i must say i do not stay on plan if pressured.

i can never stay on any "diet" if i feel compelled. Truly, i want to put as little effort as possible. I treat it as a game. That way, I am in it for the long haul. FF

you are a marvel, my friend...

having a white-knuckle night as i struggle to curb my appetite...you guys would be proud of me though - i was at the mall and picked up a bunch of soft pretzels and a couple of pizzas for the kids and didn't even taste either...

so far tonight, i've had a salad with salmon olive oil and vinegar, and a leftover broiled turkey burger...trying to drink a lot of water and putting some time in between portions...tomorrow morning is weigh-in and i'm hoping not to gain more than 2 lbs....HELP!
:-)

well, i don't know how, but i managed to go to sleep without overindulging last night, and i feel much better for it this morning...it was the first really good day i had all week...today's official weigh-in so i'll know what the damage is, shortly... :-)

suffice it to say, not only did i not reach my goal of 209 for the week, i doubt i reached my goal of three weeks ago, either...

we are having a family christmas party at my house on sunday and my siblings will be bringing over a lot of things i can't eat and that's okay...but i know how important it is for me to stay under control from now until then...i will be able to make sure there's plenty of food i can eat...

how is everyone else doing?

good luck with weigh-in today, ff :-)

I am still hanging in there, barely by a thread. I am reading Jonny Bowden's book "Living the Low Carb Life" to get prepped and motivated.

Welcome, NCGIRL and I am glad to see LCshadows, ff, and Tony are regularly posting.

i am actually feeling fine today.

I have been able to put the cane on the back burner, at least for the time being. However, i am still limping like POOR UNCLE CLAVDIVS. And, my appetite is quite large, but controllable. I finally made my steak yesterday (i was supposed to have it last Saturday.) It weighed 0.93 lbs before cooking. Allowing for bone weight, and shrinkage I counted 13 oz. After which, i ate 1 oz walnuts. I also made a meat loaf using 80% ground meat. At least 1/3 of 3.14 lbs turned to melted fat. The salter scale which I have had for 2 years, and never used, had a battery in it after all. So, tonight I will be weighing food for the first time. I got 4 thick pieces out of it plus the one i ate last night. Today is WEIGH-IN DAY. Except for Sunday (noodle day), i was VLC the other 6 days(that incl today). the highest day was 13 gr carbs, and the lowest 5.5 All the others under 10. I will see that today follows suit. I am somewhat obsessed about getting below 300 before year's end. It would be a great watershed event, or rather a fat-shed event, and of great psychological value, and a validation of my efforts to show the world that LC, and specifically ATKINS works. Also, that in spite of all the saturated fat i have consumed and still consume, I still live and breathe. 3 years ago, i hit a plateau around 301 lbs. Let us hope history does not repeat itself....yet. FF

ff, whether you get below 300 or not (and that can be a lot of weight to lose in two weeks), your efforts have been more than validated to anyone who has been paying any attention at all...you are proving your theories every day, with remarkable consistency...

you will have plateaus, and when you do, we'll help you through them, just as you have helped us through ours :-)

great to see you, vicki!...

great news, ncgirl...congratulations!...i think it makes these goals much more difficult if on top of worrying about what we're eating, we have to worry about whether we will be eating :-)

Thanks! Oh and btw, I am making a written declaration to keep me on track...today is a snow day so my 16 year old son who eats like a horse is out of school. We are having our snow day tradition and going to a pizza place. The owners are from NY and their pizza, well everything they make is out of this world good. I am declaring that I will not have pizza, but will have a Greek salad instead, no bread, no sides.

My god you are strong ncgirl37 but it is only food after all and greek salads are mighty tasty in my book too! I would probably eat the top off one slice while I was at it though...

I'm back down to my lowest weight today, whew!, I'm still not sure what caused the huge jump up on the scale but it was pretty scary. I also have a ton of socializing going on over the weekend and my goal is just to minimize any damage. I can't handle working so hard during the week to drop off weight I've gained over the weekend, just to do it all over again--but that might have to be the pattern for me through the holidays, ...at least I won't have gained.

Have a good day everyone!

u could if u wanted...

eat the toppings. Every now and then, i get 2 (or 3)slices, and get meatballs and sausage on top. Then i eat everything on top with a fork, and omit the crust completely. I put lots of garlic, oregano and red pepper flakes on it, and wash it down with diet coke, or water and my vitamins. But, as I said, only every now and then (more then, and less now) But good for u for going in with a plan. FF This was, for me, one of those NO GOOD DEED GOES UNPUNISHED WEEKS. I was up 0.7 lbs. The good news is that everytime that happens, the following week is a good whoosh. I will be concentrating on getting more phys activity (i really am one lazy troll, u know). Well, back to work. Talk to y'all later. FF

See that's my problem too. I will do good all week, drop a few pounds, then gain it all back over the weekend plus one. Then I spend the next week re-losing what I gained. Got to break the cycle. Hoping the Blitz will keep me accountable....and btw....I just had the Greek salad w/grilled ckn. So good!

great to see everyone posting today :-)

well, the bad news is that i did NOT lose any weight this week...the good news is that i didn't gain any either...which means i averaged eating about 2300 calories a day (my maintenance level)...in previous weeks, i guess i was averaging about 1700-1800 in order to lose a pound a week...

jenny, it's scary how much we seem to parallel each other...i got back to my low of 210 today - it was a tough week so i'm pleased to have treaded water...seems like we all gained and lost the same weight this week... :-)

congrats ncgirl on skipping the pizza - i did the same thing last night...it was tempting but i had done so poorly eating the previous few days, i did not even allow myself the toppings...

i'm really proud of all of us for being able to slip, but not fall...

ff, i know you will lose next week...i think our bodies need a break once in awhile and i agree that it's easier to lose in the week after a gain...good luck!

So far today:

B: coffee, cream
L: Greek salad/wchkn
Snack: pepperoni slices, two tbspn. pnut butter (my weakness) but was able to stop at two
D: Maybe two pieces of grilled ckn, not sure.

Btw, decided to give up peanut butter for the Blitz that will start in January but am committing to right now only eat it once a week and just 2 spoonfuls. I need to give it up b/c I love it and have a hard time stopping so just going to quit the addiction in January LOL.

Ok...I totally don't get it. Not only did I not eat breakfast or dinner yesterday (major winter house cleaning and got busy), I really expected at least a one pound loss..nope. I gained a pound. WTH? I haven't had time to research the sodium yet and thinking it's got to be water gain. Greek Salad w/just lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, feta cheese, grilled chicken and no more than 2 tbspns. balsamic vinegerette. Snacked on about 15-20 pepperoni slices ( I know it's a lot!) and about two tbls of peanut butter, max 3 but doubt it. I am so disappointed. I have family coming in this weekend, my very very skinny sister who models and this week I managed to gain three pounds. Going to research the sodium and forgive the typos...it's early.

ncgirl, doing daily weigh-ins is one of the things that has helped me the most - not just because it keeps me accountable and on a short leash (which i need) but also because it taught me not to panic over gains because i've seen my weight drop just as quickly as it has risen...

we just met, so i don't know how deeply you've studied the biology of all this - but i've done a lot of research this year to try to understand my body and what it needs and what it will take to lose this excess weight...if you google "calorie requirements" and plug in your stats, a calorie requirements calculator will tell you how many calories you need to eat to maintain your weight - this number will go down as you lose weight - mine right now is about 2300 cals/day...

1 lb. of weight is the equivalent of 3500 calories - so unless you increase your activity from what you entered into the cal. req. calc., theoretically, you won't lose a lb. until you have eaten 3500 cals less than you need to maintain your current weight...so if i didn't eat a thing for 2 days, that would be 4600 cals less than i need, so i would lose about 1 1/3 lbs....of course, there are other variables like my body going into starvation mode and holding onto weight, etc...and low carb helps accelerate things a bit by helping you burn your own fat, but cals in and cals out still rule in a very real sense...

once i learned this, i became much more patient and much less discouraged by the slow and steady pace of my weight loss...if i want to lose just 1 lb per week, i have to eat 3500 less cals that week or about 500 less per day than the 2300 i need to maintain my current weight...

since you are a woman and lighter, you require fewer maint. cals, and in order to lose that same 1 lb in a week, you'll have to reduce a higher percentage of your daily diet to drop 500 cals...does that make sense?...not sure i am explaining it clearly...

so, it's almost impossible to lose a pound in a day when you only weigh 180 lbs. - now of course, the scale may drop a lb or more in a day or two, but that is either fluid or weight you've actually lost over several days...the good news is that in order to gain three pounds of fat in a week, you'd have to eat 3x3500 additional calories on top of what you need to maintain your weight...so that probably didn't happen unless you've been on a real binge...

hope this helps...it helped me a lot to understand this...i watch the scale, but i don't react too strongly to what it says, because i better understand its limitations :-)

i get weighed once a week.

when i reach pre-maintenance, i will probably weigh more often, perhaps evey other day. I have quite a long time to go before that happens. I started weighing and measuring, as of last night. It's fun. I ate 7 5/8 oz of meat loaf. this morning I consumed 4.8 net carb carb grams, and 4.2 WW points. if nothing happens on the scale next week, it will notbe because of something I failed to do. I will be quite busy this weekend. Even during the Met Opera broadcast (radio), i will be doing housework, long put off till now. I bought a lb of amaretto flavored coffee, and International Delight sugar free french vanilla flavored cream (1 gr per 1T). That goes so well with opera. Sunday, i am going BACK TO THE BAKERY, for some gift cookies for others, and 1 or 2 low carb Tiramisu portions, 1 or 2 low carb cheesecake portions, and 1 or 2 low carb gelato portions. I am leaving nothing to chance. I will have to keep the gift cookie set in my house till thursday (it is for my Xmas dinner hostess and her family.)the other cookies are for the office, which i am bringing to work on Monday. But, i will be good as gold. I was dissappointed to learn that they only ship cookies. the only way to sample their cheesecake etc is to come to Bklyn. If i lived in another star system (and i once did), it would still be worth the trip. FF

we just met, so i don't know how deeply you've studied the biology of all this - but i've done a lot of research this year to try to understand my body and what it needs and what it will take to lose this excess weight...if you google "calorie requirements" and plug in your stats, a calorie requirements calculator will tell you how many calories you need to eat to maintain your weight - this number will go down as you lose weight - mine right now is about 2300 cals/day...

1 lb. of weight is the equivalent of 3500 calories - so unless you increase your activity from what you entered into the cal. req. calc., theoretically, you won't lose a lb. until you have eaten 3500 cals less than you need to maintain your current weight...so if i didn't eat a thing for 2 days, that would be 4600 cals less than i need, so i would lose about 1 1/3 lbs....of course, there are other variables like my body going into starvation mode and holding onto weight, etc...and low carb helps accelerate things a bit by helping you burn your own fat, but cals in and cals out still rule in a very real sense...

once i learned this, i became much more patient and much less discouraged by the slow and steady pace of my weight loss...if i want to lose just 1 lb per week, i have to eat 3500 less cals that week or about 500 less per day than the 2300 i need to maintain my current weight...

since you are a woman and lighter, you require fewer maint. cals, and in order to lose that same 1 lb in a week, you'll have to reduce a higher percentage of your daily diet to drop 500 cals...does that make sense?...not sure i am explaining it clearly...

so, it's almost impossible to lose a pound in a day when you only weigh 180 lbs.

Tony thanks for the encouragement and details...I know I need to look at the bigger picture and trying to do so....just frustrating. Today I went to Wal-Mart and bought a carton of the Atkins mocha latte shakes and a pack of high protein low carb peanut butter flavored bars. Figured I would swap these out for the afternoon peanut butter cravings and not every day.

Sorry I've been absent - a lot going on in life.

Not doing well, not doing as bad as I could....

Today is our office Christmas luncheon. We weren't given an entree selection prior to the event, so I'm assuming there will be a buffet.

Take care and TTYL!
