Skaters Challenge - skate in 2013!

This challenge is for everyone who roller skates or ice skates, or wants to be able to do it!

Let's motivate each other to lose weight, and get in shape so we can skate!
WE CAN DO IT!!!!!! :jumpjoy:

How about some intros?

I'll start it off. My name is Gail, I'm 58 years old, and a volunteer Special Olympics roller skating coach. Unfortunately, due to being very overweight, I don't have enough endurance to skate more than a few minutes at a time. I want to be able to skate with my kids for an entire session again.

I have 2 special needs autistic children - Diane 26 and Alexander 15 who participate in Special Olympics roller skating and ice skating. Both of them are far beyond me in ability, and I'm so proud of them. They motivate me to continue skating.

Links to them in recent competitions, where they won gold!

Yay! A skate thread! Those two kids put my skating skills to shame! It's an achievement for me to stay off my bum for more than 5 minutes at a time. lol Sadly there aren't any decent places to skate near me and after getting kicked out of a church parking lot for practicing with my roller blades there I've given up the idea of using them to exercise. There's a 3 mile bike/roller trail a couple hours from me though so my goal is to lose some weight and get fit enough to go skate that this summer!

HaHa! I've finally found the skaters! Yay!

You know what, I actually have a pair of roller skates. I was looking for my duck boots and I found them. I don't think I'll be able to get onto a skateboard until Spring but if I can find a nearby roller rink, I will definitely dust off the old skates!

I can't wait to be able to skate regularly again! I skated only about 30 minutes last Saturday, about 5 minutes at a time.

Stayed pretty much on plan except for when my autistic son made his first batch of brownies Sunday night, and insisted I have a couple. Should have refused, but just couldn't do it. Got back on track today.

Breakfast - microwaved "over easy" type eggs w/melted cheddar cheese.

Lunch - 4 baked chicken thighs

Dinner - pulled pork (from crockpot) with onion and mushrooms, some salsa.

Late night - 2 small glasses dry white wine, 4 ounces kosher salami (1g carb per ounce)

About 25 g carbs today - not too bad.

How did everyone else do?

I have ice skated off and on with my girls but I've recently started skating more consistently. Just worked up my nerve to try a waltz jump...not very pretty at all but I actually jumped. I want to take lessons but I hate the rentals at our rink so I've been postponing until I buy some for myself. I own roller skates, but not ice skates :( one of my goals this year has been to buy some skates and start taking lessons so maybe I will join you and you all can motivate me to actually buy some!

Oh I wish I could still go to our roller rink! I used to have my birthday parties there when I was younger! Now though it's just a hook up spot for teenagers. I guess that's what happens in a small town when that's the only option for entertainment. lol I have put on my roller blades and practiced wobbling around my living room. I still haven't gotten the hang of stopping. lol
