Why not make LC tuna patties. I make an awesome salmon patty from Dana Carpender's LC cookbook. They would hold together then. Here is the recipe, duh!
1 can (14 3/4 oz) salmon (sub tuna here LOL)
1/4 c oat bran
1 egg
2 scallions, finely sliced
2 TBSP butter

Drain salmon and mash well. Add oat bran, egg and scallions. Mix well. Form into 4 patties (I use an old fashioned ice cream scoop-need to use it for something
Melt butter in heavy skillet over med. heat. Saute' patties until golden brown (7-9 min. per side) carefully turn.

Serves 2 each with 9 gram Carb. and 2 gram fiber for net of 7 gram carb. 47 gram protein.

Tonight I made homemade blue cheese dressing that came from Fran McCullough's cookbook. Yummy!! I am on a roll now. Since I forgot to pack a lunch when I went to work, I ate leftover Jicama, Sweet Pepper and Red Onion salad, a chunk of swiss cheese and handful of almonds around 3:30. Not too hungry yet for supper. May just make a protein shake.

thanks, britt...i'm gonna try that recipe - i never liked hot tuna - like a casserole - but what you described sounds good to me :-)

the pot roast tonight was yummy - had a couple of really small potato and carrot pieces with melted butter - it was all good...i did have a salad later in the afternoon so i was not very hungry at dinner...hope i'm done for the night, but i really did not eat too much at all today...

Those do sound yummo!!!! Thanks for sharing! I found a recipe for Tuna Parmesan patties that i'm itching to try. 1 can of tun, 1 cup of parm, 1 egg, mix, shape, fry. Might be too much on the cheese, have to try it out to tell, but i do love me some Parmesan cheese, so too much might be just right!

The interesting factor of my day is still lacking... I'm drinking water really fast, eating beef jerky, and Googling why belly buttons smell so much.

Obviously i came back from vacation a biiiiiiiiiiit too early...

I get that alot... the life of an over achiever... i make it look so easy... The reality is, if i don't find answers to the universes quirks, it will keep me up at night pacing or rocking back and forth in a ball.

Plus, someone HAS to be the inspector of belly buttons and ear cleanliness... might as well be me. But you must remember to keep my identity a secret!

i see another Federal grant for which I can apply.

How about a $5,000,000 research grant to do an in-depth eflluvium study of belly buttons throughout the temperate zone. For example, which has the more potent aroma-innies or outies? Perhaps 5 mil is too modest a request. I will look further into the possibilies. FF

These tuna and salmon recipes do really sound good. I will have to give them a try!

Vicki, I am so happy you went to the award ceremony and I'm sure your dh appreciated your support. Having the ice water instead of a dessert was very strong of you. We have so many choices to make every day and if we keep making the better choice we will get the results we want. You are already starting to sound upbeat!

Tony, what brand of fiber are you drinking? I might need to add that to my repertoire to help curb my overactive appetite!

FF, good luck on your study. With that kind of research grant you can take an early retirement! Do you watch American Idol too? Am I the only one who doesn't watch it? It must come on later than 7pm. lol

Yesterday was extremely stressful. I was by myself with the real estate agent while he measured the rooms. Out came the questions that I wish he had asked with my two brothers and one of my sisters were all there the day before. Why does this room have a drop ceiling, Is this floor all hardwood under the carpet, and on and on. I could only guess the answers. We lived in Germany and Alabama all the years Dad was adding on to the house here and there. Then I went to the employment place in Keene. I asked the lady what I should bring with me as I had already sent them my resume. She said nothing. Ha Ha Right away she gives me a 4 page application form where you would have to write in addresses, phone numbers, etc of people who have known you or worked with you for 20 years. Fortunately I had brought all that info with me. I wonder how many people show up with nothing. I am a firm believer of giving people all the information they need to get the job done right and help them when they are having to do something that may be a first time experience for them. Anyway they "will call me" if they find something.

So today I am driving to North Bennington to visit the family we grew near until I was eleven. My best friend then drives over from Troy to visit her Mother (like a second mother to us) on Thursdays for coffee. Her sister and some other cousins or brothers may be there and one of my older sister's good friends. The house my Dad and Grandfather built for us is just across the field from them. For years after we moved away the path from our house to theirs was still there in the field. lol

Will check back later when I get back home. Have a great Thursday all!

vicki...I'm so glad you went. I was afraid you'd be filled with regret if you didn't go. Also glad you're feeling stronger. One day at a time.

Blondie...okay, so it sounds to me like you're making a tuna melt without the rye bread?? That sounds sooo good!!

Life will slow down for me starting tomorrow. Looking forward to having time to try new recipes and focus on exercise more. I did walk the dog and pulled weeds yesterday, so I do feel like I burned off some of that extra fuel!! Small appetite like Tony, and I'm taking full advantage of it!!

Have a great day!!

no, i do not watch AI, not w/o Simon anyway....

He was the whole show. i am surprised it is still on. No, I suggest a show based on MY original idea: American IDLE. I would have to take myself out of the running(more properly schlepping) from the begining, as it would not be fair to the HEWMONS. Well, I am now leaning 51% in favor of AC (the city, not the cooling device)for Sat. The 4 PM weather forecast on WQXR FM will cinch it for me one way or the other. Wish me luck. I REALLY want to go!!!

ff, i say "GO!"...what the heck!...you haven't felt up to doing much of anything the past few weekends, and if you don't use it you lose it :-) and i'm not talking slot machines here...see, i may not pun as well as you, but i do try!...lol...

abi, you are soooo organized - good for you!...i'm feeling guilty - maybe this challenge-tally job should be a paid position?...that's a great story about the field...maybe next time you are there, you could post a pic of the house your dad and grandfather built...i'd love to see that...abi, i just threw out the fiber bottle - it may have been benefiber - i know it had no sugar and just dissolved in water - have to get some more!

britt, we are partners in absurdity!...i think i am taking on all the tasks you don't have time for and people are always saying i am one-of-a-kind as well, although that is usually followed by a "thank god' for some reason...hmmmm...for instance, this morning i began a study on the mating habits of the eastern chipmunk - long story...

kbeth, isn't it great when our appetites aren't working against us full-time?...i try to stay prepared for the sneak-attack mine is capable of playing on me at any moment!...exercise sounds good...i watched a dvd the hospital sent to me on hip osteoarthritis and it recommends walking even if it is very painful, so i am gonna try to start doing that...they say it may take 2 months to see improvement from this walking - ouch!...i'm just hoping it is not a practical joke!...soon i will have the pool though :-)

vicki, wishing you another great day today - i know you're gonna have one!!!

be back in a bit

Hey Britt, thanks for the heads up. Now we are all going to get a nice soapy wash cloth and really scrub our innies or outies the next time we bathe

Not much new to report on this end. Scale was up 4 ounces, but it isn't Tuesday yet.

today is Thursday, so it MUST BE a McD night....

but it isn't. Not tonight. I am getting myself a few Sicilian Pizza slices(gonna make myself an offer i can't refuse)pile it with peppers, onions, and sausage, and generously coat it with garlic, oregano and pepperoncino (red pepper flakes), and eat every sub atomic particle, except the crust. As usual, I am doing liquids only during the day. I know now, that when i retire, i shall keep myself very busy during the day, if for no other reason than to stay away from the food. It will be a daytime as well as a late night curfew. Liquids mostly. What i want to do is take 1 or 2 courses at Brooklyn College(I can walk there in 45 minutes, depending on wind direction. so, a guarantee of 90 minutes daily (unless it rains)of walking. Plus the actual time there. they have a great commissary, where i can spread out with a big coffee, and do some last minute review, before i walk into class and make an idiot of myself. But that is the plan to separate me from the food. Actually i am very much looking forward to it. who knows? Perhaps i shall find a HEWMON female who wants a SPLENDA daddy. Anything is possible these days. but, for now the PIZZA!!!

ff, that's a great school that will never be the same once you enroll!

in the no good deed shall go unpunished category:
the scale said 220.4 today, up 2.6 lbs. from tuesday!...i have not even eaten three pounds of food in those three days and have not salted, so i have no idea how that could happen, but i am not discouraged in the least...in the past i would have been and it might have prompted me to indulge just to get back at the scale - smart, huh? - but not now...

it is what it is and i know it will come back down just as quickly if i stick to my plan...whew!...i am so happy i am feeling this way! :-)

how's everyone else doing?

Good thoughts Tony, Good thoughts! I read a great article a while back about fat cells refilling either their volume or size with water after weight is lost, and hangs onto it for a few days. Once the cells realize this is not a life/death situation it flushes the water and shrinks down. So it makes sense, if they filled in mass with water, which weighs more than the same amount of fat in that lil cell body, body size won't change, but weight will... until it flushes out.... I remind myself of this theory whenever i'm up after NO cheating.

I bought these amazing chicken burgers yesterday by Open Nature brand. Looked decent enough, and my goodness they were tasty! Very high in sodium. I woke up 9 hours later looking like i had slugs injected into my eyelids! So they are definitely a lunch time food + plenty of water after each bite, but they have my recommendation if anyone comes across them in your grocers meat department.

I broke down and weighed myself this morning. And i was treated to a 4 lb loss!!! whoop whoop and whoop. Makes me feel good, all that post-vacation weight wasn't exactly fat that i'd put on... which i figured i'd be flushing alot of bloat at first anyway, but numbers and numbers and i'm happy to be back into onederland... not changing my stats yet until i'm adjusting them DOWN.

I was sooooooooo happy cute lil Phil Phillips won American Idol last night. I will buy that album when it comes out. And this is possibly the first season i've watched and didn't feel cheated out of something by the end.

well, i made the commitment. I am going to AC

I pray to the Gods, I wake up in time. I am trying a different casino this time: THE TAJ MAHAL. They give you $35.00 to get you started. No more meal tickets from any hotel/casino. Just as well. Even with the $10.00 coupon, lunch at the TROPICANA was still over $10.00. I will find a cheap place (my 6th sense, like Costanza), and save the difference for........ME. Since I do not go there with gambling as my prime directive, I am certain my time spent will not be AGRAvating. The forecast is encouraging. I should be able to do THE WALK, with the assistance of at least 1 large iced coffee. Talk to you all later. I hope, Artemis, that if u are not posting, that you are at least reading. I hope you are feeling much better. FF

thanks for that info, britt...it is stuff like that, that keeps us from going insane!...

skipped breakfast
had about 3 oz. tuna salad for lunch
had the toppings (peppers, onions and sausage) off three slices of pizza - the dog got the crust

it was a bit salty so i am gonna try to drink a lot of water...don't think i'll weigh for a few days - don't want to climb out on any ledges before tuesday :-0

way to go, vicki!!!

ff, great decision, bro...since i encouraged you to go, if you win a million bucks, i'm hoping you'll buy me one of those iced coffees...i rarely drink coffee (maybe 4 cups year) but you make the iced coffee sound so yummy!

2 hours til curfew and i'm full... :-)

I love iced coffee. I am a coffee FAN. i mean, i need caffeine to function, but coffee is a delicious indulgence. Except i've been out of stevia for a while now, and i typically need a bit of sweetner in the coffee, especially the more bold brews. Before LC, i could get away with a delicious creamer- and boy oh boy those ARE FUN! so many varieties these days too... but i think sweet cream will always be the favorite. Alas, no creamer anymore, just a splash of hwc if i desire it. This coffee talk is making me crave... coffee. And i have to have it iced, to some degree at least. Maybe because it's so hot here all.the.time. a hot beverage does nothing to hit the spots. Plus, much like a good soup, or dose of theraflu, a warm beverage makes me sleepy.

Happy Thursday Night All! t.g.t.i.f....

Had a great time yesterday in the old home town. All the neighbor kids showed up for coffee at their mother's house. The three boys (men) took breaks from work to come by and say hi. My sister's good friend came by too.Tony, I will post a picture at the end of the post of the house Dad and my grandfather built. Newer owners over the years have built on to the back and put the cute front porch on.

Britt, I have heard about the cells filling with water after you lose the fat also, so Tony, that weight gain is just a temporary thing. I love my coffee too Britt. I usually have the french vanilla flavored coffee with cream.

FF, you and Tony with your pizza toppings are making me crave some myself. I have too many leftovers in frig right now so need to eat them up first. Going back to school is a wonderful idea and I bet there will be alot of lovely ladies there for you to have study sessions with.

Tony, hope the walking isn't too painful and does help with the osteoarthritis. Pool weather is just around the corner is you can stand 70 degree water.

Vicki, happy to hear that you have had another good day. One day at a time.

Marilee, that's what I tell myself too as I go up and down everyday on the scale. Just hope it's a down on tuesday!

Beth, glad things will be slowing down for you starting today. Finding good recipes is fun to do.

Have a wonderful Friday all!

abi, what a pretty house!!!...i bet when they built it, your dad and grandad would have been shocked to learn that people from all over the country would be admiring their work in 2012!...

that info about fat cells filling with water may have saved me a lot of yo-yo-ing over the years, had i known it!...lol...

looking forward to a great day...i am making chicken chili in the crock pot and maybe picking up some hot wings somewhere for dinner and may not eat much of anything the rest of the day...

be back in a bit!

TGIF! I am so looking forward to a 3-day weekend. Thank you to all of our courageous vets and active service people!

Well, thank goodness the scale went back down to my last number. Whew! Thanks, Britt, for the info on the fat cells. I wish I had a giant vacuum I could attach to my smelly belly button and suck them all out.

Abi, that house is so cute! I would love to live in it. Your dad and grandpa did a great job.

Way to go Vicki!!!! We knew you could do it.

Tony, may I come over for some chicken chili and wings???? Sounds so yummy!

ff-AC sounds like a blast. I'm glad you decided to go.

Today's eats:

B-bacon and eggs, coffee with HWC and sweetner (I have that every morning, so I forget to report it)
L-small hamburer patty, avocado
D-taco salad....taco seasoned ground beef, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, sour cream and salas with some of the avocado left from lunch. Sounds divine!!!

Man, oh, Man! I wish it were Tuesday!!

I don't usually allow myself to jump on the scale mid-week, but I had a good feeling...and there it was: TWO LBS DOWN. Saweeet! Just gotta hang onto that for 4 more days. Perhaps a friend or two might even join them....?

Britt..ooooh, good info!

vicki...I am still laughing as I picture you holding the vacuum attachment up to your belly button!! Hahaha!

Back for more later. I'm off to be zombie-Mom as my 6 year old shoots me with the nerf gun he got for kindergarten graduation. Yes. Summer has officially begun.

ff and britt, I am a huge coffee drinker, well not HUGE exactly. I drink it only in the morning and then it is typically around 1-3 cups (my coffee mugs) with half and half. I have not acquired a taste for iced coffee though, icky. Oh, Blondie, congrats on the wt loss.

kbeth, I like to try new recipes too. I am known to rarely follow a recipe exactly as it is written. I tweak a lot. Hope you have fun, and please share.

Abi, man, it sounds like you have your work cut out for you with selling the house. How is the job hunt going? You mentioned you got a new grill earlier, what kind did you get? I have used charcoal forever but it is rusting out and am considering a gas grill.

Tony, can you share your turkey chili recipe?

Marilee, so glad to see the scale going in the down direction.

Artemis and DQ, where are you?

I made blue cheese dressing from scratch a couple of days ago, yummy. I am perusing cookbooks to gear up and try new recipes. I will need to get more eggs from my supplier so I can try oopsies again. The yolks could go into a mayo recipe then or a smoothie.

Nothing much planned for the weekend either.

i came rather late to ICED coffee!!!

as a child (here on earth, that is), my aunt used to bring a big thermos of iced coffee in the trunk of her car at funerals and unveilings. I thought it had something to do with death, so I had only hot coffee. Well, I asked her one day, and she said it is only because she liked it, and thought others would too. One day in a very hotday in May at college, the sweat was dripping, no cascading off of me, so i went to the luncheonette across the street. The waitress said iced coffee will fix me right up. that was the beginning of my love affair with iced coffee. The waitress was already spoken for, of course. A very long pre- 4 day weekend Friday. So, after work, i am going to B& N to get my BBC magazine (with the complimentary classical cd).I hope there is 1 left for me. However, that is NOT the only reason i am going. Across the street is 5 guys burgers. I am getting 3 (bunless of course) with tomato and onion. the condiments i will apply at home. I will get back to y'all when i get back from AC. Enjoy the weekend!!! FF
