Tony, steak tips sound so good!!!

How's everyone doing?? I'm hanging in there, still trying to kick this bug....but I feel better today than yesterday. Hopefully tomorrow's even better and I have a little bit more of an appetite......although this is making it very easy to stay at or under 1000 calories!

Marilee I'm sorry you're sick as well....I hope you feel better soon!

Nancy, I love your new puppy...what a cutie pie!!!

Jenny, I'm sorry you're struggling...I know just how you feel I've been there, done that!!! Tony has some very good advice....sometimes we do just need to give our bodies a break. We're all here for you!!

FF, yes please keep us posted on your lab results!!!!

happy saturday, my fellow losers!...lol...

thankfully, my days are going pretty easily right now...i am used to a few small 50-100 calories snack-meals, and then can have a fairly abundant low-carb dinner...the curfew has eliminated my nemesis: late-night grazing - so, for the moment, i have again found a strategy for losing, albeit slowly...

i have had to reinvent my plan many times in the past year to get off various plateaus - it is certainly challenging - and when i find one that works, i try to ride it until i either plateau or need a break from it...we'll see how long this one lasts...

now that i know it seems to result in a one pound per week loss rate, i'm gonna just accept that, rather than set a 2-pound per week goal and be disappointed...this is another thing i've learned in the past year: set realistic, conservative goals and you'll feel happier and more positive...anything i lose beyond the 1 pound will feel like christmas!...

looking forward to a good day today... :-)

nancy, if you see this, let me know the range of times you might be at the village tonight...hope i get to meet you - the kids are still up in the air about juston mckinney...

We usually go there every second or third week, no problem-o! Would love to introduce you to their fab salads with the grilled chicken toppers (or steak tips or shrimp!!) Ask bartender where Nancy and Roger (the Brit) area...................

Anyway, off to a busy day with gal-pals! Have a good one everyone!

nancy, thanks for the info...please don't wait for me for dinner, but if i can, i'm gonna stop by to say hello... :-)

lol, lizzie...i get salted all too often and it sucks, doesn't it?...hang in there...

well, i'm not sure what to make of this, and i'm not gonna make too much of it, but the scale read 204 this morning, which is 2 lbs. below yesterday and 2 lbs. below any reading i've gotten in 20 years...

i'm sure it will go up again, but this gives me a tiny, outside chance of reaching 1derland by april 7th...

so far today:
b: green beas with a sprinkle of parmesan cheese
l: none
s: 3 almonds
d: ???

for some reason, my appetite is somewhat suppressed right now and i am gonna take advantage of it, cuz it ain't gonna last!...and i feel really good, too, so go figure! :-)

had a few ravioli in meat sauce tonight...more carbs than normal but didn't eat too much, as my daughter's car trouble kept me busy until i was saved by the clock again! :-)

hey guys, hope everyone is having a great weekend...i'm hanging in there... :-)

scale held at 204 this morning - it's digital and is acting a bit weird, so i'm afraid it might be off...now THAT would be a kick in the pants!...lol...

hoping to have a strong week - i need it to keep this little loss spurt going...i want to stretch it out as long as possible, cuz i know it will be followed by a plateau...

my lack of hunger during the day has been a blessing, and when i do start feeling unjustifiably hungry at night after a good meal, i have the curfew to limit the damage...i'd say i wish i imposed this curfew months ago, but to be honest, i wasn't ready for it then, and it may have done more harm than good if i had tried...

we have to be ready for whatever changes we make - at least that is ABSOLUTELY true for me... :-)

hope everyone is feeling strong this beautiful sunday morning!...check in when you have time...

Hi everyone.....still have the crud but feel a little bit better. I have to go to work tomorrow so I'm hoping for a good night's sleep - Nyquil will help with that!

I got on the scale this morning and I'm 7 pounds heavier!!!! All I've had is chicken noodle soup and crackers so I'm sure it's mostly salt...but it is a horrible number non the less.

Well, I'm really tired so I'm going to sign off.

Sweet dreams everyone.

marilee, happy to hear you are feeling better...i bet you're gonna drop 10 lbs. once you lose the fluid associated with the virus you've had...you just can't gain weight eating chicken soup... :-)

ate very little today, but a lot tonight - i was hungry!...ran up against the curfew, so the damage was limited...could've been a LOT worse!

204!!! Tony, that is great...

kicking and screaming our way to goal. try unsalted nuts, or better yet, get them with the shell on, and get a nutcracker (not the ballet),and do it yourself. more sweat equity that way. No Treadmill for the troll. someone came and carted away all the junk in her basement. I was right about the thyroid, though. she upped the prescription 50 %. I was very happy about the lab results. glucose was 109 as opposed to 268 exactly a year ago. similar improvements in blood lipids. my hdl went from 40 to 43. my ldl was 146. that does not concern me, as i am sure the good ldl outnumbered the bad ldl. my tryglicerides were 128 as opposed to last year's 273. she would not send out for the vap test which quantifies the ldl. maybe the next time. there is ,of course, room for improvement. i intend, once the temp. hits 70, to walk barefoot at the beach, on days that i am not at work. (no stopping at Nathans, at least not for a while.) I must confess, i did not take the dissappointment about the treadmill in a mature manner. But, it was a very limited spree, and i wound up throwing out the other 1/2 of what i did not eat. I no longer have the capacity to eat the volume of food that i did in the past. Some things i am gonna change, is getting in as much plain H2O as possible, I have been falling down in that area as of late. I am also gonna cut down the diet soda drastically. I notice that i have increased that of late. I am gonna stay outside after dinner, and do SOME walking with the shoes on, and say ouch a lot, when it is nit raining or snowing. What else can i do? sitting in the house, or lying down (even with the curfew)is not accomplishing anything. Also, I am eliminating (for a while)serious sources of sodium, such as bacon and sausage. That is enough changes for the while. still having my 1 joe du jour, and my 1 diet choc. soda. We shall see what the changes will be in a month's time. FF

Wow, ff, great news on your labs.

Marilee, you will drop that dreaded water retention weight. Glad you are feeling better.

Tony, come on man, you can get to onderland.

I weighed this morning and was 203.5, EGAD. Here we go again.

Happy Monday all,

FF: fab news on your lab results, WOW, these are huge improvements!!! The more you keep at it, and start walking, your LDL should lower down nicely...

Marilee, there's probably a lot of salt between the crackers and the soup. If you cook, you can get low sodium/low fat chicken broth and put stuff in that. Tastes OK (but not as good as the real stuff)...

DRATTED SODIUM, arghhhh, it's got me up 1.5 today!! Grr! I know what stuff I ate that caused it and today is a NEW GOSHDARN DAY so bring on the water!!

No prob Tony, I'll let you know next time we head to the Village!
Have a good day everyone!!

ff, that is TREMENDOUS news on the lab results - those are the numbers of TWO DIFFERENT people, my brother!...you have added years to your life!...i am soooo proud of you...

my numbers were similarly improved when i went to the doc last july...the room for improvement then was slight, so i'm worried my results will be disappointing when i go back in 2 weeks, even though i am 18 lbs. lighter now than i was then...

salt is such a problem for me...i hate it, except when i'm eating it!...

ff, i applaud all your changes - they will make a difference in the long haul... :-) moving around more, within the limitations of your feet, HAS TO help...

by the way, are gonna set up blitz V, or do you want me to do that?...i can't believe we are closing out a year so soon!

vicki, it's okay...you'll buckle down when you are ready to buckle down...so much of this requires us to be ready and not to feel like we are being forced to do it...as i suggested earlier, maybe rather than trying to lose, you could just set a range you have to stay within so you don't gain too much...more of a defensive strategy :-)

nancy, i'll make it one of these times...where do you shop?...i'm in the hannaford's in east hampstead about 5 days a week... :-)

i'll be drinking water with all of you today!

i find that with using spices in your cooking...

u will not miss the salt. 1 thing that i used to binge(but no longer do) with, were Bachman's sourdough pretzels dipped in mustard-the whole box. i do not love them any less, but i am scared of the sodium even more than the carbs. The ones w/o the surface salt do not tempt me. I DID have a bag of Utz "no salt" potato chips yesterday. I did not finish them. I threw out more than 1/2 container of sugar free ice cream. I threw out 2 garlic bagels (oh dear)and almost 1/2 lb of prepared cole slaw. I did keep the pastrami(not the expensive kosher salami). I may throw that out too, cuz of the sodium. I guess my eyes were bigger than my stomach. FF

my faves are the snyder sourdough hard pretzels in the box...omg!, they are sooo good...love 'em broken up in a bowl of new england clam chowder...when i allow myself the rare pretzel, i scrape off as much of the salt as possible...reduces it by 75% or so...

btw, tony...u may initiate Blitz V. we would be honored.

doing a close to zero carb today thru thurs a.m. perhaps i will be able to undo some of this past weekend's damage. For example, i am having a can of tuna with mayo, but NO lc bread. Tonights pork chops (if they are not past their prime)will have no veg accompaniment, just a tsp of Victoria marinara sauce on each and 1/2 slice melted mozzarella on each. If it stops raining by the time i get home, then i will go for a walk. If it hurts, then too freakin' bad for me. (u know 'freakin' is not what what i really wanted to say). I will time it so that i finish dinner just prior to curfew time. In general, we should give ourselves a generous pat on the back. We are all trying hard to get through our challenges, exorcise our demons etc. FF

i agree, ff - we do all deserve a giant pat on the back...i've said it a million times: THIS IS DIFFICULT...the fact that we are all here and trying to improve our health and our lives is laudable, for sure...this isn't about being "perfect", it's about making progress...

i might add, your menu sounds very good!

so far today:
b: small piece of baked chicken
l: banana and 3 almonds
s: ?
d: tuna salad, i think

btw, i'd be happy to initiate blitz V, my intrepid leader... :-)

FF--I'm so sorry about the treadmill. I wish you could find a place to swim--it's so much better for your joints and makes you actually feel good when your're doing it. I know living in the city everything is so expensive though...

As far as weightloss, let me share with you that I was a three sport varsity athlete (soccer, basketball, track) in high school (and on swim team and AAU basketball in the summertime) and I still struggled with my weight (and actually was overweight!) This was exercising for 2-2.5 hours almost everyday. So, it is what you are eating that will make almost all the difference in weightloss.

I love exercise for the way I feel, the energy it gives me, and being able to do alot, being strong and experience alot in life (snorkling, body surfing, hiking, crosscountry skiing, picking cherries etc.) but I don't believe it really helps me with weightloss...everybody is different though.

everyone's experience IS different.

while i am walking, i am out of the house & NOT EATING. That is what it is all about. If the rain stops, by the time i get home, i will go out for a short walk. If my foot hurts, it will have to hurt. FF

hi jenny, great to see you...thanks for sharing that...i agree it is more about what you eat than the exercise...like you, i was a high school and college athlete...unfortunately, because of my hip, my exercise this year has been limited to ab work and upper body work, so the 40 lbs. i've lost was lost almost entirely done by changing my eating habits...

from what i've learned, exercise can help us in three significant ways: 1) it builds lean muscle mass which revs up our metabolism and results in our bodies burning more calories when at rest, 2) the muscle mass makes the shape of our bodies appear more fit and attractive, even when we are overweight, and 3) the extra calories we do burn, allow us to eat a bit more while maintaining, than we would be able to without exercise...

i think the tricky part of exercise is that it causes us to be much more hungry than when we are sedentary, and we often hit the table "starving" and i know for me, i used to eat more than i needed to...so, when we increase our exercise, i think we need to be vigilant about dealing with the hunger it creates...

all in all, i think it is a positive thing though...best of luck with the walking, ff...

i'm having a "hungry" day today...gonna have to manage that tonight - i've felt this many times, and do not want it to lead to me regaining what i've lost the past couple of weeks...the scale was back up to 206 this morning, which i am assuming is fluid, but i need to have a very clean few days here, or i'm at risk...

i am feeling strong enough to do this, though!

Hey kids,

Ah Exercise...I'll go with Door # 2) the muscle mass makes the shape of our bodies appear more fit and attractive, even when we are overweight.

I really like the "well being" feeling and I feel more MENTALLY FIT when I put some effort in to exercise. And it doesn't amp up my appetite, go figure.

My new avi was taken at Searles Castle in Windham.. I tried the 3/4 view suck-it-in-and-look-slim pose!! We went to a book launch on Saturday and did a lot of goofball glam shots on the property.

Got a spaghetti squash baking in the oven, I think chicken curry will go over it tonight. Yesterday I peeled a daikon radish, shredded it. Sauteed it in the skillet with some chopped onion, butter and some bacon grease - oh baby, it was like hash browns, and really yummy. No radish-y taste, leaned more towards a subtle sauteed cabbage.

Tony, I used to DAILY stop at Hannaford's but now there is Market Basket where I work, and also new one in Epping. I think they are less $$$ than H.
I still stop at the H in Hampstead from time to time. Seems I shop more frequently to replenish vegetables.

Later all!

Hi everyone, cloudy rainy day in phoenix today.....yuck!

How was everyone's weekend?

Nancy, love the pic!

Well I had a little too much wine last night. My limit is usually 2 glasses on the rare occasion any more that I do drink it...but it was so good that I went ahead and had the 3rd one....and they were good sized glasses too!!
As if that wasn't bad enough I have had a VERY CARBY day today.....it seems to help compensate the excess alcohol. It's funny, I don't ever drink enough to get hungover anymore (older & wiser) but if I do have the one extra glass it seems to mess up my stomach and give me wicked indigestion the next day and only carbs seem to help settle all of that. Lame excuse I know....but some day I'll learn!!

Oh well, I'm going to chalk it all up to this is just another lesson learned on my journey....and it is a journey....not just a destination! Besides, we'll see how this does in the "Shake things up / keep your body guessing" category.

Oh well dinner will be zero carb and tomorrow will be clean eating all the way!

Marilee, how are you feeling??

Vicki, you'll be back on track in no time...you look fabulous and I know....I just saw you recently!!

FF, I'm sorry about your treadmill...I love your determination though, you're very inspiring!!

Tony, you're doing so great....you're gonna be hitting Onederland berfore you know it!

Jenny, thanks for sharing your experience. I have in the past practically lived at the gym working out and it never seemed to make a darn bit of difference in my weightloss....for me it appears to be all about what I eat. It's nice to know that I'm not the only one!!

Hi, all! The salsa I was referring to was Green Mountain Gringo Salsa. I liked the medium, which actually seemed very mild to me, but had excellent flavor and ingredients. Nothing artificial. About as clean a salsa as I've found.

FF, it's funny you mentioned wearing Mardi Gras beans for St. Pat's. Our natural foods grocer was selling them that week in the bakery section, amidst all the green cookies and cakes, presumably for just that purpose. (Torturously enough, the bulk nuts where I often shop is sandwiched between their gigantic candy section and their bakery. The fish counter is on the other side of the bakery and the butcher's counter past that. I'm tellin' ya -- a landmine-strewn corner.)

hey shadows, thanks for the answer to the salsa question - i almost forgot i asked it...lol...

nancy, you look hot at 3/4s and all sucked in... ;-) you also look familiar - i probably crashed my cart into you at hannaford - did i mention i'm a terrible shopping cart driver?

tammy, thanks for the encouragement - 1derland seems so close, yet so far...sounds like you enjoyed the wine and the carbs...it's nice to remember what they taste like once in a while!...it's part of the journey and we all need to do it sometimes...

the pork chops WERE past their prime.

i sent them to join the jicama. I ordered chinese ribs..ATKINS-IZED of course. No side veggie. I finished rib #10 at 8:58 pm, watching some classic episodes of L & O: Criminal Intent. Yesterday was as close to zero carb as was possible. I consumed 20 points less than my daily WW total. However, I did not make it outside after work. Maybe this evening. Foodwise, today will be a carbon copy of yesterday. No Frankenfoods, just 1 20 oz bottle of FAYGO choc soda. FAYGO makes diet only. Also, 1 cup of black coffee, no artificial sweetener. I never use sweetener of any kind. I actually feel more serene today. I believe it is the satisfaction that i am able to prevent an indulgence(planned or not)from turning into a catastrophe. The BEST I can expect on Thurs weigh-in is to stay the same. But it is only 1 week. And i do take responsibility for my actions. FF
