Happy Monday all,
I am not QUITE 5'4 and today, grrrr 187 but i did drink 2 glass of pinot noir and a vodka tonic (zero calorie zero carb tonic) but I'm not sweating it at all. I have a short squat body, not much of a waist either. I have really big thighs, hated them when I was a kid, but they get muscley nicely and luckily they can quickly turn from cottage cheese to just solid muscle. My dad called me stump when I was a kid...so that should give you a nice visual!! ha This is my 3x week training week. My last full week at home until the week of 3/21. otherewise, i'm traveling at least once a week until 3/21. ugh. Sounds like everyone has a full week ahead of them. probably should go and listen to the meeting ![]() will try to check in with you all later tonight. No 16 year old last night or today so DBF and I will have some more US time which is lovely Sharon

Happy Monday everyone! Happy family day to those who celebrate.
Yesterday was lots of fun, had my mum and DH's mum to dinner. Celebrated time as a family. It was nice. Nice until, my 7 year old DD barfed all over the place. A combination of too much excitement, and probably too many unhealthy food choices over the weekend. (read--my kid is NOT a low carb kid----yet) Hey she was staying with Gramma, so what happens at Gramma stays at Gramma's right? That is until it winds up on my carpet at midmight...... Thankfully we have a steam cleaner so it was cleaned up quick, and then she went back to bed and is no worse for wear today. So, everyone is gone, and DH is re-steaming the carpet and I am heading down to do some laundry and some elliptical. Weigh in day with the Dr. is Thursday, and Saturday night is "Girls Night Out", so I am going to focus on eating as clean as I can this week. Because I want to Partay with my girlies. There will be dinner and dancing, so I figure the dinner part will be easy, but the drinkie part may be a little more challenging. Working on formulating a plan. back Michelle. I am new here myself and look forward to getting to know you too.L8tr all! A |

aw your poor daughter! hope it was just a passing thing from the food choices and not a bug! grandparents sure love to feed all the 'yummy' food dont they? hehe my son's PCA (personal care aid... think wraparound) just gave me a hesitant talk about whether my son's 'poppy' was being a little loose on the rules because of some behavioral issues. we know to be strict but poppy sure doesnt want to follow those rules and make his favorite grandchild cry ever! his solution always involves a cookie!
![]() had a very hungry day today. decided just to go with it instead of being miserable so we shall see what happens. all atkin foods but i had two lunches and just sat down to an extra bowel of veggies that i normally wouldnt have. some days i am just really hungry. and then i have been getting nauseous and not wanting to eat on other days. who knows...hmmm maybe ill have another coffee, like yesterday. it really does make my mood lighten up, seems like i just strongly respond to caffeine in that way. like my whole output on life can change. is that strange?

Morning. Woke up this morning to about 2-3 inches of HEAVY WET SNOW..yuk. Took me about 30 minutes to clear the little bit of sidewalk I have (love city living) but my driveway is in an alley and that is always a bugger to shovel. About half way through I thought..god, last year, this would have killed me. Now, i was sweating and huffin and puffin but not critical. That gave me a moment of yeck yeah!
![]() Last night had a nice dinner out with DBF. Went to a place not far from the house. Chef owned and run, always nice to go to the non-chain places. Had a NUMMY roasted chicken. Had to eat around the bacon/scallion rissoto. god, love me rissoto, but not quite ready to dig into those kinds of carbs. In bed at a decent hour, slept really good and ready to great the day. Planning on eating well today. A decent brekie for sure. got my training session tonight so need the energy. Congrats ASD on rocking your test!! I know DD loves it when her grades are posted timely. She had a mid term yesterday and one today. And I totally get those hungry days. Back in the day, i used to have a huge whooosh of weight loss the day after a hungry day. Hope that holds true for you.. Anita, glad you had a great holiday, sorry it ended the way it did. Always did have a gag reflex whenever someone vomits in front of me. made my young kid days haried at times! Hope everyone else is well. Jo enjoy your trip into town, Cowgirl...hope your shakin went well!!! hahahhaaa here's to tuesday.. |

Happy Mardi Gras! ![]() Great going on your tests, asdf! I have more good luck handy to wish to you whenever you need it! And to Neeters and her dd! Hope she's well now!Sharon, shovelling snow? Your supper sounded great! Good going on resisting the risotto! The shaking worked - got rid of the .5 pound that had crept back on me the day before! I'd better try it again! Especially since tonight is my night out with the "girls" -- my Red Hat sisters. We're going to a Chinese buffet. Let's see how good I can be! ![]() Have a great Fat Tuesday, everyone! ![]()

Happy NO PANCAKES Tuesday!!
Thanks for all the well wishes for my daughter. Basically, the reason for her illness came down to poor food choices. Too much sugar, and not enough of the good stuff. This usually only ever happens when she's had too much. I'd like to say lesson learned, but she is only 7 so likely not. I can only hope that I am setting something of a good example by forcing the issue of healthy proteins and carbs. Time will tell. Wet and miserable here today in the GTA. (that's Greater Toronto Area) for those of you not familiar. No snow here today only rain. skay, I love shovelling snow, but it is hard work, and it's awesome when you realize how much easier it is to do when you are healthy. Tex- hope your night out with the girlies was awesome. Chinese buffet can be hard, and hope you were able to stay strong. asd--Great news on those tests!!! Keep up the good work. GJo-- Hope your trip was awesome!! Can't wait to hear the deets. Heading to bed soon (after Parenthood--my favourite show) so that I can hit my basement gym early in the am. 2 more days till weigh in with the doctor. It looks as if the scale is moving in the right direction, and maybe just maybe the doctor will let me move to Phase 2 of the diet. Not so sure how I feel about that though so maybe it's for the best if I stay on Phase 1. The diference between Phase 1 and 2 is the net carbs. Phase 1 is less than 20 g per day and Phase 2 is less than 30 g per day. Anyway I think the prerequsite is that you've had to lost at least 10 pounds of fat on the first phase before moving to the second phase. Last edited by Neeters; 02-21-2012 at 06:19 PM.. |

Pancakes... I"M so craving those... but I refuse to eat them..
I think all of our kids make bad food choices, I blame my eating habits for my daughters weight. IF I had only set a better example she would not be as heavy as she is now. I am changing my self, and she is now losing so WERE both on the right track. You daughter will learn by your example so try to set good ones. Were having record highs here this year. NO snow, just rain and VERY warm weather. I think I will be able to go for a nice long walk on Thursday for it is suppose to be in the high 68... MY DR. keeps sending me to more DRs to see if they can figure what is wrong but I think that it is stress and I am getting better every day.. I went to a women dr today,,, SHE said everything was great, however I am not producing enough female hormones so we shall see where that goes. The DR said I weigh 199 lbs... SO that is 11 lbs gone.. YEA!!! Loving the GYM, seems like I can not spend enough time there. Have a great day everyone |

Good luck tomorrow, Neeters, at the doc's appt!
![]() Yayyy, for Bethin's 11 pound loss! That's amazing!!! ![]() Tonight was fun with my Red Hat sisters -- 11 of us there in full regalia -- hats, feathers and all sorts of frou-frou and having a great time. I tried to stick with good food choices -- no fried rice or egg rolls, although I love them both, but there were lots of better things to have! I have a lacy party dress I want to fit into (I'm almost there!) for next month when we go to the fanciest restaurant in town. I'll have to stay good for a month for that dress! ![]() Good night ladies! ![]() |

Seems there are a lot of LOSERS here!!!
congrats to everyone. that is awesome BeThin!! 11 lbs man that feels awesome. hear ya about the gym. It becomes another obsession doesn't it? i know I felt funky not going yesterday but our bodies NEED days off. Cowgirl..I don't have the willpower yet to tackle chinese food. One of my favorites. One nice thing there are options but none of the ones I especially like! DBF kept suggesting chinese and italian yesterday. For the most part, we can eat wherever, just some places are EASIER than others! really struggling with a pulled quad muscle. one nice thing it doesn't affect everything. did some core work, squats and shoulder presses, those nasty bicep/tricep dip things and something called renegade. (push up position, 15lb weight, you lift the weight with one hand and you balance on your other hand (plus legs) man, that was wicked. the cardio after was tough due to the quad. I did the treadmill between 6-10 incline and walked slow. Having my son and mother over tomorrow night. Son called requesting beef stew and chilli. I'm making spaghetti squash for myself. Trying to figure out when I can kick them out so I can go to the gym. I may need an intervention!!! hahahhaa glad everyone is doing well. Anita, anxious for you for your appt. I hope he clears you to the next phase. I'm still freaky about my carbs but I'm slowly adding some apples and other "good" carbs in. Some days my carb counts are high but I keep thinking. Apples? Orange Peppers? do people really get FAT from these? I think not. so I'm trying to not obssess too much about good carbs. finishing up some laundry and maybe hit the sack. I'm tired and i'm not tired all at the same time.. until tomorrow friends. Happy Fat tuesday to those who celebrate! Sharon |

hey sharon, everyone has addictions, exercising is probably one you can feed for awhile
spaghetti squash- how do you prepare it? and an apple sounds great, i wish i wasnt stalled so much so i could experiment but im just too scared to since im not really losing. funny though, i really like being on this diet- im not losing but im feeling better about myself and my mood is generally better too. i do wish the weight would come off but the other benefits make me hesitant to change... what do you guys think? think i should stick to this? My stats are: started Jan. 5th, lost 13-14 lbs since but the first 6 happened the first week or so. not much notice in clothes at all. better mood. better energy (sometimes). do not feel very restricted....please give opinions! just curious what others think... Texas cowgirl, your Red Hat group sounds like fun, can i join?!? (well, im 27 but that still sounds like so much fun!) ![]() BeThin, about the female hormones thing- what does that mean exactly? how how would that affect you negatively? and thats good about your daughter- one of the things i worry about if i ever have a daughter- body image. im very insecure and thats exactly how my mom and older sister was too. then again, i was always a shy child so maybe i would have turned out that way too. but i have a memory of me being extremely young and bawling my eyes out because the scale was broken and i weighed 85 (i was around 70lbs at the time, dont know the age but you can see how young that is by the weight!). that memory always stays with me because it seems so 'wrong', looking back... anyway, hope everyone has a great day! im going to have two GREAT diet days before my goal on friday and if i succeed in that i have told myself that i wont get upset that i dont reach the goal because i tried my hardest. wish me luck! I guess the biggest thing they are worried about is how much Calicum and other viatimins I loose by not having enough hormones in my system... Concern that it will start hurting my blood vessels, bones, and eyes faster.. I guess most women have a level of homones in their system until they reach 55 or older before it drops. MINE is lower than a 65 years old now. I guess I am older on the inside than on the outside.
They are so concern that I will loose muscle strength and are hoping that I AM building a muscle at a gym. So I guess there is a lot of concern but nothing life threathing... Body image for a girl is very important, but they always follow mommys direction. SO, I don't say anything to my 18 year old, I just tell the WHOLE family what I am doing.. Going to the GYM, they see my food journal on the table now.. WITH my NOT saying anything,,, My daughter is now working out with a GIRLFRIEND, and said yesterday that she lost 5 lbs. SO good for her. OFF to take my mother to the Dr... then the gym.... Have a great day everyone,,, Keep losing. |

ASD: I hear you about the lack of movement on the scales. I know I've struggled with thinking about tweaking my diet as well, but like you, I feel so much better on this WOE, i know I look leaner/not a carb flabby! I watch the posts from others about doing the high carb one day, low carb the next, but then I say, can I maintain that?
So I'm not sure I have the right answer. I just am starting to think, how can I do this for the rest of my life? do I want to NEVER have coffee in the morning(heck no!) do I never want to have wine, or fresh fruit..no, no, no so I'm thinking, what choices can i make that are good carbs. I'm staying away from the wheats/grains right now and incorporating veggie/fruit carbs, for the most part. I have a lot of weight to lose. I'm thinking my final goal will be 145..that's a lot of weight left to lose, but I'm trying to keep my head on my shoulder and remember, it all won't come off in one month. I'm 46 so it's going to come off even slower. I think the answer is whatever you decide, and then stick to it. I think the key is whenever you do add something, just do that one thing for a while to see how it impacts you, how you feel and that dreaded scale (been staying away from it, may hop on it on Friday) I do totally hear the frustration. I'm there almost everyday. But I do notice it in my clothes for sure. pants are fitting better and actually some of my shirt are now too, so I'm losing inches (which most people say to measure yourself so you have another way to see your success!) for you on friday and your goal. I am right there. I swear, if I see 187 again I'm going to probably go ballistic! ![]() the trainer last night told me..the weight is NOT going to melt off you. cuz i told her I really thought with this intense training it would just simply fall off..she just said, you know now it not right? hhhaaa yeah, almost a solid month of doing the 2-3x week training. 5 days a week exercise and yeah, i've seen the scale move? NOT.. Good luck, seriously. I think the battle is in our heads. If you find any helpful hints, do share. I know there are a ton of threads in the lobby about how to break a plateau. Sharon |

Just checking in....
Hi everyone !!
Sounds like we are all going through the same problems ! I guess that is to be expected with a group of women trying to lose these darn unwanted pounds ![]() While I was sick all week with that stupid stomach virus ( why oh why do I keep catching everything that comes along ????) I have not lost any weight STILL !!! I go to a new Dr. today and will have my yearly checkup and labs drawn this week. Very interested to see if my cholesterol etc.... blood sugar, have improved with this exercise and weight loss since last labs. We shall see..... Want to get off my bp med and I took myself off my cholesterol med a few months ago cause I want to see my #s without meds..... don't do what I do. Nurses are the WORST patients ! Feeling so much better, actually ate twice yesterday with no trips to the potty ! Thought I was gonna have to buy adults diapers .... ![]() On the subject of adding to diet, I do like to eat cantelope and grapes every day or two with the low carb. Helps with the sweet tooth and while I was losing steadily , it didn't seem to affect me ! Not sure about everyone.... hoping to get right back on diet now that I feel better... was just eating crackers and bread to settle stomach so I guess I'll have the low carb "flu" getting back clean but that's OK ! WE CAN Do THIS !!!! |

everyone! Nana, I'm glad you're feeling better and back with us! Good luck at the doc's appt. ![]() Many of us have been riding this roller coaster up and down lately. I still say it's the muscles we're building that causes the weight gain! ![]() Sharon, I had to leave off the fried rice and eggrolls, both of which I love, and choose mostly stir fried things. The buffet also included Mongolian stirfry and there were lots of healthy choices, even fresh fruit for dessert. Even with a heaping plate and a second trip for dessert, I managed to hold yesterday's weight! Asdf, we've had "Princesses" or "Pinkies" in our group before, and we'd love to have you! They have to wear pink and lavender to our activities until they hit the Magic 50 and "Reduate" into the magnificent red and purple colors! Some chapters are composed entirely of Pinkies. We do have a lot of fun -- besides attending plays and eating out, we've gone on shopping trips, concerts, cornfield maze, gocarts and bumper cars (we were a sight at those! ) arts and crafts shows, mansion and garden tours, limousine rides and haywagon rides, just about any activity we want a friend -- or 11 -- to attend with us! ![]() Heading for the exercise room -- I'll catch up with y'all later! |

I'm BACK !!!!
Well, I just returned from Dr's office. Really liked this Internal Med Dr. He was very thorough... concerned that all my lab tests in the past had my Bs above normal, but we will repeat and see what my results show now. BTW, he asked how I lost he weight !! Funny cause the channel in the waiting room was talking to diabetics about checking labels and avoiding FAT, eating low fat low calorie !! hahahaha
I told him I stay away from the dry carbs, but I eat fruits and veggies. He seemed receptive to that. ![]() I would love to be a PINKIE !!! I'm 47 and the closest I have is a girl's group from work- we play bunco once a month ( tomorrow night) !! It is such fun to get together and laugh, eat, drink and play games ! ME TIME Fixing to head to nursing home to see my Dad ( alz/dementia) ... that's a major stressor in my life... he's only 70... lost my Mom years ago in a car accident. She was my best friend ![]() OK, well,.... making me sad so I will say see ya later to all ..... |

I'm back and everyone sounds great!! I didn't get a second to check in while I was away. Bethin But after 4 games of bowling we went into a store to get drinks . I bought a bag of BBQ peanuts that were calling my name and it wasn't a single serving bag, and I of course ate them until they were all gone. Not the worst thing but I know better then to give into cravings. On the train today I had split pea soup for lunch another food I would normally never eat so my carbs are going to be up today. Back at it tomorrow because I feel off now. Back at my exercise tomorrow as well. But on a great note I needed pants for work and for the first time in years I fit into a size 16 slim (slim meaning smaller in the hips and butt) they fit perfect so I bought two pairs. Friday is my birthday but we are going with a menu of shrimp, scallops in bacon, wings ! On Saturday we are going to Duck Unlimited dinner, yaaa a adult night out![]() . I asked what the menu was but no one seems to know but I am sure there will be salad and chicken, or at least I hope. Still have to unpack and get ready for the next few days but I wanted to drop in and say Hi! I hope your all having a good day and that you take time to spoil yourself a bit. I know I did yesterday and 14 days until we are off on vacation to Nova Scotia!! Can't wait, talk later guys and have a great evening![]()

Hey everyone! Hope your hump day is going swell!
Never made it to the basement gym this morning. I felt my time was better spent with my pillow getting some much needed but I will be back at it again tomorrow morning.![]() Tomorrow is weigh in day and I've been re-reading Dr.Poon's book to see if there is anything I need to tweak in my own personal WOE. A lot of Dr. Poon's diet is based on carbs and the glycemic load that they have, and I learned something interesting. Apples have 18 grams of net carbs per serving and carry a glycemic load of 6.9 and carry a rating of 38 on the glycemic index. On the other hand......Two Oatmeal cookies have 12 grams of net carbs per serving, carry a glycemic load of 6.6 and are rated 55 on the glycemic index. ![]() So to answer your question Skay, yes, it is possible that even the good carbs can be not as good as we might think. Of course, the vitamins, and fibre in an apple still make it a better choice, but you can imagine that too much of a good thing, might not be such a good thing. KWIM? asd--Hang in there my friend. For what it's worth, I've been following my WOE since December 9th, and have lost about 15 pounds. I've been stalled for quite some time, but, I still feel pretty awesome. I try to focus on the little things. Things like walking past the vending machine at work and not intensely wanting to smash a hole in the glass and eat until I'm ![]() It is a difficult journey at times. But losing weight fast is not the best way to g o. I've been that route and the bounce back just ain't any fun. I'm finally seeing some movement on my own scale, but it's been a battle. An honestly, I likely won't see anything else again for a while. It's like a pattern for me , Stall, stall, stall, Lose. Stall, stall, stall Lose. Frustrating yes, worth throwing in the towel?? Not so much. WE CAN DO THIS. My personal mantra, and is available to anyone who chooses to use it is. Let your Determinaton be your Motivation Sometimes it's the only thing that keeps me going. (Until I met all of you that is..... ![]() |

welcome back GJo and shelby!
GJo, could you pack some food while you are in town? or is going out to eat part of the fun in the trip for you and your son? maybe you could make a plan then, like know the places you will be around and figure out ahead of time what you can order. only reason im suggesting is because i know you said this was a weekly thing so i dont want you to stop your great losing! well today i am 171.4, i had a weigh in with another thread. so i would have to lose .6 lbs by tomorrow to meet my goal of getting to 170 sounds like nothing but you guys see my weight loss pattern- .6 takes me like a week! eh, maybe ill have something magical happen. and yess i know its not such a HUGE deal not to make a goal by such a slight number... but it IS to me. i set my goals low because i know how low i lose. so not making them is pretty sad to me. and worries me about the next goal. i went back and saw on feb 1 i was 173... yet in one month im trying to get to 165 for my birthday? seems like im setting myself up ![]() lets just see what happens... shelby im so sorry about your dad. alz/dementia runs in our family and is pretty severe. my pop had it at a relatively early age and then my uncle who passed got it quickly and severely too.... so of course i worry about my dad who is doing fine at 60 but then again, i dont know if his normal forgetfulness is the beginning signs or just being a normal 60 yr old has it been a slow process for your dad? please hang in there and make your dad happy any way you can- and dont forget about yourself too...neeters, thanks for the encouragement. although i wish you were losing faster too, its nice to know not everyone loses quickly, or even a normal pace! have you gone off plan alot? i really dont. i may eat alot on certain days because im hungry which doesnt help the scale of course but the damage is so extreme! i havent even touched a grape! its actually amazing to me how well i have been avoiding foods that are completely off plan. my biggest cheat is 1 serving of SF candy every other day which i might say was causing me to stall but i was stalled before then too- theres no pattern... |

Morning all....
I'm sleepy this morning too Jo. I stayed up to talk with DBF last night when he got home to go over some issues he's having with his daughter and ex wife. Oh, relationships can get so complicated (especially when you throw in a 16 year old female!) went to bed about 12:30, woke up when he came to bed at 430. fell back asleep after 5, alarm at 7:10...yawn... then I did it ladies... stepped on that (insert fav curse word) scale. Okay, a day early is all...I'm up AGAIN. I read all the posts, read all the google searches and everyone says, with weight training and cardio you may not lose pounds but lose inches. Well that's all fine and good but I NEED TO LOSE BOTH ![]() breathe.... settle. Thank you for letting me vent. so i go back to my original thought. Maybe the carb restriction isn't compatible with exercise.. (but then I see BeThin..) so do i lower fats, add some good whole grain carbs with my fruits and veggie? ACK you know, no matter where you ask that question (as we do to each other ALL the time) you will get as many answers as people you ask. So I keep TRYING to say to myself...do I feel better (YES) do I look better (YES) should i take a "chill pill" and just get over the scale (YES) easier said than done (YES) urg... well, it is thursday. my quads are sore, having a training session tonight with the trainer who likes to do weight lifting. Kind of excited to do that again. Will really work on my attitude today. thank you for being here to listen to me whine.. Sharon |

Asd I did have a plan but by the time we got there on Monday night it was 1 am and we had the next day for his appointment, all our shopping and then bowling and left to come back at 6:00 am the next morning. I think being tired out made me crave things I would normally not eat. I will have to be more careful when I am out. We go out once a month and it is fun to go out to eat but today I am bloated and feel like crap so its not worth it. Clean eating and lots and lots of water for me today. Your almost at your goal hang in there and you never know what could happen over night. Either way you are doing great!!
Sharon we are all different and what works for one might be different for others. You are training hard and only good can come from that. You will figure it all out! I know you are getting impatient but hang in there and if you need to change something go ahead its whatever works for you. Whined away thats what were here for to support each other. Everyday can't be perfect! Take care of yourself and hit the weights hard it will help with your mood. |

Hey all!
Quick post. Went to Dr. today and am down 6 pounds since February 6th!! That makes a grand total of 17 pounds since December 9th. So if my pattern proves to be right, I should be heading into a plateau. I see the Dr. again on March 12th, so we shall see. That was the good news. The bad news (I guess....) is that I am staying on Phase 1. Dr. said, that my BMI must be at 35 before I can start Phase 2 and my BMI is 37.5 today. But when I started it was 40.2. |

Hey Ladies ----
Slept in this am -- stayed up too late on the computer again Scale down 137.5 !!! Finally went down ! Tonight is Bunco with the ladies and although I usually have a glass or 2 of wine, tonight I won't.... scale finally moved, so i'm not messing with a cheat. Also, on another thread, I committed to NO CHEATS till March 6th !! Hoping that will keep me accountable...... Dr. wants me to come back in a month and discuss labs, so I would like to be 133.5 ( that would be 40 lbs ! ) I have been doing the WOE since July and that would be so awesome ![]() Thanks all of you who commented about my Dad, yes it is very hard.... gets me down sometimes, but I go see him 2-3 days each week and visit and take snacks ( he loves his snacks, wonder where I got that from )God's blessings to you all ! Have a Great Day ! |

Well I went to Bunco with the girls tonight after DH and i did our taxes at CPA and went to walmart - needed new battery for my car.
Right after I got there at the party, a friend was really rude and sarcastic to me - not sure why - and she put me in a snit !!!! I acted like I didn't care, but it totally ruined it for me.. She was probably kidding, but I hate it when someone ruins your day ! Ugh.......All they had that I could eat was lunch meat and cheese, so I came home and made myself Grasshoppers Staying up late again, watching TV with DH and DS.... we all work nights tomorrow night so we will sleep in. Kinda proud that I didn't give in to chips and sandwiches and wine ---- usually if I'm in a bad mood;....... I really put the hurt on that kinda stuff ![]() Night y'all ! |
