Up a pound today. Too many salty pork rinds yesterday. I did make the fried fish yesterday with tartar sauce and it was very good. Also had some leftover bratwurst from the other night. Had one deviled egg.

Snow is coming down. Probably 5 inches so far. It is supposed snow all day up to 13 inches possibly. Really can't complain with the mild winter so far and spring is not to far off!!

Vicki, am hoping you sell your place real quick and get into your new home. It is great you found a place this quick and got the contingency deal!

FF, you would think that with your podiatrist's recommendation the transit dept. would give you the pass to sit on your ride. Wishing you luck with that!

Tony, I beat you here today! How much snow are you going to get today? Are you set up in your studio yet? Will you have to do much renovation?

Marilee, I love the daylight too. I always feel more upbeat when we have alot of daylight time. Hope you lose that 2nd pound this week!

Hope everyone has a great day today. Don't know if I will have day off yet or not. My sister may not want to make the drive here with the snow storm going on.

Hodie sunt KALENDAE MARTIAE.

I sure hope March goes better than Jan and Feb. that was shocking about Davy Jones. Very hard to reconcile with the images of him from the 1960s. I still have my MONKEYS LPs, i will find the time to play a few in his memory. I am not hungry. that is a good way to begin the month. FF

I just had to pop back in to say that I just used a snowblower for the first time. Man, what would have taken me an hour to do I just did in about 15 min.! DH had bought us a new snow blower after our Oct. storm and had the old one repaired. He gave me a quick class the other day but said he would come over after he gets our drive cleared and do Mom's. Well it cranked right up for me and he and my brother are happy to not have to rush over and help me. The best part was I didn't feel like I was yanking my arm out of its socket trying to pull the "puller" or whatever you call it. Mom's neighbor lady who always uses her blower came over and shook my hand and said "congratulations" lol.

Amen! January and February were not that great...I figure all of the bad stuff for the year is over and the rest of the year will be great! Losing Davy Jones was a shock. I'm not that much younger than he was so it's a little scary. Plus, even if our bodies are aging, I still feel "young" in my head and spirit.

Got on the scale this morning and dead batteries! I'm assuming I'm the same. I'll get some and weigh tomorrow.

Have a great day!

you guys are a HOOT!...

abi, congrats on the snowblower...i used to have one, but it took more time getting it from the shed in the backyard to the driveway, than it took to shovel, so i gave it away...i still have 3 boys who live at home, so they take care of it for us...will have to build a garage or get a plow someday...

your fish sounded good - i'm gonna have to try that and thanks for the link - i'm gonna check that out in a bit here...hope you get the day off...we have several inches of snow here and it looks so beautiful...we live out in the country next to a beaver pond and the whole scene is so lovely after a fresh snowfall...

as for my studio, that is a ways off - first i have to buy the building, which probably won't happen until april AFTER a process of due diligence...then, the upstairs space is completely unfinished, so that will take a few months to complete if i start it right away and keep at it...

ff, i am always amazed and heartened by your diverse musical and cultural tastes - you like the opera and the monkeys, the opera and seinfeld and star trek, hanukkah and christmas...you are an interesting human being...you da man!...

marilee, i am so happy that you are back on track and in a good place...i think we all do better when you do well...

i mourn davy jones too...i never feel old, but lately, seeing "the fonz" speaking to people over age 62 about reverse mortgages has hit me hard - heck, it's THE FONZ!!!

vicki, congrats on the house - that was FAST! - good luck moving yours...and don't lament the past weight gain too much...why we all struggle with this is somewhat of a mystery, but we can beat it...we're here for you and will support you no matter where you are at in this journey, beginning, middle or end...

hey, where has artemis been...i don't like not seeing her...hope she is feeling okay...artemis, if you're reading this, say hi :-)

had a good day yesterday, except for a few spoons of ice ream at coldstone creamery...i'd heard about it but never tried it and the kids wanted to go there while we were at the mall...later we went to olive garden and i had the chicken marsala...salty, but good and i skipped the breadsticks and potatoes...

we have no food in the house anticipating getting away this week which never happened...gotta head out in a bit to restock...the house is still full of junk, but nothing new is coming in!

gibby has the right attitude.

if u THINK young... You ARE young. It is regrettable that people cannot see inside the TROLL. they lose so much by seeing only the surface (scary though it is). & MUSIC is the kaopectate of the soul. Love & Profits: FLATFERENGHI

I think FF is a Renaissance Man. He keeps us entertained and thinking all the time!

I am worried about Artemis too. Hope she is feeling ok and just really busy right now.

Marilee, I hope the new battery in your scale will only show a downword trend. You are doing very well! I don't think I have seen any pictures of Davy Jones since the Monkees haydays in the 60's. I will always remember him as being cute and young.

Tony, is the coldstone creamery where they put the ice cream on a slab of marble and mix in whatever you want in it like nuts or candy? Seems like I have seen it featured on tv.

Had chicken tenders yesterday and some pork rinds yesterday. Today will be eggs and tuna I think.

Have a great day all!

i just noticed that Artemis has not posted for a few days.

I also worry about her. I do not like to be judgemental of any of us (except myself). However, i do not understand what her program is, but I believe she is working herself MUCH TOO HARD, and I fear she will do herself much harm. I was retrieving a thought I had some time ago that: would it not be wonderful if we could go about our business and and take an occasional spoonful or forkful of food, and continue to go about our business (or pleasure), and hours later take just one more bite. In other words, make 1 meal last a week. Think of the money we would save. Obviously this does not apply to normal people, just those of us who are metabolically challenged. I am gonna CHEW on this idea some more. Fortunately, i will be quite pre-occupied this weekend, even though I will be home all day tomorrow, i will be out on Sunday. I have to get to know my new audio-cassette deck better, as I will be taping the Carnegie Hall concert tomorrow evening. I have reached the technological level I have sought, and I require nothing more. i have FM radio, vinyl LP playing, audio cassette playing and recording, and CD playing (walkman only). i still need to get a CD player that connects to my amplifier (100 watts per channel rms). I am having Luciano come over to do whatever is necessary to enable me to play CDs and DVDs on my computer. It DOESN'T. It did for 2 minutes. Enough to realize what a vivid image and dropdead incredible sound a DVD has over the DVD player through my TV. Fortunately, it will not cost me, as he put in the hardware less than a month ago. I require no APPs ,no smart phones, no IPODs, no IPADs, no KINDLES. My people were not technological innovators. We let other races produce the products, then we "appropriated" from them what we wanted, making them an offer they could not refuse. So, ARTEMIS, please feel better and check in with us, your extended family. F-so happy it's Friday-F

ff, artemis' program seems to fit in perfectly with the rest of our rag-tag group...she eats according to a few different generally LC plans - the difference between her and some of us is that she is younger, more fit and more physically active...she has successfully lost a lot of weight, like many of you guys have, and i am amazed by every one of you!

i agree that in my current condition, i could not keep up with her, and i too worry that she does not push herself too hard, but i'm sure like you, i applaud her dedication and hard work...not too many people could find the motivation she does to GET UP AND GO, even when she does not feel 100%...she's an impressive young woman!...

abi, you're gonna turn into a chicken tender with a tuna head :-) coldstone is exactly what you described...the tastes i had were of cheesecake ice cream with nuts, blueberries and strawberries mixed in - too delicious!...thankfully, i have not touched the candy and ice cream in my house this whole week...

made a prime rib roast yesterday and that was awesome...ate well and moderately all day and night...need another good day today!...hope y'all have one too!

Well confession time. I did have my eggs and tuna yesterday but as I watched the weather channel showing all the tornado devastation and seeing towns we lived in and towns where we know people like Artemis in Nashville the stress won out. I won't mention what I ate but am here to start fresh again today.

Tony, hope that Sarah is fine and hope we hear from Artemis today.

Will check back in later as I am feeding Mom as egg right now and need to concentrate.

Have a good one all!

Good morning!

I replaced the batteries in my scale and I'm down the 2 pounds I wanted for this week and I still have until Monday at 4:45 AM before the week is up. I'm just going to keep doing what I'm doing - if I don't lose more it's ok. Two a week is a good loss.

Busy day today - cleaning, laundry, grocery shopping, etc. The landscaper is coming over this morning so we can finalize what we are going to do with my patio area. I can't wait to get that done.

My tax appointment was last Saturday and Thursday night my State return hit my bank account - man that was fast!

Any who, enough of my news. How is everyone else doing? Vicki, tell us about the house you want to buy. Arte-we miss you!!

Best get to work. TTYL

abi, thanks for thinking about sarah...we called and texted her several times during the bad weather and although at one point she was hiding behind her sofa, and at another was amazed at the quarter-sized hail stones, she got through it fine...i am really starting to worry about artemis...hope we hear from her soon...

abi, i hope what you ate was enjoyable...it is nothing to be ashamed of - we all do it and we all understand, but not only that, BUT ALL AMERICANS DO IT!...if you ate a box of cookies, 3 bags of chips, a cake, a whole pizza, 6 loaves of bread, a pot of pasta, a gallon of ice cream, ten bags of candy or all of that together, it is still much less than the average american eats over time, so don't beat your self up...you have worked very hard at this very difficult task, and i for one, am proud of you!...

i am still feeling kinda crappy...drank a lot of water yesterday and will try that again today...i just feel sluggish and like i am full of insulin or something...gonna try going VLC induction-like for a few days...

hope everyone has a great day...

p.s. my son has gotten us hooked on the show "breaking bad" - have any of you seen it?...it is AMAZING!

Hello all. I'm sure you guessed that I did not have such a good week. Passed out a few times, including once in the shower. I'll spare y'all the rest of the details as I hate to complain but I was barely able to get to work and back, and then crashed when I got home at night. So sorry for being MIA.

I know that I do push myself too hard at times. I'm really stubborn and it's hard for me to admit that I cannot do something.

It seems like you are all doing well with your individual challenges. Especially you Gibby...go on girl!

Artemis, so glad you posted. So sorry for your episodes of passing out. Hope you didn't hurt yourself and had some warning you were going to pass out before you did. Have you been to see the specialist yet? We really missed you. Wishing you a good week!

Tony, have not seen the show "breaking bad". Probably will get to watch it afew years down the road when it goes to the rerun channel. lol Sorry you are feeling sluggish. Hope going vlc for afew days perks you up!

Marilee, I am thrilled with your 2 pound drop. 2 pounds a week is definately doable. Would love to see before and after pictures of your patio landscaping. Then we can all image sitting around with you having a glass of wine and listening to FF tell us about his homeland. HGTV is my favorite network and I love seeing before and after shows.

Had a piece of homemade quiche yesterday, some cheese, pork rinds and bratwurst.

Shoveled the drive as it was too heavy and wet to snow blow so got some pretty good exercise. It is going to get up to 60 I heard sometime this week? We'll see if that is true or not.

Hope you all have a great day!

marilee, a big congrats on the 2 lbs...that is a very aggressive rate of loss, girl...you earned it!...did you hear abi?...we are all coming out there to sip wine on your patio someday and listen to ff tell stories about life on ferenghar (sp?)...

abi, better go easy yourself with the heavy snow - they don't call that heavy snow "heart-attack" snow for nothin'...

i made the mistake of getting on the scale when i knew i ws retaining fluid and i was up to 223.4 yesterday...am gonna try to flush and not weigh for few days and see if i can shed a few lbs. of water...

march is gonna be a good month for me - i can feel it!

I was able to get out and walk some today. Sun is shining but very windy! I made a low carb mousse which turned out awesome. Now I am making a vegetable soup. Hoping that having things that are light on my stomach will make me eat a little bit more this week so that I can get my strength back up.

Abi, you and Tony are cracking me up!

Arte! So glad you are ok. I do concur with Tony....moderation is the key. There is no point in making yourself ill trying to get healthy.

Yea, you are all coming out! That's wonderful. I'll have wine for those who drink it, but I'm a marguerita girl myself, so I'll make pitchers of that!

I did have to make some minor adjustments - if I put in everything I wanted the total come to around $6,000! Needless-to-say, I had to compromised. It will be pretty anyway - anything is better than what I have out there now.

I hope the scale is friends to me at my offiical weight in tomorrow. I've been so tired this weekend, I've slept almost all day today.

TTYL.

Artemis, so glad and relieved to see u posting again.

By the Gods, cut yourself some slack!!! The passing out part scares me. Gibby, congrats on the loss. Do not get obsessed with the scale. I learned the hard way. Tony, feel better. I am fine...BUT I was not able to record the concert. I saw the signal on the cassette recorder, but I could not get it to play back. So, I tried it on my walkman. Bupkes!!! I will have to do some more research, re:CONNECTIONS. I hope to have it ready for next Saturday's DON GIOVANNI. I am not gonna take the gas pipe just yet. I am expecting Luciano this evening to resolve the DVD/COMPUTER crisis. Is Sarah by herself, Tony? FF

ff, sarah has a lot of friends there - she's met a lot of other young nurses her age from all over the country and they hang out and help each other, so that is good...and i have a bunch of friends there who can be there if she needs them, but no family...

abi, i loved sanford and son...used to watch it on friday nights as a teen with a buddy while we were making model cars...great memories! :-)

artemis, good to see you, girl...that mousse sounds yummy...take it easier this week...

marilee, you'll have to post some pics of the patio when it is done...i'll definitely try a marguerita - when in rome... :-)

ate one good-sized plate of LC choices at the chinese buffet this afternoon, but it was salty...bought steak tips to grill tonight but didn't, as none of us were hungry - will make them tomorrow...

Good to hear from most everyone this morning! Would like to have heard from Vicki, LCShadows, Jenny and Clanger too.

Marilee, I love frozen Margueritas. Last time I had one big enough to dive into I had tortilla chips and cheese dip too. The good old days - not! Can't wait to see your photos! Hoping the scale is very good today to you!

Tony, glad Sarah has friends she can rely on. Mom and I still catch Sanford and Son on the TV Land channel sometimes. Funny show. People around here are anxious for spring. My brother and his wife drove down after church to Smith College to see the all the bulbs in bloom in their greenhouses. Then I got an e-mail from my sister to say she and a friend were driving down too. Wonder if the all ran into each other there?

Artemis, what is your chocolate mousse recipe? Hoping you are getting your strength back up - no more fainting!

FF, bummer on the cassette recorder not recording your concert. Can Luciano figure that one out for you?

Had very salty ham last night. May not weigh again for awhile. At least not until I feel like I am down some.

Have a great Monday everyone!

347 days to retirement!!!

It is going quickly enough. It will slow down during the summer months and pick up again after the first chill. It will not be a boring time until 2/15/13, to be sure. Luciano is strictly for the computer. i asked him to come tomorrow, instead of yesterday, because I needed to go to bed early, and he can only come between 8 & 9 pm. The cassette connections i will figure out in time. It is me, not IT. I always have trouble making connections, be it a vhs (remember them) or a dvd player etc. I will eventually need to purchase a cd player (not a walkman). I also need a rack for my stereo components. all this will have to wait for a while. Latinum does NOT grow on trees. Although today is Monday, it is crisp and cold.My kind of weather. By Wednesday, it will go up to 60-Yuck, barf!!! I have all my beveridges lined up for today's business. It will be a good day. FF

with one minor tweak, i can turn a high carb or a low carb

MOUSSE into a zero carb MOUSSE. I simply remove 1 S. ha ha ha! I also loved Sanford & Son. I loved Sanford's "relationship" with Esther (Lawanda Page). that was worth the price of admission. Lately, i have found it easy to go w/o bkfst and a have a light lunch. Evenings, I am trying to get away with one meal. Sometimes i am lucky. Eating more during the day does not negate my evening hunger.Evenings, I am drinking water, seltzer, my fruit tea, and sometimes coffee and/or my diet choc soda. so far no mitigation of appetite. Well, Q'onos was not built in a day. FF

i was so pre-occupied this weekend....

i gave no thought to the idea of 1 forkful of food instead of a whole meal. well, what IS there to think about? I will try it during my lunch hour. I will get 1 meal, and see how long I can make it last. It will probably go down like one of Ralph Kramden's great ideas that resulted in failure. Well, we shall see. It is all about relegating the eating experience to a very minor function in my life. Wish me luck!!! Oh, I got a very short haircut yesterday. this was not about appearance, but function. I figured my ideas would get out faster, if they did not have to fight that full forest of follicles on its way up. FF

Abi, I got the idea for the mousse from an old WW pie that my mom used to make. I kept asking her for the recipe, but she couldn't find it...she just remembered that it used jello and cottage cheese and some other ingredients and she would throw it into a graham cracker crust. So, I improvised. I took fat free cream cheese, LC yogurt (I used Kroger's LC vanilla, but you could easily use plain unsweetened or use cottage cheese instead), and orange sugar free jello dissolved in water, and threw it all into a blender until smooth. Then instead of pouring into any pie crust, I just put it in a bowl in the fridge and allowed it to "gel". The consistency was very mousse-like. And tasted just like a creamsicle! You could use any flavor of jello you want, or if you wanted chocolate, you could probably use sugar free pudding instead.

Tony - you've never had a marguerita?????? Holy cow!

Got on the scale and it shows a 1 pound loss so that's ok - a loss is a loss.

I didn't go into work today - not feeling well. So I'm going to cut this short.

I'll TTYL

feel better Gibby. I hope u are sitting down for this revelation:

I, also, have never consumed a Marguerita. I did have more than 1 Tequila Sunrise in my day, and some gin fizzes as well. My fear of getting addicted to booze has deterred me from being addicted to booze. Besides, I have always been food oriented. I wish i could develop a fear of food. My experience has been that it is easier to go w/o food than to eat just a little. I will be exploring the "just a little" part of the equation this week and possibly next week (if the experiment lasts that long). FF
