Mar - 164.5
April - 168
May - 164.2
June - 166.4
July - 169.6 +3.2lbs some muscle from working out, mostly blubber i think though

Hovering near my cutoff point for the last couple of weeks, actually went over by 2 lbs, but got back on the wagon for exercising, today kicks off another routine of insanity. That always seems to do the trick without me changing my diet up too much.

Yesterday I went for a 31km bike ride to my buddies house and back. butt is killing but I felt good otherwise.

Not sure what I did Saturday to make my weight go up 5 lbs, but it is coming back down. Trying to drink lots of water.

Leaving for our trip on Friday. I was hoping to drop 6 more lbs from 262.2, so now I am looking at 8 lbs. Don't know if that is going to be realistic by Friday. It is supposed to be hot here all week. Still need to get out and do some exercise. Need to get yardwork done, so that should help burn some calories, and hoping to go for a bike ride.

Awesome bike ride ShiNer! I know I couldn't do that. Hopefully soon though I can.

Not a bad loss for the month for me. As long as I continue to keep ticking downward, I'll be happy. I'd love to see bigger numbers, but I'll take what I can get. Eats and exercise have been consistently good for me.

Thanks for the thread, Ken. I was just about do one, but you beat me to it! I don't think think there is any way I could do a 31 km on a bike. My rear hurts so bad just doing a couple of miles with the kids.

Staying postive, stayig busy, stayings as far away from the pantry/fridge as possible. nk0525 and Big D - way to go. Everyone else - good luck this week.

I heard a great quote from Mark Twain concerning quitting smoking: "It's easy to quit smoking. I've done it hundreds of times". Reminded me of what cutting weight for me has been like: Losing weight is easy. I've done it hundreds of times.

Oobs - read your last post from June and I have the same issue. When I give into food temptations, exercise is the last thing on my mind. I am usually feeling to ill to move. It is a tough issue to balance.

This weight loss for the week is weight I have lost in the past. I can still cut another 25 lbs before I reach the VFZ and this is my goal - though this week it is to reach my low for 2012 of 222.

Fourth of July Sub-Challenge Final Report

Start (05/16/2012): 215

Posting what I'll call final results for the FJSC. I've been eating plenty of carbs the last couple of weeks since signing up for the Spartan Race, so I don't think I have 5-7 pounds of transient glycogen & fluid loss hidden in that 17-pound loss and can legitimately claim it.

I let my focus shift from fat/weight loss to race training as I got back into running. I could have dropped more weight by staying low carb, but I do feel and perform better on a mixed "regular" diet. I probably should have remained focused on dropping weight as I'd prefer to race around 180 but not be needing to drop weight close to race day. We'll see how things go.

Ran 3 miles in 27:38 on Saturday - three weeks after I started running again. I wanted to be under 27:00, but I'll take it. I know my time will improve after a solid 6 weeks or so of running. I don't want to overdo it and develop shin or foot problems early on.

From this point on, my diet and training would probably be more appropriate for a Spartan Race training forum rather than a low-carb diet forum. We've got some new guys here in Camp that are doing great on LC and I don't want to steer things away from the true purpose of this forum. I'll check in and let you guys know how things are going.

Nathan - welcome aboard.

Ken - thanks for starting the new thread.

Keep up the good work, everyone.

Nice losses fellas.

Ken - Good on ya for cranking out 31k. Thanks for the thread.

Stack - 17 pounds is an impressive loss. Definitely keep us updated on your progress with training for the Spartan Run.

Wasn't going to post today. Not in a good place, but still feel like I needed to touch base.

Went in on my back again yesterday to the chiro. Trying to get the dang thing to stop getting messed up so fast. THey did traction to try to get things to stay in place. Hurt like all get out. Still hurting today. I laid with an ice pack on it last night for awhile trying to get it to calm down. Its also hotter than hockey sticks here right now. Supposed to get up to mid 90s again today, with high humidity.

We ended up eating out last night because I just wanted to eat and get in bed. I was careful! But I still ended up gaining. I had wings with a dry rub and a caeser salad. Didn't eat the crutons. And I had a beer. 1 pint of light beer. Then I drank 2 glasses of water at the restaurant and got home and had another 54 oz of water before I headed to bed. Thought I would flush everything out. Don't think that happened.

Anyway, hoping for my back to settle down so I can do things. I did make myself clean up the garage so my wife could get her car in teh garage today since it is so hot. We had a flash flood last year, and the basement just got redone. So alot of stuff is in the garage currently since we didn't have anywhere else to put it. We are trying to clear it all out, so had moved some stuff around. Time to get it all out.

Nathan - If you've been normally preparing your own food a meal out at a restaurant can sometimes be a bit of extra sodium and possibly a few extra carbs. I've definitely encountered that next day bloat, it usually goes away pretty quick. Hope that back starts feelin better.

Happy 4th BCC! (and a belated Happy Canada Day to Ken!)

Still doing good. My weight has consistently been up a couple of pounds so far this week, but I haven't done anything to cause it. Hopefully it will even out by the end of the week.

I got a new set of golf clubs last week, so I've been walking 9 holes each day. It's amazing how much difference 15 years of club technology makes! I had a set of Pings that I loved, but I hit these new clubs further, straighter and higher. Too bad they can't help my putting.

Doing well here. I've got a few days off from work. Got a good workout in yesterday evening and knocked out the yard mowing this morning. It was already too hot at 9:30 am.

Wow it's gotten slow this week. The scale has finally evened back out for the week. Hopefully the weekend will keep it moving in the right direction.

Nathan - hang in there! We've all been in bad places, eventually they turn around.

Stack - don't be a stranger. Regardless of whether you are low carbing or doing Spartan training, I think all of our goals are the same. Good luck on your race!

Finally got a morning workout in first thing today. Hopefully I can start making it a habit again. It's such a physical and mental boost to start the day that way.

WTG oobs. I prefer the morning to workout - not that I keep to that though. It is a boost mentally and physically. The hardest part is getting motivated to shut off the alarm and get busy.

Big D - I agree on that one. I was golfing with a set up hand-me-downs from the 90s. I finally decided to get new clubs two years ago and after learning how to handle those old clubs, the new ones were a blast. I never thought a driver was that big of deal until I used a modern one. Now I can play without as much embarrassment.

The 4th was a good one for me. Ate some carbage, but nothing that put me into a carb hangover. Going for a walk this morning. A cold front must have passed through in the night. Much cooler than the low 80s that has been found at this time of morning the last week.

check in

Hey guys,

Doing well around here except for the crazy heat. wed thurs I couldnt exercise no matter what, way too hot. yesterday was hot too but I went down in the cool basement and rocked out a 20 min HIIT routine.

I am trying to get in 5 routines a week be it cardio or weights, at least 20 mins long, one more to go for this week, have to wait till my daughter and her friend wake up as they took over the basement for a sleepover

Alex - where are you pal??? check in dude!

finally got some rain here, but I think that will just make it more muggy feeling, next week around 30 degrees C here,

4th week of my job in the books, doing really well there, training is over, but I still have 2 or 3 pages of things to complete before my probation is up. shouldnt be a huge deal, working some evenings next week to learn that side of it, so I should be able to get some morning workouts done!

have a good weekend

Shiner - wtg on exercise.

I'm 55 years old today. I got a great birthday present: scale said 145 this morning, a new low (down from 148 last week). I went down another notch on my belt yesterday. I've got a lot to be grateful for.

I picked up my 9-month chip at my OA home group last night. We each define our own definition of food abstinence in OA; mine has been no sugar, no starch, no alcohol.

Highlight of this week's Spartan Race training was a brisk 8.1-mile hike carrying a 40-pound pack. 40 pounds didn't sound that heavy on paper compared to the loads we had to hump in the Corps. Wrong. It's been a while since I've carried more than water bottles, a camera and a rain jacket on a hike.

Doug - Happy Birthday and sincere congratulations on 145 and your continuing losses.

Down 2.2 lbs. A big win for this week. I took a day off on the 4th. Daughter was put in the hospital last night. Not a lot of sleep. I wish I could help her more when she gets asthma attacks. Truly a helpless feeling as a parent.

Doug - truly amazing. Thanks for sharing your OA story. Very inspiring. Also, happy birthday!

Oobs - rock on.

Gimp - If you can break even with all the temptations the 4th brings, up 1 lb is a win.

I made an observation a few weeks back. I had a nagging, throbbing pain in my hip. It is the same side I had a knee damaged a few years back when two football players slammed into the outside of my knee. I felt this was a manifestation of my slow and steady weight gain. When I weighed 260, my knee often ached. Down 12 lbs from the aches, it has gone away. I read up on the issue and based upon joint angles, each 1 lb of weight translated 2x -3x the pounds actually applied on the joint.

Goal for this week is to get back below the 220 mark.

No loss for the week for me. I had an off plan meal Friday night. I kept it reasonable (<100 grams carbs) and got right back on plan Saturday morning. Played a little golf and did a lot of swimming with the kids. We've had relatively mild weather (under 100 degrees) the last week, so we've been doing more outside stuff.

Happy bday Doug and congrats on 145!

Huff - It is amazing how much less stuff hurts when we aren't carrying so much extra baggage. Good luck on the 220, I'm trying to get under 210 this week.

huff - Nice job. Nice steady loss over the last month. I remember watching a show on the Discovery channel about body weight and the forces on your body. I remember cringing over it.

Stack - I'd imagine the body weight exercises and movements you have been doing is perfect for preparing for the obstacle portion of the run, but I was wondering if you have any tricks up your sleeve to further mimic the obstacle while under stress from running.

@huff thanks man! Yes I did cheat on the 4th! (alot)
@oobs good job on the workouts. I'm telling you if i didn't have my dog i would probably get little to no exercise for that daily burn.
@bigD nothing wrong with staying level! Don't be like me!
@SD - yes even twenty pounds is heavy. When you hike it's not like walking, you actually have to be conscience on how you step so it's mentally draining, and whatever you've carried isn't as comfortable as it was when you started. And it's a lot more physically draining because sometimes you have to use more than just your legs to get somewhere. I actually bought a backpack with a seat belt that helps with the load so it's not all on your shoulders neck. But I recommend hiking/camping combo, nothing like a pan fried fish that you hiked to go catch, and then the chore of scaling/gutting, the guttural anticipation of sustenance while you cook it, and the euphoric body high you get when you eat it. God i love camping!
@Doug - HAPPPY BIRTHDAY!

Hey guys, i'm not sure if you guys are fans of snacking like me. Potato chips / cheese curls are a temptations that I've learned to control. But there are these things called Pork Rinds and they are pretty amazing. And of course zero carbs. Which i find kinda funny, and maybe its just my location. But I cannot find these in the markets near me. They have twenty different flavors of 'plain' corn chips with ZERO transfats but no Pork Rinds. I've also noticed that most items in the market say 0%fat strange world this, almost as if it's stacked against you to eat tons of sugar (aka corn).

However, I have found that amazon gave me the hook up 4 18oz tubs of rinds for 11 bucks a pop. No more 99cent bags from royal farms right next to all the snickers ice-cream bars that I want to devour.....

Doug - great jobs on the loss and the 9 month chip!!!

Huff - nice loss as well, keep that up

As for me, I have reached defcon 4, I had to kick things into overdrive today at dinner, went real low carb, had a protein shake after (low Carb)

I am feeling pudgy these days, my weight isnt all bad, but the feel and look and shake of it all has sent me around the bend today, enough is enough,

I am going to go low carb for the rest of this week, try to keep it 20G and under. I work afternoons for the next 3 days which will help me in avoiding crap, will also keep me up later to get rid of food and let me exercise in the morning before work.

Low carb and HIIT dont usually work hand in hand as the gas tank needs to be a little more full. But I will do as much as I can.

I may have to start weighing in every monday to keep more accountable, Im hoping this weeks shake up is all thats needed and then keep on the exercise path.

Gimp - Walmart sells pork rinds here. I bought some cheapos but they smelled too much like a hog. Growing up near hog farms, that smell was a turn off. Lots of low carbers love them and swear by them.

Shiner - are you still doing the beach body series?

Still doin my thing over here. Not much new to report on that front. I got woken up last night by the loudest clap of thunder I think I've ever heard. Sounded like a bomb went off right outside my window. Scared the heck out of me. It turned out a house two doors down got hit. No fire, but destroyed a bunch of their electronics, tv, stereo, etc.
