I need to vent

Sorry guys, but I need to unload to my friends....

In the mail yesterday was a packet from my insurance company offering a free wellness check up feature. It said that, because of my risk for diabetes and other complications related to obesity, they would have a nurse call me and offer me suggestions on how I could work on losing weight. EXCUSE ME???? I've been battling this for 30 years - Nutri-Systeml; Slim Fast; cabbage soup diet; grapefruit diet; Certified Nutritionist; Weight Watchers; injecting myself; low cal; low fat; vegan; etc. and they are going to have a nurse call me and OFFER ME SUGGESTIONS? Hells freaking bells, people, I could give HER/HIM some freaking suggestions!!!

There, I feel better. Thanks for letting me get it off my chest before I ate a gallon of ice cream!

do it, gibby.

make her feel small. who knows..she may even be hip to low carb. one can only hope. and...feel free to vent. better to talk to us, than succumb to emotional off-plan eating. As a matter of fact, when i go back to the Dr. I will have to educate her. I do not believe she knows that there are (at least) 2 kinds of ldl. I will also explain that as long as my triglycerides are low, the chol is just a mere footnote in the scheme of things. FF

marilee, please don't ever apologize for venting to us in here...that's what we do for each other...and don't let what a dopey insurance company suggests, get you down at all...

you are on a path to finally whipping this...we're gonna be here with you until you do and you're gonna be here for us too...we're a team!...let the insurance company deal with that...lol...

ff, i would have never thought to cook drumsticks for almost 2 hours!...they don't dry out?...hmmm...gonna have to try that too... :-)

Thanks, Tony and ff - I just was so humiliated, embarrassed, and angry at that packet I had to let off steam. I so appreciate your support.

these are not hard and fast rules, but approximations.

everyone's oven is different. it is very difficult to overcook dark meat. I must say that when i do this a year from now. i will be able to dip it into some applesauce-unsweetened. I alway used that for anything breaded, up until my low carb days. actually, if i can limit my portion size to a few T, and if I do some phys. activity afterwards, maybe sooner than 1 yr. FF

drumsticks are done. they are beautiful...

however, they will stay uneaten until after weigh-in on Thursday. The sodium content in the pork rinds may sabotage the scale. I am not taking any chances. Most certainly worth the wait. I popped my head into the fridge to say hello to the cheesecake. he sends u love. FF

if i DON'Tmake 2DORLAND this week...it was nothing EYE did wrong!!!

Oh, the bagels just arrived. The 1st thing I did was slice them in half, and put them in the freezer, at work of course. They average to a decimal point above 3 gr per 1/2 bagel. I will alternate them with my low carb bread so both will last twice as long. Weekends are bread/bagel free, in the event i use Dreamfields. Well the rain/snow is returning to NY and environs. I must have the super of my building get me sheets of plastic to lay over my electronics, and floor. i do not think the roofers came, although they had a whole dry week to "git er done". I am livid with anger, and stressed because stress elevates cortisol levels, and cortisol inhibits weight loss. FF

Marilee -- argghh on the ins. co. If it was me, I would pick up the phone and call them, ask for the nurse. Say "You know what, I would REALLY LIKE TO thank you for the information packet, but I wanted to update you on my most excellent progress! I have changed my eating lifestyle since_____ and have lost ____ . And nurse will be all "uh uh, oh, that's great." No more details than that! That will give YOU the satisfaction and CLOSURE!

You know, health insurance companies all must be shaking in their shoes working out their actuarial tables with the increasing weight issues in the U.S. population! They must have some idea of the future heavy burden of carrying people through the potential complications and health issues that
can come with obesity (diabetes, heart issues, etc. etc. and look at the growing number of overweight children). The health insurance companies are sending out newsletters, emails, packets, etc. in an effort to be proactive and foster preventitive measures. is something they have to do to stem the hemorrage of insurance claims they'll have to process in the future. Oh gee, just thought of Obama's health care plan, and now it all makes sense.

FF - stay cool, don't let the frustration goof you up in the food department!
I work in tech support and used to get really rattled over some tough customer situations and would raid the cookies/candy/crap here at work. No more, I am cool as a cuke. Like your recipes, thanks.

Hi Tony, Tammy, et all. Have a good Wed!

and throughout ther alpha quadrant of this galaxy, no doubt.

i only wish Dr. Atkins were here now to take advantage of these wonderful products that were only available quite recently. However, as he is the newest healing God in the pantheon, i am sure he has access to this stuff. I believe that many of these items are superior in quality to anything Atkins Nutritionals puts out. But, i wish someone would make a liar out of me. The name counts for a lot. FF

ff, sounds like you had a big "O"...i'm talking about the shape of the half bagel, of course! ;-) i'm jealous...lol...

marilee, congrats on the big loss...you are awesome, kid...hope you're planning to carry me in april, cuz i'm planning on limping into 1derland next month...

nancy, i'm sure you're right about the insurance companies...like all insurance comps., they love collecting premiums and hate paying claims...but obesity is an epidemic in this country and it's obvious why...i swear i have to avoid at least 90% of what is in the supermarket...i don't know how anyone can be healthy eating most of that stuff...

had a good day today...started out that the scale read 205, so i may have dropped a couple lbs. of water...didn't eat much all day as i was on the road, and ate a good on-plan meal tonight...a little salty, but LC...

congrats to all of us who made it through blitz IV - tomorrow is the final day - let's send it out in style!

a sense of humor, even a warped one...

is an important asset when doing something so challenging as achieving PERMANENT weight loss. Last night I was re-reading as many Blitz IV posts as there was time for. That went into past midnight. I also was thinking of our friends who are not currently participating in the Blitz lately, such as Clanger, & Kbeth. But, i hold a special feeling for Adam/Warrior Scholar. We had been communicating for well over a year prior to the beginning of Blitz I. I felt i came to know him, and regarded him as friend & brother. I feel a certain sense of resentment (perhaps unjustified?)that he just upped and left us w/o a word. of course i hope they are all well, and doing fine. So, what has this last Blitz done for me??? I have not accomplished anything in the way of lbs lost...not substantially. But i have prepared the way for consistent weight loss, which I hope i will demonstrate later today. I did not realize, taking Tony's idea about the 9 PM curfew, that i began it on 3/9. I thought it was later in the month. It has become a ritual now. From 9pm, the only thing i consume is plain water. I am able to make PERMANENT changes by experimented for a few days. This week, i have kept my soda consumption to an acceptable minimum. I have also developed the ability to minimize any deviations from plan; ATKINS & WW. Even though i gained 7 lbs in one week, i did drop it again the week after. In the sense i mean BINGE, i cannot really say I reverted to that behavior in the past year. What i call a binge is high carbing it on New Years & carrying it all the through until Christmas. All my deviations from 4/1/10 through today were quite limited. I am making serious progress in portion control. I have also learned to forgive myself after a "slip" planned or unplanned. What do i wish I can accomplish in the next 3 months? I would like to be able to do more consistent exercise. I would like to find out what makes me forget everything I have learned just before i DOo have a slip. How can i stop myself beforehand???I would like to learn how to keep cortisol to a minimum w/o meds. Stress releases cortisol . Cortisol inhibits weight loss. Well, something to deal with in Blitz V. My bedroom looks like Baghdad. I have towels covering as much floor space as is likely to get wet. i have sheets of plastic covering from the printer all the way over to the tower. I am hoping it is merely precautionary. So, this is a good time to wish everyone farewell. Yes, i am moving to Utah, & taking my 2 wives with me. U may have heard of them: SWISS MISS & LITTLE DEBBIE (I thing the age of consent is 12 in that state) Love & Profits: FLATFERENGHI

Oh dear, I am cracking up over FFs post! Utah?!? HA! Seriously, FF, I could give you a big hug. That was a very introspective post. You have a handle of where you've been, where you're going, and what your triggers are. Just take each hill as it comes. RE confrontation with stressful events..you really have to dig deep to summon up all the resolve you can muster and not let it overtake you. This is something I am still working on (and always will) and I really have to hold on to the railings tight when it happens. Front seat of the roller coaster...........

OK kids, I'm down to 205. You hear that TONY?!!
My March total loss is ....drum roll...........9.5 lbs!

The shoreline of Onederland is getting so close I don't need no stinkin' binoculars! It is definitely going to happen in April.

I was in the supermarket last night and yes, the amount of items off my rotation numbers in the thousands! But think of the BIG BUSINESS all this processed food takes/makes from farming subsidies/the Conagra's/the chemicals to process/the packaging/the advertising and then the big screen televisions that zoom in on the gooey pizza and make it look so good!!!! The concept of "everything in moderation" allows a person to make reasonable choices and enjoy snacks and treats...BUT the bombardment and availability of fast food/processed food/sedentary lifestyle and lax portion control is creeping in bigtime to the American culture.

well, a year ago, i went for my semi-annual dr.'s appt., and although i thought i felt fine, after the results of my bloodwork, it was obvious i wasn't "fine"...already on blood pressure and blood sugar meds, the doc insisted the dosages needed to be increased...when i balked and said i didn't want that, she said my health was "a ticking time bomb"...

i needed a good dose of introspection...i did not want to continue the spiral of more meds and poorer health and then more meds...i knew my weight was the major contributing factor and the times when i had lost as few as 10 lbs. always resulted in my blood work improving...but it was hard and i always gained it back, and although i never got back up to the really high 272 i was in 2003, i couldn't seem to break free of the 240-245 range...

facing my own demise, i needed to lose weight, and i couldn't afford to yo-yo this time...i was 51, and time was running out...i refused the increased meds, but i knew i needed to approach this weight-loss project in a totally different way if i hoped to get different results...normally a "loner" in such journeys, i knew i needed help...so i got on line and searched for support groups...somehow i found this site and somehow i found ff's blitz I, which was only a week old...i joined in, somewhat desperate, not knowing if it would help or be the right place for me...

almost one year and 40 lbs. later, i know it was absolutely the right place for me...early on, i made a commitement to post here every day i had access to a computer, and i have...the love and support i have found here, and the friends i have made, have been a total surprise and an unbelievable blessing...

i have had my successes and slips, but thanks to all of you and many others i have not seen in a while, this time has been completely different and i weigh less and feel better than i have in 20 years...my bloodwork last summer, after i had lost 20+ lbs. was soooo much better - there was no need to increase my meds...i am hoping that soon i may be able to decrease some of them...

i am thankful to ff for starting this, for friends like jenny and kbeth and clanger who helped get me through my roughest patch last summer, and to all the girls who joined us during these last 2 blitzes, especially marilee, tammy, nancy, vicki and lizzie who post so often and have helped us double the activity in blitz IV over all our other blitzes...and i know i haven't named everyone and i apologize, but i love you all and am grateful to you as well... :-)

for those of you who have posted in the past and don't post anymore, or don't post as often, i do not feel anything but love and appreciation and the hope that either you found what you needed elsewhere, or you will find your way back to us if you think it will help...we'll always be here for you with open arms...

for those who have never been a part of this but would like to be, i want you to know that you will be considered family as soon as you make your first post and i hope you will join us...there's definitely strength in numbers...if you find half of what i found here, it will change your life...

and lastly to my brother: you helped save me, and i will be forever grateful...there were times when these blitzes were down to just you and me posting, but instead of abandoning this, you stuck it out and stood by my side...and i will stick by yours...THANK YOU for EVERYTHING you do to make this place a home...love ya, man...

i'll post more today and a link to blitz V before it's too late!...lol...
