i was curious, Gibby. what made u decide on NS?

I tried it in 1990. There were meeting places too. I liked the food. After a month or two, i was eating a week's worth in 1 afternoon. BYE BYE NS. Thursday after work, i am going to the healthfood store, and see if i cannot get that saffron extract. that plus ATKINS Induction may just give me a fighting chance. FF

I decided on it because I wanted to have my cake and eat it too! They are low glycemic, but not low enough for me - the regular carbs are ok, but there is so much sugar and corn syrup in the deserts, breakfast bars and lunch bars. It has really triggered my cravings for sweets.

I'm chalking it up to another lesson learned.

marilee, i think you're absolutely right - it doesn't work for you...i think it was good that you tried it as it seems to work for some people and ya never know until you try...they have a diabetic system that may work better as i can't imagine they are feeding sugar to folks with diabetes, but i think you are on the right track going back to vlc for a bit to purge your system...i'm behind ya 100%!

vicki, great to see you, girl...you don't have to have anything to report to hang with us in here...no one is judging anyone and no one has any expectations, so i hope you will stick around - you're part of the family :-)

abi, sounds like you are eating well - way to go!...nicola's does sound good!...hope you enjoyed your time off today...another great week weather-wise in nh!...

artemis, i have only had venison a couple of times - i think it was in a gravy and served over noodles and it was delicious...hope you get more sleep tonight...

ff, happy you had a lazy, relaxing weekend...mine was not too strenuous either :-) never heard of the extract you mentioned...if you try it, let us all know how it goes...

had a good day:
b; 1 hb egg white
l: leftover grilled chicken
d: more leftover grilled chicken

i've weighed in at 220.8 on sunday and today...should have stayed off the scale!...

Abi, thanks for asking, my knee is doing pretty good. I am exercising like I used to. The real test will be when I start walking outside again for a significant length of time (more than half an hour).

when i went to bed last night, i had the most powerful craving for sugar...my brain was trying to get my legs to carry the rest of me to the kitchen and the ice cream and candy...it was weird, as i was trying to fight the arguments being made in my head - it's no big deal, i ate well all day, i can have just a little, go ahead and get up - it was relentless for about ten minutes...

and i really wanted to do it - but i didn't - something stronger (at least last night) kept me glued to the bed...i found the will to resist and i feel so much better this morning as a result and i will try to remember this feeling tonight and tomorrow night when the urge may hit again...

i don't really understand why it hit me so hard last night and not the previous few nights...

Guys, I am in a terrible mood, Raaarr! Which is why I didn't post yesterday because I didn't want y'all to think that I was turning into Mr. Hyde. I am so incredibly sleep deprived (about 4 hours in 3 days!). Plus, to make things worse I've had to work a lot of extra hours, I'm getting a stye under my eyelid (most like induced by lack of sleep and/or stress), and my insulin levels have been all over the place. I am one week into my 30 DS workouts so I weighed. I shouldn't have but I did. No gain, no loss. With all the exercise and following strict calorie cycling, there is no way I couldn't have lost anything in reality. I know in my right mind that it's probably a combination of gaining muscle and fluid from all the stress my body has been under. But it still makes me really grumpy!!!

Ok, sorry for the rant. Off to work. Hope y'all have a good day!

Tony, so proud of you for resisting the temptation! That sugar devil never seems to go away!

Arte, I'm so sorry you are going through a rough patch. I wish I had some advice, but I don't! I hope you get to feeling your old self again soon.

Going to the store tonight to pick up steaks, chops, chicken thighs, and lots of salad fixins'. Yum!

thanks, marilee!...i don't always win that battle, but it feels good today to have won it last night!

artemis, i guarantee you have really lost and it's fluid that's affecting the scale...keep the faith, and i know the scale will move down big time as soon as your body is relieved of stress...

i did weigh today and i'm glad i did as i'm back down to 219.4...now i gotta get to the 218s

today:
b: 1 hb egg white and acv
l: ?
d: slow-cooked ribs i think

Wow, everybody beat me today. First chance to get on the computer. Mom got up at 4, then church at 7 and sister in law came for coffee. Dr. sent a guy over with an overnight oxygen tester for Mom to wear tonight. They will pick it back up in the morning and print Dr. a report.

Remember as kids you would color a sky bright blue with big fluffy clouds. The sky looks just like that today.

Marilee, I know concentrating on meats and salads will really agree with you. It will take a little while to get rid of the cravings and I still get some occasionally but they are not overwhelming like they had been. I am frugal too and would not want to waste the NS food. Can you pack it up and put it somewhere you can't get to easily. You may run into someone who would buy it from you at a slightly reduced price?

Artemis, when do you get to see the specialist? I hope he/she can give you some relief from all your symptoms. The scale not showing a loss I'm sure is as exactly as you said, water retention from all the stress! Those styes are miserable. Feel better quick!

Vicki, glad the knee is feeling good and when you are able to get back to walking that it stays feeling good. Great you are back to doing the regular exercise!

Tony, cheers to you for not giving in to the ice cream cravings last night!!! Keep up the strong will power.

FF, I would be eating a month's worth of NS in an afternoon too! Tell us again what the saffron extract is supposed to do. I have a very short memory.

Yesterday I made a batch of the fried chicken strips with dip and had some hard boiled eggs. Today is a no meat and a fast day for Ash Wednesday. I can have one regular meal, and two small snack meals that together would not be a full meal. No meat. So far I have had one hard boiled egg and will have another around 1. Dinner I have a big can of tuna and will mix it with mayo. Really, close to what I have been eating for two weeks. lol I have decided to give up a BIGGY for Lent. Not sure I can do it but will give it a good try. MY CREAM in my coffee. I live on that and do not like black coffee at all. But I will try my best.

Hope you all are having a good Wed!

Dr Oz says that it cuts the appetite...enabling us

to EAT LESS!!! I hope the local health food store has it. Anything I want badly enough never is. I was off today-SICK DAY-physically this time. The distance between this terminal and my bed is one pace. But it seems like it is in the beta quadrant of this galaxy. I feel awful. I am going back to bed in one minute. I hope I feel a lot better when I wake up. Nobody can do my work when I am gone. We are all "specialists" in that office.
Artemis, I hope u feel better a.s.a.p. FF

well, the ribs were excellent - used a dry rub, but it had salt in it, so i'm gonna have to flush tomorrow and i'm definitely staying off the scale!...

i'm having another night where i am craving some of the wonderful chocolate covering our table, but it ain't happening!...i'm not caving!...

I was bound and determined to beat you all here today - wake up Tony!

After the semi fast yesterday I was down a pound today. It is a fake pound and today is our family get together so will probably be up a couple tomorrow. My older sister is bringing most of the meal - a beef stew, salad, dessert. Younger sister will bring something and sister in law also bringing dessert, banana carrot bread and a fruit salad. I am making deviled eggs. So my plan is to pick out the meat to eat, maybe eat a bite of the veggies in the stew, have a green salad and a deviled egg. I brought a diet soda with me and some of my fried chicken fingers that I made on Tues. for my lunch.I will be here at Mom's now until 7 tonight.

My sister's daughter and son have been in business before and are working on something new. So this will be a part business meeting. They both have two children all 4 of them under 7 years old. They are all staying at a motel with a pool tonight so the plan is to take them swimming while they wait for check in time. It will be a busy day!

FF, I hope you are feeling better today. When you can hardly drag yourself to the computer - that is really sick.

Atemis, how are you doing today? Did you get some sleep last night?

Tony, I am so hoping you say you resisted the carbage at your house last night. It is not fair that we have to be around all that stuff. I am so thankful I am having low cravings right now after coming off a long stretch of terrible cravings. Got the monkey off my back for the time being - knock on wood!

Marilee, hope you had a carnivor feast last night. Your energy will start to pick up as the carbs in your system diminish.

Hey Vicki! Did you have Monday off for Presidents Day? Short weeks are great.

Hope you all have a healthy day!

Hey everyone......so much news from all of my friends!

Well, I haven't carnivored it totally yet. Had some things come up so I haven't made it to the grocery store, but I did cut out the sugary items and I'm down 2-1/2 pounds. Tonight is grocery store night. I can't wait. Our bodies are such amazing machines....they tell us what they want and what they don't want. I am CRAVING a big rib-eye or New York strip steak and salad with fresh lettuce, tomatoes, onions, etc. with ranch dressing and I'm going to have it tonight!

Gosh, Marilee, that sounds wonderful. My sister and the others have taken the 4 little ones swimming at the motel pool and will be back shortly. She has a crock pot full of stew meat that smells like pizza cooking. She put in fresh thyme. I guess that is what I am smelling. Hope they all get back quick. I am hungry!!!

Have a great night!!!

hey guys!...

abi, i am happy to report that i did stay away from the carbage last night, and i am resisting it successfully so far tonight...i'd be lying if i said i didn't want some of it - but i DON'T WANT ANY OF IT!...it's gonna be simple torture for as long as it is in the house...

so abs, hope you enjoyed the stew when you finally got to EAT it!...

marilee, how did you make out at the store?...did you have the steak?...how was it!...

today:
b: 2 leftover ribs
l: 6 buffalo wings
d: sauteed steak, peppers and onions

Good for you Tony! One day at a time, one temptation avoided at a time!

I am hoping that Artemis and FF are back feeling rested and healthy today.

We had a great time yesterday. The stew was delicious. My sister said she had browned the meat and then deglazed pan with a bottle of a sort of dark beer she had at the house, put in some fresh thyme, carrots, tomato paste and poured it over the meat. Then baked it. At Mom's she just rewarmed it in the crock pot. Everyone else had mashed potatoes with it, rolls, desserts. I did pretty much as planned. A salad, some meat, a deviled egg, also some pepperdew cheese and some wine. Earlier in day I finished off the chicken fingers with dip. I expected at least a pound up today but I was still down that extra pound. Sure hope I can keep those 4 pounds off. Below is a picture of the motley crew from last night. I took the picture.

abi, what a good looking family!...and the kids are so cute - love the funny-face in the front row...your mom looks so proud and happy...so, now i want the rundown on who everyone is...i'm guessing you are behind your mom?...there are a few of you who resemble her...thanks for sharing!...

i did avoid the sweets again last night - whew!...

sarah made an emergency flight home on wednesday to be with a friend whose father died suddenly...she is flying back to bashville this morning...we (the rest of us) were supposed to drive down there starting tomorrow to spend a good part of school vacation week, but now i'm not sure...

got lots going on today so i hope that helps distract me from food...that has been the trend this week...

i agree abi - hope ff and artemis are feeling better!...and i can't wait to hear about marilee's steak... :-)

Ha Ha Tony! I took the picture. That is my older sister and next to her is my younger sister. One of my brothers is to the left with his wife behind him. Guy in the back with the beard is their son. Guy in back with little blond boy is older sister's son. His little boy was the "GAP BABY" when her was a year old. Big guy in middle is younger sister's husband. The one that had the pork bellies at Nicola's. He is holding one grandson. Behind him with gray beard is older sister's husband. Pretty girl sitting in front is older sisters daughter with her two children. Pretty girl behind her is younger sisters' daughter holding her other son. MY DH didn't come to the dinner. So are you totally confused?

Sorry that Sarah had to fly home for such a sad occasion.

i called up the health food store.

no saffron extract. no surprise. nothing i ever needed was easy to come by. back at work today. I feel strange. At least today is Friday. i will have 2 days to drive out what is left of the evil spirits. without warning, PBS put on the new production of Mozart's Don Giovanni. It was just what the doctor ordered. I had no complaints. Everything was to my liking, the staging, the singing...everything. I missed the first 27 minutes. I hope they repeat it on Sunday, which they USUALLY do, but not always. With my luck, it will be a re-play of the health food store situation. They recommended Hoodia. However, I will try to accfess Dr Oz's website. We shall see. I hope everyone enjoys the weekend. FF

It must be the no cream in my coffee but I am down another pound today. Yesterday I had 4 deviled eggs and a big can of tuna mixed with mayo, onion and celery. After watching the scale go up one pound at a time to a total of 5 pounds since the holidays I am so happy to be back where I was. Now need to keep working on dropping below this "set point" for me.

FF, happy you got over your bug or flu. I'll make the offer along with Tony to order the saffron extract for you on line and have it shipped to you if you can't find it locally. Do you have any GNC stores in Brooklyn? They might carry it.

Artemis, wishing you lots of rest this weekend!

Marilee, Vicki, LC, Jenny and Clanger how are things going?

Tony, we had a tiny bit of snow this morning. Rather icy. Did you get some too?

Hope everyone has a restful and healthy weekend!

hi abi, we got nothin' in terms of snow...congrats on another pound - you are earning every ounce you're losing - i'm proud of you, girl!...

artemis, hope you are resting and have a relaxing weekend...

sarah is back in nashvegas...she is working but doesn't feel well either since she got back yesterday :-(

today at 1 i sign a purchase and sales agreement to buy a commercial building in salem, nh...i'm excited as i always loved this building from the day it was built in 1998 and it is only 10 minutes from my house...it has 720 sq ft of unfinished space on the second floor that i plan to finish as an office/songwriting studio for ME...5000 ft of store/office space on the first floor - abuts a beautiful wetland (which my windows look out on) but is on a busy rd with 15000 cars a day driving by, so i should be able to make it work... :-)

feeling pretty good about my eating this week...haven't weighed in a few days and may hold off for a couple more...

hope everyone has a great day!

Hi all,

Just got back from big grocery shopping. The freezer is filled with steaks, ground beef, chicken, salmon, swai and bacon. The refrigerator has eggs, tomatoes, lettuce, onions, ranch dressing and other veggies. This will be a great eating week. I'm putting the rest of my NS on one shelf in my pantry - I'm not tempted to eat it to be honest, so it shouldn't pose a problem.

All else is fine - things in my world are back to normal, thank goodness!

I just back from shopping too! I had my cart loaded with salad, veggies and fruit, and chicken breast. The guy behind me in line was like "wow, you eat really healthy!". It seems strange after all these years, but I still feel flattered when someone compliments my way of eating.

Swai is a very delicious, mild white fish from Viet Nam. It has been farmed raised obviously and I know wild fish is better, but living in the desert, I can't be too picky!!!!

I'm having a great day! Got back from my tax appointment and it was all GOOD!!! I was planning on having my patio area (I live in a patio home) landscaped from scratch, including the cement slab being tiled and now I can do it without any out of pocket expenses. I'm elated!
