ff, i am so sorry to hear about your knee - that's too bad, bro...just ice it and rest it and see how it responds...thinking good thoughts for ya, man...

and you're right, ff...it is all about perspective, and the april date is completely arbitrary, and thanks in such a large part to you, these blitzes, and the other great folks here, i am sooo much better off than i was a year ago...

it's funny - we talk about taking it one day at a time, and that is so true, because if someone had mapped out all these ups and downs and sacrifices and failures and stalls, etc. for me a year ago, i might have been disappointed with how long and slow a process this is...that is why i never succeeded before...it is so difficult and takes such a long view to see the benefits...but now that i am near the end of this first year, my only regret is that i didn't do this 10 years ago!...

all of us are really doing great - just being here and trying, with all our human frailties should earn each of us a pat on the back!

good day so far:
b: hb egg
l: cheese stick
s: few pistachios
d: grilled chicken and steak tips?

Just checking in--

The scale isn't moving down but I have been eating more than I need too, all low carb but I don't lose unless I'm a little hungry all the time--I need to get refocused and reading your guys posts is helping.

I'm up about 4bs from my low before leaving for Hawaii--I should be able to take those off in two weeks if I put them on in two weeks...

I think I should have a day or two of just eating meat/fat this really curbs my appetite and gets me out of the "eating mode." The fat fast idea is intriguing to me too, it's pretty hard to do that type of thing for me though because I cook for everyone in my family.

Tonight I have planned
salmon
brocolli with parmesean cheese sauce
ceaser salad

We sure can eat well with low carb!

What's with knees lately? Crazy!

Good news! I just spoke with Tammy and Vicki and I are going to meet her for lunch on Sunday at The Black Angus. Do you guys have those where you are? They are a good steak house and they are very open to substituting the rice or potato for double veggies. We will be able to stay on plan without any problem and get a nice, juicy steak toboot!

Going to sign off for the day. Pleasant dreams!

lookin' forward to the pics, girls ;-)

had a good night - ate a little more than usual but just grilled chicken and broccoli, so shouldn't have done too much damage...9 p.m. rolled around before i knew it and saved me again...

tonight is my birthday dinner - not sure where i will choose to go - tough call...the kids want me to cheat a little, but to be honest, eating is less important to me than it used to be - which i guess is a good sign...when i think about how hard it's been to get back to 207, i HATE the idea of splurging (even being liberal with on-plan food) and getting stuck at 210 again...can't do it...

so, i'll try to find something i enjoy and take it very moderately...

ff, how's the knee?...hope you're resting and icing...

how's everyone else?...happy saturday!!!

Happy Birthday Tony,

I know exactly how you feel--I didn't want to go out for our Anniversary this year for the same reason. You can celebrate your birthday other ways than food though--I haven't had cake on my birthday for years! But I sometimes make a low carb treat...

Anyway it turns out have a great day and do something special for yourself, you deserve it!

Morning all!

Tony you know you've been so great about your 9 pm curfew that I've adopted it!!!! Seriously....I started looking at the clock at 9 pm and thinking...hmm at 9 pm Tony stopped eating for the day....I'll betcha I could do that too....so I started doing the same thing without even thinking about it!! I'm not much of a late night grazer anyway, but I WOULD have that 2nd or 3rd glass of wine so now I'm saving myself from those extra empty wine calories.

The fat fast was FABULOUS and I'm calling it a huge success, I did eat steak twice yesterday so I did not meet the guidelines of the fast 3 days in a row, I was VLC yesterday and this morning I weighed in at 220.....that 5 pounds down since Wednesday!!!!! (well technically 4.8, but I believe in rounding up )

I enjoyed the fat fast so much I'm seriously thinking about modifying it into a JUDDD type program that I've seen so many others have great success with. My down days would be my fat fast days.....I'm curious to see how that would work for me. It certainly would keep things from getting too boring!

How's everyone else doing on this lovely Saturday morning?

thanks guys!...i'm at work, but we're gonna hit the movies this afternoon - gonna see the adjustment bureau - looks interesting... :-) then dinner somewhere...

jenny, we're twins, so it doesn't surprise me that you know EXACTLY how i feel today :-)

tammy, I AM SO PROUD OF YOU!!!...you really rocked that fat fast - 5 lbs. since wednesday???...that is awesome...

hope the curfew helps those of you who try it...it's definitely helping me, but as i said, i am a habitual night grazer...it just draws a line for me that i don't cross...i really don't like eating much during the day, so although i have several small snack-like meals between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m., i don't think i ever have more than a few hundred calories...that leaves me open to eat about 1500 calories between 6 and 9 p.m., which is quite a few for just a few hours...that should result in a 1lb. per week loss rate...but now, in trying to lose 2 lbs. a week until april 7th, i have to restrict myself to about 1000-1200 calories in that 6-9 window...anyway, that's the strategy i'm using right now...

i'll check in a bit later...have a great day, everyone!!!

Happy birthday, Tony

Well, finished the housework and am now waiting for the Super Shuttle to drop Vicki off. I would have picked her up myself, but it's a big terminal and I didn't want to do any more damage to my knee so we could do everything we have planned today for the next several days.

Had a great tax visit! Both Uncle Sam and the State of AZ are being good to me. All in savings to save up for the surgery.

Weighed this morning and was up again - as usual. I figure it's water weight. Getting kind of tired f this but next weekend I'll be back to losing so I'm happy about that.

Good job, Tammy on the weight loss. You'll have to explain it to us in person.

Well, good night! I doubt if we check in again today.

Hi all from sunny and warm AZ. Whoop, whoop. Marilee had some roast chicken and broccoli all ready when I arrived. We went shopping this morning and bought healthy stuff. I am going to OD on grapefruit while here since she has a tree in her yard. I am looking forward to meeting Tammy today too. Pics will be posted later. I have met all 4 cats although one of them, Depot, is a bit skiddish.

Tony, I hope you enjoyed your day yesterday.

Good morning all,

Vicki, I can't wait to meet you and Marilee....and I an SOOOO hungry for steak!

Tony how was your birthday??

Ok y'all are probably gonna hate me for mentioning this AGAIN....but I think that crazy fat fast must have kicked my metabolism into high gear...I'm down another pound this morning!!!! I weighed in at 219....my goal for this week was 222

 Sorry, I just can't help it...I started off so strong then seemed to get stuck in super slow mode then BAM....off like a rocket again.

How's everyone else doing? Where is everyone?

vicki!...so happy you are in AZ and in great hands of two of the nicest women on the planet (not including you, of course!)...enjoy your trip and the weather...can't wait to see the photos...

marilee, congrats on the tax victory - it's always scary dealing with taxes, isn't it?...and don't get discouraged by the scale...you've lost a LOT of weight, and you'll get back on the losing trail in the next phase...enjoy the steak!...

tammy, my kids did spoil me yesterday! :-) i agree 100% about the fat fast - you really rocked it!...do you have a link you can post to that plan?...sounds like something worth trying...thanks!

thanks for all the birthday wishes, guys - i had a great day...my kids took me to the olive garden for dinner - it was right next to the movie theatre and my wife is hobbling around on crutches, so i wanted to select the place that would be easiest on her...

avoided the bread sticks - had the salad and chicken marsala which was good, but pretty salty...the scale said 209 this morning, and most of that has to be fluid since my calorie intake has been very reasonable...i was 207 yesterday - it amazes me how quickly i can gain water-weight...

it is what it is, and i'm not gonna let it deter me at all...i've got a plan, and as ff says, i'm gonna get there...not giving up on the april 7th deadline, but if it takes longer, so be it...i feel great!...

hope everyone is having an awesome sunday - ff, i'm thinking about you and your knee, brother...

The steak was divine and we had grilled artichokes that were AWESOME. The girls took a pic of the 3 of us that I'm sure they'll post.

Tony, I had a link for you in the above message...the administrators took it out and sent me a warning that this was a no-no.

So here's the deal, go to carbsmart dotcom and in the search box at the top type in fatfast, and it should get you to the page I was trying to link for you. Sorry my above message reads so strangely at the end, it's because they cut out the info I was trying to send.

I hope that helps and that I didn't violate policies again.

tammy, your meeting/meal sounds wonderful - it doesn't surprise me that you guys felt like old friends...can't wait to see the photos...

and thanks for the forbidden info - i don't understand the censorship - seems like half the things we mention in here get automatic hyperlinks....weird...i did look it up and now i get it :-)

i wonder what would happen if i just sprinkled in a fat fast day here or there or once a week?...hmmmm...

had a good day today - hb egg for breakfast, skipped lunch, and ribs and chicken for dinner, and hit the 9 p.m. wall before i did too much damage...

how did everyone else do this weekend?...ff, where are you, bud?

Tony I'm right with you about sprinkling the fat fast days in here and there...in fact I think that's what I'm going to do this week....like a modified Up Day/Down Day plan, my Down days will be my ff days and my Up days will be regular LC....I'm curious to see how it goes!

Where is everyone today? It's mighty quiet in here!!!

happy monday morning everyone!...we survived another weekend, and that's an accomplishment!... :-)

my birthday weekend didn't set me back too much, but honestly, i ate more than i normally would...this journey is like a climb up a mountain, and we work hard for each 100 ft. ascent, and every once in a while we just climb back down 50-100 ft knowing we are going to have to do the hard work to climb back up that distance again...i think it is just like that...when we figure out why we climb back down, we will have solved the riddle...it's hard to believe it is just so enjoyable to climb back down, that we can't help ourselves, but maybe that's it...maybe we are just wired to enjoy descents more than most people...hmmm...

but we are all climbing almost every day, while most of our friends stroll along on relatively flat ground, and for that, i think we deserve some credit...

sorry, i am feeling philosophical this morning!... :-)

i'm ready to hit that climb hard again today...how's everyone else doing?

Yes, we all had a good time at lunch. Tammy was right, it was like we had been friends for a long time. We didn't stop talking . . . chatter . . . chatter

Going to fiddle fart around this afternoon. Marilee says HI and will post later.

Well,
The weight I gained in Hawaii isn't falling off of me, but I could be stricter than I'm being so I guess I shouldn't complain. I like the idea of trying a fat fast day too, I need to get some Macadamia nuts...

Tony, I think we will always struggle/be dealing with our weight even after we get it all off, because I imagine I will be constantly gaining and losing the same 3-5lbs at that point in my life they will just be lower numbers--so we are really just practicing for that time in our life by having to relose the same lbs over and over again...it does feel like one of Dante's levels of hell sometimes though!

I feel like if I don't think about it and monitor everything I'm putting in my mouth a week later I will have gained 7-10lbs and I'm not talking about Binge eating, just eating a more normal American diet. I just need to accept that I'm really sensitive to carbs and really would be better off not eating many of them, alot of people have a lot worse fate in life and at least I've figured out what my problem is--now I just need to make the decisions and do the work to solve it. I really wish I would learn not to slip up though (like I did on vacation) and I'm not sure why it happens either as I do feel quite satisfied with the type of food and variety I can eat with low carb in general.

It's when I get in groups of people and everyone is eating all the "forbidden" things and I think "why can't I eat that too, it won't kill me..." but I really am starting to feel that it's just not worth it. It would be so much easier if I did have a true allergy and would get sick or break out in a rash from eating that stuff.

Guess as your sister/twin I'm feeling philisophical today too, Tony!

lol, jenny - i was nodding in agreement with your entire post...that is "it" EXACTLY for me too...i would definitely gain 7-10 lbs. in a week, just eating normally without restrictions - has the american diet evolved into such an unhealthy thing that we have to carve something healthier out of it just so we don't balloon?...maybe we do...

my girls are on spring break, so i took the day off to spend with them at home...haven't felt hungry all day, so i'm taking advantage of it by fasting - have had nothing but water all day...luckily the scale said 208 today - down 1 from yesterday but still 3 lbs over my goal for friday, so i need to work hard at this for the next few days...

if i get famished tonight, i'll eat something light - maybe a salad...i ate an abundance of calories this weekend, so cutting way back today might trip up my body a bit, which will be good!...

i'm starting to love this curfew - almost like the buzzer at the end of a game - and i'm holding onto a slim lead every night, waiting for the buzzer to sound!...lol...

hope everyone's having a great day!

Hey kids!

Happy Birthday Tony! Sounds like you had a most pleasant day! How was the Adjustment Bureau? I find that any restaurant trip is getting to be a 2 lb gain the next morning. Must be the sodium...........

Tammy, did you do your fat fast for 3 days? or 5 days? I googled the site, maybe I'll give it a shot next week. I really want to bust down to the next decade this month. Grilled artichokes, wowee! The get-together must have been a blast!

I had a medical procedure yesterday which required me to practically starve on Sunday all day long...so afterward I had a blueberry muffin and then some leftover calzone once I got home. A momentary lapse of luxury, but hey, no gain on the scale so we're even! I did 45 min on treadmill last night and another 10 before work this morning, will walk at lunchtime, and will hit the gym tonight.

Have a good day everyone!
Nancy

hey nancy, thanks for the birthday wishes...i liked the movie quite a bit...probably wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea, but i really liked the concept...hope you are recovered from the procedure and feeling strong... :-)

I'm here the scale is down one more pound--been doing quite a bit of low carb cooking and went swimming last night. Still eating too much food but all low carb, but for some reason I feel hungry. Oh well, I'm down that pound so I must be doing something right!

Making chicken piccatta (capers, garlic, lemon) for dinner tonight it smells so
good (it's in the oven)

Trying to drink alot of water too today as that always helps me with weightloss. I've done more reading on this and our liver is taxed with the metabolic process of losing weight, which creates toxins, etc. So that is another another reason to drink your water as it helps our body with these processes.

Also taking the supplement Milk Thistle will aid your liver function which supposedly can help with weightloss, but is just good for you in general. It is a very inexpensive supplement you can find in the vitamin section of any store.

hey jenny, thanks for the info and congratulations on the pound...every one is a victory, isn't it?...

and thanks for reminding me of the importance of water - i need to stay on top of that...i remember reading that weight loss results in toxins being released in our bodies - i think it's because they are stored in our fat, right?...anyway, it makes sense to drink more water to help flush them out...

hmmm...gonna have to check out the milk thistle - that's one i had not heard of...btw, the chicken piccatta sounds great... :-)

marilee and vicki must be out playing in the sunshine!

where the heck is ff? - i'm a bit worried about him and his knee...

Hi everyone! Got back from Sedona about an hour ago. We left at 8 this morning, arrived around 10 and then left around 3:30. We had a very good time. Those red rocks are amazing and the shopping is great! Of course, we each had to buy some things so we did our bit to help the economy!

I've been doing well on plan - this morning I weighed myself and the scale was back to to my 2 pound window. I had a cheese omelet and bacon for breakfast, knowing I would probably be adding my allowed carb at lunch. For lunch I had a ruben sandwich and a bag of chips I allowed myself to do it so I didn't feel guilty. Too bad it wasn't very good - mediocre. We'll see what the scale says over the next two days, but all in all I was proud of myself.

Tonight I'm having cioppino that I got from Trader Joe's - I love it. I'm not sure what Vicki is having - we are tired so we are doing our own thing tonight.

Well, I'm bushed. I'll talk more later. Vicki leaves tomorrow morning and I'm taking the day off

good to see you guys!...

tammy, congrats on the continued losses - you're doing so well, i am proud of you!...if you have a fatfast day, let us know the results :-) hope you feel better today...

marilee, you certainly earned the sandwich and chips...when you really want something, i don't think there should be any guilt in having it...we're not monks, now are we?...lol...

i lost ff's phone number or i'd check in on him...he's never gone this long and since he has a computer at home, i am a little worried...

i fell asleep at 8:15 on the couch - before i had finished dinner - and i woke up at 9:15 after my curfew, so i went back to sleep...lol...this curfew sure is reducing my caloric intake...i'd probably be 215 without it!

looking forward to another good day...happy wednesday guys!...

vicki, have a safe trip home... :-)

so glad to be back. Tony8-HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY.

sorry, i missed it. Well, i finally made it to the Dr. yesterday. Efforts to revive me were futile. Now I can GHOST-write my autobiography. Perhaps i can get someone to GHOST-read it as well. My knee recovered just in time for me to be too late for a bus ticket to ATLANTIC CITY. Dr. Reddy thinks it may be a cyst. I am taking an x-ray this a.m. I had a Caesar salad yesterday to observe the Ides of March. It was a McD grilled Chicken Caesar. The chicken refers to the small minded ungrateful cowards who slew him. I took it to go. At home, i sprinkled it with some sliced almonds, and 2 T of Ken's Caesar dressing (1 gr) I am doing well in maintaining discipline. Still doing the 9 pm curfew. By the Twins, I sure wish that discipline would show itself on the scale. On the Dr's new digital scale i was 2 lbs higher than WW on Thursday. I am going back on Sat a.m. to discuss the lab results and the x-ray. So I will have her re-take my blood pressure, which was a tad high (140/90). Just when I am trying to cut down on pharmaceuticals. I will also have another go at the scale. If my lipids have not improved significantly, i will stop the fish oil capsules. It is an expense, i cannot afford if it is doing nothing for me. There is a chance I might get a free treadmill. But, i am not not sure i heard right. But even if Dr Reddy is giving it to me, I still have to arrange transportation. If i cannot get free transportation, the deal is off. I am broke, HEWMONS, broke. Well, i hope everyone is having a great day. FF
