How's it going Cathy?

I saw your post in "what are you eating today?", and it looks like a fat fast. Is that typical of what you are eating daily? So little protein? Have you lost any more ?

Not so good ... but I have not been sticking to my menu so I thought I should go back to posting it. Yes, it is the fat fast and the low protein is intentional. How are you?

My thoughts were to start with a fat fast to get used to the increased fat, then move to increase the protein. I'm spending some time trying to get a handle on HOW to visualize the ptn content of the different meats. I have never counted anything except carbs.

I am maintaining(not gaining) this higher weight with the "higher" carbs(~60) and will wait to change until after the fair. I have to be on the grounds from noon til midnight every day. I will not eat a lot of "fair food", but that is NOT the time to get into something so different.

What are you struggling with? The menu you posted doesn't look like much volume to eat in a day. I have some really tasty recipes for the fat fast.

Ah, I have been cooking and experimenting with recipes and that is dangerous for me as I end up eating too much over all and that inevitably takes me out of my carb comfort zone - want to eat more. It is cyclical for me.

The fat fast is basically what Jimmy Moore has been doing but with an emphasis on grams of protein.

I hate to admit it but I have not tried a fat fast since this epic stall began. If I do it according to Atkins, it also limits calories to 1000. That is not hard for me as I usually come in around that # regularly but the 200 cal snacks instead of meals are going to be challenging I think.

I do Dr.J's fat fast.

I do two 500-600 calorie meals instead of the snacking all day thing. I don't have time to worry about eating every 2-3 hours. I also use pork rinds and cucumbers as fat delivery vehicles.

I have tried the fat fast during my stall, but just emptied my intestinal tract for those three days. I went right back up when I add "waste" to my diet. This time, I will do Dr.J's fat fast for 5 days and then add protein and veggies to that, cut some of the fat and see how it goes.

I may start with a week or 2 of VLC first to get into ketosis before I do the fat fast. I think that will make 5 days of fat easier to stomach.

Just thinking out loud.

I've been following the conversation here and read Jimmy's blog post. I'm in and going to do the high fat experiment with you. I'm aiming for 1500 calories a day total, 85% fat, which would be 142 grams of it. The rest will be about half protein and half carbs -- 30 grams (120 calories) protein and 25 grams (100 calories) carbs. I will probably start on Wednesday. I need to work out what exactly food is going to look like at those ratios. Gnawing on a stick of butter all day? Drinking cream from the carton? Slurping coconut oil out of the can?

Can ya'll post what a day of eating like this would look like ? I keep falling off the wagon like once a week and having a carb fest. Wonder if I did something like this, if it would help me not give in. Lots of stress lately

By all accounts, no. But I'm going to aim for it anyway and adjust as needed.

Cucumber sandwiches

8 oz cream cheese mixed with 1/4 pkg Good Seasons Italian Dressing mix

Load a few cuc slices and eat!
4-200 cal "meals" + cuc cals.

My sausage patties are 170 cal(130 cal from fat) for 2, so I top with cream cheese.
1-200 cal "meal".

Sugar free jello flavor of your choice: Mix with 1 cup hot water, then beat that into 8 oz cream cheese, chill.
4- 200 cal "meals"

My new addition to the rotation will be Ice Cream!

To be honest, most cream cheese and/or sour cream based dips would work for the fat fast. Something made with your favorite herbs and spices with pork rinds for dipping.

Just thought of another idea...Glucomannan chocolate pudding made with almond milk would fit in for bulk with few carbs and calories. Not high fat, just something to eat.

Shirataki noodles with an alfredo sauce could probably be made into a 200 calorie meal.

Another meal for me would be 3 slices of crispy bacon dipped in mayo wrapped in a lettuce leaf. If I combine meals I get 6 slices of bacon...full for hours!

I'm in on this! I've been attempting higher fat / adequate protein / low carb for the past 4 days now. No significant weight results yet but I'm giving it time. (I'm down about a pound and a half but still in my normal fluctuation range.)

Anyways I had this yesterday and it was delicious and summer-y.

1 oz fresh mozzarella
1 tablespoon olive oil
2 tablespoons fresh basil, chopped
4 cherry tomatoes, chopped
salt
pepper

Cals 197
Fat 19 g
Carbs 1 g
Fiber 0 g
Protein 6 g

85.93% of calories from fat
12.06% of calories from protein
2.01% of calories from carbs

And another thing I have been doing is making a big pitcher of unsweet tea, and then making myself a travel mug filled with ice, tea, and 1oz cream. I sip on that while working around the house in the heat.

Thanks for the recipe ideas Dr. J. Yes, lots of thinking and tentative attempting here. Going full-bore starting tomorrow. I'll be posting my experimental progress here.
Elizabeth! The more the merrier in this. We'll get to see individualized formulations and progress with it, and it will help us adjust our approaches.
I drink tons of water, sometimes with lemon, all day long. I like the tea idea. I drink cold coffee with cream, but not tea. I need to get some green tea and make iced tea again and try that.

I ran a sample menu through *********. Only getting in 30grams of protein is probably not going to work. However, keeping it at about 10% of calories will work. Here's what I came up with...
B: coffee with 4 tbls heavy cream and 1 tbls coconut oil.
L: 2 cups green leaf lettuce with 2 tbls ranch dressing and 2 oz white tuna mixed with 3 tbls mayo
S: butter. Yes, just butter, 2 tbls worth. 2 tbls cream with coffee and/or tea
D: one slice meatloaf, 2 cups salad greens, 4 tbls ranch dressing

This comes out to 1544 calories, 15 net carbs, 44 grams protein, and 144 grams of fat.
The percentages are 84% fat, 11% protein and 5% carbs.

Ok, I guess I need to stop posting the 'It's (day of the week), what are you eating'. Someone started a thread on the main board questioning the posts and used my meal plan from yesterday. Of course the usual judgments abound. I am too 'thin skinned' these days and it is really too much!

I hope you all don't mind but I am going to start posting it here instead of the main board. I find it helps me to have my plan set out and makes me a bit more accountable if I post it....

Ive been losing the same 4 pounds for the last two months... Reading the first posts I understand feeling HAPPY for those who lost but a bit of jealousy.. and even anger.. especially when someone has my exact stats and has lost as much as I in less than half the time...

Im still trying to find what WORKS for me... it makes me tired... it depresses me sometimes..

At this point Ive actually lost all love of food... I used to copy recipes from the site.. putting them in my homemade cookbook binder.. EXCITED to give them all a try

Now im thinking I will never be able to eat again... and I know that is just my mind..but at 45... I kinda think.. HEY, you ate what you wanted for 45 years... now you just..ummmm DONT

Thank you Elizabeth. I couldn't do it without my low carb friends but sometimes it feels as if some would rather take a stab at you!! Usually I am a tough but sometimes I take it personally. The over riding message is always the same - 'you are eating too much and lying about it'. That is a tough one for me to take....

I looked over the thread in question. I've had threads go "bad" or seen others threads spiral out of control, and I've had things taken out of context and I've been attacked and I've had mods remove my comments, blah, blah, blah. You just never know when you're going to get into "trouble" around here. It seems like some folks can get away with things other folks can't.

Of course, this thread is a safe place for anyone who has been stalled for a significant amount of time and is frustrated. There is no harsh criticism or judgement here. We're grown ups, we know what to do and we're perfectly good and self-flagellation to need it from anyone else.
