That's absolutely wonderful, Dede!!!! Enjoyed your resort, and no damages. That's heaven!!! I've tried a deuretic, but as usual with meds, felt horrid. I just can't tolerate any pills other than most supplements. I am so water retentive- wish I could take something!!
As for the knife, you give me the willies- at least hide it- If "it" got to grab Vlad's arm, "it" coulda grabbed your knife- and then where would we be?

No appointments to get to today.....I get to stay home with Ken this morning and veg as I don't have any classes until this evening! YAY!!!

Had a great day yesterday, with eating and with everything! For dinner I had saute'd escarole with boiled red potatoes, onions and garlic, seasoned with red pepper flakes, olive oil and salt and pepper. That was it! It was really delicious! I am learning I don't have to have so much to eat at a sitting!
That's great, Jackie- I call it eating with my tummy- mindful eating. Surprising how little we really need to be full. Read somewhere that your stomachs are as big as our fists- that's really all we need. Hmm.....

Well, I slept well last night. Except, I had a very vivid dream in which someone grabbed my arm and when I woke up startled, I still felt that "grab" on my arm. Weird...

The weather is awful here - cold and rainy. I am so tempted to say, to heck with it all, and crawl back under my warm blankie. Sigh... Not a chance.

I am trying to give up my coffee (at least until I cure this dang heartburn) so I am drinking this barley-chicory potion (a.k.a., you are right Smarty Pants Dede, the witch brew). It's OK but I miss my java.

Mary, I can get you one every week, if you behave (I say in Austin Powers voice). Porthos woofs his thank you.

Hey Gemi,
I am not sure if it is helping yet. I think I should stay on it for a few weeks and have 3-4 glasses a day. Yesterday I managed just one. Bad me. I did order Aloe and I guess it should be here any day (thank you, Jackie!).

I hope you slept well. Is it as miserable in MD as it is here in PA?

Hey Dede
I am glad you slept better. How strange is that - a few of us had trouble sleeping the other night? Oooooo - maybe there is something in the atmosphere .

Also, can't be happier that your weight is back to pre-getaway. Don't lose those pills again

I laughed out loud about your sleeping with a kitchen knife. that's what I do!!! And we have a security system and a 120 pound "baby" sleeping with me in bed ready to pounce on anybody who comes in. And yet, that kitchen knife seems like the best idea. I guess we are no sissies - we are always ready for a close combat!

All I have to say - I love my coin

Jackie, everything you cook sounds DELISH I was very tempted to go for one of those pre-made Amy's pizza's when I realized that i my grocery shopping frenzy I didn't buy a few things for my planned meal (Shiitake stir fry). Then I felt ashamed of myself for trying to find an easy way out and I quickly put together Baked chicken, wild rice and asparagus (from Clean Eating mag). It was delicious and not much hassle.

I think this rainy weather affects me - I feel very sluggish. Dede, I am coming for a visit

P.S. OK, I just re-read my post and there are so many typos and misspellings that I am not going to fix them)
You guys are giving me the creeps!!! When's Holloween ?
We need the rain so badly that cloudy weather makes us happy, not to mention rain. After our latest heatwave I've had enough sun for awhile... It finally broke and I actually enjoyed my walk today after the gym.
Got a wonderful workout today- I will be sure to soak tonight. Also got a wonderful welcome from the staff and other ladies- it warmed my heart! I'm not sure the gym is going to make it. His last ploy really damaged attendence.. but my class is still there, as are the elliptical machines, and I am set for the next 4 months on my old membership (I'm supposed to keep it a secret as I'm the only one, it seems, that questioned the legalities nicely, and got the arrangement- the other ones are either disgruntled and left, or swallowed it and paid up.)- The "minor" partner was there today and insinuated I am the only "trouble maker"- but the manager shut her up quick. My place on the floor was waiting for me- and the instructor kept saying how much she had missed me- needless to say (but I did, or course- it was mutual!!) . I guess I need the stroking- what's wrong with me?
Afterwards I walked to a local supermarket I never get to and picked up some good deals.
It's great to be back on my activity schedule.

Vlad, I wish you could track down the cause of your GERD!!!! Seems you're just putting out fires. Excuse the pun!

dede~~I just remembered that you asked if the Raven's played last week. No it was a bye week. This Sunday they are back at home.

I'm going to try my own thing with what I have learned from Wendy. Cycling my carb days but not the same every week, then adding a holiday carb up once a month or every six weeks. I finally had a eye opening moment, so to speak, when Kathy over on the other board was talking to Mary about all of this. For a while my head was spinning from their chit chat. Who says you can't teach us old dogs new tricks!!

Now if I can get my sister to do this. She has gained a lot and so has my BIL. They're on a 17 day Cruise right now. Started in San Diego and will go down the Pacific coast, through the canal, etc and end up at the Baltimore Port. Too long for me and HE would have driven me crazy.

OK, just had my last bite and will check back with you all later.
Yes, that Kathy on the other thread is a real power house!!
WOuldn't be surprised if your father's passing has effected her more that she would admit- her living there and all- with the added stress of her wonderful DH.
I could just imagine the two of you on a cruise together ( you and her DH)- bickering over the buffet. Actually, him making remarks, and you developing an ulcer. .... Wonder if they have cabbage juice on the ship.

I also sleep better when DH is away I'm a very light sleeper.

Dede--yay on ditching the water weight!

Linda--our bye week is this week (Steelers). Football is such a community social thing in our area, we have a football party every week somewhere or another--this weekend will seem strange, and then we have to wait all the way until next Monday night before they play again. At least we have the Penguins going well. I am such a total sports nut.

Jackie--I agree, all your stuff sounds so delicious, and I don't think I remembered to publicly drool all over your Christmas dinner menu for the library. Yum.

I'm kind of stiff and sore this a.m. It has been really dry here for the summer, and so the ornamental ponds I dug out in the front have dried up. It just hit me the other day that maybe the reason why one pond has an algae problem when the others don't is because it's not as deep as the others (guess I ran out of steam, since that was the last one I dug). So I decided to deepen it yesterday while they were still empty. It takes a LOT of wheelbarrows full of dirt to dig down six to eight inches in a 15' x 8' pond lol.

Which leads me to--hooray for Baxyl! I had given up on digging because of my bad knees, but they have been feeling so good I thought I could try. I figured I'd stop at the first hint of a problem. My knees are not troubling me one bit today. My back, shoulders, thighs and arms on the other hand.....

Donna

You need a "salty soak"- great upper body exercise you got there!

Lucky woman- wish I could sleep like that. Maybe it's all that digging-

Slept better last night because DH worked through the night and wasn't home. Not real happy about that but it's a situation where the work can't be done during normal business hours.

I didn't have to come up with anything for dinner because it was just me and the doggies. So I ate my tuna salad minus any bread and a garden salad. I was satisfied.

Jackie~~It doesn't take much food to satsify us. I have to sometimes think it through while eating. Like when I think I am hungry, I just drink some water. If the hunger doesn't go away I will grab a small snack and eat slowly. Then I'm good.

Morning to anyone who jumped on. Off to eat, clean the house, exercise and drink some green tea!
Morning, girlfriend! Walked my dvd this morning, then ate my raw oats, 3/4 cup raw, rolled oats, 1 Tablespoon sunflower seeds, 1/2 Tablespoon dried cranberries, 1/2 Tablespoon raisins covered with unsweetened, almond milk for 1 hour. Added 2 Tablespoons Saigon cinnamon and 1 Tablespoon agave nectar and 1 small, sliced banana. Delicious and filling!

Drank my vitamins, some coffee (I'm with you, Vladis. Seems like my body is wanting to come off coffee, I'm not enjoying it.) There is a dandelion brew I found on Gold Mine Natural Food Co. and I've heard a lot of people talk about using it instead of coffee. We've used roasted barley tea and liked it too.

I couldn't find that coin. Do you have an exact link?

Your dinner sounds delish! Tonight we are going to have some saute'd kale with garlic and lemon, a baked sweet potato and a nice big salad! YUMMMMMM. What does your shiitake stirfry have in it? I have a friend who is growing the most beautiful and delicious shiitakes. I love them!

Also, I agree! Porthos looks adorable!

Vladis, it unnerves me when I have dreams like you had, and I've had them before. Especially if I am alone in the house!

That is a lot of digging to do. Good for you! YAY for Baxyl. I have an appointment with Ortho in the morning and I can't wait for him to see how much better I am with this and not doing the injections! Hopefully they will pay for it!

Linda-Who are your Ravens playing this week? Are y'all going? Yep, if you went on a 17 day cruise with your dbil,(and I don't mean "darling"),ONE of you wouldn't make it off that ship alive!

Donna-I'm making your Greens and Beans recipe tonight. I'll have one more vegetable and that will be my meal. With DH gone,I feel like I can have a vegetarian meal. He'd be saying,"Seriously?! Where's the meat?"

Okay, going to shower and get dressed for the day. Lots to do! I'll check back in later.

Hi, Dede. I had a hard time with my walk also. But, I met this chiropractor this weekend at the raw foods seminar and he sent me part 1 of a series he did on the 5 mistakes we make when working out. I was concentrating on doing the first one and I think when you concentrate like that, you exhaust yourself a little easier.

Taking a break from the dust I'm stirring up. Dogs aren't too happy because I shooed them out of the house. Lazy critters.

Donna~~Oh there are always weekend parties when the Ravens play also. We play the Steelers @ the end of Nov (here) and Dec (there). I have to say, they have always been rivals (not in a mean way though), but that last game we played with the Vikings! boy those guys were out for a killing. Haven't figured them out yet unless it's their guy Allen. Trouble maker from what I read.

dede~~yeah going to the game it's with Denver.

Hi Jackie and T**!

Back to work, later ladies.

Me again

It seems hard to get going today. Maybe the lack of caffeine? I am going to measure my BP

Gemi (this is my gentle name for you, BTW), can you expand on this? I must be dense (lack of caffeine again) and don't quite get it

Hey Donna, we are in the Eagles fans' land but we like the Steelers. My DH used to play football in college and now he is really not at all into it. However, he can't stand the obnoxious Philly fans (I think the worst in the nation - JMHO). Also, I LOVE hockey (as I should, growing up in the Soviet Union)

Oh no, my baby can go at it. Try delivering some Japanese food to our door Our FedEx man usually tosses the packages along the driveway if Porthos happens to be outside We have those side windows on the door and he is usually eye to eye with delivery people - scarrrrry. He is a gentle giant but he is a good protector for his DM

Jackie, I saw that dandelion "coffee". Maybe I should get it. I decided to go for a chicory-barley mix this time. I also added just a tiniest bit of instant coffee (maybe 1/4 tsp). It was OK. I probably finished 1 cup. So far, so good - I am not a threat to humanity .

The coin link: Noble Hammer™ - The Genuine Carry Coin™

Stir-fry - I can post the recipe on the recipe thread. It has shiitake, carrots, garlic, ginger, edamame and a few regular spices. It's very simple and really good with some brown rice. Of course, I forgot to get cornstarch (don't have it at home - threw it out in one of my clean eating manic cupboard cleaning).

Hi T**! You are right - I wish I could get to the bottom of my discomfort. I know I have a mild gastritis and that my esophagus was inflamed. I wish I knew if I am getting this heartburn as a result of low acidity or high acidity I am reading a great book Total Body Tune Up by Dr. Michael Murray. He has questionnaires there and I am at 9 for low acidity and at 7 for high I wish I could find a natural practitioner near me. Maybe I will look into that. In the meantime, I think my cabbage juicing time is fast approaching

OK here it is and Kathy has more on the other thread how she started Crack then flipped over to Conquer, adapted this and that. My head was spinning. Anyway here is the Holiday schedule. I need the carb cycling. Oh and now I put two and two together about my off and on headaches (thanks Dr Oz). I have been cutting back on coffee also. Just 1 or 1/2 cup in the AM and no soda. Just water and green tea. That may be the reason, . I like Hockey too but DH isn't a big fan. Boxing also.

Saturday and Sunday, November 21 & 22, Baseline

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, November 23-25 EITHER Deplete or Carb Down, depending on how much you plan to "cheat" on Thanksgiving (Me, I'll Deplete, it really doesn't bother me and we celebrate both Mom & Dad's b-day on Thanksgiving, so that means cake along w/ everything else)

Thanksgiving CHEAT DAY!

Friday, November 27, Deplete

Conquer also has plans for a weekend indulgence and a two week plan that uses a family reunion as an example.

The weekend indulgence starting w/ a Monday is Deplete, Carb Down, Baseline, Carb Down, Deplete, (Saturday) Carb Up, Sunday (Cheat).

That's here I got the idea for my mini-indulgence

Who knows, but it should work!

Saturday, November 28, Baseline

Just got back from eating a salad with my mom. I got home just in time to kiss DH bye. He's off to Biloxie on business,(and I'm sure a little gambling while he's there).

Tam-Sooo glad you're back at the gym and you didn't have to pay more. Hopefully they will acquire some new members so they won't end up closing. You know what's good for water retention food-wise? Watermelon but even more so,asparagus.

Jackie-I may have asked you before-are "raw oats" different than the Old Fashioned Quaker? I think I would love the way you make your oatmeal. It sounds good and chewy.

Vladis-Okay,so Porthos isn't just a cute, cuddly teddy bear. You should feel very good when your DH is gone.

Linda-I'm not sure if we're going to a football party this Saturday or not but I hope not,as they tend to sabotage me. I do love them though. Nothin like cheerin and beerin with a bunch of people all with the same agenda!

Goin to make my grocery list. Later "girlfriends".

Dede: I have always made them using the Old-Fashioned oats and loved it. I thought those would be considered "raw", but I found out that most rolled oats are steam rolled (I just imagined this great big steamroller rolling over them ), so I ordered some that were totally raw, cold-rolled. the site is Gold Mine Natural Food Co. My gosh what a place. I want some of everything! Between them and Living Tree Community Foods - Raw, Organic & Kosher Food I could spend every dime I make!

Enjoy your quiet time!

I just had a most wonderful lunch. A nice salad with romaine hearts and baby spinach (about 3 cups), 1 tomato, 1/2 avocado, chopped, 1/2 cup shredded carrots, 2 radishes, sliced. I made the dressing out of juice from the Peppadews I bought, 1/2 lemon, juiced and pinch of salt and black pepper. Delicious! I also saute'd 1 medium zucchini, 1/2 leek, sliced and 3 handfuls of mung bean sprouts, squirted with a dash of Nama Shoyu. Also had sliced cucumbers and celery sticks with 1 serving of hummus that I made. I am so full, but it was so delicious!

Sounds wonderful, Jackie- and almost totally raw (besides the hummus- any way to do that raw)???

Linda-I'm not sure if we're going to a football party this Saturday or not but I hope not,as they tend to sabotage me. I do love them though. Nothin like cheerin and beerin with a bunch of people all with the same agenda!

Goin to make my grocery list. Later "girlfriends".
Well, then you've kissed DH and some money goodbye JUST kidding- couldn't resist that! He'll actually win a million and come home with a 5 carat rock for your finger!!

Ya , sure, watermelon- while Crackin' I have a bit once a week in my Sabbath brunch fruitsalad, but you would need loads to help with water retention. No asparagus here other than the bottles stuff for 2.5$- tastes horrid, or sometimes real buggy stuff in the market.

Staying away from too much carbs and salt does help, but I am always a bit puffy. My MD says if I lose the extra weight that will become better also. Duh- easier said than done....

If DS12 would only get to bed I will go in for a soak. If I just go in, he won't sleep and I'll never get him up in the morning.

Hi, Health Buds!

Life has been going well today. I will sart the Metabolism Miracle starting Monday for 8 weeks. Like the reasoning behind it and if it isn't too regimented, should be able to do it and see what happens.

I couldn't believe I am continuing to lose on Crack Maintenance! But I am! You all have such great ideas and I am totally NO caffiene right now.

Had some sleep issues this week as well, but attributed it to trying to "change" my internal clock by going to bed earlier. Went to bed around 11:45 PM and was up at 7:45 AM. That was a first. Now if I can just make that a new habit....#%@^!

It's fun to see what's happening with the NEWBIES on the other thread! Helps spark some motivation in this "old chick".

FYI

Since this thread is about health and WHOLE Living, I wanted to share something else I have heard about. I've heard it a couple of times recently, so I figured it is something I need to listen to.

This weekend, Angela Stokes Monarch, spoke about the need to really make sure we brush and floss to help maintain our health, but something else she mentioned was "scraping"/"cleaning" your tongue. I had just heard Dr. Oz also talking about this, so the light bulb went off. Well then Saturday night I saw a TV commercial about a new toothbrush that OralB is making that has a built in tongue scraper. So I thought, "Okay, Jackie, you're being told something here." So just thought I would share that. I do brush my tongue, but scraping it is a whole different ball game!

Just FYI

Good idea Jackie!

I'm enjoying my "quiet time" and cooking a few things. I'm making Donna's escarole and cannelinni bean recipe and slow roasting some roma tomatoes. Yum! Can't wait for dinner!

Okay I started this manuscript this morning and got the chance to go to the Vitamin shoppe some 45 miles away and I went.

Dede - so glad you slept better and the unplanned weight is coming off! Yes Linda's plan does make good sense.

Jackie -- last night's dinner sounds great. I do scrape my tongue and have for sometime with an instrument a dental hygenist (sp) friend got me but I hate it(it like takes tongue tissue with it) sorry TMI. I will look into that toothbrush.

Linda - Hello- more green tea for me today too. I still didn't like it iced. But,it was ok almost room temp. Are you starting day rotation right away?

Tam - halloween 10/31 - so glad that the gym is working out for you.

Hi Cindi, good luck with MM I have been seriously considering it also - even starting to acquire some of the supplements.

Vladis - it is the witch's brew that is causing your problems! Don't worry all will be well Sunday when all the witches/spooks disappear for another year. Just returned from getting the digest gold and some other stuff! You do know I was joking about the menu BUT I will take it.

Hello Donna glad Baxyl works for you didn't do nothing for me.

Hello to everyone!

Okay, one more thing. Donna's recipe for escarole and cannellini beans ROCKS! I only steamed it for about 10min. and then sauteed with the garlic/olive oil for about 20min. Added a tsp of sugar and a little sprinkle of red pepper flakes. She KNOWS what's good! NIght all.

Back from class. I am going to try that recipe too, dede. It sounds really good!

Mary, I'm so sorry Baxyl didn't work for you. It has totally taken my pain away. I am so excited about it! They say though, everything is not good for all people!

Going to watch Rick Pitino and the Louisville Cardinals play basketball! I love college basketball!

Hi friends!!!

Today turned into another busy day. It's a bit after 10 pm and I just got back from my DMIL. She is so cute - she painted Phill. logo on a T-shirt for my DH and wrote a little massage for him in her occupational therapy class. It's not all that incredible till you recall that the woman had her last rites given to her in August. Go Mom!!!

I had a great dinner as well. I made Salmon in Zucchini Croute (recipe from the Oxygen magazine), big salad with everything and a quinoa/millet/lentil mix. It was great and extremely simple and quick.

A client of mine (I love her) belongs to a co-op (they grow veggies there, etc.). I am thinking of joining - everything is organic. She went there today to pick up whatever other members didn't and got me these most beautiful greens - bok choy, lettuce, mustard greens, peppers, radishes, etc., etc. The greens look so fresh and bright ...green

Anyway, all in all is a pretty good day. I didn't get to go to the gym but I am planning on going there tomorrow and then on Sat or Sunday.

Jackie, thank you for sharing. I used to scrape my tongue with the same thingie that Mary described. I didn't like it - it made me gag . Maybe this brush is a gentler way to do that.
Also, a question for you. I am still wrestling here with my cabbage juicing. Did you ever experience almost peppery-bitter taste in cabbage juice? Honestly, sometimes it tastes like I put some pepper into it. Could it be a sort of a particular cabbage

Hey Mare! I am glad you got the enzymes. Let me know how they work for you. I am REALLY (no placebo BS here) noticed my stomach is not that bloated (even with 3 heads of cabbage in me every day ). I think if not for the enzymes, I'd be like a hot air balloon if you want my menus, you'll get them. If you see anything that interests you (like you'd like a recipe), let me know. I'll be happy to share.

Mary-I think you are right. 5 lbs is probably doable. I got on the scale this morning and was shocked! My little getaway put a few lbs back on. Some may be water weight. I'm trying not to get discouraged but heckfire!

Penny-There you are!! How is Collin? Poor baby. Hope his throat is better. Once when my son was little,he complained of a sore throat and I sent him to school-thought he was faking it. By the time I picked him up that afternoon,he looked like death warmed over! He'd had jogging club after school and had run 3 miles. I took him right to the doctor and turns out he had strep! Poor thing! I felt sooooo bad. Can you imagine running 3 miles with strep throat?! Not one of my finest mommy moments.

Donna-the escarole and bean recipe sounds delicious. I'm gonna try it.

Jackie-you are something else! I'm gonna be like you when I grow up!

Linda-You've done so well with your weight loss that you don't have much more to lose. The less you have to lose the slower it seems to happen.

Sara-Hey! I KNOW you're serious about exercise. As I said once,I LOVE that old Nike slogan,"just do it". I think that says it all. You'll feel better immediately once you start movin.

Okay, gotta get ready. Check on you guys later this afternoon.
That is too funny! I have had many of those moments. Collin had his tonsils out last spring so I'm hoping it's nothing. his throat had been sore for about a week but generally it was only in the mornings. He is feeling great now. He told me tonight when I asked that he ws 100% better than Monday!

Vladis, I like Dr. Cheney. Some good stuff. I have read his report and have told Ken he needs to drink cabbage juice for the ulcerative colitis.

Also, do you take calcium/magnesium? It can help you sleep at night if you are taking a good absorbable one. Cal/mag 100, the products I sell, is what I used to reverse osteoporosis. Magnesium is a natural muscle relaxer and can help us get into a deeper sleep by helping us to relax. Dr. Pinkus has a product called Cal Max and it is the same type of calcium that we sell. CalMax Original - Help Eliminate Stress, Pain, Insomnia and Fight Osteoporosis The only difference is that you have to mix his in hot water to activate and my product you don't. I did use his product until I found mine. But I feel very confident in his products, all of them!

Now, having said all that, another suggestion, if you are having problems falling asleep, like maybe from brain run on, I would suggest GABA by Source Naturals. I feel it is the best, and when taken right as you are on your way to bed (if you are going to be intimate do that first then take the GABA , don't be doing stuff because then it won't work!) But, it is like someone walking through the little rooms in your brain and shutting all the lights off. I love to use it when I can't go to sleep!

Glad your appt. went well. I can think of many other things that I could used lifted! It's funny how everything goes south! UGH!

Congrats on getting rid of that water weight!

Another busy day done! So happy tomorrow is Thursday. I have Friday off and I am looking so forward to it!

I finished the boys costumes on Monday. So glad to have them done. One more year down! They both had parties at school and daycare today. They had lots of fun. We carved pumpkins tonight. They really got into digging the insides out. Usually they are all excited and then I end up doing most of the work! Not this year! Thank goodness!

Well, I best get going. I have a big day tomorrow with my group of kids at school. My regular aide has the day off so I have a fill in. It should be interesting. I'm sure it will be crazy. The kids are getting so excited about Halloween! My plans is LOTS of exercise!!!! I will tire them out!

Take Care ladies!

I hope all is well with each of you!

Penny

Those organically grown veggies sound really good, Vladis! Just got the book for Metabolism Miracle and started reading it tonight. I'm going to see if it helps me since I am so carb sensitive. Crackin is a great WOE and I maybe able to take a few pointers and incorporate them for later.

Thanks, Mary...I will start Monday. I already take the suppliments, just need to stock up on some low fat and sugar free items.

Tam, as you can see...I couldn't sleep tonight. But I am signing off soon and hit the bed.

Also, keep me in prayer for a good report from my screening at the dermatologist in the morning.

All this talk about food has made me hungry!!!!! Water will have to do.

Night to ALL!

Mornin everyone! Slept well. Didn't even have to use the kitchen knife once! I piled up some pillows beside me and it made me feel more secure. DH taught me that trick. Once when I was gone for a couple of days,I found the pillows like that when I returned. He said,"It makes me think you're there." He's so funny.

Jackie-definitely make that recipe! I used 3 heads of escarole and 4 cloves of thinly SLICED garlic. Also 1/4c. olive oil. I think Donna suggested taking out some of the garlic before serving but I didn't cuz I LOVE garlic! The recipe was so tasty. I kept saying mmmmmm to myself.

Vladis-My sweet little step-daughter belongs to a co-op in Nashville. She and her roommate really enjoyed the fresh veggies this summer. They just got their last box of stuff. I guess it doesn't go through the winter. Anyway,I think it's a great idea!

Cindi-good luck with the new woe. If anyone can stick with it,YOU can!

Penny-Hope you have fun today. Post some pics of the boys in their costumes.

Going to make breakfast. Have a great day everyone!

Hi, Dede!!!!

You should never have to use it, but I just can't imagine you every using that knife- your screams would wake the dead, and they would spook any intruder away!!

Just lurking here and there. BUsy making Shabbat for our newborn GS's parents. They invited themselves Mon nite to make sure nobody else would get first grabs. Only them and DS12 this week. Making things I know they like- and maybe they'll let me hold the baby Can't wait!!!

I love that pillow idea- my mom says I used to ask for my father's pillow when he was away- (he went to the States ahead of us to set things up. )I was barely 2. I still like hugging a pillow when I can't sleep. Ingrained, I guess..

BTW- I've been sleeping better the past few nights- moved the supplements to bedtime (the magnesium must be it....) and the thyroid med to the morning- I prefer to take it at night (studies show it to be 30% more effective that way)- but it can't be taken with the supplements. Worse case I'll up the dose a bit if need be....

Morning healthy people!

Going to get my hair painted today but forgot what time. I usually make my appointment for 10ish but would hate to show up too early and have to sit there. I'll call her at 9am to double check.

Cindi~~good luck. It does make sense and I found the The Arrow Sheet on the author's website. There are a lot of veggies you can have the first 8 weeks that we weren't allowed on Crack. The 5 x 5 carb rule is a good one.

Jackie~~good info. My dentist has a sign in his office that says, "No, you don't have to floss all your teeth, only the ones you want to keep." I've done the tongue cleaning for a while.

Yes I am trying to cycle starting now. I wrote my days on a calendar yesterday through Thanksgiving. Also trying not to eat the same things in a row. But it's hard because some days I make enough oatmeal, etc. for the following day. I guess I need to stop cooking like I have kids still in the house. My mom cooked like that until she couldn't. Always leftovers in the refrigerator.

I've got to make Donna's recipe also. I will pick up everything when I go out today.

Good morning, healthy eaters! That's what I like the most - it's not about what plan we are following, it's about eating and living healthy (albeit with a kitchen knife by our side - you just never know when you'd need to chop up some fresh veggies ).

I had weird dreams all night (must be cabbage juice) - I was falling from the elevator and then there were pythons in the roof Anyway, was happy to wake up in one piece.

Penny - I hope your boys stay healthy so that YOU could have some time for you. I am always amazed you find time for all your activities and manage to remain sane

Cindi - I can't wait to hear how your new plan is going. I know nothing about it but the name intrigues me. Hey, anything to speed up our metabolism, that's for sure. Like you, I think I am carb sensitive. I just look at a piece of cake and I have to go a size up in my pants . However, now that I am eating good carbs - whole grains, fruit, veggies - I seem to be doing OK.

Dede - OK, you know what I do even with my vicious killer dog () lying in bed next to me? I move a dresser to block the door. I also always sleep with my car keys next to me, my phone and an escape ladder . I am NOT joking.

I am going to make something really neat out of some of the veggies that my friend gave me. She made this awesome smoothie (she is a raw foodist) - tatsoi, one sweet and one sour apple, a pear and a banana. It was so good! Much better than my cabbage juice. BTW, tatsoi is a leafy green. I HAD NO IDEA WHAT IT WAS TILL YESTERDAY

Tam - you are SUCH a great Mom. I hope your family knows and appreciates that

Linda gemi - How's your green tea drinking? I sent my DH to get two full cans from Teavana. Today I haven't had one cup of coffee. I had a nice cup of green tea instead. So far, so good.
As far as trying not to eat the same thing - remember I was on a three week diet from Oxygen magazine? The whole concept was eating exactly same meals a week at a time but eating specific foods that are supposed to boost your metabolic rate. I did lose 7 pounds (they promised 10!!!). I have to say that I wasn't following it 100% b/c it was the time of most turmoil with my DMIL. I can post which foods they wanted you to eat. I am still incorporating those just about every day.
Hi everybody who joined in while I was blabbing away here
Oh, very good personal news - officially size 6. Size 8 IS baggy. Can you imagine? I am very pleased and I will keep going (not to size 4 but to being healthy and having more muscle definition).

Dede--so glad you liked the escarole. It's definitely one of my faves. You can put all the garlic in if you're going to eat it right away or within a day, but after that it really intensifies in an unpleasant way, so you just need to be sure to force yourself to finish it all before that happens! We like red pepper flakes in it, too, but I never thought about adding sugar to it.

Penny and Tam--you guys both wear me out just reading about all the stuff you do! Wow, what busy and fulfilling lives you've built for yourselves. Awesome.

I've read the Metabolism Miracle and am seriously thinking about giving it a shot, even though I don't think I've pursued Crack as far as it will go. I do have trouble with the low fat intake and get hungry on Crack. I know I have carb metabolism issues. Crack has really helped me as far as learning the "trick" of cycling the carb intake. But as I say, I don't think I have pursued it as far as it will take me because I only completed one full eight-week course of Crack, and then I took the summer off.

These past two weeks I've been mainly Atkins-ing. Low-carb really agrees with me. My fat intake has been way high compared to Crack but I'm not the least bit hungry and I've actually lost a few pounds since restarting (I'll update my stats on Monday). I have some things coming up between now and the end of the year--a trip to Mexico and a wedding, not to mention Thanskgiving, Christmas, etc!--so I may just stick with what I'm doing until the first of the year and then decide if I want to buckle down with Crack or MM.

Here's what I ate for my high-fat breakfast today--you could Crack it with egg whites and lowfat cream cheese. This is one of my favorite omelets!

Two eggs
Splash of half & half
1" square of cream cheese, softened
1/2 ripe tomato, sliced VERY THIN

Make your omelet and then spread the softened cream cheese over half, top with the THIN slices of tomato (don't overdo the tomato or it will overpower everything else), season with a little salt and pepper, fold over, and YUM!

I thought I saw your numbers going down. The inches are following suit!!
I try... this couple needs extra TLC. I don't think I am better than others- but as far as appreciation, if not now , I am sure when they get to my stage they will appreciate what I've done.

Actually , I am looking for more to do- not that I have the time or energy, but I do feel a need for another outlet now that the next is emptying (only one child at home most of the time)

For all you Metabolism Miraclers- there are 2 podcasts on Jimmy Moore's "Livin' La Vida Lowcarb" about it, interviewing the author.I have it on my IPod, and haven't gotten a chance to listen to it.

Have a great day, all! I am off to bake.

Dede....that water weight can be mean stuff. Glad it's all gone. Amazing how these "little things" can make our weight change so quickly. And, hope your hubby can find an exercise that doesn't aggravate his shoulder. I can so relate.....almost everything makes me hurt.

Hello All...Sounds like everyone is doing great and very upbeat. Question....We are invited to a chicken stew (probably hotdogs too) on Nov. 7th...Than, invited to a friends home on Nov. 8th for a southern home cooked meal (by her husband!) of country style steak, cream potatoes, etc.....How in the world would ya'll handle this? That would be 2 carb up meals 2 days straight. Would ya'll do this???? And, would you do 3-4 carb down days afterwards? I sure don't need to mess up my loss. Thanks, Carol

Hi everyone,

I have been lurking and been busy and not so good about food. I had two B days back to back. Bad TOM and lots of work are not a good combination. Have not weighed or measured. Will do that next Saturday, certainly not this one.

This Saturday we are going to dinner at a friend's who is a gourmet cook and his food is awesome. He puts himself out for his guests and I always end up eating more than I should. Do not know how I will keep myself from going overboard (maybe just a little)

Both threads are very busy with new friends and old and everyone seems to be doing well.

Dede, my husband does the same pillow trick whether I am there or not. Is is a good thing we have a huge double bed.

Will pop in later, if I have the time. The Christmas rush is just beginning....

Hugs,
Sophia

Back from the hair dresser and I did not let her touch my hair with scissors. I just had it trimmed 4 weeks ago. Every time I let her trim it, it's too short. I told her I wanted to let it grow out again, so that it hits my shoulder. Geez, she was all ready to snip, snip, snip.

I was just reading the food chart for the MM plan. I really have to think that one through. Maybe like Donna, I need to get through the holidays with something I know how to do and if I lose in the process than I will just continue. After all it really is about just eating healthy and not overeating. That has been my problem in the past, large portion of things I really love. That and sweets. I have been staying away from sweets though and that has been a really big plus for me.

Wasn't too hungry when I got home so I had a protein shake and small salad. Going to the store in a few so I'll check back later.
