I'm so excited that my woosh was real! No bouncing up or anything!

I've started drinking more plain water and cut my diet pop to 1 a day plus my Celsius I drink when I work out. Speaking of which, now that the kids are done eating I can go and work out. Oh the love/hate relationship I have with my elliptical!

Oh, I am really close to meeting a milestone. My highest was 289, so just 2 more pounds and I will have lost a total of 50 pounds! How weird is it that I don't feel like I look any different? I was in such denial about how big I was, that I never saw myself as as that large. I think I always saw myself as about this size. So now that I am this size, I don't feel any different.

JCWANNABE - congratulations on your woosh!

zipp2play & lynne2u - how are you guys now? Any better?

Everyone - we're doing awesome!! I'm down to 160 today, it's been one week since I started on my LC journey.

I have a quick question - what do you do when you have to eat out? This weekend I'm meeting up with friends for brunch then baseball game, then dinner. Lots of tempting options and carbs are EVERYWHERE... Do you pick at your food when it arrives at the table or do you consume some carbs?

Anna

If you are asking whether I "cheat"...I don't. Personally. But I try to be knowledgeable and flexible about carb counts in unfamiliar food.

Baseball game? Yes to the hot dogs, but quietly toss the bun when nobody's looking. Yes to the peanuts. Yes to the wine and beer, unfortunately. No to the ice cream and caramel corn.

Dinner at a friends house? Yes to protein food and vegetables, even with a little breading (I'd pick it off a little) and sauces (as long as it's not too viciously sweet) I'd scrape it down a bit and call it good. No to pasta or rice or potatoes. Yes to wine. No to dessert. Yes to a bite or two of fruit, but no more.

Dinner at restaurant? Chinese, yes to moo goo gai pan or general tso's chicken or mongolian beef; yes to bbq pork; no to the rice, egg roll and sweet/sour pork. Mexican, yes to fajitas, except the tortillas; yes to carne asada or chicken en mole (without tortillas). Yes to guacamole and those shrimps with garlic butter. Italian...well, good luck with that. Leave the bread and pasta alone and hope for the best.

Hope this helps some.

Lynne

Anna - thanks for asking, my neck is almost back to 100%. I am thinking by tomorrow I will be pain free!

Calories were a bit high yesterday. I think I am going to tweak breakfast to lower them down a bit on up days. Today is a down day. I am having Cottage cheese/strawberries mid morning. Crack slaw for lunch and lettuce wrap sandwiches for dinner (at the ball field!). Should be right at 500c! I will weigh in tomorrow for the week since I forgot to yesterday! Chugging water as we speak. I typically get in 1 gallon a day!

Hi lynne2u & Monk - thanks for that. My mantra for this weekend will be "DO NOT CHEAT". I'll let you guys know on Monday what the scale says...

zipp2play - glad to hear that you're feeling better!

I know JCWANNABE weighs everyday but does everyone else weigh everyday too? I'm currently weighing myself every morning but I'm slowly obsessing about that number so I don't think it's good for me. Maybe I should weigh every three days or something? I'm doing weekly measurement on my body...

Anna, I don't weigh everyday. I do NOT do well dealing with the bounce. I weigh, AT MOST, once a week and sometimes on weigh in day I forget! 3 years ago I made a decision, NO MATTER MY SIZE, I would not let the scale rule me anymore. I went about 2 1/2 years not weighing at all. When DH and I started JUDDD on 04/18 I backed onto the scale. Initially, I wasn't going to look at the numbers at all. Then, about 4 weeks into it, we messed up and I somehow saw the number. I then promised DH it wouldn't ruin me and I would weigh in weekly seeing the number. I am more than a NUMBER and I think, it only took me 38+ years to realize that!

good morning all! bounced up to 210 this morning, I had a feeling though.. yesterday I was having major cravings, I felt just ick, I am still fighting off this summer cold.. plus I was hungry at midnight when I couldn't sleep and had some cheese onward.. will make sure I get in all my liquids today, it is supposed to "cool" down to 99 today!

Anna - I do weigh daily, only because I want to see if any particular things affect my weight. Certain foods, lack of liquid etc. For some reason, I feel better weighing daily and seeing either the loss, the same or the pound up I had this morning, it gives me to control to correct it right then and there. If I were to wait an entire week and think I was doing good and then see +1 or worse after 1 week.. I would be like.. WTH?! and possibly derail.. but that is just me. I use the scale as a tool.. like tracking food, it keeps me in check. I do not get emotionally upset when I am up a pound (although I used to) I get like.. ok.. what did I eat yesterday, what did I drink, was I in the sun, a new activity? etc.. Hope that helps.. just remember, do what works for you!

Anna, we're behind you all the way, and we'll be celebrating your "I had a good time without poisoning myself" victory with you!! We love those , and you'll feel like a million bucks afterwards, and plus the memory of your accomplishment sticks with you a long time. Isn't it so?

Zipp, I second your scale wisdom, and Monk, too.

I've been weighing every UD morning since I started JUDDD, but maybe it has something to do with your WOE?? That is, with JUDDD you'd just be torturing yourself to weigh every single day and actually pay attention to what it says. It would be an emotional roller coaster. With a less bouncy WOE, maybe it would be as Monk uses it, a good indicator and early warning device. YMMV, I guess.

Now I need a) to vent; b) collective wisdom.

I've been realizing that part of the reason I got so fat in the first place is that some of my family is kinda toxic. They bully me, pick on me, disrespect my parenting, etc. Two years ago I decided to "love them with distance", as a friend put it - or put up some no-contact boundaries and enforce them.

At the same time, started losing the huge amount of extra weight I've carried all my life. I don't think these two things are unrelated.

I'm a single mother with a disabled 8 year old and a...difficult ex husband. I don't have a lot of extra energy for family members that drain me, and don't listen to "no means no". I'm getting old enough to worry about my health, and want to preserve it.

Now the toxic family members are stalking me online with "love". How do I tell them "I'm so much happier and healthier without you in my life"? Or should I just continue staying away (I live a fair distance away, not the same town)? Or should I call the police and report the stalking?

If anyone's got any ideas or experience with this kind of thing, bring it please!!

Lynne

P.S. Scale says 177 today, but my skinny pants fit like my fat pants used to. If that makes any sense.

Lynne - you are the one in control. If they are stalking you online, comment and such, but keep your distance. I agree, your losing weight and distancing them, not a coincidence! Family can be GREAT or they can BE the problem! You are an adult and are able to decide, do what is best for you and your son!

Lynn toxic remains toxic. I know its harsh but I highly doubt people who have behaved like that in the past have suddenly found their inner mother Theresa. My mom's side of the family is like that and I have not spoken to my grandmother or grandfather in nearly 15 years. Personally, I would be cordial but distant. Luckily online, you are in charge of what you respond to and you don't have to invite these people back in your life. Just think about what makes you happiest and head that direction

UD here and doing fairly well except that I made my children chocolate zucchini muffins with half almond flour and half whole wheat and I totally caved and ate one (which is bad since I promised myself I was going to go strict LC for a bit) but it was healthy and delicious so onward and upward.

Zipp2play-- you need to weigh soon, even I'm getting anxious for an update to see if you're in the 160's yet

Monk - your logic makes sense to me. Be accountable! And that I totally agree with, except I take things too emotionally. Sigh. The scale moving up will depress me, and I'm not sure if I'm ready (1 week in) to take that slap in the face, you know? But I know that I've been consuming too little calories and my body's resisting weight loss, so today I forced myself to eat. Meat with butter. And cheese.

lynne2u - I don't know if me, as a single 30 year old, can help you (I probably haven't experienced half the things that you have). But I can tell you my story. My mom's always the one that bugged me throughout my life to lose weight. She's never been fat and does not understand how an overweight person feels. And thus, numerous attempts at failed diets during my teenage years. Then I went away to university and graduate degrees so a bit of salvation during my 20's. Now, I'm back home, and I told her when I moved back in - I won't tolerate anymore of the nagging/stressing. It's my body, I'll deal with it. So now I am. And she's learned to (almost) keep quiet and offer support rather than pointing out failure. I wouldn't say that my mom's toxic, it was just her way of communication that FAILED when I was a teenager. I think you need to have a conversation about leaving you alone, then continue staying away. Good luck!

My weigh in was crappy. I was only down .6, I guess it's better than up. Not sure when I will weigh in next week. I leave Wednesday for TEXAS, I guess I could weigh in Tuesday after my DD. That will be my plan. CROSS FINGERS I am in the 160's!

On my 8th day of LC and I've been stalling for 3 days at 160. But, my weight hasn't gone up, which is good. I've increased my calorie intake, as I realized that I was eating only about 700 per day, which is probably the reason my body's holding onto everything thinking that it's starving!. I don't want to have to keep lowering calorie intake in order to lose weight quickly.

Also thinking that 10 pounds in one week is rather quick so my body has to adjust to that before it loses more, right?

I'd rather have steady loss, even 2lbs per week without stalling would be nice... Hope everyone else is doing well!

Good afternoon Lovelies! Down Day here and an extremely low carb one and that and suddenly I felt this huge rush of energy from no where and my kids and I organized their room and clean and put away and got ready for back to school. I go SO MUCH done because I wasn't busy thinking about food. It was really nice. For lunch I had ozouid's recipe for shiritaki that tastes just like Pad Tai and was huge so I'm happy, full, and my house is organized. How awesome is that? I'm finally down to my pre-vacation weight again and *fingers crossed* hope I will see 176 tomorrow on my UD. A girl can dream right?

Lynn just remember that you happiness is the most important thing and to focus less on making others happy and more on yourself.

Zipp2play, bummer on not being in the 160's yet but its just around the corner

Bronwyn: So happy for you, I know how hard you have tried and its awesome seeing your amazing effort FINALLY show up on the scale. Its all downhill from here

Annabanana- Its pretty common for weight loss to stall for a bit after the initial whoosh, its just your body getting a hang on things and WL will return when its figured everything out. Don't despair, its happened to us all!

jcwannabe, seriously what is your secret, that is some amazing losses. I'll confess I'm a bit jealous

Bronwyn, congrats!!! Love those milestone #s

Anna, your body is probably still reeling over that 10lbs. Your calorie bump will help keep you moving.

Lynne, as soon as their opinions no longer matter to you....they go silent. It is amazing how it works. Kinda like when you first become a mother and all the advice and parenting philosophies throw you around poking at your new-mother insecurity. Then eventually you look at this child that your body created and finally get that your instincts and innate wisdom are all you need to love that child right. Then it's as if the universe hears you and the the well meaning move on to their next victim bc you are no longer receptive. Feel me?

Boop- cheering for your whoosh!

Zipp- down is always goooooood

As for me, the sodium overload is clearing again. It is amazing what too much salt does-wowza! Today is pizza day and I'm too lazy to do lc dough so I'm eating something else.

OMG Clemmys ice cream is unbelievable btw

Anyone else imagining their weight loss makeover look? I plan on expressing my new figure to it's fullest at the challenge end

I'm not sure why my body is suddenly deciding to make it happen, but I sure like it! The only thing I don't post is that I eat a lot of fiber-gummies. Like 5-10 a day (not at the same time) to keep the lanes clear . They also cure a sweet tooth.

Other than that I try to keep it as high fat as possible, lately my carbs have been about 15 or less, and my calories stay pretty low, like 1000-1400.

I've cut out most of my diet pop, but I still drink a Celsius when I work out, plus 1-2 diet pops.

I have begun working out before breakfast. I do at least 60 minutes on my elliptical before breakfast 5-6 times a week. I usually have a protein drink after my work out for a meal. Sometimes I add some nuts with it. It satisfies the sweet/salty thing .

I don't usually eat until after noon. I have not been perfect about it, but I have also started taking coconut oil. I take 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon at a time 1-2x a day. If a meal of mine is not high enough in fat I go to the coconut oil.

I post my diet daily on my journal. Feel free to come on over! I'm an attention junkie .

I think I began to see my weight loss kick it up when I started to work out before breakfast, drink more water, and take coconut oil. Also tracking EVERYTHING I eat in my online food journal!

I also take a bunch of vitamins. I take the "diabetic health" pack from costco. I'm not diabetic (I will be if I don't lose weight!). I also take extra chromium on top of what comes in the pack. I take metformin for my pcos to.

Bronwyn and JC- Wow! Congrats on the losses!

Zipp- .6 down is better than up!

Anna- I dropped a lot of weight my first week, and then none for a week or so, then I started consistently losing a few pounds a week. Just stick with it!

I have lost all of my 4th gain, and somehow managed to take another pound with it! 225 this morning! For some reason I am feeling incredibly optimistic about getting out of the 220s a lot faster than the 230s (I feel like I was in the 230s forever!)

I have been drinking so much water, but slacking a bit on my exercise. It has been so hot here, and I have been incredibly busy at work. I just have very little energy left lately. Hoping to overcome this soon.

So proud of everyone here! Have a great weekend!

JCWANNABE - more congratulations! Well done - please share the weight loss fairy around…

brew state - crossing my fingers for you!

PeacefulGuide - in terms of weight loss makeover look, I keep going window shopping as part of my exercise. Today, I've done 5 hours of it! I keep looking at different size clothes and think "you know, I hope to fit into that by Thanksgiving" and such. I don't know, I'm usually very pessimistic but there's some optimism in me, I suppose…

outofseason - thanks for the moral support, I can use some now. I'm glad to know that it's not just me that's not losing after the first week.

Everyone - I wonder if it's possible for your body to hold onto more water during hot weather? Also, tomorrow is "eating out all day" which scares me slightly. And my weekly measurement day is Sunday, so I'm really hoping for some good news on that front… Wish me luck!

Have a good night!!

Anna
