UK/Europe/Middle East - December 2012
Hi All

Here we are! Have a great final month of the year everyone!!

junkfoodmonkey 12-03-2012 04:04 AM

December already, good grief! Time to start thinking about my plans for 2013.

lola5k 12-03-2012 07:44 AM

Thank you Vicky. I would love "dummy steps" on how to do it.

janj 12-03-2012 12:49 PM

Thanks for starting the new thread Mint. Time always seems to go faster in December....so much to do!!

Congratulations to our amazing Blotto - can't wait to hear the details. What an accomplishment. I hope the celebrations are fun-filled:)

I'm recovered from the latest knife to my tummy! but it seems left an extra few pounds in that area! Not to worry.

I'm busy planning a trip to NYC for the weekend with my two daughters. DD1 has a business trip and use of a lovely apartment in Manhattan, so DD2 and I are gate crashing. Should be fun.

Hope everyone is having a good start to the week (especially you, Lola, after last week's trials and tribulations!).

Junoesque 12-03-2012 03:32 PM

Jan - SOOO glad you're in one (re-sewn-together) piece. Just concentrate on getting better - a little bit of wobble is something you can easily deal with later. Big hugs.

And Blotto - FABULOUS achievement there. So hoping you're still in a martini haze :-) So proud of you!!!

Mint, thanks for starting the thread (although I still don't see why we have to, LOL!). Good luck with your weight-loss-before-Christmas goal!!

Lola, big hugs from me too.

And JFM, goodness, looking forward to next year? I am impressed. Still haven't *quite* got to grips with this one...

Hello everyone else, sorry I appear to be constitutionally unable to drag personal details from one month to another... I shall blame it on constant and frustrating rehearsals and duck out of blame altogether, methinks :-) Hehehe.

So one particularly good moment (forgive me if I've shared this before. Too technologically-challenged - no who am I kidding? - LAZY - to check). The woman I am covering in these rehearsals is about two thirds my height. Seriously Kissa-size, height-wise. It would appear the same rehearsal skirt and jacket will do for us both. WIN!!!

Otherwise went for the carb-loading today due to getting snow up my nose and in other unspeakable places. I really shouldn't have cycled. Meh. Had to drag myself out of bed for the evening rehearsal. Worth it, mind, but difficult.

Does anyone else feel the same sort of gut satisfaction that you've found the answer to the weight-stability question?? I am over what I would like to weigh, but am a lot slimmer than when I started this. I pretty much know what works for me and what doesn't. I am not size 10 because (a) I shouldn't be to start with and (b) at the moment it is not worth it to me to put in the effort to lose more weight. However I feel wonderful knowing that the baguette my semi-frozen self gnawed halfway through today is not repeatable if I don't wish to renew the cravings, but is OK as part of a carb-loading fest (sort of including cream of tomato soup, but damn it, the stuff I get over here includes such heresies as BITS OF TOMATO!!!! Ugh. Give me Heinz again... ;-) ). And I know that if I eat that I will gain weight. And I know that if I cut out the carbs, the weight will steadily drop off. For me, SUCH a revelation a few years ago, and since reinforced many times over.

Love to you all,

Juno x x x

Hi hi everyone from a very snowy Buckinghamshire. Think it will be all gone thank goodness by this pm. However, on cue the boiler has broken down so no hot water or heating brrr. Got a couple of oil filled radiators and hopefully Engineer will call this pm to fix. Always the way.

On a DD today so sticking to home made vegetable soup to keep the cold at bay.

Blotto asked me to tell you: Say hi to all the gang on LCF for me - tell them I'm one happy half iron lady! :-)

"I'm still on such a high! It was the hardest and most amazing experience all at the same time. Nothing had prepared me for the hills! But the euphoria made it all worth while and the after party was fantastic"

I will leave it for her to decide if she wants to tell you what happened at the after party, wink wink :hyst:

Anyways wherever you are have a good day. Utilising my time waiting for the Engineer writing Xmas card and OMG...how much is all the postage....hmmm emails next year me thinks xxxx

shykins 12-05-2012 12:52 PM

just a quick hello from me to everyone

glad you are all well and posting

Junoesque 12-05-2012 02:35 PM

Shy!!! Hello darling, how are you doing?? Lovely to see you.

Lola, oh goodness, hope you can get the boiler fixed without being forced to take out a second mortgage. And congrats on actually sending Christmas cards. I gave up when I moved abroad... such a wimp (actually when I'm in rehearsals I invariably end up surprised by bank holidays, Sundays, birthdays; time is not my strongest suit!!).

Everyone else, wrap up well (if you're UK / US based), enjoy the heat (if you're Middle East or Oz based) and hehehe can't wait to hear all the gossip (if you're Phuket based...).

Mmmm homemade vegetable soup. Have one of those heating up right now...

Love to all,

Juno x x x

Ailuros 12-06-2012 02:19 AM

Shy! Hello. I hope things are going OK.

lola5k 12-06-2012 05:59 AM

Hi Shy...hope you are all OK.

Well day 3 now of no hot water or heating...brrr....hopefully back with the part this pm. Currently have oven on and two oil filled radiators kinda keeping the chill off and a variety of boots that I am contemplating buying off and on my feet lol.

Went to the gym this am for a good old shower and hot steam....its not so much the heating but the hot water that you miss.

Yep Juno reckon its going to be a new boiler eventually sooner rather than later because its getting old and guy told me a lot of the parts are obsolete....so will get them back to give me a quote in a week or so as I don't want this happening again and not being able to fix in mid January or February. Its 17 years old so done well. Problem is DH is a devil when it comes to spending on the house...he'll spend on expensive holidays and wines etc...but the house...noooh. Last night he was like well they do good deals in the Summer on boiler installations Hmmm I am sure that they do...but we probably need one NOW!! Sometimes I wish I could trade him in for a newer one lol.

Anyways on an UD today so not sure what I am going to eat...late back from gym so only just had breakfast.

Oh and Juno how I wish we were Oz/Middle East based somewhere with sunshine YAY!! I HATE THE WINTER!!

Blondie Baby 12-06-2012 09:01 AM

Hey All. super busy at work and no internet access yet. But loving it! For the first time in a very long time I look forward to going to work instead of dreading it! Looking forward to having DD1 home next weekend!

Shy - So good to see you! I saw DSs scooter! Hard to believe he is so grown up!

Lola - Really hope you get the new boiler. I think your DH and mine must be twins! GRRRRRRR

Juno - Always a pleasure to read your adventures!

Ailuros - Nice to see you too!

blotto76 12-07-2012 04:44 AM

Helloooooo from Koh Lanta!! Just a very quick stop by to say thanks for all the support and congrats on the half iron man - I'm still so chuffed and can't stop smiling! I finished in 7hrs 33, which is almost an hour better than I had hoped for. Had an amazing time in Phuket (including meeting a very handsome young man at the after party!) and I'm now chilling out in Koh Lanta. I leave on Sunday for Singapore.

Hope you are all well, sorry for no personals - will catch up again next time I log on.

Hugs to all! x x x

Junoesque 12-07-2012 03:25 PM

Blotto, I am SO proud of you!! I find it difficult to imagine focusing my body on something 100% for over seven hours (and we're talking a Wagner singer here...) and recognise your achievement for the absolute wonder it is. GOOD on you for the after-party reward ;-). And looking forward to hearing more...

Everyone else, hello! And I don't know if you remember me plaintively casting around for non-lethal midnight snacks a while ago (and I hope I haven't posted this already, it seems a bit familiar), but I discovered carrots!! Not in any rude sense ;-) but a bit of a midnight gnaw on an organic carrot seems to satisfy the craving for SOMETHING to eat, being sweet enough but without the sugar which makes you have to get up and clean your teeth, and providing a bit of welcome moisture too. Just thought I'd put that out there for any other gluttonous insomniacs!

junkfoodmonkey 12-11-2012 12:34 PM

Hello all! Sorry to post and run. Just wanted to check in. I'm just dead busy right now with writing and work and Christmas prep. Looking forward to Christmas itself and getting way so I can chill out! Oh and I was down nearly two pounds last week, so am finally in the 20lb club. Yay! Trying to be pretty strict this week and next before the Christmas food madness begins!

Oh and the problem I was having with calf cramps is improving. I take my magnesium supplement in the evening instead of the morning and make sure to have a late snack that I can put some Lo-Salt on, for potassium. Don't have as many now. :)

lola5k 12-12-2012 01:38 AM

Hi everyone. Guessing we all busy now with the pre Xmas stuff.

Well done junk on your loss. Also glad the cramps improving.

Juno good with the carrot fix and can imagine the need for teeth cleaning scenario afterwards tho.

To be honest I'm more or less done with Xmas stuff. Don't really have loads to buy. Just food shopping and that really won't be that different to normal. Putting into perspective it's only one day as DH keeps reminding me. But then he doesn't have to do anything to put it all together. Just eat and drink !! Makes me laugh. What contribution partners actually make. Just sit back and let it all happen around them. Tbh I'm really looking forward to doing what WE want. It's the first Xmas in 30 years where we've had no visitors. So if I wanna lie in bed till 10 am I can. Yay. If I just wanna slob on the couch I can. Yay

Still doing judd and still sitting 2lbs over my target which is pants. But as soon as I get remotely close its the weekend or some other drinking social occasion with Xmas so close. Hey I'll get onto it in the new year along with the couple extra I'll probs gain over festive period.

Anyway off out to another Xmas soirée today at lunch time. So be good xx

Ailuros 12-12-2012 02:52 AM

Hello everyone. I’m still hanging around.

We’ll be staying with my parents’ over Christmas and New Year. I hope I don’t come down with a lurgy like last year’s!

My husband read an article in the New Scientist about intermittent fasting. I wonder if he’ll end up doing JUDDD? If I tell him about some plan I found on the internet, he’ll be convinced it’s just the latest fad, but if he finds it himself, he might be curious enough to try it. It was a useless article though.

lola5k 12-12-2012 10:44 AM

That's men Ailuros...they like to think its their own finding..lol

Also hope you or none of us go down with the dreaded lurgie.

junkfoodmonkey 12-13-2012 04:21 AM

Guy at work is doing the Alternate Day fasting. Just started it this week - I'll see if he's still on it next week! I think my worry with that is that I'd spend the down day just thinking about what I could eat on the up day and I don't want to think about food all day! Not so much being hungry I mean, but just thinking about what I could eat.

Ailuros 12-13-2012 05:15 AM

When I tried it, I was surprised that what happened was I didn’t want to eat on up days. I thought about food all the time, but felt as if actually eating was a sort of failure. It was as if I suddenly had an anorexic mindset. Combined with feeling lightheaded and agitated, it wasn’t a good fit for me. But I could actually see it suiting my husband. Skipping meals doesn’t bother him, and is probably easier than just eating small meals frequently.

lola5k 12-14-2012 05:04 AM

Ailuros I was exactly the same in the beginning and wasn't eating enough on the up days because of it.

I don't really count on my UD's cos I realise to get over 2200 calories is a lot and I know that even on a good eating day I don't go over that. However, with the cold weather I am finding the DD.s hard at the moment.

Suppose I had better get a bit festive and put some decoration of sort up this weekend. Hmmm might take the route I took last year and just plug in an optic light tree that I have. A few candle bridges here and there, some tinsel...hey presto done. Then its less to take down. Do I sound BAH Humbug...oops sorry but not a time of year that I particularly enjoy lol.

Ailuros 12-14-2012 07:09 AM

My up day number was something like 1600. That’s ok for every day, but not enough to make up for DD.

lola5k 12-15-2012 09:22 AM

Ailuros ...that was my problem in the beginning I wasn't eating enough on the UD and it wasn't working.

However, as I said I am finding DD's quite difficult at the moment because of all the socialising. Last night was supposed to be an DD and ended up and UD with wine la la....out to party again tonight..so spose I.ll have to make tomo DD...Its hard now with less than 2 weeks till Xmas we just have to do what we can I guess.

Have a great weekend everyone

blotto76 12-15-2012 11:37 PM

Hi everyone, I'm back! Just popping in quickly to say hi and hope everyone is enjoying the run up to Xmas. Sorry no personals but first day back at work and lots to catch up on.

Hope you're all well!

lola5k 12-16-2012 06:48 AM

Welcome back Blotto...we've missed you. Hope work hasn't been too unkind and you don't have a ton to do. It's all the emails that are a pain isn't it.

Busy putting up a few decorations etc.

Hope you are all enjoying your day.

Blondie Baby 12-16-2012 09:13 AM

Just poppin in to say hi. Still super busy at work. But finally got my internet connection up and running today so insha'allah I will better about posting! DD1 is on her way home!!!! Can't wait to see her!

janj 12-17-2012 05:32 AM

Hi all,

Hope everyone is well and not too crazy in the run up to Christmas.

I am ashamed of my adopted country and the horrific shootings last Friday. I sincerely hope the gun laws can be reformed. How can they not be? Only rarely do I question our decision to live here.....but I am doing so just now

I enjoyed celebrating my youngest's 21st this weekend with go kart racing and a curry out with the family. Can't believe all my babies are now adults!

Glad you enjoyed your hols, Blotto. You'll be happy to have DD1 home, Blondie. Well done on the continued losses, JFM.

And a warm hello from my chilly corner of the world to everyone else!

Jan x

Ailuros 12-17-2012 05:39 AM

Jan, it was terrible, but terrible things aren’t limited to a particular country. When I was growing up the IRA were blowing up shopping centres over here.

shykins 12-17-2012 10:05 AM

just popping in to wish everyone a merry christmas and all the best for 2013.

ailuros i agree with u (as always lol) on the anorexic thoughts with DD and also the IRA shootings etc. terrible things happen everywhere at some point or another., unfortunately :(

hugs to everyone, heres to continued success in 2013 and i will try and be more of a presence next year hopefully

blotto76 12-17-2012 11:12 PM

Lola, work hasn't been too bad - thankfully it's getting quiet due to Christmas being just round the corner.

Blondie, glad the new job is going well and yay to DD1 being home!

Jan, aww, all your babies are grown up! Will they all be with you for Christmas?

Shy, hi! Are you excited about Xmas? I know you love it! Has DS started riding his scooter yet?

Juno, JFM, Mint, Kissa, Ailuros - hello, sorry for no personals - haven't had a chance to back read all the posts from before I got home!

Kissa 12-18-2012 11:02 AM

Creeping in.... missed the link, I am getting old.

No time for all the personals, but hope you are all coping with Xmas madness and eating whatever you need to to maintain your weight and your sanity. Which is about all we can ask for at this time of the year.

I am happily seeing 126 and below most of the time. :)

All times are GMT -7. The time now is 06:59 PM.
