Hang in there Jeannie. Have you considered any supplements? Edgy is a good way to describe that anxious feeling I get that sets off a feeding frenzy
I'm taking GABA which is supposed to help with anxiety. I can't say for sure since it has only been six full days but I have not felt that urge/edge in nearly a week. Might be a placebo or maybe it really is a piece to the puzzle. Time will tell![]() |

Garden, I'm in the same boat..... I went overboard last night. I was hungry & ate. then I got full and still continued to eat. why so I ignore the physical reality & keep on killing myself?
I think I'd like to learn more about the various supplements that might help... back to day 1 for me. (Oh well...) |

Stay strong- Jeanie!
Susan- have you ever considered JUDD? I see you eat pretty low calories every day maybe that's why in the evening your body is crying for more foods. Just a thought... Kaarren- sorry to hear you went over-board ![]() Invictus- "TOM around the corner" is a most difficult time to stay strong for me as well. I am eating lots of wild salmon this time. I am approaching PMS and trying to stay strong. Staying away from trigger foods (nuts, yogurt, fruits and honey). I have been allowing myself to eat more carbs from veggies. Some days up to 50 gr (gross). |

Morning ladies-just lurking around until I get clearance from the doc on the 8th to diet & exercise again. I have just finished 2 rounds of prednisone-this stuff turns me into a food munching maniac.
Thankfully that's my only side effect of it-I am so glad I don't get the swollen moon face. I need to stock up on some pp and am going to make some soup. |

Day 1 :)
Hello friends!
Its so nice to come back to this thread and see everyone having success ! The key is not to see failure from one day -- especially if you had 1-3 days of not bingeing! CONGRATS!!! Move on ..and make the next time 4 days ..the next 5 days etc. I am really trying to get all the cookies/chocolates out of the house. But its really hard with my family who wants them (and they are not overweight) . Anyways heres to Day 1! I will touch base tonight! |

Yesterday good DD (JUDDD). No 4
m food frenzy and nothing to eat after dinner, my two major cliffs. A major coup. A little trouble getting to sleep on an empty stomach and woke up middle of the night, but went back to sleep so AOK. |

Day 7
Hi everyone
Good day today but I did notice when I got home from the gym I was feeling tired and for lack of a better word needy. I wanted to be enveloped in comfort and those stupid Christmas cookies are still sitting in the kitchen. My usual MO would be to comfort myself with the cookies and then what ever else appealed to me until I collapse. I did not eat a cookie I had coffee and took my supplements and I'm waiting patiently for dinner!Funny how I can recognize those feelings now. I think I just chose to ignore them before. I'm not saying it was easy and I'm still "new" to the commitment this time around. If it were easy I wouldn't be back her after regaining my lost weight 3 times!! So another day down. One day at a time...

Day 5
Ugh so yesterday I had a llaarrrggee handful nuts - hm and the scale reflected it this morning.
Its not really a binge as I stayed within carbs, but im trying to do induction, so nuts, it is def. a trigger food. Biochic - great job not giving it to your cravings. Woohoo Angie1 - I understand with the cookies. I always have some sugar free choc in the house and yummy atkin bars. They make a cinamon apple square thats really good. So when friends come I make coffee and get a little desert place, unwrap the square and present it. No complaints so far ;-) Sometimes If I have guests, I buy just enough cake and then wrap the rest for them to take home. Otherwise I binge. Tobelowcarber - I have been looking into JUDDD. I'm not sure it sounds to good to be true ;-) Kaarren - hang in there. Off to a new start Garden - I hear that. Isnt that always how it starts. Thats me with just a handful of nuts which probably equals 4 cups lol aka 25 carbs+ Ok everyone - stay strong - we can do this!!! “You can't help someone get up a hill without getting closer to the top yourself.” (Gen. Schwartzkopf) 05 lbs gone: 276 12/29/2012 10 lbs gone: 271 15 lbs gone: 266 20 lbs gone: 261 2013 GOALS be more grateful lose weight get thryroid checked do C25K do a Fitness Class try Yoga - 01/02/2013 emailed Instructor go to the Theater go to Jazz/Blues event get my house sold more to come.... Cici - I always try to save a little bit of calories for before bed (50-100 of protein or fat).. sleeping on an empty stomach is hard for me too!
Susan - I completely understand with the eating when you are not even hungry. I am the same way! Most of my binges happen when I am just bored and on the computer -- it really is a habit which will be overcome in 2013 Lisa, Jeanie - Congrats on another day, you ladies are doing great!!! rocking this challenge!Invictus - Nuts are a bigg trigger food for me as well, its so hard to just eat a handful. I always pre-package my nuts in sandwich bags (100 calorie bags) so that I avoid the "handfuls" lol Day 1/30 complete for me .. woohoo!! First week is always the hardest ..looking to get through 7 days and then smooth sailing (hopefully lol)Keep it up everyone!!! loving this challenge!

Made some fat bombs and cream cheese clouds yesterday. Perfectly okay for my woe. However, in the process of tasting and testing I did eat more of them than usual. Nipped it in the bud by eating dinner early. Still under my calories for the day and ate a bit more in the evening.
Not sure if any of you binge to self-medicate, but DLPA (DL-phenylalanine) really helps with both emotional pain and the mental side of dealing with physical pain. It both calms and energizes and helps one cope. RE: JUDDD - There are some contraindications for JUDDDing (or any fasting) if you are at the level of an eating disorder. Basically you would be eating very low calories (<500 in most cases) every other day which can be a trigger in itself for ED thinking/behavior. However, if you can get through a low cal day thinking "I can eat that tomorrow" and not go off the deep end, it can be a very healthy woe. Curious: Just wondering how you all define a binge. For me it is when the mental switch flips and there is no "off" switch. That is very different for me than just overeating or indulging in something off plan. It can be triggered by expectations that I feel unable to accomplish, whether generated by myself or others. It can also be triggered by specific foods that I am allergic to.

Day 5/30
Back on plan for ten days now woo hoo! Cici My binge MO goes something like this- I am doing very well eating low carb feeling all cocky and just knowing that this time I will make it, then I start to get cravings or urges for sweets especially ice cream and chocolate peanuts and the like. I try distraction, exercise, reading over my motivational note cards that I have made and things like that, these strategies ninety nine percent of the time only delay the binge, as it seems like once that thought of binging enters my mind the "switch" can't really be cut off, the thoughts will nag me to the point where I can't really relax or focus on anything else until I just binge and get it over with. I keep no binge foods in the house, but that doesn't matter, I just get in the car and go buy them. I honestly don't know what my triggers are the feeling just comes over me. I am not an emotional eater I tend to eat less when I am upset over something. If I had to guess it would probably be that the binging is a direct result of dieting. I know some will point out that LC is not a diet per se, but even with LC I have to be a bit hungry to lose weight, so I guess it is a binge/restrict cycle?? Interesting that you mentioned allergies, just recently I found that when I binge I get cold symptoms and have wheezing. Last edited by jeaniem; 01-04-2013 at 03:45 PM.. |

Very often, foods that you are allergic to will be in the foods you crave/binge on. For me, wheat is the worst. You mentioned 3 of the most common allergies, dairy/chocolate/peanuts as your cravings. Might be worth checking out.

I had some blood testing done and it only showed a sensitivity to shellfish, which I have no problem eating. My son has allergies to wheat, soy and peanuts, but was not diagnosed until his early twenties! Looking back though I can see that a lot of his health problems stemmed from these allergies. My Dr, not the same doctor as my sons mentioned to me that it is very common for others in the family to have the same allergies. It is weird that we would crave those foods. I don't get why that would happen.

My binge sounds like yours. The switch gets flipped and I am at the mercy of the monster. This not overindulging or eating off plan. This is blind frenzied eating that does not stop until I collapse. I would say I consume somewhere in the neighborhood of 3000 calories in a few hours. ![]() I have not binged in about a month but I did overindulge. The feeling is different though. During a true binge I have no control. Frenzy is the only way to describe it ![]() I'm taking GABA and 5htp in addition to glutamine and finding them helpful. |

These binge episodes are reflected in the credit card bill I received today, all these smaller charges outside of the regular grocery bill. Boy those dollars really do add up!

Jeaniem: Wouldn't today be day 6/30? Im all confused - lol
Another binge free 100% Induction Day - however - no budge on the scale this morning. At least I'm in Ketosis - I expect better results tomorrow. A friend of mine had the lab band surgery and she said the other day: I miss eating. I miss that too, just sitting on the couch at 9PM munching pretzels and chips and the list goes on and on and on. Bad habits... |

Binge eating for me is when I start eating off plan for some reason and then it's "oh, what the heck" and I start just eating anything in the house that I would not normally eat...mostly all high-carb. I often eat stuff in the bathroom so my DH won't see me.
At Christmas, it was the fudge, cookies, lefse, krum kake w/whipped cream...stuff like that. I did get back on track, though, a couple of days after Christmas. |
