Good job Cee Cee!!!

Iam- it is me, hooligan and Texas Mommy, the 3 of us are the new non smokers!!!

Yes a stability ball is a wonderful way to strengthen your core, I debated bringing one in here to sit on, and that is a good reminder to do that! I like Pilates too, and my first class I felt like I was hit by a freaking truck I could not believe how sore I was!

I know Seth is an animal, I think I get up early!!! That boy is the energizer bunny!

Well I didn't do too much damage yesterday. Up 1 lb but that could certainly be water weight anyway. Now I am hoping it will kick start me! No cravings and no thought of being off plan today (yay).

Hello Badgers,

Yep, I think I'm on Day 5 No Smoking. Still using my E-cig.

I was hungrier more than usual yesterday and today as well.

Today's Plan:
b- 2 eggs scrambled in butta with cheddar
l- chili and 1 cheese stick
d- hamburger patty with onion cream gravy and broccoli
water and coffee

I will go to the gym after work. I have completed my two week free trial, so I will have to now cough up the money and join.

Good Morning All!

Thanks for the advice on the avocado! Still can't believe that I got one in my local store! But it is green and hard as a rock so will have to wait a few days. I am reading Gary Taubes book - Why We Get Fat and What To Do About It. Very interesting how the food pyramid changed. Lots of information on how the insulin screws us up.
Did you guys hear the stuff about Paula Deen (sp?) being diabetic? How disappointing that she is now working for a pharmaceutical company. Would love to have her recipes converted to low carb!
Good going on the losses, Badgers!

WItty- yes I wanted to mention that yesterday, she is really getting beat up and rightfully so, she should be the one leading the path for delicious sugar free treats, not just take another pill and keep eating junk! I like Paula but that was disappointing to hear. Wait til your avo is brown all over and a little soft to the touch all over, but not too soft, then it is too far gone, I sit my on my window sil, or a brown paper bag helps to ripen them. Taubes books are hard reading but very insightful to say the least!!!!

Happy Tuesday, Honey Badgers!

Seth, congratulations on your Day 1 success. And isn't it nice to get a better workout than one was planning?

Tisha, great job! I'm glad the scale is moving for you.

Amber, hooligan and Cass, keep going, girls! You're doing great!

Iam, that's a great way of looking at a "cheat."

Cori, two pounds is better than no pounds. Embrace it!

Cassidy, 3 miles in 32 minutes = you rock.

Amber, my daughter's 6th grade class uses stability balls instead of chairs at school. On curriculum night I almost killed myself trying to sit on the darned thing!

Cara, I'm glad you enjoyed your special dinner and the damage is negligible.

Witty, I love the Gary Taubes' books. It's nice to understand the science behind the way we eat. Having that knowledge makes me less likely to stray from low carb.

There are fabulous smells in my house today. I'm making pulled pork for dinner using a slow cooker recipe I found on some paleo site that has tons of different spices in it and it smells soooo good. If it tastes half as good as it smells my future will include a lot of pulled pork. And I'm going to use an avocado (guacamole) with it! I got on the scale this morning (so much for only weighing once a week) and I'm the same as yesterday. I did 90 minutes on the elliptical yesterday, plus some strength training, so maybe I'm retaining water and I'm really an ounce or two lower today. I'll keep telling myself that...

Mary do strength training first and a lot of it, and then cardio on elliptical that way you burn up your glycogen and are in fat burning mode when you do the elliptical, really 90 minutes is a lot for that, would be better to go on higher level or more hills for shorter time

Taking avocado out of fridge and placing in a paper bag. Sometimes, I am so out of touch!
Mary if that recipe is good - please post. I love pulled pork but haven't found a sauce I dare use to make it!

Amber (or anyone else who's a gym rat), what kind of strength training do you do? I don't go to a gym, but we have a big a** weight machine in the basement (Vectra On-line 4850) that has 4 weight stacks and is, for me, kind of intimidating. I'm not sure what the best things to do on it are. One of these days I've got to get my husband to show me, but he's not particularly helpful. So if you tell me the exercises/machines you find most helpful, I can probably figure out how to do it on mine. I didn't do my 90 minutes on the elliptical consecutively - I did 45 minutes, then half an hour, then 15 minutes at different times. I did hills for the half hour and a random program for the 15 minutes, but you're right, I could probably increase the level. For the 45 minutes I programmed the elliptical to keep me in fat burning mode, so it was determining the level based on my heart rate. I've always done cardio before strength, but I'll try it the other way and see how that goes.

Welcome Melanie! Congrats on being three weeks strong!

Afternoon workout burnt another 675 calories so my total burnt today was 1350. I feel pretty good about that. It adds a little comfort since I had a serving size of mashed potatoes today at lunch. We'll see how it goes in the morning.

Melanie- yes you can join, you need to add your weights to the chart, I will post here, fill in what you can, we will call you Happy2be since we have another Melanie!

Seth good job I am sure you burned off a few potatos!!!

Mary- It looks like a good cable machine, cable machines are great you use so much resistance due to the length of the cable and they make it that the weights are not so heavy to pull around and stuff, you can do a whole body workout on that, hubby will have to show exercises and how to position yourself correctly, I bet you can get a guide on line or something, you can do shoulders, arms, legs, squats, leg presses anything pulling and pushing weight is strength training, and that is what builds muscle! That thing is nice, I want a fancy home gym so bad, but first I need a new house, LOL
You always want to do cardio after weights since the lifting burns more glycogen from the muscles after that is gone, your body goes to your fat reserves, that is why they say fasted cardio first thing in the morning is so good!!!!

Yeah, Amber, we have a really nice basement gym setup - the Vectra, an additional incline bench for situps, a Life Fitness elliptical, a True treadmill, Wii Fit, DDR (not that I'd ever have the coordination to do that) . . . and I'm so pathetic that even though it's been down there for about 8 years, I've been upstairs, being fat, not using it. But I'm using it now. After all, I'm a honey badger now. Gotta be ready to slay the snake.

I have a gazelle, treadmill, air bike, total gym & inversion table along with an infrared sauna...want to come play? But it is all folded up during the renovation & I hope there will be room to set up equipment in the garage when family moves in. Correct that I WILL MAKE ROOM in the garage!

Avocados - major weakness! I could eat 3 or 4 a day! They are healthy but not the way I would consume them! Never tire of eating them so they are NOT allowed in my house!

Today is day 3 of PP & I have ZERO appetite! Had the rest of the meatza around 1=; & completely forgotto eat breakfast. Has to be at a schoolplay 0 6 so by the time I got home it was too late to eat- ate a piece pf pepperjack cheese & I am full. Might force drink a quart of kefir & turn in. I finished my painting downstairs today (Only thing remaining is carpet.) so will paint the inside of the front door tomorrow & the living room & kitchen will be finished save the carpet. Then just the three bedrooms upstairs & bath then carpet can go in through out the house & 3 more new windows to be finished. I am about half there! Yeah!!!!

Amber thamks for the info on how to burn at the gym-didnt know one should do strength before csrdio! I will pass thay along to DS he needs all the help he can get but until he puts the CANDY down he may not go anywhere buut to a diabetes clinic & that thought terrifies his mom but not me! I have confidence in my Master that if it takes that diagnosis for him to "get serious and not just talk about being serious" - whatever it takes for him to loose & get healthy. I avoid saying much but maybe a heart to heart (with tears cause he can't resist them in ladies) is what I need to do.

Sure! Anyone is welcomed to take a road trip and come use the sauna or anything else! I bit the bullet & bought it a few years ago to help with fibro pain (really helped me through a bad 1st winter with it) but have the downstairs so torn apart haven't touched it all winter. Don't need it in the summer as KY gets hot & humid like a "steam sauna" so I just have to walk out my front door and there I am- a FREE sauna!

TO OUR 3 NON SMOKERS! Bravo!!!!! Keep on cleaning your lungs & body! I hear within 24 hours the body is on a correction path & the lungs are already healing themselves. Aren't our bodies created wonderfully? Just thine! Each one of us are our own little emergency repair shops if we don't let things get too broken! AMAZING!

New low for me today. Haven't seen this # since my 30s. Not too excited though as I have just done 3 days PP. Today will be PV as I am craving vegies! Wonder what the 150s would be like for this old body....Hmmmmmmm!

Morning Honey Badgers! Workout number one is done and I'm getting ready for work. Scales show no movement so Day 2 of the experiment was a success. I'm excited about that, hopefully this is a way I can maintain in the long run. Smaller portion sizes of what I'm eating is kind of a bummer, but I'm getting used to it I think. I still have the mindset of a heavy eater, not sure that will ever go away.

Hope everyone else has a wonderful day.

AFM ~ Just got to work after my morning swiming and I feel great! Well other than smelling like a pool. I shower and use lotion but the smell doesn't come off. Any suggestions? The exercise has made me sleep better which is great!! Here is my menu today...

Breakfast ~ quick hard boiled egg and string cheese
Lunch ~ left over beef tenderloin with salad
red pepper and hummus snack
Dinner ~ probabay chicken fajitas with lettcue wraps.

What is everyone up to on hump day?

Good Morning Badgers

188.4 today. Down almost 1lb since mon. I'm determined to see at least 187 by the next weigh in. I had a major attack of the munchies last night, but I resisted and had a coffee instead.

I opened a children's party business with my sister back in the fall, and finally booked our first "real" party! So I've been really busy with that lately.

Ceecee- What is Gel polish? Is it similar to shallac (really hard) or more like tips?

Seth- I'm glad your experiment is working. It's hard to adjust to the smaller portions your body actually needs. I constantly have to remind myself I don't need the huge portions I take out of habit.

Happy2Be- Welcome!

Have a great BAHB Day!

Happy Wednesday all,

Working off my weekend partying bloat still and happy to report I'm down 5 lbs since Monday, Will post weight next week when I'm hopefully at same weight or below. Boy does it suck to have a few goodies, and certain things with salt in them totally skyrocket my weight now!!! (pepperoni, triscuits, etc.). DH also gained 5 and now he's already back to his fighting weight. Boy we were so freaking ticked off, arggh!!

Anyway, I'm eating on plan and did the gym on Mon & Tues night and walked at lunchtime yesterday....and drinking loads of water and green tea.

Today is a potluck lunch buffet going-away party for a co-worker. I have brought in a bag of romaine leaves as I plan to select LC items and wrap 'em up in those. There will be a lot of carb crap like pasta salad, mac n cheese and American chop suey (elbow pasta/tomato sauce/ground beef ecch), rolls and bread, but this ticked off BAHB wont do the carbage no way. I will practice my reconnaissance tactics first to a) observe the selections and b) make my smart choices and c) one plate, no seconds, no dessert....

Have a good one everyone - stay on your plan today, and all you new non-smokers - congratulations, you are doing great and it is so worth it!!

Kristen ~ Congrats on your 1st party!! I am curious what you do for your party business? Is it planning or actually running the party? Hooligan and I would be great party planners! I can decorate and she could make the cakes! That would be FUN! Keep us posted!

Large portions is something I have trouble with too. High sodium foods add several pounds of bloat that takes a couple days to recover from, so I stay away from processed foods with high sodium. I can eat bacon with no problem though (thankfully!!)

I am not weighing until Monday, but I am really hoping to be 207 then.

Amber, wait until summer and you can swim in the pool and lounge in the hot tub, also! Since no one else will work out with me, I could use a buddy. But you definitely don't want to be in Chiwaukee (midway between Chicago and Milwaukee) in January. i grew up in Pennsylvania and I assure you that the weather here is worse.

IAM- a new low that is wonderful!!!! Show your son some pics of diabetics that have lost limbs from the disease or worse their eye site, that is one nasty disease and when I heard insulin resistance I was like OK that is getting close to diabetes, it is hard when we are young we think we are so invincible, but aging is going to happen and so is disease, and we might as well prevent what we can, I think of how much damage I did to myself just smoking, let alone carrying all that weight, but every less pound, every less cig is a road to recovery and longevity!

Stuff is happening fast here, I was talking to PS wife, it looks like I might be having my tummy surgery on 3/2 I am now freaking out big time, I am going to see him next week to discuss it all but his wife has me on the books, I am scared crapless!!! LOL

Gosh I really wanted to weigh less before surgery but that is not looking promising, so I got one month to beat the crap out of my abs and get them as strong as possible, I guess he said that staying the same for this long I am at a set point and I may have unrealistic goals for weight, he said have the surgery that will get you moving again when you can start exercising, nothing but walking for 2 months, holy crap!!!!!!!! That is what scares me the most, I guess I will be walking up a storm!

So I have to talk to my new boss, this will be lovely, I am going to see if I can take one week of vacation and work the next 3 from home, it is hard to say how I will feel, my arms were easy, my c-section was pretty easy it will depend on swelling, the drains, etc, so I gotta go from there. This skin isnt moving so if I want to feel somewhat normal I guess I am going to go for it, Tony is really pushing me, he thinks I am never going to be happy with myself, and he thinks having that cleaned up is going to make me feel a lot better about myself in general which is what he wants to see. He says he cant stand seeing me so depressed about the scale, so depressed with my body he just wants me to be happy. So appt is next Tuesday I have a list a mile long to go over with him! We will see what happens, always a new wrinkle!

Ok now I got that off my chest,

Seth- maybe try working on looking at large portions but make veggies 50% of plate, meat and starch 25% each that way you can have a normal serving of everything but look like you are still eating a lot, I noticed since I lost weight there is no way I could stuff in the portions like I used to eat, I get full now which I never did before.

Hooligan-OK I was missing her, I guess she is busy with tests!

Cori- I have very coarse knotty hair, I always rub conditioner through my dry hair before swimming and I use like almond oil, or that nuetrogena oil, cause my skin gets so dry I think that helps the chlorine smell a bit.

CeeCee- way to go chickie, just keep trying to beat that time!!! You are doing great!!!

Mama- WTG hun, you are coming down, and you have you rbig party to think about!!!

Nancy- I guess you are a Pats fan huh? Man that game was something! Salt is a killer, but you will work it off!

Janet- WTG- almost at VWL that is super!!!!

TM- how is it going day 7!!!! I cant believe it!!!!

Mary- OK I am moving in!!!! LOL Tell hubby your personal trainer will be living there this summer, and I need a large shopping budget, LOL I so wish I had a workout buddy here, someone as nuts as me! My GF used to go to my gym, but she would stand there on her ipod, and not want to get sweaty, and I was so frustrated I was glad when she quit, LOL

So Badgers we had a poor weigh in, Jean didnt get out to get weighed, so I had to use alot of the same weights for people, we lost 27 pounds, but it can only go up, a few people are getting axed next week, if they dont weigh, no use taking up room on the chart! This is a select group!!!!

Happy- fill in the chart as best you can!!!!
