Tami - SPIDER would have done me in and I agree, I am a firm believer that sometimes that NUMBER on the scale is dictating way more than it should!

Thank you a bunch, JUDDD buddd!! ![]() Come on, new decade...I've been in the 170's forever. For Ever. Enjoy the last sweet lazy days of the summer!! Lynne

I am confused today... Yesterday I had a bit of a cheat... I went for sushi
so I hought today I would see a gain for sure! But I am down 1.8 to 192.4! I am not complaining, just confused as to why and how upping my carbs like that can lead to a significant loss overnight! Any thoughts? |

I drag it out every time somebody is stuck stuck stuck and they up their carbs a little...and lose. Wanna hear it? ![]() Of course, Lynne. Why the heck not? Okay. *Digging out my ancient, crumbling biochem notes* Burning fat requires assorted chemical bits to work. (So does burning carbs; different chemical bits, of course.) It's equivalent to needing wood, lighter fluid, wadded paper, and a match to get a campfire started. All of those chemical bits we can either gather or assemble from the food we eat, but maybe not in the quantities we'd like. All it takes to stop fat-burning from its full, wonderfully wasteful inefficiency is the scarcity of one of those substances. And one of those substances, (I think I recall that it's pyruvate I'm thinking of), is a natural product of the glycolysis cycle, which is the carb and sugar burning cycle. For those of us with carb issues *raising hand here*, we probably have always leaned heavily on that pathway for producing pyruvate - like McDonald's relies on Simplot to supply their french fry potatoes. ![]() We went on a low-carb diet, and suddenly Simplot went out of business! Now you're scrambling to find other suppliers of pyruvate, and they do exist, but they're not quite the reliable large-scale operation that Simplot was. So you struggle to get enough perfectly shaped genetically engineered potatoes to sell your usual number of french fries, metaphorically speaking. In short, you have a supply problem. So what happens? You cheat and have a little sushi rice, and your glycolysis cycle gets going again. Yay, a big shipment of pyruvate just came in! Now fat-burning can proceed at top speed. The scale moves. We throw a party. ![]() And there you have it - my pet pyruvate theory. ![]() I am one of those people who needs a certain number of carbs (but not sugar, I'm discovering) to keep the fat fires burning. Scale said 170 this morning! Come on new decade, come on!! Some of you might remember my Fast 5/Atkins hybrid from the last challenge? Well, I've gone back there in a way; I'm doing an Atkins/JUDDD hybrid. Calories are high on UD (I had a genuine almond binge two days ago) and low on DD, but I've tossed all the slightly carby stuff I was integrating, for now. It just stopped me dead in my tracks and I'm SO bored of the 170's. 3 pounds in 3 DDs is fine with me. ![]() It's the last holiday weekend of the summer here in Margaritaville Oregon, so I don't dare leave the house today for fear of being mowed down by a drunken tourist. Wish me luck. ![]() Carry on, my friends!! 20 days left of the challenge!! Lynne |

Lynne! Thanks for this theory! It makes sense, and I often read about people doing a cheat day or weekend or whatever to reset and it sounds like it works for some people. For me i cant ever do more than a cheat meal as it was last night i was craving all kinds of food i usually dont think twice about! Besides any cheat, even just a cheat meal, it usually sets me back 5-10 days. I am interested to see how my scale reacts tomorrow!

Just popping by to say I'm definitely not dead. I've been out of town for the last week and just getting caught up with everyone. Looks like there have been tons of losses this week so Yay! for that.
Lynne I'm glad my theory is helping, I thought that might be the problem (as I am always right ) but wasn't sure. for reclaiming siggy weights and 150's and size 12 pants too.MIL is coming in a few days so once again busy busy but I'm going to try to make it into the 150's this month, probably won't happen but I'm going to fight for it like everything. I'm still sitting at my signature weight so there is some hope.

Elise, glad to hear you're not dead. lol. I'm looking forward to cheering you on as you jump into those 150's this month!
I didn't weigh this morning. Couldn't sleep & got up around 3:30(yeah) thinking I'd go back to bed & weigh when I got up at 5... ended up just staying up & forgot all about weighing before grabbing a cup of coffee... I have a feeling it would have said 225ish anyway. lol Hope today's 'Monday' morning isn't too rough on anyone. Just sent two grumpy college age kids out the door

It won't be too long now. I haven't been great this week and really need to crack down on my eating. Apparently I only lost about 4 lbs last month, which is not bad but I hope I can do better in September. Loving these cooler temperatures, makes me want to get my stroller out and go for a long fall walk. |

So... I am up. The sushi carbs found me
and I didn't drink enough water yesterday. Oh well. Onward and downward!! Pumping up the water and the fat a little today as hat usually helps me! |
