if i could afford to run my AC...

i would set it to 55F. Then I could cook, and not perspire. The second I walk away from the 20" box fan, I schvitz like I am in a sauna. No fun. FF

FF, you are making a terrific effort with the walking, working out and keeping a strict diet, you just have to see some good results at your weigh in.

I am going to drink more water today. I need to get busy working on getting rid of the extra fat and remember those favorite kacki pants I wanted to get back into this summer - not close.

My brother and family are coming down from their cottage on the lake today. They will be heading back to Georgia either Fri. or Sat. We will sure miss having him around.

today is gym day. what a relief.

i want to reach a point (sooner rather than later)where i crave the gym as much as, or even more than some of my fave carbs (e.g. Wendy's large Frosty, & Nathans French Fries with gobs of ketchup). I am at the point where it is starting to feel natural to be there, but not quite ritualized. I want to weep like a baby if some circumstance should rip me away from being there. FF

Finally! Hit the scales this morning and lo and behold, the dang thing moved down!!!!! Hot dang, praise the Lord!!!

I don't know how you all are surviving with a/c. In all honesty, the midwest and east are having a much worse summer than we are. The humidity wipes me out - I can't stand it!

Here's eats today:

B-3 eggs scrambled
L-1 sm can of tuna with mayo stuffed in a red pepper
D-ribeye steak zucchinni slathered in butter - YUMMY!!!!

TTYL - need to get to work

tony...I feel for you. And with your hip as it is, there's no good way to up the exercise enough to kick your metabolism in gear, I would imagine. Sounds like the pool is great when you have time for it. I'm glad that you've got that option.
That is interesting that the bp, etc. is better and is no longer a motivator. It's a good thing, but yeah, the drive to improve it is missing! I totally get that. You know we'll all be here for you as you figure things out.

Gibby...I just figured out what your avatar was. Hahaha!

Hi folks!

So I took a walk on the beach last Thursday in my bathing suit, with no coverup. What a great feeling. So hence my new avatar. The left pic is me from one year ago June. A work in progress, and I am so glad I did a side-by-side because I printed one out for home, to REMIND ME of my efforts.

Marilee - good girl on your food choices! Smart, smart, smart! And you'll be melting away just like that ice cream truck, keep up the good work!

Tony - sorry to hear the hip is bumming you, the worry & concern definitely can be a stall factor. Just do the best you can and strive NOT to gain at least...hope you can get it fixed with a quick recovery time, keep us posted on this!

Abi - have you tried Hellman's Lite mayo? It's my go-to. However, I'd like to try to make a homemade version sometime with olive oil and eggs. I use mayo sparingly, but my hubby has to have it on his salads.

FF - get the gym habit going and yes, you'll feel better when you plan and go to the gym vs. walking by food temptations! Hope you can get yourself some good sneakers for your dogs!

Vicki - good job moving around in this heat & humidity. Part of me is looking foward to September after last week!!

Hi Kbeth, BecinUK, et all, hope y'all are doing fine!

Nancy

FF...Oooh, I am hoping that endorphin-boosting-gym-rat addiction grabs me, too. I've not been consistent enough for that to take hold yet, either.
Just wondering, would a crockpot heat up your place too much? It'd be nice to come home to a hunk of meat rather than have to spend your $$ at restaurants. I've done that several times in the last few weeks when it's too hot to deal with cooking. (and yes, I do have AC, but if I turn the oven or stove on, forget it. The AC can't keep up.)

Abi...The khaki pants, lol. That's what I had to do last week to get back with it. As much as I believe LC improves my health, it takes something like looking at recent pics or clothes that I can't wear to actually motivate me!! Whatever works, I say.

Kbeth, OMG, my hubby is -- as they say in New England -- wicked addicted to going to Planet Fitness. And I have to admit, I am now rather stoked to go, and always, always feeling so good and glad afterward!! I see the same folks each time I go as if we are on the same schedule.

Love your idea of the crockpot, they really should NOT heat up the kitchen too much. I think I'll try something in it to check it out!

ff, what i have found is that once you go through the initial pain of getting used to the workouts, what keeps you going is the avoidance of that re-introduction to that pain...i know that is what keeps me doing the exercise i am able to do...don't place too much importance on the scale for the next couple of weeks as i usually gain weight after starting more rigorous exercise...keep the faith!

kbeth, thanks for the kind words...i do need to lose those last 30+ lbs. to have a shot at getting off the meds i am on - i think that will ultimately be my motivation - but i am a bit too happy (unjustifiably!) with where i am right now...i'll get there and appreciate the support - i know i couldn't do it without you guys...

nancy, you're lookin' hot, girl... ;-)

hey marilee, the northeast had some really hot days, but it is now back to normal - 70s ans 80s and sunny and nice...i hope it keeps up!...

today:
b: crustless quiche
l: grilled chicken
d: baked salmon

thanks for the crockpot advice, kbeth.

but, i do not like to leave anything on, when i leave my apartment. I am gone for at least 12 hours. Also, I am un-insured. I do not want to come home to a burned building. Once the place cools down, i can make my creations again. Tony; have u given any thought to a hip replacement procedure? It is a simpler procedure (for the surgeon)than the knee replacement. T minus 4 days to MOHEGAN SUN. And it is going to be scorching again in the BAKED APPLE from Fri thru Sun. So, it will be a great getaway. I am 99.44% certain i will have a porterhouse at Michael Jordan's steakhouse; with grilled mushrooms and onions, if they have it. Let me know a.s.a.p. what the prognosis is regarding whether u can come there or no. FF

ff, i will let you know if i can make it - right now it looks like the kids want to go to maine, but i'm trying to put that off til sunday or monday...you are going to mohegan on saturday, right?...

the local ortho doc said i needed a hip replacement in april, 2010 - i keep putting it off, but it's gotten pretty bad...i think it's inevitable...probably will have it done at mass general in boston...i'm gonna try to get the same surgeon who operated on the governor last year... :-)

Nancy, you look terrific! You have made some great changes!

Beth, if I don't watch it I will never get into those pants again. I am up two pounds this morning. I know it is the nuts. Other than them I only ate brocolli, cauliflower and sour cream dip yesterday. I think I am suffering from delayed stress and sadness from the kids coming and now gone home. I will be fine in afew days and back to normal but need to stop eating the nuts today!!

Marilee, so glad to hear the scales are moving down for you! I know that cheers you up!

FF, smart planning to be at the air conditioned casinos over a hot weekend. Even if you don't win a dime you will come out ahead with the enjoyment you will feel!

Tony, getting off the meds sounds like good motivation for losing the last 30 pounds. But I know what you mean about being satisfied at the moment at where you are at. Unfortunately I have been at that spot for far too long and now have gone up afew pounds. I need to get my mind back to paying attention to what I am mindlessly eating and how much I am eating. I did drink a little more water yesterday but not nearly what I should be. Maybe today I will increase that. It is my afternoon and evening off so I will have more time to concentrate on it.

Vicki, how is the kitchen coming along?

well, win or lose, the Troll will have his Porterhouse.

It will be interesting to see if their steak is tastier than mine. But the ride to and fro should be enjoyable as well, so long as there is a.c. and a working bathroom. T minus 3 days to MS (Mohegan Sun). Today is weigh-in. the scale god had better be generous. FF

abi, i think you are probably right about the delayed stress and sadness...this isn't easy under the best of circumstances, but we can only handle so much loss at any one time - at least that is my theory :-)

ff, so have you eaten at michael jordan's steakhouse at mohegan before?...if not, what have you heard about it?...if so, tell me what it's like!

darn, left the house without eating any breakfast - that's never a good thing as my stomach is rumbling...

Gnawing on a leftover hunk of red meat as I go thru posts (typing w one hand) It is soo tasty, but cheap and tough. I am pretending it's beef jerky!! I heart this woe!

Nancy...LOVE the before and after. That is really cool! I'll bet it's nice to have photographing evidence that changes are a-happening even during those times it doesn't feel like it.
Oh, and I can't wait to be "wicked addicted" to the gym again! I also love that feeling afterwards.

never been to Mohegan Sun.

I googled MS, and checked out the restaurant situation vis a vis: what would be suitable for low carb eating. MJ steakhouse jumped out at me, suggesting that it might be a good place to get steak. That is all i know. MS has quite a number of eating places incl buffets. So, win, lose, or draw, the TROLL eats cow on Sunday. FF

my salute to Swiss Miss....

my usual work structure ALMOST always allows me to eat considerably less food than if i was home. However, as u can see, the operative word here is ALMOST. I was ready to eat the furniture this afternoon. That is how hungry I was. I have plenty of SWISS MISS (she deserves to be capitalized) packets in the drawer. But I have no whipped cream. Well, these are desperate times, which calls for a desperate response. I took 2 envelopes and added the hot water, and stirred. i cannot believe how filling those 50 cal (8 net carbs)were. It most coitanly took the edge off the ravenous hunger. AND, i did not miss the WC (whipped cream)either. I have consumed today, thus far 14& 1/2 net carbs for the day. There is a chance that i might go over the top (a few more than 20). But my walk should burn them in no time. FF

Hi everyone....

I don't believe I didn't weigh in this morning So, hopefully the scale will be down tomorrow. I did have a couple of Nathan's all beef hot dogs (no bun of course) and they are a little high in sodium so I need to chug down lots of water to flusn it out - may be a shot of acv too when I get home.

My brother who has been visiting from Georgia will be visiting Poland, Hungary and Czechoslovakia on Aug. 19th with a group of college buddies. They went to Europe the year they graduated from UVM and have gone on an anniversary trip every 5 years since then. They always have t-shirts made with their "logo" and hats with the flags of the countries they visit. Alan was telling me today that when one of the guys ordered the shirts this year from the well known company with the initials LE the guy taking the order wanted to know more about them. Well they are written up in the company's blog this week. It is called the LE Business Outfitters Blog and the article is "The best of the past is worth repeating, right?
Alan is the first one on the left in the back row. The stories of their trips are hilarious.

Today I have eaten three pork spare ribs, some brocolli and cauliflower with ranch dip and 3 bottles of water. NO NUTS!!!

i did not go over the top!!!

my dinner was just a large sliced roast pork. no veggies. I did not get in the walk that i desired. I was just feeling my stride(with the help of caffeine, when i felt a certain intestinal requirement, and there was nowhere to go. So, i had to take the bus to Shoprite (my destination anyway). I made it just in time. Tony, it is Sunday that i am going, not Saturday. However, family is first. If the kids want to go to Maine, I recommend going to Maine. I would love to go to Maine as well. It has got to be cooler than the BAKED APPLE. I will be going to MS (DIS FAVENTIBVS)on Sept 23...The birthday of the divine Augustus, & the first day of Autumn. that will be a day to celebrate. If you can get away then, I will spring for a mug of ice cold (low carb)beer. I have never had a lc beer. If i was not doing the 100 lb challenge, i would have a good imported regular beer. I will most certainly give y'all a report of MS, especially what i ate. FF

So far today I have had an ounce of cheese, two pork ribs with mild hot sauce on them, and a bratwurst with a little mustard. I am getting ready to drink about 3 16oz bottles of water over the afternoon. The nuts have called a little to me but I have ignored them so far.

FF, love your "Baked Apple" expression. Have fun on Sunday and good luck!

Abi - STEP AWAY FROM THE NUTS. HIDE THEM. Fuggedabout 'em! They are such a temptation so if you do succumb, count out 12 pieces. That's it!. Good luck! Otherwise, you're eating quite smartly today, good job!

FF - need Brooklyn restaurant recommendations please! My co-worker is there next week Tues-Thurs with another guy to fix a printing press. Can you recommend some really good local restaurants? AMerican/Italian/decent steak? We thank you in advance!

How is everyone else doing? OK here........on plan today

i can only recommend what i can afford.

For Italian, go to FIORENTINO's Ave U just off McDonald Ave. there is a place in the Bay Ridge section of Brooklyn called EMBERS(for steak). It is above my station price-wise. For steak the troll goes to the VEGAS Diner, (86th st & 17th Ave), or the Mirage Diner (Kings Hwy & East 8th St.) The Mirage has a 28 oz porterhouse for under $30.00. Otherwise, I eat at McD, BK & Wendys. He will have to google the precise adresses and phone #s. I always enjoy my meals at these places. The salads are always fresh, and the coffee is good. Also, a visit to the TASTY PASTRY SHOPPE (13th ave between 82nd & 8rd St. is de rigeur. He must try the low carb cheesecake, even if he does not need to diet, it is the best of all worlds...for low carb, for low fat, and for non-dieters alike. Perhaps he can bring some transportable low carb stuff back with him. There is an orange pamphlet which lists the low carb stuff. Obviously, he can't bring back the gelato. Aside from the cheesecake, there is tiramisu, charlotte russe, cookies, chocolates, pound cake, muffins, AND the low carb bread (whole and multigrain-3 gr for 2 slices). This is the stuff that i have had & enjoyed. The girls behind the counter...well i want to marry them all and move to Utah. Well, enough chit chat. i see that i am getting carried away. hey kbeth, speaking of jerky, my son picked up a "dehydrator" and we make jerky quite often...we marinate it in different stuff and it's done overnight and you can make a lot and store it in a mason jar...we use beef and turkey, etc...it makes a great lc snack and doesn't have all the salt of store-bought...

ff, i've never been in the casino at mh - just the huge arena they have there where we saw a concert...seemed like a cool place...are you going with friends?...still no decision on maine, but i'm supposed to be in nashville on sept 23rd...when we finally do get together, the steaks are on me, brother...

marilee, i've heard so much about nathan's hot dogs, and i've never had one...that's gotta change!...good luck with the weigh-in...

abi, great menu yesterday - congrats on avoiding the nuts...maybe you should get them out of the house?...that's what i have to do...

nancy, any plans to be at the village anytime soon?...don't give up on me!...lol..

i've had a very good couple of days...none of my days are bad, just a few too many calories...i need to replace my digital scale - i am lost without it...the mechanical scale is hard to read...seems like i am holding steady in the 213 range...

b: crustless quiche
l: tuna salad

Nancy and Tony, unfortunately the nuts are at Mom's and they are requested by the rest of the family that drops by as a snack. Counting out 12 is a good idea but whether I can keep to that amt. when I am in binge mode is another story. Thanks guys!

Had a hamburg and salad with sour cream/ranch seasoning for dinner last night.

Hoping you all have a great Saturday!

abi, i'm sure you can handle having stuff around better than i can...AND you could be eating a lot worse stuff than nuts, which are very healthy!

the steaks last night were unbelievably good!...seared them on the grill and they were juicy inside - the kids gobbled them up!...

fam went blueberry picking yesterday and now we have over 25 lbs. of blueberries all over the kitchen...they are delicious!...i DO eat healthy fruit in moderation...

no idea what the menu is for today...i'll let ya know later, but i have been feeling pretty motivated the last couple of days...admitting to myself that i wasn't motivated, may have helped!

the last 24 hrs have not been w/o incident.

I was on the #8 bus yesterday, on the way to the gym...got a seat, a/c working, had my water. 10 minutes later, i was possessed by a wave of nausea, that begged my exclusive attention. I got off the bus, found a fairly private spot, and heaved into an empty SHOPRITE bag (hail SHOPRITE!). I took the next bus home, aimed the fan at my face, and fell asleep. When I woke up, later that evening, I was in no mood to eat. It was past curfew anyway. So after some channel surfing , I fell asleep and woke up today. I broke a personal walking record -235 minutes. That is not counting the distance from the gym to the bus stop, and the bus stop to home (to which i would have to add an add'l 10-12 minutes. ) However, we will call that a "gimmee", like in golf. At the gym, i bypassed the treadmill, and did the chest machine and the biceps. I also was quite satisfied with just 8 oz of sliced roast pork. That and the pistachio gelato (lc)at the bakery was the only solid food i consumed today. I will still eat cow tomorrow, BUT, it will be at the burger place, not the steakhouse. Gotta conserve latinum. The bus leaves at 8:15am tomorrow. The lady who sold me the ticket said, that the bus seats are narrow, and that I will probably have to sit in the back. I said:"as long as it is air-conditioned, i will be happy to sit in the toilet!!!" Well, ZHU NI HAO YUN (GOOD LUCK) to me. Love & Profits: FLATFERENGHI
