few days. It's counter intuitive to what I normally do, but I'm really tired of being in the 200's! I'm thinking water, coffee (I use the SF non-dairy creamer, so not too bad on cals), chicken broth, and maybe eggs if I need them? I don't know... just know that what I am doing isn't working though it seems like it should be! I'm sure Gavin was excited to get back to school. Enjoy the break

Good morning all! Yesterday ended up around 800c. I am calling that a success. My bloodsugar was a bit unstable so I had to eat a protein granola bar. That was an extra 190c, but very necessary!

G'morning Monica & all

Yesterday, after much thought, I went back to fasting throughout the day and having a reasonable dinner. For whatever reason that really works well for me, but I had been listening to a trainer friend of mine who always recommends eating multiple meals a day, making sure you have breakfast to get your metabolism started, etc. That's what I've been doing since Thanksgiving and I'm just not seeing the results I want to see for such hard work and even bounced up a bit more yesterday morning. Her fear is that I'll have to eat this way forever or risk gain, but that hasn't been my experience in the past and I've never been a breakfast person, so even if I have to eat this way forever it's really ok. That said, I was down several pounds overnight, but am still at 209, a pound over siggy weight. Here's hoping the trend continues and I can finally start moving toward & through that 200 barrier!

Good luck Tami. If it works, go with it. .

Today is one week in to Atkins and I have officially lost 7 lbs!!!!! I am finding that its al little crazy that for the past two days I haven't been real hungry and just been eating when hungry. The way I have been eating reminds me of Judd or what I think it might be.

Yesterday. Shake. Water and then a piece of pizza bake and the mini cheesecake last night. I know I am in deep ketosis and burning my own fat so yay... But for being the first week into it I am usually so hungry. Any thoughts?

Morning ladies!

Tami, I say do whatever makes you feel good. I realized that trainers do not know everything despite their well meaning Doing JUDDD and experiencing the benefits of DD's and how my body appreciates the break from food, I'd say your body is doing much the same and is rewarding you for being kind to it Soon we'll be celebrating when you hit that 199!!

Melanie, you go girl go!!! I always get so confused with what is supposed to be done with low carb eating.... I always ate only when hungry but then I read somewhere (DANDR book, maybe?) to always eat regardless of hunger, to keep metabolism burning... so confusing Personally I'd just run with whatever seems to be working and when it stops, tweak it to make it work again. But then again, I'm a rebel and that's prolly why lc eating doesnt work for me!

I'm feeling better today...despite TOM and that freakin scale!

Took the nasty mean new scale back to the store...I told them it was broken

Melanie, it usually only takes me a few days to get into ketosis and then the hunger fades dramatically. I think you're right on track! Huge congrats on the 7 pound loss!

LOL Danielle! So glad you're feeling better! Love that you kicked that nasty scale to the curb! Now we can hold that up as an example to all the scales we yell at and threaten in the future!

OH, and you're right, Danielle. I've always said that my body likes to do it's own version of JUDD rotations. I just need to remember to listen to it and follow along. It's probably closer to intermittent fasting, but I definitely do have higher calorie days when my body's asking for it. Who knows. Just hoping to get this scale moving again!!!

By the way, I thought this theory was DEAD. It has been proven over and over again that eating is NOT required to get metabolism started! BS On that one! You should do what you feel is best.

Good afternoon, everyone!!

Monica, 800 calories is a great DD when you've got blood sugar issues. You're a trooper. We're getting back into the swing of things.

Melanie, wow on 7 pounds!! Maybe you're not too hungry because your body wants a little break and is enjoying eating lightly? That happened to me after all the holiday badness. I think that's what normal people experience, anyway. Whaddya know, we might be normal after all.

Tami, I'm with Danielle on this one - you know yourself best. You tried it the trainer's way, and it didn't work for you. I think you might be fast-fiving now, right? That's how I got hooked into intermittent fasting last year, too, and I lost 35 pounds on that first challenge. Come on 199!!

Danielle, we need pictures of your scale with its sad little "nobody loves me" face, in the box, going back to the store...so we can show them to OUR scales when they misbehave. "You better straighten up or YOU could go back to the store, too! I don't care how old and rusty you are or that you came from Goodwill!! I'm taking you back!!"

Me... I'm not officially weighing (nor changing siggy) until next week, but the scale said 166 last UD morning, and 165 this morning. So it's moving in the right direction. DDs and UDs are going well, nothing to report there.

Yay for SF hot chocolate on this cold, blustery day....

Hey, BTW I took my son to the ear, nose, throat doc this morning for a chronic sinus infection, and the doc said there's a study out recently that probiotics will help stop sinus infections from recurring.

I was trying to figure out if you could just EAT the yogurt, or if you have to SNORT it to get it into your sinuses. The doc said he was in favor of just eating it, ewwww.

And double YAY to the vision of blackberry yogurt dribbling out your nose!!

Great day everyone!! I'm back to work!!

Lynne

Me normal.... I don't know about that one. But your theory sounds pretty good.

Ooh sf hot chocalate sounds good. I will have to look for it when I go grocery shopping. And Eww on snorting the yogurt. What a picture.

Hahahahaha Lynne!!! Thank goodness he said eat it, eh? Can you imagine? Good to know though, my DS has chronic issues with his nose, has for years.. Thanks for sharing!

Maaaaan, wish I'd have had the forethought to do something silly with my scale and pictures before I took it back. Darnit!

I still haven't decided if the one I have is truly accurate or not.. but for now it'll do I guess...

Lynne~that is fabulous that the scale is cooperating with you!! I could use some hot cocoa today, I am FREEZING..must be a DD!!!

Monica~I was practically dancing a jig when I tossed that scale onto the counter could not wait to get rid of that thing! DH keeps suggesting all these fancy schmancy scales with all these buttons and cool gadgety things they're supposed to do...I just stare at him and say, you really want me to have to worry about my fat% and water% and god-knows-what-else when I am having a total neurotic breakdown over just trying to get my weight logged every day??????????????? Really!!!????????????????? He hasn't brought it up again

LOL @ snorting yogurt, Lynne! So glad your son doesn't have to go that route! LOL Also glad the scale is moving! How exciting!

Yes, fast fiving is pretty darned close.... maybe I should sneak over to their part of the forum occasionally? Maybe tomorrow

Monica, I agree completely on that theory being dead or at least it should be. She makes some sense, but yeah... not working for me!

Danielle, what kind was the scale you took back? I keep thinking I want one of the Eatsmart scales, but I'm so afraid of it weighing me heavier that I keep on keeping on with my old fashioned dial type Health-o-Meter that I have to bang on the floor before using each time. lol As long as the general trend is down it's good enough, I guess, but the banging is annoying! lol

Lynne - I think you should SNORT the yogurt and see what it does...just for fun, maybe just a little??? LOLOLOLOLOL

Melanie - how goes it girl? Had anything yummy lately?

Danielle - MEN think they are so smart, THEY ARE NOT!

Tami - you do what works for you! That is all anyone should/can do!

Yesterday was a good controlled up day! That's a good step right there. Today, thus far, DD is going well! It's only 11:15 a.m., so that could change in minutes! I'll take this for now though

Hey Zipp. Nothing to exciting here. I've just been eating when hungry. Its working pretty well.

Had a good day. Had to go grocery shopping. Doing laundry and getting everything ready for this weekend. I will be armed with Atkins friendly food, a shake, veggies and Caesar salad. Tomorrow night my group is getting pizza for dinner and i wanted to be armed with something else.

My rings are spinning tonight, so that means no bloat. Hoping to see a good number tomorrow.

Monica, I'm glad it's Friday too! It has been a ridiculously looonnnnnnggg week.

Melanie~ have a great weekend! I love when my rings spin

Tami~ the scale I took back was an iHealth. It's supposed to sync with use of the iPad.. nice concept if I didn't have to get on it 50 million times to try for at least 2 consistant numbers....which I NEVER got I actually ordered an eatsmart one yesterday, should be here some time next week..crossing my fingers it won't way me cray-cray like the other one
My old one I've had since 2001 It doesnt take batteries, nuthin...it is the weirdest thing!

Please let me know how you like the eatsmart scale, Danielle! No more cray cray scales!

Melanie, sounds like you're doing so well! Great job!

I did quite a bit of reading yesterday and Fast 5 requires you to give up coffee & creamer from what I can tell... or at least the creamer... they're basic rule is to allow any calorie free drinks and even my sugar free, non dairy, fake creamer has 20 cals a Tbsp and I have probably 6T throughout the day usually . So not really doing Fast 5, and not sure how strict the other IF plans are, but going to stick with this for now. I'm not hungry at all during the day, so it's actually pretty freeing and I have tons of energy right now. Time will tell if that will last, but for now at least I feel really really good! Been organizing and cleaning like a fool... figure I better make use of the energy before it disappears, just in case!

Yes! Happy Friday! Hope you all have a great weekend!

Good morning, everyone!!

Tami, I did fast five "incorrectly", using 10 Tbsp of half and half in my coffee every day outside my "eating window", and it still worked just fine for me. The way I did it, I just ate one regular-sized lc meal after 5 pm, then some sunflower seeds in the shell later on in the evening (before 10) as a tv snack.

Monica, this has been a long, ridiculous week for me, too. I'm glad it's pretty much coming to a close now, but miles to go before I sleep unfortunately.

Melanie, I'm picturing you armed for a food fight on pizza night now. Spinning rings to complete the picture.

Danielle, I have the old rusty no-batteries variety of scale myself. I've never even heard of the ones you mentioned, so no help here, but you've got a good point about "simple and reliable" vs. "bells and whistles". Life is crazy enough, right?

And for what it's worth, I strictly forbid my scale to talk to my other appliances, iPad included, refrigerator certainly. I'm afraid they'll gang up on me and hide the ice cream.

Me... yesterday's DD didn't go all that well - more of a MD. I didn't feel too bad about it; I'm just trying to hang in there. I've been walking miles a day lately, very restless, so I figure that will compensate somewhat and not to worry. Right? Unless it becomes a habit, of course.

Still sleeping well, so that's a miracle!

Back to work for me, have a great weekend everybody!!

Lynne

Glad to hear that, Lynne! That's pretty much exactly what I'm doing... water & coffee during the day and one regular low carb meal at night, sometimes followed by a coconut oil/peanut butter snack. I could easily see myself eating this way forever, with the occasional breakfast/lunch out with others, of course. But really, it's so simple. I'm digging it so far!

Sorry to hear you struggled a bit with your DD yesterday, but huge kudos on the walking!

Ugh, it took me a couple weeks to get back to good DD's.. I really did start to panic thinking that maybe JUDDD wasn't going to work for me anymore..
Thankfully this last week I had really good ones and the scale started to move again in the right direction.. Lordy!

How's everyone doing so far for the weekend?
