hey jenny!!!...so great to have you back - i missed you...

happy to hear the trip went so well - i'd consider your behavior a VICTORY...the weight will come off quickly, and to stay on plan for most of the trip is pretty amazing...i'm proud of you, girl...can't wait to hear more about your trip - i've been to 49 states and hawaii is the one i have not hit yet...

ff, i'm with ya on the bodies, bro ;-)

ff, vicki and marilee - what the heck is a jicama???...i've never heard of it...

had a good day again today - i'm on a bit of a roll, thank goodness, but i need another 2 lb. loss this week to be at 206 by friday...if i fall short of my goal in any week, i will almost certainly not hit 1derland by april 7th so the pressure is on...actually, it has gotten my competitive juices flowing...lol...

made an excellent pork loin roast tonight and sauteed some broccoli, green beans and a sweet potato in olive oil as a side dish...it was wonderful!...also had some salad with turkey salad on top...yumm-o...i have an hour before curfew, but i am trying to drink LOTS of water...once i make it til 9, i seem to be able to accept waiting til morning for my next morsel...at least, so far :-)

i'll check on y'all a bit later...

Tony, jicama is a tuber but low in carbs. It has the texture of a potato/apple. It has a slightly sweet taste. It can be cooked but I eat it raw. The peel is woody kind of like pineapple rind, well vaguely. Do a google search and you will see what it looks like. I tried using it in a faux apple pie filling recipe but was not impressed. That was the only way I cooked it, but there may be other ways.

I think I may have over corrected. I am feeling quite restrained with the food plan. I can't have whey protein powder of which I have an abundance of and would use to make a shake on occasion as a midday snack. I also am told that stevia is off limits of which I beg to differ. The bottled (saccharine), pink and blue packets ( aspartame<<<<< pure chemicals of which have been known to increase appetite) are allowed. Go figure. There also isn't any flexibility really if after I called in my food already and have decided to eat something else (on plan) instead of what I told the sponsor because I don't feel like that particular thing is off limits too. Well, highly frowned upon.

I am not bad mouthing this organization in any way because it has worked for others. But since I work another 12 step program, that sponsor suggested I put down what I do like (accountability and principles) and the dislikes (rigid plan and questions) and devise a personal plan that I could manage.

So, we will see what happens. If nothing else, the food plan has helped me to get back to basics and eliminate the crap from my body which in turn has greatly reduced the cravings and compulsive eating.

Besides, I want to enjoy my vacation with Gibby and enjoy lunch with Tammy.

thanks for all the info, vicki...i will look it up - sounds interesting...

i'm sure that plan is effective for many people, but it doesn't sound like something i could stick to...in the end, any plan is only effective if we can stay on it...you have gotten to a much better place, so i think you should design a plan that you think will work for the long haul...

at about 8:30 i was hungry - was contemplating what i would eat, when i got distracted with my son's homework...next time i looked at the clock it was 9:10!...so i had a big glass of water and i'm not quite as hungry now...i really ate a very adequate dinner, so i should not need any more nutrition...but without the curfew, this would be a night i might eat an additional 500 calories or more before bed...

if i get too hungry, i'll go to sleep a bit early...it's hard to do this, but it feels so good in the morning when i climb on the scale knowing i'm not gonna gain...that's what is keeping me going right now...lol...

Tony and FF.........you're funny. It's fun to have a couple of guys on on this little adventure though.....you offer such unique perspective.

Vicki that sounds like a mighty strict program with some odd rules. I agree with the idea of sorting out what you d like and forming a plan that makes more sense to you specifically. One thing I have learned is that we are all so different, it only makes sense that we all need a slightly different plan.

Marilee is that your kitty cat? What a sweetie!

Hope everyone's having a great day!!

Tony, the mind is a tricky thing. Imagine distracting it with doing the homework and "forgetting" about the hunger. That is what you call "head hunger". My mind is always playing tricks on me. However, since I haven't been eating between meals, I am feeling physical hunger again. Actually kind of scary though believe it or not.

Hi Tony, I missed you guys too and was anxious to see how you all were doing.

I absolutely love Hawaii--we pretty much go every year for our big family vacation--it's pretty economical too because we share a 3 bedroom condo with my sister's family (husband, daughter) and my parents, I use miles to get a good discount on our plane tickets and we cook most our meals in. We go to the Big Island which has lower pricing (than Maui) in general.

Coming from Seattle the contrast in weather is amazing and the flight is very short (5-6 hours depending on tradewinds) Plus I love swimming in the ocean, snorkeling, etc. Oh and also there is TONs of asian food, which as you know I love--fresh fish, wonderful fresh produce from farmers markets, tropical flowers etc. And because its not a foreign country you don't have to bother with change of currency, language problems or worry about getting sick. I could go on and on but I do recommend it for anyone living on the west coast. I tnink it's a pretty long trek for other people...

My daughter and I swam with a turtle our first day out snorkeling--I swam tons and did most of the cooking, so I planned low carb, healthy food. I just go lazy at the end and my mom bought alot of stuff that I gave into temptation on (popcorn was involved Tony!) , I will spare you the details...I definitely improved on my eating behavior as far as these situations go so I won't get too hard on myself and I didn't do any damage that I can't undo with a little time...

I'm fully committed to getting to a new low this Spring and I wouldn't be in this state of mind if it weren't for you guys so "Thank you!" for being here and letting me "report" back and get back on track!

hey jenny, hawaii sounds like the paradise i am imagining!...i'm hoping to plan a family trip there soon and a 3br condo is exactly the type of accommodations we would need for even my immediate family, so when i get to that point, i may ask you for some more info...

doing so much swimming, you may have gained some muscle mass that may account for some of the weight...i've learned during these blitzes that 6 lbs. is really nothing at all...i know increased muscle is something we don't stress very often, but for those of us who are getting some regular exercise, our body chemistry and fat make-up is changing and for the better, and while we are losing fat weight, we are gaining some muscle weight...so you may actually be better off now than you were when you left and because you have more muscle, and now that you are firmly back on plan, your body will dispose of any fat more efficiently...

uh, oh!...did you just mention POPCORN???... :-)

tammy, i'm happy that ff and i provide some entertainment value in here...as you women know, we men are clueless about most things, so i am happy you tolerate us at all...lol...

i'm with ya, vicki...if i needed any proof that i wasn't REALLY hungry last night, it's now 4:30 a.m. (8 hours later) and i am not in the least bit hungry!...and i avoided hundreds of calories i'd have to compensate for today...

btw, jenny, i don't think i'd be here right now if you hadn't helped me through that rough patch last summer - that was a crossroads for me...so, THANK YOU, and everyone else who lends support in here every day!...

i had no trouble with the 9 pm curfew.

i was sawing wood by 8 pm. of course, i did not touch the jicama, or any other veggie last night. i warmed up my ribs, and ate those. Forced my eyes to stay open for Seinfeld & Jeopardy. Then went into bed for some reading. never finished the page i had started.zzzzzz zzzzz. i suppose by the time i get to the Jicama, it will be moldy and rotten. FF

Hey all,

Back at work today

I was at 215.5 on Monday morning...drank a boatload of water, exercised 90 minutes total...then yesterday I had major dental work done so food was only 2 hb eggs and some LC chicken soup, and yay, this morning I am 212.5. I'll take it! Psyched bigtime for the next decade!

Jenny - NICE TRIP to Hawaii! Wow, sounds soooo wonderful to me and heck, you'll drop the pounds...drink plenty of water and getting back on plan, you'll pare it off! I have a customer in Maui, he often sends cases of chocolate covered macadamia nuts. Next time he does, they are all going out to the cafeteria for the vultures!

Tony - I try to be done eating by 8:30 as hubby prefers a later dinner. He would eat at 9:30 if he could. I wish I could put 3 hours between me and bedtime though. The late night eating only spikes the sugar and there's no way it burns off while you're sleeping...when I do cave, it's been with the 60-calorie sugar-free chocolate pudding cups which are really quite decent.

Good morning!

Busy posters today. Hi Jenny! It sounds like you had a great trip! I lived in Bellingham, WA for 4 years so I understand how nice Hawaii is

Good job, Nancy-you rock

I'm two pounds over the two pound window. I tried eating a candy bar yesterday just to see what happened and SHAZAM!!!! When will I ever learn that sugar and I don't get along. So, lots of water today and clean eating.

Yes, that is one of my kitties - her name is Holly and she is a snuggle bug. Another thread I'm on asked to see pictures and I don't know how to insert them in the post so I have to do it by avitar. Vicki can teach me when she's here - and take some updated pictures for me. I am technologically challenged and really don't care

i LOVED sedona when i was there!...what a beautiful part of the country...have a tall glass of ice water for me girls!...lol...

nancy, congrats on the loss - take it any way you can get it!...i love those 60-calorie pudding cups - i usually give it a shot of whipped cream too...i go through phases where i eat them 3 times a week, but i haven't had one for about a month, but they are in the fridge all the time, along with the 15-calorie jello gelatin..

lizzie, if you get stuck for more than a couple of weeks, don't worry, just tweak something...it often doesn't take much of a change to get things rolling agaain - i get a lot of great ideas from the other folks here...

marilee, was the candy bar good?...around valentine's day, i had a two-day period where i sampled tiny amounts of the candy around the house...i paid for that too, but it was good...haven't had any since :-(

ff, you're anything BUT lazy...you've put a heck of a lot of thought and effort into your woe this past year, bro... :-)

need great days today and tomorrow if i want a shot at 206 by friday...was still at 208 this morning...may do an egg fast day tomorrow...

hi y'all

slimlizzie, is it possible that cutting down on the advantage bars as opposed to eliminating them would work? of course it is a ymmv issue. I am reading many posts on the LCF site, and I see so many people eliminating totally things (low carb or zero carb)which they enjoy. I am wary of total abstention, as then it becomes just another diet and deprivation. I promised myself that this time around, i was really going to treat this woe as joyful not WOEFUL. I do enjoy an ATKINS ADVANTAGE bar from time to time. Especially when the alternative at the time was off-plan eating. Dr. Atkins does not want us eating Frankenfoods (especially his)on a regular basis, but I am sure he is in favore of enjoying them from time to time. J.Finchster, congrats on your progress. I hope u make your 175. I am still aiming at 2-dor-land. 4 lbs away. Maybe by Xmas. FF

Hi everyone, quick sneak in here at lunch time to check in!

So I'm bouncing around those same four pounds....was down another pound then up two.....which I KNOW is part of the scale games we play, but it is wearying!!!

I've decided to do a 3 day fat fast!! I've been contemplating it for a while and I've done a lot of research on it and planned my foods carefully. I think I can do this. Today is day 1 and so far I feel super fabulous. In the research I read they say you can do up to 5 days, but I think I'll start with 3 and see how I feel by Saturday. I'll let you know how it goes!!!

How's everyone else???

The Fat Fast is an Atkins thing. He designed it for people who are metabolically resistant (thank you very much) it's supposed to be a great way to break through that resistance, though they recommend that you DON'T do it for more than 5 days at a time because it's very low in protein....that's why I'm going to try it for just 3 days. Most people that I've read about doing it have great success and lose 8 - 10 pounds...though often a couple of those pounds do come back once resuming the LC diet, you still have an overall net loss and have revved the losing powers up again.....kind of like a turbo shot for your car engine.

Here's the rules: 1000 calories per day, and 85% - 90% of those calories must be from fat....that's actually really tough!!! Here's my menu for today so far:

B: Coffee with 1 pat of butter and 1 T HWC (LOVE buttered coffee)
L: 1 HB Egg, Jello Cream Cheese**
S: 1/2 oz raw macadamia nuts, 1 of Brie Cheese, 1 large Black tea with a pat of butter
Dinner will likely be more Macadamia nuts and cream cheese.

Total count SO FAR Today:
Cal: 630
Fat: 59.73g / 85%
Protein: 17.89g
Carb: 9.48g

I don't know if I could do it the full 5 days cause right now I am REALLY missing the protein...so we'll see how it goes. My energy though is good and I feel really clear headed.

**for jello cream cheese: I dissolve 1 package of SF jello mix (any flavor) in 1/2 cup of boiling water, ad 4T HWC and 1 brick (8 oz) of cream cheese. Mix it well and portion out into 4 small tupperware dishes with lids and put in the fridge. When it sets up it's like cheesecake. Perfect for this WOE!!

I made it through day 1 of the Fat fast and did really well. I think I need to watch the caffeine though while doing this. At one point (about 3:00) I was having a large tea and started feeling like I REALLY needed protein STAT...I munched on some Brie and felt much better though. Other than that I've felt fabulous all day and this evening. I ended up at 1010 calories today and 85% fat. I read that day 1 is the toughest but day 2 and 3 are much easier....we"ll see!

i hope the FAT FAST works for you, Tammy.

I regret I am not capable of such an extreme approach even for a few days, unless they put me in a cage. I am adhering to Tony8's 9pm curfew, which is very do-able. Oh, & Thanks Tony8 for the suggestion. Actually, i have been winning by default these last 2 evenings, as i have been falling asleep early again, even after a black coffee at Dunkin' after work. There is a Dunkin right there in the Shoprite. I like to have a coffee, and watch the HEWMONS, before I begin my sortie into overpriced land. Well, today is weigh-in day. We shall see how the Gods have spoken. FF

it's so funny how my psychology is working...without a curfew, i graze until i go to sleep...then i simply say/decide "i cannot eat after 9 p.m." - a totally arbitrary rule with no real teeth, and i find it totally easy to accept and adhere to, saving me a few hundred calories a day, which should amount to a pound lost every 2 weeks that i was not losing earlier...if someone told me about this a year ago, i would have laughed at them!...

ff, good luck with the weigh-in...mine is tomorrow and i really need a 206 on the scale...i've been consistently at 208 all week with a 209 thrown in one day, so based on this morning's tally, i may need an egg fast day or something light like that...even then, i may not make it...

tammy, congrats on day 1 - can't wait to hear the results after 3 days of that...

As for Eating clean and going to go by the book...

Well I went a little insane yesterday I ate a ton of Gluten free multi grain crackers and butter AND some wonderful DARK CHOCOLATE!!! ( how is that for a tweak Tony)

Today the scale finally moved down 1 pound! yes!! .... now back to the book..

FF: I have only had one advantage bar a day total of maybe 4 in a week..but I have had them in the evening..that may have stalled me..didn't have one last night ( I was so full from the cracker binge) and think I will give them up untill I lose a few more pounds to see what happens..I don't want to give them up completly I love the dark chocolate carmel crunch..peanut butter not so good ..as for deprivation...your right see what happened..insanity

Tammy: Buttered coffee and tea hmmm..may have to try that..

Morning all!

Well, I droped one of the two pounds I was over my window, which is a relief. So I'm opting for another big water day and clean eating to hopefully drop the other one.

A gorgeous day in Phoenix today - 85 degrees is the forecast. Absolutely beautiful!
