That is awesome! Congratulations! Did it happen by just staying out of the heat, or were there other approaches you tried?

I just managed to lose some inches by dropping water--mostly by drinking vast amounts of water and catching up on sleep. Maybe upping my calories a bit and reducing my intensive workouts helped some, too.

I am finding it really difficult to cut down protein and still keep my net carbs in the 20s. I'd be happy to eat more veggies, but even the nonstarchy ones add up fast. Today I ate a broccoli salad with ham and a high fat (sourcream and mayo) dressing for lunch. That 1 cup of broccoli florets was 7 net carbs, 1/3 of what I wanted to consume for the day. A casserole with 1/4 cup marinara sauce per serving added 7 more net carbs for the no-sugar sauce. At the end of the day, I find my protein still higher than I want (97 grams, when I'd hoped for more like 70) and my net carbs higher than I want (29 grams).

I foresee a lot of celery and avacados in my future, which isn't bad but will get boring eventually. I used to rely on highfat cheeses like brie to fill me up without adding many carbs, but 2 oz brie adds 12 grams of protein along with the 16 grams of fat ...

I should go look at menus of people trying to do a high fat, lower protein diet. Any suggestions for staple foods to get there would be gratefully received by me.

I think it is mostly staying out of the heat as much as I can and getting some much needed sleep. As my long term (>1year) stall buddies know, I have been high carb (50-80g) for the last 7 months. I am back to VLC now and that has something to do with the water loss also. We will see what happens when I get back into ketosis.

This weight I'm losing is all water at this point, not fat.

Cathy, I have been reading about the others who are trying nutr. ketosis. It seems many have been stalled >1yr AND are getting the high morning BG readings we have. It looks like the high morning BG may be because we are REALLY good at gluconeogenesis and not quite in ketosis. They have been losing again once they reached Nutr. Ketosis.

Looks promising.

I really hope this works for you, Cathy. I have learned a great deal from your posts and from your example of not giving up.

I requested that a private e-mail be sent to someone, asking for a higher level of tolerance and civility. I got the response that this person would definitely be contacted, but I see no behavioral change, alas.

Youth and inexperience can cause some people to be very forceful about their opinions.

I hear you! Is it rude to remind some folks that we might have thought of this rather obvious thing? If some folks weren't so closed minded, I would like to have a candid discussion with them but it is all so defensive..... really frustrating. But to be entirely honest, I would probably have believed the same if I hadn't had this experience for myself but I would have called it `carb creep`not calorie creep!

Sometimes I think my stall is some kind of karmic revenge for the things I used to think. I shamefully admit that. I just didn't say it to people.

There is a big difference between thinking it and constantly saying it. This epic stall has taught me more about the science of nutrition than I ever even knew existed never mind that I would learn it. That is the silver lining. And I too use to think things (and perhaps even said them) out of pure ignorance. Not malice, just ignorance.

I want to thank Cathy, Spec, and drjlocarb for their recent responses to various "just count your calories-carbs/eat fewer calories-carbs" posts. I think you were all eloquent, tactful as diplomats, and (outwardly at least) patient as saints!

I'm considering just hanging out in a few challenge groups/threads and mostly abandoning the main board for a while, except to post congratulations or encouragement to people who ask for that. All that "if you'd just ..." self-evident advice is like fingernails on a blackboard to me, and I have had only baby stalls and slow losses to cope with. You all have my sympathy.

Alright, ladies. I'm heading on a camping trip this weekend starting tomorrow, so probably won't be around much unless I am super bored and start surfing LCF on my phone, providing I even get a signal, and even then, posting is not easy on the phone. After my return, and starting on Monday, I shall be back on the high fat, low carb, lowish protein plan with the following parameters: 1500-1600 calories a day; and as close to 85% of calories as fat as I can get, and 10% as protein and 5% as carbs.
It was working for me a month ago (I think) but didn't last long enough on it before I got sick. I suppose I'll post details to the thread dedicated to this experiment. TTYL!

Have fun! Thanks for planning to post details to the experiment thread. I'd appreciate anyone sharing menus or ideas/recipes of what to eat with lots of fat and not so much protein, any results from nutritional ketosis testing, and--I hope--reports of weight lost.

I just got "The Art and Science of Low Carb Performance" delivered to me at work today, so I'll try to have that read by Monday, and order the tracker thingy after that.

I ordered the books and bought a scale today. I WANT to lose some more weight.

I know that I am trying to get into ketosis today. I was at Walmart and could not figure out the money thing and than left a bag of food at the check-out. And peeing every 15 min.

Drj I can certainly identify with the peeing part. Got up 3 times between 8p.m. and 2a.m. to tinkle

I've been doing fairly well with 55-60g of protein and have definitely seen improvement in all blood sugars (check 3x day). Starting today I am decreasing 1 unit of insulin at each meal....and hoping readings stay below 90 in the mornings.

I've been eating Larry's Fridge Fudge to up the fat without a lot of protein. Yesterday I made Linda Sue's Cream Cheese Clouds. I saw Drj post something about pizza cheesecake. How do you make that? Regular cheesecake with what in it - pepperoni, sausage??? I like the sweet stuff I have for added fat, but pizza sounds really good.

Congratulations on keeping your protein at 60 grams or below, Mobear, and on the improvement in your blood sugar readings!

I'm having a tough time cutting down protein and upping fat to desired percentages, so I admire anybody who pulls that off. I have to avoid artificial sweeteners because they make me hungry, so I'm still looking for savory (no sweetener added) ways to up my fat intake. Please keep posting ideas of what you are eating to get your percentages right.

I skimmed part of the Low Carb Performance book this morning, and I'll try to read it carefully by Monday. I notice that two name brands were mentioned for the blood testing monitor. Which one(s) and you using, Kristen and others who have tried them so far? Where did you buy your additional test strips? The book says that they can be gotten for about $2/strip on Ebay; has anyone looked there?

The base for my savory cheesecake is

8oz cream cheese
1/4 c sour cream ( could use yogurt)
1 egg
1 egg yolk

For Pizza, I will add chopped onion, mushrooms, and pepperoni...if I get back to Walmart to get the groceries I forgot to take with me, and top with some pizza sauce. Maybe I should add some oregano to the batter too.
