Vicki, you are helping me get re-motivated to get my eating back under control. I am getting back to meat, eggs, pork rinds, salads and greek yogurt for my hip inflammation. I really have been out of control this week and up afew pounds. Hope your house sells quickly! Is your fat flush soup the one with cabbage?

FF, no breakfast or lunch and not missing it, you may not need an appetite suppressant.

Tony, we are finding alot of things that are making us smile. One clipping we found was from a school newspaper early in my dad's teaching career in North Bennington. He was the driver ed teacher besides history and was going around town with the kids with out of date plates on the car. The new ones were sitting on the back seat. The school kids got a big kick out of that. Life was so simple back then. Hope your fuzzy achy eyes and head are back to normal today.

Have a great day Blitzers!

i DID have lunch yesterday...

tuna salad on low carb pita. possibly ditto today w/o the pita. Last night I had 1 cup of chicken broth, 2 thin pork chops with sauted broc and mushrooms with garlic, & 1 bacon cheeseburger (no bread). it is hard to believe, I still have most of that low carb loaf in the fridge. If i can restrain myself at lunch, I can use 2 slices this evening with my McD burgers. What is remarkable is that i did not go to the fridge for anything else. I did not even have the iced coffee I ordered. I wil save that for tonight. FF

hey artemis, that's what we're here for - a safe place to support each other...sorry you are still not feeling well...today is my "on" day for exercise, and you are my motivation!

abi, that is very cute about your dad...it is amazing how quickly lives pass by - your dad was that young teacher an instant ago...my grandmother used to say all the time that her life "seemed like a dream" as it went by so quickly - she was a young girl and then was an older woman before she knew it...i never fully understood that until recently!

ff, ok, i get it...you have an irrational fear of small rectangular plastic objects!

i spent a couple of hours writing this morning and that always gets my day off to a great start ...looks like my building deal is falling apart - some issues came up with the building that reduced my enthusiam for it...no worries - i hope to take a little breather and relax and get back to the hard search a bit later...

made stir fry with the leftover steak tips last night...mixed in with peppers and onions and olive oil - very good...the rest of the fam had rice with it...mine was fine without it...

gonna start off my eating with an hb egg white today and see where that leads me

no, it is a RATIONAL fear of small rectangular plastic objects

held by an IRRATIONAL extra-terrestrial. I got burned once when I got a bill for something I purchased In Minnesota. I was never in Minnesota. That was before I maxed out my card. I cut it in pieces, payed it off(not the Minnesota charge), and never looked back. Today is the birthday of the GREAT ONE, no, not Jackie Gleason, but Johann Sebastian Bach. It puts me in a good mood for the present.I have some irreplaceable vinyl recordings of his, and will play some of it tonight. FF

ff, i understand completely - it is a shame that it's so hard to do business the way it was done in the past - simple and pay-as-you-go...kudos for avoiding the temptation and not over-extending yourself...it's a lesson a lot of folks could learn!...

Hi everyone. Just stopping by so you won't think I forgot about you. Feeling lousy - all stuffed up; congestion; cough, etc.

Had rain the other night and the next morning I was walking down the hall and saw huge blister in the ceiling of the den - big time leak. I punctured it and drained it and then later in the day there was another one. I hate flat roofs!!!! I have a roofer coming out tomorrow to tell me what the deal is. I hope they can do a patch.

I'll check in later when I've had a chance to get caught up on everyone's news.

been there, Gibby.

There is little that separates my 7th floor ceiling with the roof. I have been severely rained on one year. It is fixed. However, i always worry about the next time. Nothing stays fixed for good. Good luck with the roofer. I pray it won't be the "EAVE of Destruction." FF

Marilee, so sorry you are not feeling well and then have a leak on top of that. Hope you feel better today and that the leak is an easy fix.

Tony, I can tell by your cheery post yesterday that getting back to writing is making you a happy camper. Sorry that the property deal is not working out. You will find something even better down the road.

FF, yes, once you have had to live with a leaky roof you never get over that vulnerable feeling. Water is the worst destruction because it can always find the low spot to run to. Just insidious.

There is going to be a big anti nuclear march going through town and down Putney Road to the Vermont Yankee headquarters today. The plant is 40 years old, the same make as the the one in Fukoshima and was supposed to close this month. Well they managed to get their contract renewed for years to come. As the crow flies we live about 3 miles from the plant. I guess you know how I feel about it.

Had a better day yesterday with the eats but not perfect. Egg salad for lunch, salad and left over pot roast for dinner and afew things I should have stayed away from. Hoping for a clean slated today.

Have a great day all!

it is by the grace of the Gods, Abi...

that i am getting back the discipline I so seriously lacked in Jan & Feb. I had no bkfst or lunch yesterday. for dinner i had a Mcd grilled chicken Caesar salad (leaving behind the carrot shavings), and added 1 oz of walnut halves in lieu of croutons, and 2 T Caesar dressing. I also had 2 angus Burgers, one of which sat between 2 slices of low carb toast, with a dab of mayo and low carb ketchup, and the second one (which I ate first),i ate w/o bread. I surprise myself that i am succeeding with the bread. I sliced 2 thin slices from it. there is about 65% of the loaf left. What is even more surprising, is that it has not turned green with mold. I bought it way over a month ago, and there are NO PRESERVATIVES in it. . Oh, today I am having real bona fide PIZZA for a late lunch. I will have sausage, pepper and onions on both slices, with oodles of garlic, oregano, and hot pepper flakes on it. I will devour every last molecule, EXCEPT THE CRUST.I derive great PRIDE AND JOY in my accomplishments. I mention this to help inspire anyone who needs that extra oomph to get back a consistent discipline. It takes me only 1 slip to put back tons of weight. (BTW...check out the Lounge for some of latest inspired<ahem>gems.)FF

Weighed in this morning, 224. Changing stats on left. I started T-tapping on Tuesday. You can google this to see more, I am sore and that is exercising for only 15-30 minutes! I haven't been completely 100% on plan but heading in that direction.

Gibby, pretty pic.

hey everyone, great to see y'all...

ff, happy to hear you are back on track...with the weather being so nice, your renewed discipline will help you get outside and move around - i'm betting on great things for you this year...good luck with the weigh-in on saturday...

abi, with all you are going through, it is amazing that you are not straying even further...you probably just need not to feel totally deprived as you have suffered enough loss recently...hang in there!...

vicki, good job - i'm happy you are finding your mojo!...how's married life so far?...

hey marilee, when i think about potential problems in an arizona house, a leaky roof would be last on my list!...wow, now that is something!...i thought you could cut a hole in the roof and stay dry 364 days a year... :-)

good day today - beautiful weather...skipped breakfast, had grilled chicken for lunch and waiting on baked chicken for dinner...

Tony, I laughed out loud with your dry Arizona comments. I know it is not funny for Marilee to be rained on but just the way you put it hit my funny bone. Thanks for the pep talk too!

FF, do you keep your bread in the frig? That is amazing it hasn't gotten moldy yet. You are doing so well. I do hope you will have good results on your weigh in! You really deserve it.

Vicki, does your new husband like the fat flush soup or does he eat the standard fare? I always have to cook two meals or alter what I fix for DH so I can eat too.

lol Marilee, I was just thinking that about my picture the other day. Will have to look through my stash and see what I can come up with. Of course when it is 90 degrees out this summer I will be dreaming of a cold winter's day. So strange that this picture from October was the only major storm we had!

Have a great day all!

THE PIZZA WAS GLORIOUS!!!

I bought 2 cans of diet coke (the only proper beveridge for pizza eating, btw), as I thought it would take at least 2 to put out the fire in my mouth. I wound up putting the 2nd can in the fridge to keep the bread complany. tonight i am making a great stirfry of sliced shitake and cremini mushrooms with asparagus cut on the bias in grapeseed oil and butter, with my usual & generous anointing of garlic, oregano, and pepperoncino. I will bring home a fresh caught critter from the cafeteria (if there is anything ATKINS friendly), or if necessary, pan fry a chicken breast or two. Not in the mood for SERIOUS cooking yet. However, if i cut the breasts in smaller pieces, they will cook much faster. Yesterdays dinner was my 16 oz HN salami fest with 4 thin slices muenster cheese. i put 1/2 slice cheese between 2 slices salami and some Jewish deli style mustard...TO LIVE FOR!!! Has any of u tried dijon mustard? I was always apprehensive of buying a jar of it, and finding out I did not like it. Perhaps next time. MORE GRAVE TECHNOLOGICAL NEWS. i have not been able to contact Luciano for a week. I hope he is still alive. I cannot afford to buy a new computer if he dissappears. FF

Abi, DH thankfully eats whatever I put in front of him LOL. He used to be a two large bowl cold cereal and 2 slice of toast breakfast eater. His standard lunch fare was baby carrots, ham salad sandwich and bananas for lunch and supper was some kind of bisquick casserole or frozen meal. Eventually he eliminated one piece of toast, switched to apples instead of the banana and eliminated one piece of bread at lunch.

Gradually, he is making better choices. Now for breakfast, cold cereal is down to one large bowl, the toast has been eliminated. Or, he will have steel cut oats. Lunches are whatever leftovers we have e.g. today he took leftover roast, cole slaw and a banana.

It is funny that with husband #1 in 1981 I converted from bacon and eggs to cereal and toast. Now, 2012, hubby #2, I am trying to do the opposite LOL.

vicki, that is so funny - us men just wish you girls would stop trying to change us at all!...lol...

ff, the bread was not moldy after all that time?...have you been checked for color-blindness recently?...dinner sounded yummy...i prefer a cold glass of milk with my pizza - weird, i know!...

abi, i think your mom sent us all this beautiful weather to soften the blow...it is another outstanding morning in new england...how are ya, kid?

artemis, i wish there was something i could suggest to help with your stomach - it really is terrible when you can't nourish and hydrate yourself properly, especially when you have been exercising and building muscle which requires more of everything...your brother's kids are still kinda young to do the music stuff there i guess...have you tried that science center?...

good start today - had a few pieces of steamed broccoli and a small piece of broccoli and cheddar omelet...

i swear it was an allergic reaction to those fish oil pills that messed up my metabolism...i felt increasingly worse for the 3-4 months i was taking them and since i stopped, i am feeling a bit better each day...my weight has been stuck between 223.2 and 223.6 for over a week - it was 223.2 this morning...i am eating well and not too much, and exercising every other day, so i am going to just stick with what i am doing and see what happens - at least for a couple more weeks...

have a great day everyone!

LUCIANO IS ALIVE AND WELL!!!

he was not feeling well. also the new parts that came were not the right parts. so, with any luck I will have it back before the end of the fiscal year. I am enjoying a lamb gyro. I removed the pita bread that came with it, and substituted the low carb Toufayan. No difference except the carbs. I will enjoy the 2nd one tomorrow during the opera. We CAN have our proverbial cake and eat it too. Check out the food porn section in another part of LCF. You'll think u died and went to heaven. when I retire, i hope i will have the time, and develop the skills necessary to make some of those things, especially the desserts. FF

Artemis, sorry about the stomach being upset again and with your brother and kids coming for the weekend that will be tough. I think I mentioned this fun idea once before, but those indoor swim parks with all the slides and lazy river rides look like alot of fun if Nashville happens to have one.

Vicki, it sounds like you are gradually making some good changes in your husband's meals. Isn't it funny how we hit on the truth of what healthy eating is and then they convince us that it is low fat and whole grains and wonder why our country is getting heavier and heavier.

FF, the asparagus and mushrooms stir fried with butter and garlic sound so delicious. You are going to have such fun when you can really get into the cooking after your retirement next year. I am going to make some more of the low carb meatballs today with ground beef and sweet Italian sausage. Just the smell in the kitchen will be wonderful.

Tony, I think we will give Mom the credit for sending us the gorgeus weather the last few days. My crocus are blooming and I see people's fruit trees blooming. Hope we don't get a late frost. Talking about brocolli, I want to try roasting some with a little olive oil and garlic. I have heard it is delicious that way.

My sister and I have started wallpaper stripping at Mom's to perk up the house for selling. We have two rooms and a stairwell to do. The walls are plaster so hopefully when we get to the last layer it will peel off the wall easily. It is going to take alot of elbow grease!

Have a great Saturday all!

hi kiddies!...

abi, it has to be your mom - a hundred years of keeping records and the weather has never been this warm until your mom gets close to the controls! :-) that wallpaper job sounds like a lot of...ummm...fun?...

vicki, i guess no one would!... :-)

ff, happy pavarotti didn't abscond or die with your computer...hope you are having a great off-line weekend...

artemis, hope you are feeling better and enjoying your brother's visit...

marilee, how's the roof?...how's everything else?...

good day today...baked chicken for breakfast and then had a late lunch/early supper of chicken wings and steak sandwich filling...

how is everyone else doing?...

Well, the nice weather was a treat but damp and rainy today. DH thinks we will have a hard frost early in the week and will cover two little apple trees we have.

The meatballs came out pretty good so I will eat them over the next few days. DH liked them so that was a plus. I can add them to my recipe collection.

OH yes Tony, stripping wall paper is going to be a blast. lol Your meals yesterday sounded good filling.

My best friend until we moved when I was in 6th grade is having a birthday on the 10th. I am enclosing a picture of our kindergarten class in her card. It is so hysterical. Mom had given me a permanent and I do have a memory of trying to comb it out and it looks like I stuck my finger in an electric outlet. All the other little girls have smooth hair with little barretts and ribbons in them and there is me with my hair puffed out all over my head! She is in Florida for the winter but I will drive over to North Bennington for coffee when she gets back the end of April and we will have some good laughs with her Mother and sister.

Have a wonderful Sunday all!

hi abi, it is weird to wake up to clouds and rain after this stretch of summer-in-winter/spring...we're spoiled!...lol...

speaking of birthdays, my daughter emily will turn 21 on the 6th - it's a biggie...got her a beautiful guitar last year and am trying to come up with something good for this year...all ideas are welcome so SHARE :-)

looking forward to a good day today...may go to a log home/post-and-beam show in manchester - learned about it yesterday when my three sons and i went looking for the boat show that was supposed to be taking place there...i have a piece of raw land on a lake in maine that i've always dreamed of building a log home on and i'm looking to build a barn at home, and probably neither of those things are gonna happen, but it doesn't hurt to look, does it?...

then at 3 there is a songwriters' gathering i may attend - also in manchester...the point to all this babbling is that i won't be around much food today! :-)

Hi everyone. Still battling the stuffy head, chest cough, can't breathe stuff. Regarding the leaky roof, it isn't fun. In the den, where the leak is, part of the ceiling (it looks like a panel), has dropped a bit. Thankfully, I don't live in an area where it rains a lot or I'd be in trouble.

Tomorrow the insurance company's claims adjuster is coming out to see what is covered. Then, on Tuesday morning I have a roofing company coming out for an estimate. However, with this latest ceiling development, I think I am going to need more than a roofer. My friend has a flat roof and they use a construction company and she called them for me and they said they could get me squared away. I need to call them and set up an appointment.

What a pain!

Anywho. I haven't been on plan. I haven't been terribly bad, just haven't eaten plan food.

Well, I need to get some housework done since people will be in and out today. If I could breathe without wheezing and coughing, I'd have more energy.

Have a great day everyone!

Just taking a break from scraping wallpaper in upstairs bathroom. Looks like at least 3 layers to get to the plaster. Thank goodness it's a small room. Sister will come around 9:30 to help.

Tony, I bet that post and beam show was very interesting. Such strong construction. It would be neat if you were able to build that barn or cabin on the lake some day. How was the songwriter's gathering?

Marilee, it is bad enough to have to deal with adjusters and construction companies but to feel icky to boot is not fun! Hope today you are feeling good!

May check back in later. Have to get my car registered and inspected today so afternoon will be busy.

Have a great Monday all!

abi, if you are taking a break at 7:19 a.m., i can only imagine what time you started peeling wallpaper this morning - you're a nut!...lol...

the songwriter meeting was fun - lots of nice folks and some good songs...it's a little uncomfortable as they look at me as some kind of songwriting guru, and i am pretty shy and low-key about my work, but it is flattering... :-)

the post and beam/log home show was cool, too...so many things to consider!...

gonna really buckle down this week and try to get under 220...wish me luck!

The weekend went well. Took the kids to the Adventure Science Center and they loved it! I didn't stay 100% on plan while they were here, but I certainly could have done worse. Still having tummy troubles, but c'est la vie.

Tony, you have me curious now about your song writing. I wonder if we know any of them....?? I listen to music of all genres, so I bet I do!

hey artemis, i'm happy you liked the science center - my wife is a science teacher and wants to go there every time she's in town...

i write country music, and have some songs published on music row, but you probably haven't hear any of them YET...lol...i do have a few songs that have been recorded by talented artists, but not for national release...i have to say it was a thrill to see songs i wrote on itunes and amazon though :-)

i sold my store so i could spend more time in nashville and write more - i was really being pushed to write there and i love it...but i have a 16 year old son at home who i don't like to be away from, so i'm limiting my time there to 4 or 5 days, once every 4-5 weeks...and then i write here in between trips...

you should grab a bite with my daughter sarah and me sometime when i am there - as i've told you, she is a nurse at vandy and is a sweetheart...

good day - didn't eat a thing until dinner and i made skirt steak on the grill - i had never had it before and it was THE BEST!...it should be at $16/lb....but i'm telling you, my boys kept eating it until it was gone and there was a lot of it!...has anyone else ever tried it?...

Artemis - glad the wknd went well.

Tony - are you a full time musician, song writer?

Abi - man, I remember those days of scraping wall paper, yuck. And using the heat gun to peel off paint.
