I used my slow cooker for chili or to do ribs/chicken. You can use salsa or a marinara sauce and just slow cook any meat that way...

Hi Everyone,
I live in Southern Saskatchewan and have been a member of this board since I first discovered it in 2003 (I think). I have been off and on LC and am back on it. I think I have an intolerance to flour or something because since doing LC my stomach doesn't make crazy embarrassing sounds anymore. I feel better and I love the results of losing weight. Glad to see a Canuck thread. |

I just got some wonderful flavourings from Watkins for low carb desserts. I have chocolate, peanut butter and irish cream. Kind of cool to add something besides vanilla. |

Barb,
That is very cool that you made a RL friend here. My favorite flavouring is SF caramel from Starbucks...and the best part is the price is so reasonable. |

to all the newcomers and oldtimers too!I live in Kelowna and I've noticed the prices of good quality food has gone up. It's just hubby and I now(kids are grown)and he low carbs as well. I've got family that raise cows and pigs so I buy in bulk(hormone free, grass fed)from them.I live among orchards and vineyards and get lots of produce and wine just down the road, but shop at Costco for a lot of other things. I will be freezing pumpkin this year as I use it in my morning smoothies and have lots of frozen berries for the winter. I try to pack a lunch for most days at work, although I do eat out a couple of lunches a week. That's the hard part for me. Restaurant food doesn't come close to homemade, either in health or taste. |

Oh hello to all the canucks!!
hockey gal Thanks for the ideas! It's just so much easier to eat well when I have food ready. BTW isn't preseason starting this week?? I hear people at work talking hockey. LCJunkie I can totally relate to the noises haha. I am cured on low carb too. VancouverBarb Just looked at yout stats and congrats you've really done great on low carb! DeltaSierra We are here for you!! What are you taking at school? I went back this year (at 43) and am taking graphic design. shoo I just got a costco membership last month and I can't believe how much cheaper some things are than what I was paying at my local Safeway! I have access to good beef/meat here too and was thinking of buying half a cow to save, but don't think I have enough freezer space.

Hi again to those I've greeted, and howdy to the others I've not!
![]() I'm about 2 hours southwest of Toronto - right on the border with the US. I just bought some pie pumpkins and made some pumpkin pudding (you know, pie sans crust ) with them - OMG, sooooo much better than the canned stuff! So I bought eight more of the little guys - now to find the time to cook 'em up and freeze them! ![]() |

What are you doing to celebrate? For some reason 40 is a milestone in my family. I'd love to go to Vegas w/another couple or some gfs...but so far no one has seemed interested...looking for ideas. Speedymag, preseason has started for the Canucks. I'm happy about that. I am definitely a big hockey fan - tho I do prefer to play hockey. JennieBart, I'm too intimidated to try to make my own pumpkin. But I absolutely LOVE it. I make my pies w/a nut crust tho.

Deanne: Ah, pumpkin's nothing to be intimidated by! I tend to cook often by the law of 'trial and error...and error...and error'. Just jump on in there; you'd probably do better than you think!
![]() Kristyn: **waves hi like a big loon** Not far from me at all!! We're down in the Detroit area all the time - the DH has family in that area, plus we go down there to shop and such. Maybe one day we'll say a real 'hi' to each other rather than this virtual stuff! (That goes double for you, too, Jenny! Newmarket's not too far from me, either! Whee!!!)Delta: Go you! **cheers you on** Sounds like a heavy courseload, but that's fantastic that you're doing it, and I'm sure you'll do just fine! Also, that's a bummer about pumpkin. What is it you don't care for? The taste or the texture? Maybe trying sweet or savoury would help there, or changing the texture? I mean, do you like squashes at all? You can do pumpkin the same way... (Have I mentioned I love fall and all the lovely harvest veggies it brings? )Speedy: Not a silly question at all! They look like your regular jack-o-lantern type pumpkins, but they're a lot smaller, maybe 4-6 inches tall and the same in diameter. When I cooked it up, it's about the colour of an acorn squash on the inside - that nice golden yellow colour. You can see a pic of the actual pumpkin in this link; it's whole, but it gives you a reference for size... ![]() |

Hello all BC'ers, especially those in the Lower Mainland! Anyone want to organize a dinner or a get -together? Like a real live low carb meeting? I live in downtown Vancouver and don't mind hosting...

Since it is pumpkin season...could I make a bunch of pumpkin pulp (assuming I figure out how to do that from an actual pumpkin) and freeze it?

Ahhh, I see!
Hmm...maybe you could substitute acorn squash for pumpkin? The only bummer is that it's a lot more expensive than pumpkin, and doesn't come canned or frozen - at least not where I live! ![]() **pats** I hope you find a good substitute - as you said, it's really versatile. ![]() |

Hello to all you Canadians! I'm not so far from Kingston or Toronto, but you're going to need a boat to take a direct trip... look across Lake Ontario to Oswego, NY and you'll find my farm. And we just picked several bins of fresh pie pumpkins too...

Beautiful fall weather here in Calgary. A bit on the warm side for this time of year 26 today. No complaints though, I'm sure the snow will be flying soon enough!! The fall colours are so lovely this time of year! |

Linda Sue had a great pumpkin bread recipe on her site.
Linda's Low Carb Menus & Recipes My fave pumpkin recipe has to be the flax pumpkin coconut muffins. I LOVE them. I was so jealous everyone can eat the OMM, I find them grotesque. (honestly the smell makes me almost lose it) SO I make a batch of these muffins, freeze them and then just nuke for 30 seconds in the morning...saves me time |
