Morning! Scale is still up a pound - weird! I'm on plan so I'm not going to stress. The weight will come off in its time. If I can average 2 pounds a week, that's fine with me.....

ff-sorry you were under the weather. I'm glad you are feeling better and hope you computer will be feeling better soon, too!

Have a great day! TTYL!

ff, happy to hear you are feeling better...and your approach to off-plan eating is one we should all have - at least me anyway... :-)

marilee, great attitude!...keep doing what you are doing and the results will follow...

abi, sometimes how our weight fluctuations are hard to understand, and it sure adds on a lot more quickly than it melts off...i am dealing with that this week...

i was down .2 to 218 today and that's down .8 from tuesday, but it is still two pounds heavier than i was last friday...some days it is easier to drink than others...if i have meetings or am running around, i can't be tied to the bathroom, so i am still retaining some water...

last night i made ribs with a lower-salt dry rub that were good - but i didn't eat much...i've been pretty austere since my shocking 218.8 on tuesday...

today, so far:
b: salad greens
l: 8-10 unsalted pistachios
s:?
d: chicken wings, perhaps?

yesterday, i believe i set an all-time record of diet-soda

consumption. I will most certainly ease off for a few days. I have very little left in the house. ergo, tomorrow i will go to Shoprite and replenish my stock. And now...another miracle. today is my 31st anniversary of employment at my institution. I can only hope that i make it to 32 yrs and 6 weeks to retirement day. I would not relish making the switch from employee to patient. FF

FF, so glad you are feeling better. It's great you have your computer at work so you are not out of touch while yours is getting worked on. Hoping whatever is wrong will be under warranty!

So far have eaten some skinless, boneless chicken , maybe 8oz before cooking. Drinking water but not very fast so not nearly enough.

Damp and dreary here today. Same for you Tony?

Planted some bulbs today my sister had thinned out of her garden. Planted them in DH's garden beds until spring because the dirt digs up like butter. lol Easy to plant. You can see the beds in the background of the snow picture. Snow is gone, long gone I hope.

Thanks Abi, that looks good. I have been doing a search too and am coming up empty. I have found many using pumpkin as the base but nothing with cauliflower and pumpkin. Drat, I wish I remembered where I saw that darn thing.

Hey guys, I'm back! They replaced my screen free of charge! So glad I didn't have to argue about it.
Back to my 0.5 lb lost for the month so far. Really hoping to lose a few more before the end of the month. This week has been crazy at work so I have been working late every day. So by the time I get home, I'm too exhausted for a workout. I did exercise Monday but not since then so I will definitely have to start doing 2 short workouts daily or at least one really long one each day for a few days to make up for it.

Yesterday I finished the day with a green salad with cut up chicken, shredded mozzarella, and vinegar and olive oil dressing. I had wanted to stick with just chicken but couldn't resist having the extras. I was down two of the water retention pounds this morning so am happy about that. Will eat more chicken today and see how that goes.

Vicki, I looked at that recipe again yesterday and noticed there was a note at the bottom that mentioned cauliflower. She also had this link for twice baked yams that uses cauliflower and cream cheese. I guess you would just add the spices to make it taste like the traditional sweet potato casserole.
Thanksgiving recipe: Low-carb, twice-baked yams - National Low Carb | Examiner.com

Artemis, very glad you got your computer fixed. Now hoping FF has the same luck at the same price!

Tony, do you do the cooking for thanksgiving or is it a joint effort?

Marilee, I am with you on the two pounds a week. I know it is doable, I just need to stay consistent on the food choices and amount of intake.

Jenny, how are things with you?

Talk to you all later. Have a great Friday all!

it is Friday, it is cold..what more can anyone ask for?

We are deep into the dangerous time of year. what I mean is that there were only 5 people at the WW meeting last night. They will all be back after Super Bowl Sunday sporting an extra tire or two. Let us all be wise, and learn from OTHERs' misfortunes and not our own. In that amount of time, I can, and have put back 100 lbs.at least 6 times between 1991 & 2008. It is so easy to do.Not this time.It is no wonder that my metabolism is shot to hell. I anticipate only 1 off-plan episode-XMAS dinner at my(earth) brother's. However, i will exercise before and after. Last night, I actually ate only 1/2 the fish. I am having the other half for lunch. I had a small order of ribs from earlier in the week later in the evening. It is amazing how the micro-wave brought it back to life. That is one piece of technology for which I have a great respect. I am ashamed of myself this week for giving into my work schedule and weather and let my exercise schedule get interrupted. At least I haven't gained, but I have to get back on track. I also am going back to cycling my calories because it seems to be the only thing that keeps my metabolism fired up with exercise. So, yesterday and today I am having low cal, tomorrow will be high cal, then back to low cal until Thanksgiving day when I already know I'll be eating more calories even if they are on plan. Then low cal for a few days after that.
Stay warm everybody!

The scale finally moved! Yea!

It's a fun day at work - Sunday is my birthday so I came in to cards and presents. What a wonderful way to start the day!

Vicki, I don't understand why anyone would want to ruin sweet potates by putting cauliflower in them I like cauliflower, but...... I would assume the goal is to cut down on the amount of yams/sweet potates that are used, so lower the carb count, right?

Anywho....have a great day everyone!

Gibby, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

Enjoy the weekend. I have lots to do, and that is a very good thing. I am doing anther big walk tomorrow, early, so I may be home for whatever opera is on the air. I must make room in the fridge for the $300.00 turkey, which i will pick up very early Sunday. And tonight, the stereo moves to the living room. i have put it off long enough. I was quite apprehensive about re-connecting everything. Wish me luck & Love & Profits: FLATFERENGHI

Yea, I found the recipe I was looking for in a cookbook at my house. I will post it later. The cauliflower is cooked and mashed and pumpkin is added along with spices and SF maple syrup to make a faux sweet potato bake.

I am still on plan . . . day 5 currently. However, I still feel fat because my clothes are tight and I hate what I see in the mirror. Isn't that awful? I know that the clothes will get looser and I will feel better about myself . . . eventually, as long as I stay on plan.

I haven't weighed yet, I am afraid to. After the binging on sugar and sweets and off plan items last weekend, I didn't get on the scale. The last time I weighed was a couple of weeks ago and I think I was 213, but am not sure. I will weigh on Monday since that is the day I was back on plan.

I saw the surgeon about my knee yesterday and today I am having the MRI. Next week I will see surgeon again about the results.

Marillee, one of my favorite aunties

Thanks, Vicki! Since you only have 2 Aunts, it isn't hard to do!!!!!

Let us know about the MRI on your knee. Mine is still doing fine with the "chicken shots".

My boss just told me her birthday present to me was 1/2 day off! Yea! I'm out of here at 11:30.....

happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you...

we love you, marilee, and i hope you have a wonderful b-day weekend!

vicki, congrats on the 5 days...those are the hardest - just remember how hard it is to start over when you are trying to stay on the horse!...

artemis, i love the intelligent and thoughtful way you are approaching the challenge - i think the cycling thing is smart and seems to be working and your dedication to exercise should really help accelerate the process...

ff, make sure you label the wires and where they plug in...i resist moving my stereo for the same reason...good luck on the walk tomorrow...

abi, my wife and i split the TG cooking...she makes the stuffed mushrooms, broccoli and cheese sauce, mashed butternut squash & regular mashed potatoes, and antipasto and i make the turkey, gravy and stuffing...so, she does most of the work!...i cook every night, so i think she enjoys doing the majority of the TG cooking...

i was at 218.4 this morning - up .4 from yesterday but .4 below tuesday's weigh-in so i am not imposing a penalty...i think the chicken wings must have been salty because my calorie intake was pretty low yesterday...

today, so far:
b: salad greens
?????????????????????????????

abi,

Hi everyone,
I had a very interesting visit with my doctor yesterday to go over my bloodwork. Apparently I have Hashimoto disease--this is a auto immune disorder where your body is attacking your thyroid which results in a low metabolism, among other symptoms. I have had my thyroid tested in the past because I struggle so fiercely with my weight, but I have never had my the specific test for elevated antibodies (mine were very high which indicates I've had this problem for a long time.) Anyways, my doctor put me on thyroid medication and said any attempts to lose weight would have been very difficult given my hormonal situation.
I have very mixed emotions right now--I was really upset that something is "wrong" with me but at the same time relieved that there is a treatment and also realizing that it's not all "my fault" that I have struggled so much--anyways just thought I would share...

hi jenny, just read up on hashimoto and it says treatment is simple and effective so i can imagine that you must be relieved!...it is the most common form of underactive thyroid, so at least now you know why it has been so difficult to lose weight...i think it is AMAZING that you have done as well as you have, which is a testament to your willpower and dedication...i'm so proud of you...

i am betting that once the medication balances your hormones out, you are going to feel so much better and will have a much easier time with weight...

hmmm, since we are twins, now i am wondering about my thyroid???...

Thanks for the kind words Tony and Vicki.

I know that my condition is treatable, but apparently it can be pretty difficult to find the right brand/type of medication that works best for you and the right doseage....and then when you do, it can change. I feel in pretty good hands with my doctor and she will test me often initially and then every six months.

I've never had any health problems up until now and it's just weird to think I'll have to take a medication the rest of my life... but I'm grateful I found out and that it's treatable and it's not something more serious. I'll just deal with it the best I can and I am hoping I have more energy as I've been feeling really burnt out...

My doctor did explain that the medication won't make me lose weight in and of itself but combined with diet/exercise it shouldn't be as difficult--mostly I'm hoping it will help me to keep it off once I lose it!

I really wanted to go for some comfort food tonight, it's been a long rough week. But instead I made some eggs and lc veggies. So unappealing!
Jenny, glad you got a diagnosis and can start treatment. Hope it helps! I am scheduled to go to an autonomic specialist in February.
Vicki, let us know how the mock sweet potatoes turn out!

Jenny, sorry to hear about your autoimmune diagnosis. I know on Dr. Art Ayers' site "Cooling Inflammation" he talks about Hashimoto's Disease and people who suffer from it respond on his comment section at the end of certain blogs he has written. You might find some of his information and what other sufferers have to say. It certainly explains why losing has been difficult for you. Wishing you the best and that your Dr. prescribes the best medications for you.

Artemis, good for you for sticking with the good healthy food and not giving in to the comfort food that was calling you. Here is a recipe for something called the one minute muffin that is pretty good comfort food to try down the road. It only has 1.5 carbs but don't know the calories.
http://www.lowcarbfriends.com/bbs/lo...in-recipe.html

Tony, is your stuffing the pepperidge farm kind with onions and celery added or something else? Stuffed mushrooms are wonderful!

Marilee, Happy Birthday and what a nice boss to give you the afternoon off! So glad the chicken shots are still working for your knees.

Vicki, the recipe for the sweet potato looks delicious! I looked at Marie Emmerich's web site and she has some good looking recipes!

FF, we miss hearing from you. Hope the computer is back up and running soon!

Have a great Saturday everyone!

Made some more LC pancakes this morning, yum! I still need to perfect the recipe before I post it though. I don't exactly know the nutrition content either, but I wasn't super worried about it because today is my up day in calories. I will get in at least one hour of exercise this morning at the park. I won't be able to run the full hour, but I have some serious catching up to do before the end of the month! My goal is to lose 3-4 lbs before then. I can do this!

Happy Birthday Marilee! Or I guess technically it is tomorrow? You should do something special just for you since you've been working so hard.

Abi, thanks for the one minute muffin recipe. I have heard about it but never tried it.

abi, my stuffing is a homemade bread stuffing and has ground beef, onions, celery, mushrooms, eggs, milk and some spices...old family recipe and my kids love it and won't let me alter it...

i love cornbread and would like to make a cb stuffing...

confession: went to a holiday fair today and ate a homemade oatmeal cookie!... :-) the good news is i had a whole bag of assorted cookies and they sat on the seat next to me in the car and i didn't touch another...

Tony, what will power you had with that bag full of cookies.

I broke down and weighed this morning 213.3. I must have really gained from last weekend because the number today was pretty close to where I was the last time I weighed. Still on plan, but seeing that number really discouraged me.

Vicky, Try not to be discouraged--just forge ahead and before you know it that number will be a distant memory...

Abigale, I will check that info out--thanks

Tony, I love oatmeal cookies too, especially the raw cookie dough. You did a good job not going for the whole bag!

Artemis, thanks for the supportive words--what is an autonomic specialist??

I'm doing okay today, saw a new low a couple days ago, but the scale true to it's evil spirit popped back up today. It will be a while before the new medication I'm on kicks in (a month or more?) but I'm not giving up on my eating plan or trying to lose--if I did I would just gain a ton of weight so I'm still in the game.

Well good news is that I got 4 miles in this morning at the park. Bad news is that I had a minor car accident at the store. I have never had one before so it was a new experience, something I hope to not have again!

Jenny, I have dysautonomia which is a disease of the autonomic nervous system so I am finally getting in to see a specialist. One of the symptoms I"ve had is irregular thyroid so I definitely know the frustration in the weight department! I had to take Synthroid for a bit and it definitely helped. But then they took me off. What are you taking? Having to deal with an illness all the time is tough. Let me know if you ever need to talk

FF, last May you asked what we would pick if we had a planned indulgence. I said it would be the fudge they have at our Christmas Bazaar. Well, I have thought about that more than once since then and guess what was going on today and tomorrow - our Christmas Bazaar, and guess what I am going to have. Once a year instead of never again works for me.

Artemis,
I googled your disorder--I'm glad you're getting to see a specialist. Having the right doctor can help so much. My doctor is new to me but I feel pretty good about her.

She put me on smaller dose of Armour and will gradually increase it as needed. I'm a very stoic person and now realize that I've been pushing myself so hard to make it through the day. I'm actually exhausted today, I don't know if I'm allowing myself to because now I have an reason ....but I can't force myself to do anything today! I'm just giving myself the day off...

I'm really hoping having this diagnosed could change my life for the better, but I just keep reading about how everyone who has this problem always has to get there meds adjusted or how the meds help and then stop helping...it's not very encouraging. My husband says "get off the internet, you're just freaking yourself out!"

I'm just going to try and stay positive. (And I am not reading about the possible side effects of the medication...I always get everyone as I'm reading them if I take any new drug!)
