hey guys,
just a quick check-in...been tied up with my buddy from nashville...

happy to see everyone is doing well...i hope no one gets discouraged when they don't lose weight for a bit...

i've been eating on plan and healthy...weighed in at 210 yesterday - 4 lbs. over last week - was at 208 the day before, so i'm stalling for the first month of the blitz...

funny how it doesn't bother me at all - i feel like i have a much healthier approach to eating these days...i know i am eating well and healthy and i am not gaining - just not losing and that's okay...

i will eat fewer calories one of these weeks and lose a couple of pounds for good, just as i've lost the last 35 - and stalling does not discourage me in the least anymore, nor does it trigger an eating response...

hope everyone has a great saturday - i will check in later

Went out for chinese with friends last night and scale shot right up. So today eating vlc and downing tons of water. It usually takes a few days. All that msg and sodium gets me everytime but the food is so good there.

artemis don't worry we all have those weeks with no loss especially me. It come off.

Harlan glad you enjoyed your day with your nice friend Captain Morgan I like those kind of friends.

Hi all.

Well I am a little disappointed - no loss again today. Hopefully it will be down tomorrow.

I finally broke down and made a doctors appointment for Tuesday about my knee. I was hoping I could make it until 2/22 when my appointment was set for a weight loss check up, but I just couldn't stand the pain and difficulty in walking anymore.

I hope he doesn't give me "attitude" about my weight. I just don't need that right now.

Time for my "big" 250 calorie dinner

I'll check in later.

Hello Everyone!

I just found your group and you guys are awesome....so encouraging and supportive, may I join?

I used to be pretty active here on LCF a couple of years ago and lost about 20lbs, but then I let life get in the way & gained it all back

I re-started a few weeks ago on Dec. 26, since then I've lost 15 lbs, so I'm off to a good start, and this time I will NOT let myself get derailed again. I've discovered that I have some major gluten issues that make LC a real necessity.

I love your 3 month window for the blitz, what a great way to stay focused and set short term obtainable goals. I would looooove to be reaching 1derland by April 1, but that may be a bit aggressive, so while it's a definite goal I'll be delighted if i'm below 210....because ultimately I WILL reach my goals!

lady!...happy to have you join us...congrats on dropping so much weight so quickly!...

marilee, if you had lost 18 pounds for the whole 3-month blitz, that would have been a great accomplishment - you've done it in 3 weeks...please DO NOT be disappointed...that's an emotion that can derail us...you are doing AMAZING!...

and i know how much it sucks for a doc to express disappointment in your weight - it is one of the things i hate most - but you are on a path to change that forever...use the aversion to her/his reaction as motivation...we're all with ya, girl...

hi misty, chinese food does it to me all the time too, but it's so good, i still gotta have it once in awhile...

my buddy's on a plane back to nashville and i am happy to say i stayed on track even while he was here...

i'm realizing how permanent the changes in my woe feel these days...i am not even tempted to slip back into old patterns...i just eat differently and it took me almost ten months to finally get to that point...

so i started the week at 210 and will set my weekly goal at 209, and will hope for better...i feel pretty confident i will get there...it may take 2-3 weeks to get back to my low of 206, but that's okay...

how's everyone else doing?...we are winding down the last week of the first month of our blitz...time for a status check...how is everyone feeling?...any struggles anyone needs help with?...i think you are all awesome people and i feel so lucky to be able to share this journey with y'all... :-)

lady, it's quiet here on the weekends, but come Monday everyone is here. Sounds like your off to a good start already.

tony that's great staying on plan with company. I agree, nothing is worth a set back. Plus for me I like the food I eat and if I'm craving for something, I can usually tweek it to be lc so I'm not missing anything.

Hey everybody! So I stayed the same this week. Has anyone done very low carb? I am going to try it this week to see if I can't get off the plateau.

Tony & Misty, thanks for the warm welcome!

Artemis, how do you define VLC? I usually try to keep my total carbs below 20g per day and rely heavily on my ****** to track that. Some days are higher, but not a lot....I feel much better if I stay at or below 20.....and it seems to help keep the weight loss relatively consistent as well.

in response to my first plateau....

i actually upped my carbs to 25 net. my 1st DELIBERATE sortie beyond 20 grams was yesterday. when i totalled 24. I almost always estimate up to the next whole # when it comes to certain things like cheese and salad. So, it might be closer to 22 or 23 grams. I cannot wait to sample my new blueberries (bought the smallest container possible-6 oz by weight).-4.1 gr net per 1/4 cup as per DANDR. I forgot to buy sour cream. I do not eat carbs alone. I kept at or below my WW daily points, this weekend. I am quite pleased with myself. I did not have a steak this weekend, but I did eat 16 oz of roast beef from the deli counter at SHOPRITE, with a romaine salad which incl 1/2 oz crushed walnuts and 2 T of Newman's Caesar dressing. That was not enough. less than an hour later, i had about 10 - 11 oz of smoked white fish. That did the trick (it was late afternoon)until about 6:45pm. I had a Happy Family (from the Great
Wall chinese take-out-ATKINS-IZED, & I am pleased to say, 2 1/2 ribs from a small rib order-no bbq sauce. If i had finished the 3rd rib, I would have hurled. I also, at about 10 am, consumed my 3rd ATKINS ADV BAR since 4/1/10. I am so glad i am not hooked on those things. There are so many ingredients that go into that thing, almost all of which do not seem to be necessary. it does taste good (the choc PB bar) -2 gr net. It better, for the $3.19 I paid for it, i washed it down with a large Earl Grey tea. I was at the B&N cafe, and it was an alternative to the off-plan goodies they have there. I just heard, btw, that Jack La Lanne died. He was 96. I hope I can absorb something of his spirit. I can use all the help I can get. He was a true giant. FF

Still struggling to stay on plan. Trying to take a deep breath and start anew each day, but for some reason, I give in to temptation. Now, this is coming from the person who used to tell people "Just Do It" and I can't even take my own advice.

that all actually sounded delicious, ff...i think it's good that you are mixing things up a bit...if you add a few grams of carbs and then deduct a few grams, etc., i think it tricks your body and helps you to get it to give up some weight... :-)

remember, kids, our bodies are trying to hang onto the weight we want to lose...that's a biological fact...so, this requires altering our strategies from time to time...

i ate a little too late last night...didn't get home from work until after 9 p.m., but stayed on plan...i am still determined to get to 1derland by the end of this blitz and this is an important week toward that end...want to say goodbye to the 210s pretty badly, so if i don't achieve a 209 or better, i will institute the "no eating after 9 p.m." rule next week...let's see if that is enough of a threat to keep me focused... :-)

vicki, don't get down on yourself...starting anew each day is the right approach, as you're only as good or as bad as your last meal or snack...

i have struggled with the same things you are, many times in my life, and several times during these blitzes and i think that is normal when you are trying to transform yourself in any important way...we all give into temptation sometimes and i think that is okay as it makes us feel that we are in control, but if it becomes habitual and is thwarting our overall goals, i think we have to look in the mirror and ask ourselves how badly we want to achieve the goal...

there's nothing inherently wrong with not being ready to take on this kind of challenge...i have been overweight for 20 years, i knew it, and did not stay on any plan to change it...i do regret it, because it had health consequences i am now working to undo and it affected my energy and abilities to do physical things during my relative youth...but even with those good reasons to change, i didn't...

you are right, YOU CAN DO THIS but only when you are ready to do this...are you ready?...don't just answer "yes" - think about it...ARE YOU READY?...and don't beat yourself up, just look in the mirror every morning or every time you are feeling weak and like you want to give into temptation and ask, AM I READY?...REQUIRE yourself to say "no" out loud before you put whatever it is in your mouth, so it is a conscious choice with accepted consequences...

we love you and are here for you no matter what...even if you are not ready, i hope you will hang out here until you are...you are a good person and stonger than you know...YOU WILL DO THIS, kid...hang in there!

Hey everyone, Happy Monday.
Welcome Ladyboss!

Well, Friday AM weigh-in showed a 1 lb gain... and decided to step on the scale on Saturday morning to, thankfully, a 1.5 lb loss. Go figure.

Vicki - do you have the temptation items in your home? That is my downfall, if it's there I'm going to eat it. Like the 5 lb can of deluxe giant cashews that DH got during holiday season! Oh man. That helped with me 5.5 lb holiday gain.

There's plenty of good things to eat in this WOE, and putting together something really tasty that you can look forward to helps. And preparing a little extra so you have a lunch or dinner the next day helps too.

Drink your water today everyone!

good point, nancy...i do waaaay better when i prepare a variety of on-plan tasty meals and keep on-plan snacks that will satisfy a range of cravings...and i can't keep the "bad" stuff in the house because i simply don't have the will power not to eat it...

Welcome Boss Lady!!
Things are going well here. Exercising some...and eating very well. Got a yogurt maker for Christmas and LOVE it. I make it with half whole milk and half cream. Thick and very satisfying.

FF...I've been on an asparagus kick lately. I'm going to try making it your way. Sounds good!

vicki...after being mostly LC for the last 8 years, I have been really struggling as of late. I am taking it meal by meal, otherwise it seems too overwhelming right now. Tony had some really great advice.

tony...as always, I just appreciate your attitude so much. Love ya, bro.

Clanger...having trouble downloading stuff. Apparently there's too much stuff stored on my computer or something.(which I know NOTHING about) For now, I am walking on the treadmill for 20-30 mins. How's it going for you?

greetings kbeth....

the asparagus is not only yummy, but easy too. At $1.99 the bunch, it is fairly cheap too. That makes it cheap and easy (heh heh). i hope u will remember to give me the beef vegetable soup recipe. Today, in the NE, it is a great day for soup, or for that matter, anything hot. I am gonna grab some cheese now. I am deliberately postponing bkfst till past 10 a.m. on weekdays. The real hump of my daily grind is between 10:30am and 1 PM. The odd thing is, as I am jibber-jabbering, i am not even hungry. i think i will postpone the cheese. FF

doing well on the stair climbing.

there are 48 steps between the 1st floor, and the 3rd, where my office is. I have already done it twice today. I hope to do it twice more before the work day is over. It does not get easier, but i take some pride and satisfaction that i am able to do it. no chest pains. it is a foregone conclusion that i will get an ekg on 2/5/11. I am almost quite certain, it will be fine. I will be looking into the possibility of acquiring a treadmill for the house. I can walk for hours w/o the need for shoes. FF

thanks kbeth, i love you too, sis :-) sounds like you are doing great...i always feel better when i move around as much as possible - not so much while i am moving, but always better in the aftermath...and you are eating healthy - that's the most important thing of all - that you are nourishing yourself properly...i'm so proud of you for all you are doing...

marilee is carrying some of us this month...thank goodness the month isn't ending today or i would be up 2 lbs. since the start of the blitz...i'll try to be a good boy this week or i'm afraid you guys will be beating up on me next monday!...

ff, that is awesome that you are able to do that many stairs...that is building the large muscles in your legs which will help rev up your fat burning engines!...great job, man...

Nobody is going to get beat up!!!!!

We all have our highs and lows. I keep telling myself this is a marathon, not a sprint.

ff-good for you for donig stairs. I can't do them now, but hopefully before too long. Can't wait to see what the doctor says about my knee tomorrow.

I would like the beef soup recipe too, please.

Hi, all! Doing my sporadic check-in. Still enjoying my "electronics fast," though I expect that will change soon and I will rejoin the regularly scheduled Internet, already in progress.

I'm doing well with exercising 6 days a week, and that has been my major focus this year. My weight hasn't changed since the beginning of the year, but my measurements have. I had been wearing a 1X, but am now starting to fit into some of my XL's instead. I'm looking forward to shrinking out of all the "X sizes."

Lizzie, I'm sure you meant to say, GO STEELERS!!!

By very low carb I meant like a lot less than the allowed 20 net grams. I know a lot of people who are not on Atkins who benefit from carb cycling...that is eating more carbs one day and a lot less the next...to trick the metabolism. So I can see how that might help in Atkins too. Eating the allowed amount for a few days then a few days of very low and so on. I dunno...I think you just have to find whatever works best for your metabolism.
Great job everybody for staying motivated!

Ooooh, that sounds interesting, kbeth. Is it difficult / time consuming to make?

Do you have an ipod touch/iphone, or another sort of ipod? Just wondering if you're downloading a C25K app, or a podcast. I use this app on an ipod touch C25K (Couch to 5K) for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad on the iTunes App Store and it's great as you can add your own music / playlists. I hope you get your technial issues sorted out soon!

I'm doing ok thanks - just re-starting week 3, day 1 of the programme this morning (if I can wake myself up properly!). I do get a bit discouraged that I'm not better / fitter... then I remember that I'm still about 40lbs overweight so it's not surprising I'm not running a marathon ! I should just be grateful that the poundng my knees are taking hasn't turned them to dust yet!

I do get the impression that my fellow gym goers are concerned that I'll keel over with a heart attack, though . Sweating profusely, out of breath, still technially obese, and with a face an alarming shade of deep puce as I plod away on the treadmill - a picture of grace, elegance and sophisticated womanhood !

Glad you're eating healthily and taking care of yourself !

Good for you. What type of exercise do you enjoy?

Well, best be off to the gym to alarm the other patrons !

i live in Bklyn., USA. someone is always getting beaten up!!!

But, not me...not yet!!! However, i am pleased as low carb punch. I remembered to bring my low carb pita back to work this morning where it is safe.I did not touch it last night. On Sunday, i did consume 1/2 a loaf twice. There are 6 loaves per pack. I still have 5 left. To me, that is a big deal. I have the STARCHLUST. I think that is much worse than JIMMYLEGS. The brand name is Toufayan-a family run affair out of NJ. 1 whole loaf is 16 gr carb total less 9 grams of fiber. So 1/2 = 3.5 gr net. Not a bad deal. Here are the ingredients in the order listed on the package: water, wheat gluten stone ground whole wheat flour, corn starch, oat fiber, etc etc etc. it is delish, and smells as sweet as Latinum. Now, i am gonna put it in the fridge, before i lose control. Well, it is official. My brother is bringing the computer on Sunday, and the following Sat., the cable people will be doing their bit. It never occurred to me until recently that the computer may divert my attention away from the kitchen. Now I can spend some quality time at home with a minimum of worry. What will they think of next? FF
