Blitz VII - October 1st to December 31st, 2011

well, well, well, here we go again!...

this is the 7th installment of our intrepid leader's life-saving series of weight-loss blitzes...who is our leader, you ask?: the other-worldly, opera-cultured, LC-cheesecake-eating, flatferenghi...

we are made up of friendly folks from all over the planet, and the environment we create and enjoy is one of comraderie and support with no judgments, rules or negativity...we all follow our own individual plans, and most have elements of low-carb and low-glycemic-index foods, but there are no plan requirements to join us...

we welcome all nice, friendly people - if you wanna join us, all ya gotta do is introduce yourself and post...

welcome to the oldies and welcome to any newbies!...

i suggest everyone say hello and give some info about yourself and your experiences...

Happy Saturday everyone and ready for Blitz VII! I am having success with Tony's plan of two weigh ins a week. First weigh in I have to be down at least half a pound ( on Tuesdays) and second weigh in I have to be down the second half a pound.(on Fridays). This has worked for two weeks in row so will keep it up. Wishing you all the best of luck on this Blitz and welcoming any newcomers. This is a very special group!

Will check in later!

wow, abi, my plan is working better for you than it is for me!...and it's more demanding too as i only have to maintain on tuesdays and lose at least .2 pounds each friday...good for you!

but so far, it is working for me too...after 2 1/2 weeks, i've lost almost 8 lbs. but of course that is all weight i have lost more than once, earlier this year...i am still 12 pounds away from virgin territory...

my goal for this blitz and operation 1derland is to get below 200 by the tuesday before thanksgiving...and then stay there until the end of the year...so i'm hoping for some fast losses and then a month of maintenance before assaulting my ultimate goal after the new year...

hmmm...

BENEVENTUM AD KALENDAS OCTOBRIAS!!!

Welcome to the KALENDS OF OCTOBER, amd the beginning of the best part of the year. I could not say it any better than Tony, in his BLITZ VII intro, save 1 important omission. One is supposed to capitalize any word that has FERENGHI in it. I hereby dedicate today to ME. I am watching a show on the travel channel which just began caled BACON PARADISE!!! worth a look. So looking forward later to the WAGNER DU JOUR. I wil be making coffee later to go with it. Incidentally, has anyone seen Savarin coffee in the stores? SHOPRITE neither in Bklyn, or in New Jersey carries it anymore. First it is Dr. Browns diet Cel-ray (celery) that kicks the bucket, and now Savarin. I am talking major conspiracy against the troll!!!. Well, the last BLITZ of the year has begun. Let us go out with a big bang (weightwise, I mean). I am anticipating only 1 off plan meal for the next 3 months: Christmas Dinner, and ONLY Christmas Dinner. Love & Profits:FLATFERENGHI

Good morning y'all! I have my spreadsheets and graphs ready, I have formulated my plan of attack, and I have a huge bottle of water in my hand! Let's go Blitzers!

Weighed in this morning only one pound heavier...really an accomplishment since I"ve been staying with my family the past few days. They always have too many goodies around and I usually gain anywhere from 5 to 10 lbs while I"m here because I give in to temptation. But not this time, and it paid off! I attribute that pound to just eating more calories than I normally do. I always eat more when I'm around people than when alone. So, with my new plan in place, I have no doubt that it will come back off and I hope it has many followers.

Good luck everyone!

artemis, if any of the goodies have been salty, it could be fluid as well...

ff, welcome to your own party, my brother, and i am SO SORRY about the capitalization faux pas!...i was thinking this morning that you and i have shared almost daily correspondences through these threads for the last 18 months...i can't think of another person in my life, outside of my house and job, that i have communicated with so frequently...

i haven't weighed in yet, but isn't today the day we post our blitz VI results? <gulp>...mine was a slight gain, but i'm not sure how slight yet :-)

abi, u ARE a lifesaver.

I just called them up. The price quoted was $3.89 for the 13 oz can. I will get 2. It is quite a trip getting there, but for that, it is worth it. Who knows what other on plan surprises I might find there. I will be most delighted to make a pot of Savarin and a lc goodie when u do come to grace our fair borough. Changing the subject, it seems there is no DAS RHEINGOLD, not on WQXR, not today. There will be a Metopera archive performance of LA BOHEME from 1958 featuring Carlo Bergonzi and Licia Albanese, both in their vocal prime. So, we must shift no more than 100 miles or so to the west, from the Rhein to the Seine. These last minute changes will drive me In-seine. FF

FF, I am thrilled they had your Savarin and disappointed that the music you wanted won't be on this afternoon. Hope the replacement is just as good. Enjoy that cup of coffee. Is it as dreary in NY as it is in NH?

Artemis, glad you are raring to go on Blitz VII! I found once I announced to the family that I was eating low carb etc. they watch me like a hawk to see if I am going to fall off the wagon. So when they have all the desserts around at family dinners I don't dare take a taste.

Tony, does she look like this?

I want to mark my spot! I can't chat long so I'll stop by tomorrow and get caught up.

I did go out for Mexican last night and was a bad girl! But it was so good!!!! Jumped on the scale this morning and - no change I'm sure something will show up eventually, but I've been on plan today so hopefully, it won't be too bad. I just had to have chips and salsa and a marguerita!

TTYL!

I am back where I started on Blitz VI. I gained several pounds and now I am back to square one. If I lose a pound next week by Friday I will be losing new poundage. I am so ready for that!

Marilee, I used to love frozen margueritas. Haven't had one in years. The mexican restaurant we went to had big ones you could dive into!

Church at 8 and then breakfast out. Only four more Sundays that the country club will be open for the season. Hoping we can find a good place to go after that. This is a small town so time will tell.

Will have bacon and eggs there and I'm sure my new found soul food later (my flax bread). Need to make a fresh batch of mayo and need to pick up some ranch dip seasoning. I am using the mayo now instead of sour cream for my dip. Probably ground beef for dinner.

Hope everyone has a great Sunday!

marilee, chips and salsa are one of my many weaknesses...actually, the chips, since the salsa is pretty healthy...

i found ff's blitz I a week after it started so i always feel like i am 7 days behind him...lol...

abi, i'll make ya a deal - you find my hot blonde nymphomaniac and i'll open a breakfast restaurant in your small town...

see y'all in a bit!

reporting in--I've been doing really well this last week and seem to be getting over my cold.

My goal in this Blitz is to lose 2lbs a week except for the week of Thanksgiving and the week of Christmas. I realize that is pretty ambitious but I think I can do it.

That means I would be down 24 lbs by the 1st of the year. It isn't going to happen without exercise and a fierce committment but I'm ready for it...If I don't lose 2 one week than I need to try and make it up another week. And I also realize that your body doesn't lose on a schedule like that but, I'm going to try.

I am also looking into taking some supplements which are supposed to help with insulin control, fat loss, etc. but I'm still reading up on it...I might go to a "naturalist" doctor to get some recommendations and save myself the trouble of figuring it out on my own.

I haven't lost my 2lbs yet this week and in fact am stuck on the same number, but that happened to me last week and I went down 2 in 2 days toward the end, so I'm hoping my body will follow the same pattern.

Also I plan on continuing not drinking through this Blitz except for a few social occasions and I will really limit it on those.

Job starts tomorrow. Made the trip back and will do my last training session for the week. Going back to tues/thurs/sat sessions this next week. On the in between days I will try to vary up my exercise. But I am going hard core!
Since we started on Saturday, I think I'll post my weekly total on Saturdays every week.

i do have my Savarin...from another source...

one closer to where I live. If I had gone to Keyfood, it would have cost me $4.50 round-trip busfare, which would have rendered the $3.89 13.5 oz can more expensive than the $4.59 10.5 oz can. 1 10.5 oz can will last me through the spring, as I only make it for opera matinee broadcasts. The other opera was no disappointment. Who does not love LA BOHEME? THE most romantic opera in opera, and everyone was in their vocal prime. When u are expecting porterhouse, and have to settle for lobster....see what I mean? One classic instead of another. No loss. Today, I actually ate 1/2 of a steak for lunch. Will wonders never cease? I will slice the other 7 oz into a stirfry at the last minute. It is already medium rare. So, 1/2 before I am ready for dinner, I will take out the steak and bring it up to room temp. I will stirfry some peppers, celery, onion, mushrooms, and leftover broccoli and stringbeans. I am sure there will be enough for tomorrow as well. It is so tempting to eat them all at once, especially causethey cook down to a small amount. The watchword for me for BLITZ VII, is PORTION CONTROL, and doing what exercise I can. Except for walking, I HATE exercise. I do it because I must!!! FF

I know you will excel. Tony, great good fortune at the scale. I forgot to go off plan. I had scheduled an episode at WENDY's featuring a large frosty for today. The window of opportunity is gone. Perhaps next month at this time. FF

jenny, i do think it is an ambitious goal, but i fully support your ambition...just remember, if you end up losing 1/2 to 1 lb. per week, it will still be a major accomplishment...so i think you should go for it and vow not to get disappointed if you fall a bit short...also, remember that you ROCKED blitz III at this time last year... :-)

ff, was i supposed to do something with the scale today?...hmmm...enjoy the savarin!...

artemis,i am so impressed with your enthusiasm and positive attitude...you go, girl!...

ate more than i have been eating this weekend, but on plan...tomorrow's gonna be a very light eating day and i'm gonna drink a gallon of water tonight...

Jenny, two pounds a week should be doable and also a safe rate to lose at. Giving yourself some leeway for thanksgiving and Christmas is very smart. I need to do something like that too.

FF, isn't it amazing that you forgot to go off plan for the Wendy's frostie. You have come a long way. Loved comparing the two operas to steak or lobster. Win win situation!

Tony, I am going to try to drink alot of water today too. Hoping to be down 1/2 pound tomorrow!

Artemis, hope you have a great first day at work today (and second day .....

Hey Marilee and Vicki! How are you both this Monday?

Hope everyone has a great day!

abi, good luck with the water today!

Tony...sorry about the 1.6 lbs.

for that and the uncapitalization u WILL soon be hearing from my lawyer. (lol). We learn from our experiences. what will you do differently to show a loss? I will be doing more plain water. I will also take every opportunity to get in more walking. I have been so looking forward to this time of year for that very reason. Well, it is here. If it does not rain after work, i will do a very nice long walk. I will not be doing the gym except on weekends. i also have my WW exercise video. All that PLUS portion control, should net me a better show on the scale on 10/27/11. FF

ff, i made some major changes as of 9/12/11 with "operation 1derland" so i am going to see how that plays out...there are built in carrots and sticks, which i think is critical with my psychology...

i feel motivated and ready to break the 200 lb. barrier...i no longer feel "thin" at 210-215, as i have for some time, and that should help...i really want to get there before thanksgiving and then make "staying there" my goal for the remainder of this year...then i'll tackle the march to 185 in 2012...i hope!

Good morning!

I need to ask about Saverin coffee - I've never heard of it. Is it an East coast brand? And, what makes it so special? I may have to see if I can find it somewhere around here.

Well, it took me the weekend to lose the weight I gained with Friday nights dinner, but it was worth it. Sometimes you just have to live a little! Had a nice visit with my friend and fought off tears knowing time together was getting shorter.

No big goals for this blitz - I just want to get firmly esconced in Twoderville. I think I can manage that.

Have a great day everyone - TTYL!

i assumed Savarin was all over.

It was the brand I always had at my (earth)aunt's house, since i was 3 or 4. I did not have to worry about the coffee stunting my growth, as booze and cigs had already taken their toll (lol). But, Ferenghi are short anyway. It must be the lower gravity of Earth that got me to 5'6". Of course, at just below 300 lbs, what would I know from low gravity? Anyway, that is the brand I have always used. Sometimes, i will get some specialty coffee (Amaretto flavored for example), but it is Savarin for me, most of the time, except when i am outside...but it is better than Dunkin & Starbucks. FF

I saw this on one of our TV stations websites and just thought I'd share......

PHOENIX - Monsoon 2011 will go down in the record books as the hottest ever in the Valley of the Sun.
The average temperature at Phoenix Sky Harbor was 95.0 degrees, which broke the previous record of 94.5 set back in 2007. (The average temperature is an average of the average daytime high and the average overnight low.)
The average high temperature was also a record setter at 106.7 degrees, breaking the old record of 106.4 set in 1989.
The average low temperature of 83.3 came in second place to 2007's 83.4 degrees, but just barely.
Due to continuing drought conditions and the presence of La Nina, the ABC15 weather team forecasted below normal monsoon rainfall this year and that is exactly what panned out.
We only picked up 1.60" of rain at Phoenix Sky Harbor, well below the average of 2.71".
That ranked this year's monsoon as the 36th driest on record.
The lack of rainfall contributed to an unusually high number of dust storms, also known as haboobs, as well.
We experienced eight major dust storms this year, the worst of which hit on July 5th. In fact, that one was arguably the largest haboob that ever rolled through the Valley spanning 60-70 miles wide and towering up to 5,000 feet tall.

I sure did miss the rain this year. Looks like it's going to be a dry winter, too.

Ok, made it through my first day of the job. My feet are killing me from the heels I was wearing...gotta invest in some flats! I had originally planned to do my Jillian Michaels' DVD but not sure how my feet and legs will handle it. I was already sore from the running yesterday. Speaking of which, by the end of this week, they have us running a full 20 min without walking which seems like quite a jump from 5 and 8 minute intervals...are they CRAZY!?
