ff, i agree, that is the difference between this past year and all the others before it: we don't let slips turn into falls, and we can handle some off-plan eating without feeling guilty and out of control...i credit the support here for a lot of that...i could not have done this alone...

hoping for another good day today!

I couldn't agree more!! I had to smile when FF said he takes responsibility for what the scales will say this week.....that's right where I'm at as well. The scale this morning said I'm up 2 pounds. Before that would have frustrated me to no end and I'd have justified more bad eating. Now I realize that A) It's not a REAL 2 pound gain...my transgressions were not that great and B) It'll come right back off along with more of this weight if I just stay the course.

Having you all here walking the same path has indeed made all the difference in the way I approach this...thank you!!!

Well I've gotta get ready for work...and I have a little dog here who's VERY jealous that I'm typing instead of playing with her!
Have a great day everyone!!

Morning! Still fighting the crud but feeling better.

Lost 2 pounds of the beaucoup weight I gained by being sick. Hoping to drop some more.

Hey Vicki, what a difference a week makes - remember highway 89A in Sedona? They closed it and part of the freeway we took up there yesterday afternoon due to a winter storm that came through (we had rain all day). Lots of accidents and bad road conditions. See, if you had delayed your trip by one week, we wouldn't have been able to go and it was so warm and sunny when we went

tony - wonderland awaits!!!!! KUTGW

FF-as always you are an inspiration

would love to get a(gentlemans') betting pool going

over whether Tony will get to 1derland before yours truly gets to 2dorland, or vice versa. Just for fun, put in your imaginary bets. I think Tony will get there 1st, but not for my lack of trying. It is sodium versus thyroid. FF

energy i got. but i am so set in my ways.

in order to get me to do some walking after work, i am walking over to SHOPRITE(before i go into my building), and treat myself to a 2nd cup of joe (maybe 1/2 decaf/1/2 real deal)and then go up and down the aisles. Perhaps there will be a nice piece of London Broil or shell steak. Dare i even hope for a piece of wild salmon? In any case, I will be out of the house and on my feet. FF

great to see so many of you today!

lizzie, it's been great having you in blitz IV - lookin' forward to sharing blitz V with you...

tammy, if i had a nickel for every time i transgressed this past year, i'd have enough to send ff a treadmill!...you've done GREAT this blitz!

marilee, congrats on the 2 lbs. - i'm betting the rest is soon to follow!...happy you're feeling better... :-)

having a good day so far:
b: hb egg
l: mandarin orange
s: several unsalted pistachios
d: salad and buffalo wings?

scale was back down to 204 today...i'm afraid to climb on another scale - if this one is broken and i'm really still 220, i'd probably jump off a building!...lol...i feel thinner though, so i'm counting on that number being pretty close to accurate...

i'm almost ready for a smaller size pair of jeans...i usually buy the LL bean jeans with the relaxed fit waistband (elastic on both sides)...i've been in these size 34s for a while now - i think they extend to 38, so i am definitely NOT a real 34 yet, but they are getting a bit baggy, so i may a smaller pair just to be prepared...i bought these 34s and couldn't wear them for a month or so cuz they were a bit tight...it gives me an added incentive...

i need to make a new hole in my belt too...this is the second belt i've had during these blitzes - the first got too long after making 2 or three new holes...yea!

ff, i'm betting you get there first...and i'm hoping we both get there in april - i think that's a pretty sure bet, don't you?...this morning i was at 204 - where were you on your most recent weigh-in?

i have an advantage in that i don't have foot or thyroid problems (that i know of), but i have considerably less discipline than you do, so that's what will make this a horserace!...lol...

i'm pulling for ya, brother!

marilee, you'll probably beat both of us!...i'm pulling for you too!...there could be at least 4 of us hitting a new century in april...

well, i had an interesting night...had two new songwriters stop by my office at 5 for some advice about nashville, etc...we talked until almost 10 o'clock tonight and we all know what that means: no dinner for me since it is after my curfew!!!...drats!...i'm so hungry, but i'm not giving in...i don't think i ate 300 calories today...i'm looking at it as an unplanned near-fast... :-)

if the scale is higher tomorrow, i'm throwing it in the dumpster!...

hope everyone else had a great day...

i deserve a beating. i whoosed out again.

i fought an inner battle with myself on the way home. I lost. I went upstairs, got out of something less comfortable, put on the radio, and woke up about 7:30pm. I am adhering to the food part of the plan, anyway. Perhaps PBS can do something about this. We can call it 'THIS OLD TROLL'. Sorry u missed dinner, Tony. Keeping to the curfew shows character. If u do not have a good weigh-in, i will buy a scale and then throw it out the window. Well, of course I won't, just trying to be supportive. FF

ff, thanks for the character comment - i did think about that and about you guys when i was deciding what to do last night...i've faltered so many times in this past year and you guys always stuck by me, i didn't want to let you down...

if the scale is unkind today, i'll ship it over, and then you can throw it out the window for me - and i'm very serious about it! :-) hopefully, that will be unnecessary once i see the results of today's weigh-in...the fact is that i had about a 2000 calorie deficit yesterday which = about 1/2 lb....it should show up sometime this week...

i was not planning any fasts between now and april 7th - in fact, i had virtually given up on 1derland by my one year anniversary - thanks to ff and others, i had softened my obsession with that - but i'm guessing yesterday's "accident" puts 1derland back in play, even if a longshot...

it's no big deal, one way or the other, but i'm so damn good at eating, it's nice to see that ff's "fates" can thwart my best attempts at ballooning, when they have a mind to...
:-)

i just ate the 2 smallest eggs in the alpha quadrant

as a matter of fact, they may be humming bird eggs. if i forget the words, i'll know i was right. but they were good. i was 307 last week, Tony. the best i can hope for is that Mon-Thurs discipline will undo the weekend damage. I am actually less concerned with 2-dorland, and more concerned with my new found sloth. Weekdays are the problem. After work, i have no inclination to do anything. Perhaps that will change once the spring weather manifests itself. FF

with this crapola weather, ff, it's hard to get motivated to do anything outside...i have temporarily abandoned my earlier commitment to try to walk with this bad hip...just too raw and unappealing out there...i'm sure we'll both find some ambition once it warms up...

hummingbird eggs - yum! LOL

Mornin all!

Lizzie, Marilee...GOOD JOB on losin', keep it up!

Tammy, I know how it is with the wine! It's amazing how a little over-indulgence makes for carb cravings!! I hate being so drag-ass at Planet Fitness on Sunday mornings!!! arggh!!

Tony - the scale SHOULD be kind to you today, ya think?!?!? You are so in sight of the OneDerLand. Good that the clothese are getting looser!

I have some next-size down clothing, and tried on a pair of pants yesterday, YUP, got the zipper up but still couldn't breathe so I need to drop some more poundage. I have a LOT of clothese in the "next size down" category, I really won't need to shop much.

My end-of-month goal is to be in the next decade, I don't care where. I have written 208 on my calendar for 3/31.

My two-month goal is to lose 13 more lbs (for a total loss of 57 lbs) by May 21! That's my 57th birthday, so I would be able to call it "57 by 57"!!! I'll shoot for this with the warmer weather coming and more walking, etc. I will give it a good effort.

OK, onward and downward on the scale everyone!!
Nancy

Good morning everyone!

It's a beautiful sunny day here in Phoenix....Boys I'm sorry you're having such crummy weather, it does make it hard to get out and walk when the weather is so nasty!

Lizzie Great job with the two pounds!!!

Marilee you're kicking butt again as well, all that sodium from the soup is falling away!

Nancy 57 by 57 is AWESOME....and so attainable, I just know you can do it!!!

FF, I don't think you're being a sloth at all....that word is kind of harsh...You've made amazing progress and you're continuing to make progress, and that's what counts. Sometimes I think we're far to hard on ourselves.

Tony look at you.....sticking to your curfew even though you worked through dinner...you're the man! With commitment like that you'll be seeing 1nderland in no time at all!!

I'm tired today, woke up far too early (4 am) couldn't get back to sleep and I have a busy day ahead of me at work! Pray I have energy and a clear head!!

Have a great day everyone!!

Nancy, love the "57 by 57" idea. Now there's a unique challenge.

Pulling for you guys, Tony and FF, on reaching Onederland.

FF, I feel for you on the slothdom. I thought I was sluggish this year because of the freakishly cold weather we were having this winter -- but that let up. Now we're back to average temps, no ice. And I *still* don't want to go out and walk every day. I don't know what happened to my energy this winter, but I think it must have flown South.

My scale may go up or down day to day, but my weekly average is still stuck exactly where it was at the end of November. So it seems safe to assume that I've hit a stall. I was playing with the idea of trying Slow Carb (which so many of my exercising friends have loved), but as I started to make a shopping list and menu plan, something in me just yelled NO!!! I was surprised and sat down to do some journaling on that last night, and came to realize that maybe I need a break from the strenuous dieting. I've been following LC/VLC for 3 years now, watching both carbs and calories, sticking to mostly whole foods, and also eating within an IF window for about the last year and a half. And I think some part of me is just exhausted by the very idea of restrictions and an overly structured eating plan. I'm not sure what a break would look like exactly (I don't want to lose ground here, after losing 120 pounds), but maybe I need to figure that out. I just have no enthusiasm at all for trying a fat fast, slow carb, returning to Induction (I eat close to induction level now) or any of the other low-carb diet tweaks I can think of. In 3 years, except for very rare occasions (like my New Year's day off plan this year), I haven't deviated or taken breaks at all, and maybe I should have. Maybe you can burn out on even what should be a healthy nutritional plan.

Tony, on those days where you can't eat because of your commitment to not eat in the evening, can you have some chicken or beef broth to take the edge off?

scale read 203 this morning, so i'm down another lb. and this is a new low - hoping i can hang onto that til friday and official weigh-in...if i can, and i can lose 2 lbs. a week for the next two weeks (no easy thing at all for me!) i would hit 1derland by the 7th...if i do, i do, if i don't, i don't, but i'm trying really hard...

marilee, i can change my rules, and that change seems so reasonable (and thanks for caring about me), BUT i have learned that if i give myself an inch, i take a mile - i am so much less disciplined than i thought i was when i started this a year ago...so, i am using what i've learned about "me" to try to formulate a strategies that will lead to me get to goal SOMEDAY!...lol...i've had to tweak and change things so many times in the last year, just to break up stalls or shorten my leash...

for whatever reason, i am in a little short-term zone where i seem to be able to manage my hunger, and my intake is lower most days than it has been for awhile...i wanna ride it for as long as it lasts - it may be over by dinner tonight - ya never know!

thank heavens for the curfew!

lizzie - awesome job on the 2 lbs. - you rock, girl! you are not going "nowhere fast" - you're goin' somewhere slow, like the rest of us...lol...

nancy, happy you have a wardrobe for the next size down...for me, it's been so long since i was this size, everything was either moth-eaten, thrown out or out of style, so i've got to get to kohl's soon :-) i think your goals are ambitious but attainable and i credit you for shooting high...i'm bettin' on ya, kid...

tammy, hope you don't fall asleep in your soup today!...lol...enjoy the sunshine for those of us stuck at 40-degrees...thanks!

shadows, i feel for ya...you have done so great for so long - you have a new body these days...if you feel you need a break, you probably do...take some time and eat in a healthy, moderate way and maybe just allow yourself a 5 lb. range or so that you try to stay within...only impose restrictions if you go above that - just a suggestion...best of luck, whatever you decide - i just hope you still check in with us here :-)

words of advice from the old troll.

whether u have a thyroid condition or not, whether u are stalling or not, GET THE THYROID CHECKED. thyroid function fluctuates, not only as we get older, but especially when we are losing weight. FF

hmmmm...sounds like good advice, but how do they check the thyroid?...is it blood work?...i have absolutely no symptoms of any kind - would the doc order this test routinely, or do you have to request it?...on what basis would someone request something like that?...

i generally subscribe to the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" theory of medical intervention...lol...in fact, it was my desire not to have my meds "upped" that led me to get serious about losing weight and finding blitz I...

but i know nothing about the thyroid, so i will defer to the wise ferenghi on this subject! :-)

wow, where did everyone go?...lol...

finished the day up well...had to take my daughter on some errands and almost missed dinner again tonight...luckily, i got home 10 minutes before 9 and was able to eat some chicken wings...at about 5, i was worried i'd miss dinner so i stopped at mcdonald's and got one grilled chicken snack wrap - no sauce...that took restraint - i was starving at the time...and i threw out some of the wrap...also had a handful of organic blue corn tortilla chips...so i ate some carbs, but still stayed under 1500 calories for the day...

i think the salt will cause some water retention - i'm gonna go have a big glass of water right now...hope y'all are having a great night!

I'm here Tony...

I'm somewhat back in the swing of things eating wise--I've been eating well the last couple days (not too much and very low carb) and I feel like my appetite is back in check and the lbs are coming off, so that's a relief...

Tony, you must be thrilled to be seeing the new low numbers...

I really think everyone's support and advice is "right on" on this board. It means alot to me to have a place to come to work out my challenges, dissappointments, and successes. I don't think that people can truly understand what kind of problem it it is to struggle with your weight the way we do... it is amazing we have been able to stick with things so long and keep our head in the game.

If you all could see what my husband eats you would very much understand that weight problems like ours are related to metabolism and not "overeating." My husband is very fit and thin and doesn't exercise more than I do--he does eat alot more carbs and food (and beer) in general than I do though...he is amazed by my willpower and says "I could never eat the way you do" but I'm the one that is 20-30lbs overweight. He can polish off a box of girl scouts cookies in one night and have a giant bowl of cereal with sugar on it before bedtime.

My weight problem just is what it is and I have to fight against it all the time...it's nice to have you guys to help with the struggle and understand what we go through.

Thank you!

hi jenny!...thanks for those words - i couldn't agree more...

we all know the shame that comes with folks looking at us thinking we are undisciplined people who must go home at night and eat gallons of ice cream and cakes to become overweight...we know better...and despite the fact that we are fighting our own metabolisms, and despite how difficult that is, here we are, eating in ways most americans would consider impossible...

i haven't been around other weight-loss sites, or even around this one much, but i LOVE the environment here and try to foster it: that we are strong folks, are human, and can do this without judgment, harshness, rigidity, etc...

i love you guys!...

jen, i'm so happy you are feeling stronger, and that you are here!

WOE: LC my way, low dairy
Happy Thursday!

I am pleased to announce that I have entered a NEW DECADE! SO I will be real careful as tomorrow is workplace Biggest Loser weigh-in.

I am in a state of being stunned (and as Clanger would say, the U.K. expression is "well chuffed") that I am at 208. I am having a "I can't believe I am doing this, but I am doing this" moment.

B: 1 hg egg, 1/C spinach, 1/4 avocado
L: salad from home/oil & balsamic w/tuna salad on top
D: hmmm...maybe the baked haddock & grilled veg at Carriage Town

Congrats on your loss Tony and yours & other's commitment & encouragement on this thread have really provided me some backbone in my journey!!!!

Nancy

nancy, that is UNBELIEVABLY awesome!!!!!...you've lost 46 lbs. in 8 months - you should be having an "i can't believe i am doing this" moment - in fact, it should be more than a MOMENT!...we all know how hard this is, so we can appreciate the effort you've put forth to accomplish what you have...i'm proud of you!

well, either my scale is totally on the fritz or i am down another pound today - weighed in at 202 - i can't believe it either...tomorrow is official weigh in, but i have hit 4 new lows in the last week - that has not happened since the first month of blitz I, when every loss was a new low...lol...

i started march at 210, same place i started january...i am proud of myself for turning the disappointment into resolve rather than discouragement - i attacked my biggest weakness - nighttime grazing - by imposing the curfew, which was very hard for me to accept psychologically...but it jump started my losses...

before i took my bp meds today, i took my bp and it was 128/75 and my pulse was 62...a year ago, it wasn't close to that even after my meds...i may be able to get the doc to slightly lower my dosage when i go to see her in two weeks...that was my goal when i started this journey...

i feel so much healthier, calmer, and better about myself...accepting that i love food and love to eat, but will have to think about everything i put in my mouth for the rest of my life, isn't as daunting or depressing as it was last year...i'm okay with it...

you guys have taught me so much - and helped me SO MUCH, i can't even express my gratitude adequately...THANK YOU for not giving up on me when i was faltering (which seemed to be all the time)...i have a long way to go, but with you guys on my side, i am so confident i will get there... :-)

what a difference one good week can make!
