Jan - 174.2
Feb - 165 Mar - 164.5 April - 168 May - 164.2 June - 166.4 +2.4lbs Not bad at all considering I havent been able to do much of my Insanity routine. More weightlifting though has put on some muscle. Kept within 3 lbs for most of the year which is great for me. |

FJSC Day 16 Report (for Thurs. 5/31)
Weighed in at 201 yesterday (0715).
No walking or training. Helped my father-in-law and his colleagues move office furniture for 6.5 hours. That was enough for me. Good "practical strength" workout. Breakfast: Skipped. Lunch: "Kitchen Sink" omelette (w/ ham, sausage, bacon, cheese, green pepper, onion & tomato). This was $4.25 at the local Amish market - can't beat that. Dinner: Tuna salad w/ Swiss on Flatout 8g. net carb flatbread; 4 tbsp. Power PB. Thanks for staring the June thread, Ooba. Nice job, Ken. |

Oob - thanks for starting the thread.
Ken - congrats on keeping your weight stable. 3-pound range is great! Stack - that omelet sounds good. Now I want one. Quote:
Highest weight, last April, was 229. I'm down 75 pounds, which is a heck of a lot to be grateful for. I found my measuring tape, and measured my waist a couple days ago. Though I'm wearing 34-inch-waisted pants, I measured 36 inches. At my max, my 46-waisters were tight, but it's still 4-6 inches more than I'd like. Yesterday's chow: 7 am 3 eggs fried in 1 tbsp butter, 1 c almond milk 12 pm 5 oz tuna w/ 2 tbsp mayo, 1/2 c chopped onion, 2 oz dill pickles, 1 oz cheese 3:15 pm 1 oz cheese, 2 tbsp chopped walnuts 4:30 pm 3 eggs fried in 1 tbsp butter, 1.5 c steamed frozen green beans w/ 1 tbsp butter and 1 tbsp parmesan cheese, 1 turkey burger w/ 1 tbsp mayo 7 pm 1.5 oz bag salted almonds 11 pm 1 oz cheese, 1/4 c chopped walnuts, and 1/2 c frozen mixed berries per *********: 2399 calories, 28 g net carbs, 134 g protein, 71% calories from fat

Eats were on plan today, but my energy is gone for some reason. Planning on getting a workout in before dark, maybe walk a few miles.

Cheeseburger salad sounds tasty.
I lived it up yesterday. I had the day free, so I went to the mall and saw The Avengers, Battleship, and Men in Black 3. Between Avengers and Battleship, I went to the Gordon Biersch restaurant in the mall and got a New York strip steak with grilled sliced summer squash, and a wedge salad (a big chunk of iceberg lettuce with bacon, blue cheese, and blue cheese dressing). I can't remember the last time I had steak. Red meat rules! I also can't remember the last time I had a wedge salad. It was so much more fun to hack into it with the steak knife, rather than spearing individual torn lettuce leaves with my fork. I haven't had a favorite steak house since I moved from Chicago, when I used to like to splurge at The Berghoff, or Don Roth's Blackhawk. I don't even know if those are still in business, but the steaks sure were good. I don't cook them at home because I don't like to clean the broiler afterwards, and they never come out quite as good as when a pro cooks them. What suggestions for good places to get steak, or good ways to cook it, do the rest of you have? The Avengers was good. Thor was the only movie in the series I'd already seen, but now I want to rent the Iron Man movies and Captain America, as well. MiB3 was ok. I especially liked Russell Brand as the bad guy. Battleship - the FX are cheesy, and there's no other reason to see it. After all that sitting in the movie theater, I felt like walking the 2-3 miles home. It was all uphill. I used to walk it all the time when I was coming home from work near there, in the '80's, the last time I weighed what I do now. I can't remember the last time I did it, but I do remember huffing and puffing a lot. I was amazed at how much easier it was, even when I was walking faster than most of the people around me, or sprinting to make a green light. Life is so much better without the fat suit. Had a good day here. Eats were good and I got much activity in. Mowed the yard early, then played frisbee with some neighbors, reorganized the garage, and even got a workout in after dinner. My right ankle is giving me a little trouble though. Nothing major, I just think I need to go easy on for a bit.
DougK - That was quite a day. Sounds like a great meal. Ken - Is this the last week at your job? |

Doug - That is some kind of day, 3 movies !! I would have to goto the chiropractor after that. You seem like you are in a good place, keep up the great work.
Ooba - yeah this is my last week. I work 4 day shifts and then on end on thursday nite, they want me to come in for one final shutdown to get some extra work done. My boss loves to drink, so I bought him his favorite - a 1.5 ltr bottle of Jack Daniels whisky. Ooba you take it easy on the ankle dude. Going golfing today with my dad, going to make sure I beat him today. Just have to relax and I will be fine. I told him last time the time has come for him to pass the torch. Last time I out drove him, just fell apart on the back nine. Yesterday I talked my son into doing weights with me, we did P90X chest and back. Took awhile to get him to do a proper pushup, but once he did he only counted the good ones. 2-3 years of karate they never cared whether he did pushups right. He actually did good, got him his own tracking sheet to write down his reps. He may be starting to take an interest, I thinnk we have turned a corner finally. Next step is to get my daughter to do any kind of physical activity, basically her thumbs get the most workout with texting, last month the bill said she sent 10,800 texts for April. Good thing the plan is unlimited !!!! |

Hey guys, I'm diving in.
Its been a few years away from LCing for me, and I am feeling the pain. I have been on induction for about 6 days, and all seems to be going well. I have some serious neck issues, so some forms of exercise are out; but I will be doing lots of walking and some resistance training if all goes well with my cervical rehab. Ankle felt better today. Got a light workout in. Good to see a few remember Mandlebaum.
Ken - That's great doing P90 workouts with your son. The added company will definitely give dad some extra motivation. Welcome threenails. Walking is great for fat loss. |

FJSC - Day 19
I believe it is day 19 for the 4th of July challenge - I've been MIA for a few days.
Weight: 175.6 Down a craptacular 1.8 lbs since the start of the challenge. I've been having protein shakes post workout, and maybe the creatine in them is skewing my results. I've also had a few episodes of really hard work thrown in, such as helping my step dad do some concrete work, so maybe my body doesn't really know what to do with itself. I've sorta felt like throwing in the towel. I was really hoping to be below 170 by now.

That's great you did some workouts with your son. I'm sure he enjoys spending the time with you doing that. And no doubt he felt awesome in general from the exercise. Also, keep enjoying times with your own dad. |

Stack - You don't happen to have one of those pegboard climbers like Jim over beastskills has, do you?
I think I'm going to attempt to make one, unless you or somebody else can point me in a good direction for buying one that's fairly cheap. The ones I want are usually in the $250 to $300 range. I'll probably put it on the wall in my garage, so I was thinking of something that is like 3'x3' so I have plenty of sideways movements I can do. I've been wanting one for a few years now. I feel like I need some kind of event to train for that will encourage weight loss and increasing relative strength on BW exercises. I'm thinking about signing up for one of those "Spartan Race" obstacle races in September. I've had mixed feelings about these. On the one hand, I think they're really cool. On the other hand, as a veteran, I don't like the way people go and slog through one of these and think they're some kind of ultimate warrior. There's an 8-mile, 20-obstacle Spartan Race in NJ on September 8-9. Three months to train. I'm going to give it some thought this week. I was kind of itching to do some trail running when I was out hiking last weekend. |

I wouldn't throw in the towel unless you're just really not into it right now. Still more than 4 weeks before the Fourth of July. Maybe do a big overfeed today and tomorrow to rev up your metabolism a little and then hit a hard, strict Induction starting Wednesday?

Quick check in - sadly, no loss to report this week. Eats and exercise have both been very good, however.
Doug - that sounds like a heck of a day! |

I wouldn't worry about the fact that folks think they are ultimate warriors by completing one of these things, I'd just go and show them what awesomeness you can bring to the table. I probably should start running a little. I've probably never run over 3 miles. It's a shame to think that I could probably enter one of those things and do alright on the obstacles, and then end up walking half the race. |

Another good day - ate well and 3 miles on the treadmill. The scale's not showing much, but I'm pretty sure that my gut is shrinking. The scale will eventually follow.
Matt - you'd be surprised how easy you can increase running distance over just a couple of months. If a fatty like me can do 6 miles (which I was doing at ~250), someone like you shouldn't have any problem getting there. Once you get used to doing 2+ miles, increases in distance are pretty easy. Time becomes your biggest obstacle. |

Doing well here. I'm trying to stay off the scale, but I'm feeling really good after fitting into some clothes that got pushed to back of the closet after getting too snug probably over a year ago. I got rid of all my really big clothes long ago, but I still have a big range of clothes. I have pants from waist size 38 up to 44. I'd really love to stop all this up and down. I still have a long way to go to wear the 38's. Those are still comfortably resting in the back of the closet.
