Susan, thank you for the compliment.

Thanks for everybody's input on defining the behavior that makes us need this support. Sounds like we have similarities. Not sure what to write about yesterday.

The facts:
I stayed NK. I was actually under my NK calories so completely on plan there.
It was a scheduled DD for JUDDD. When I reached my calorie limit in the evening, I just kept on going until I reached my NK limit.

The feeling: like giving up, throwing in the towel, I can't do these DDs, I need to eat more, I'm going to eat more, I wasn't really hungry, what is wrong with me. It felt like a binge even though it was within the limits of one WOE. I'm especially sad because I actually had a couple good DDs since the holidays and thought the bad days were over. Somehow my feeling of self discipline is tied up in conquering DDs.

So, I wonder, would an objective person define a binge by how rational the eating,
or by how much is eaten?

For me it seems to be a little of both. In the past I had planned binges. The pressure needed to be released and I knewI will be alone in the house so I would go to the supermarket and stock up on ice cream frozen pizza garlic bread etc. two of everything sometimes. Then I'd go back home and eat it all. I still had that same feeling of urgency but I was able to stave off the binge long enough to pick up my favorite forms of hell

Other times it would hit me and I would eat whatever was available. Either way large quantities were eaten and a sense of urgency

The Mayo clinic defines it as eating unusually large quantities of food AND a compulsion to do so.

At least I'm in Ketosis - I expect better results tomorrow.

A friend of mine had the lab band surgery and she said the other day: I miss eating. I miss that too, just sitting on the couch at 9PM munching pretzels and chips and the list goes on and on and on. Bad habits...
Oops don't know how I miscounted, but I am happy to count another day!

I agree with you I miss the eating sometimes, but not the real binges and the consequences like reflux and bloating.

I think sometimes that I become so rigid in following my "plan" that any perceived deviance makes me feel like I have blown it for the day, which leads to overeating or binging. Rarely am I ever hungry when I binge.

I'm guilty of the all or nothing mentality too Jeannie. One slip and there went the whole day. I think I've gotten better with that but when eating on plan I do remain very strict... I still struggle with that...

I hear you Invictus, I have to keep my food choices very simple, otherwise I will overeat. I have made some of the casseroles and quiche recipes found here and I can't stop at a serving Overall sounds like you had a good low carb day

Susan

Invictus 12 may not be a problem if you're under your carb count. I don't know what a cheesecake cloud is but my creamy spaghettini squash has lots of cream cheese in it so there is probably very little difference between the two

Adoug-

Jeanie- so thankful you started this challenge

Day 10 on tap for me. It's Sunday so I will be cooking for the week. Plan on making that crockpot lasagna again and I'm going to try the cauliflower crust pizza.

Working on another DD here. Today is my day to drop them another 100cal. So far it has been a good day with enough left to have a decent dinner. It is after that dinner that I usually get into trouble. Have broth thawing for evening. Now if I could only do somehting about my brain. Oh yeah, got some good aminos for that.

Great job everyone staying on track!

Today went well. I'm a bit disappointed by the scale as I have not binged. When I did Atkins for the first time in 2001 i dropped 20 in the first week and from there 2p every day for about another week and then pretty much every day a pound. Now its just dragging. It may be as TOM is nearing but still.

I cut out the Avocado, although Induction allows 1/2 - but it says may slow down weight loss. Also, the weirdest thing, in the morning my KETO sticks are showing no trace - in the evening they purple.

Did some workout today and walked. Maybe that helps. I'm not giving up!

Everyone stay strong!!

I am joining y'all. I'm on day 8/30 as well, haven't binged. Tonight I craved Baskin Robbins peanut butter and chocolate ice cream really bad! I am glad we didn't have any in the house.

A binge for me is like a switch too, and mindless stuffing of my face until l am finally satisfied. So how to turn OFF the switch-or better yet, disable it for good!

Glad everyone had a successful day yesterdsy

Texas- turning off the switch that is the question. Never having the switch flipped in the first place is the ultimate goal

I recently read The Diet Cure. As a result I have started taking some supplements. I am finding them helpful- I think.

The Diet Cure is what got me started on aminos. What a difference they make. I don't have to take them all the time any more. But when I have certain symptoms, they really do the job.

Good to see so many successes. One day (or hour) at a time. Building on what we have achieved, learning from our mistakes, we will get there.

If I am having a hard time coping with physical/emotional pain, I take DLPA. This is the most helpful to me with regards to binging.
I've started using L-tryptophan lately to promote better sleep.

Also in my cupboard, but not currently using.
L-tyrosine - energy/caffeine replacement.
GABA - calming
L-glutamine - HElps some with carb cravings. I never could recognize a carb craving until it was too late. Also never was able to just take things on a schedule.
Melatona - Also tried for sleep. It knocked me out so quickly I felt like I was falling, but then would wake four hours later. Did not like the feeling. Lots of people swear by it though.
There are lots of others that I tried and discontued because they didn't fit my needs.

Susan, there is a diet cure website that may be worth looking at. There is a questionnaire that helps pinpoint your neurotransmitter deficit (perhaps). The book goes into detail about theses issues a possible supplements to assist in righting the brain chemistry.

I take
Glutamine for carb cravings
GABA for anxiety (which I think may be a component of my binge behavior)
5htp for mood/sleep
Melatonin for sleep
